http://shine.yahoo.com/healthy-livi...-182335990.html![]() quote:The man with the "world's worst portrait tattoo" finally got his happy ending on Thursday when he had the opportunity to fix the botched ink job of his late wife that had plagued him for so many years. It's been a little while since our last "Best/Worst Tattoos" thread, probably for good reason since they tend to degenerate into people either demonizing or defending all tattoos ever, but this was a nice little follow-up to one I've definitely seen posted on here (as well as everywhere else apparently). As lovely as the original was, and whatever your feelings about tattoos in general, I would've been a little less likely to laugh if I had known that it was of his late wife and mother of 3 who died in a house fire shortly after being married. The fixed version (done for free), albeit heavy on the shading, is a considerable improvement. I consider this a slightly heartwarming story, minus the artist of the first iteration's response, "well, that was my first portrait, I moved on, now I'm better and my tats have totally been in magazines." I'm glad you so easily forged ahead and happily prospered while the poor guy whose wife just died paid you $450 for a permanent piece of poo poo on his arm which made him embarrassed that anyone even knew about it. The other tattoo which often gets posted here, and comes up on a Google image search for "worst tattoo," is on the stomach of a girl with whom I was friends with in high school, and who used to be a goon (not sure if she still is). Our parents used to set up play dates for us as kids, then we randomly re-connected in high school. She was/is a cool girl, and defends her tattoo, but there are some serious human anatomy/perspective issues...

The first picture had a penis in it but it turned out to be a finger, but there are ghosts everywhere. As far as the hot bat'leth-face chick it's either an acid attack or "Why is your face green, Gram ma?" I guess she'll have to opt for the latter.

I don't mind that you have a face tattoo, but I'd be doing that 'dog doesn't understand' head tilt trying to read that poo poo, rather than allowing your sparkling personality and trenchant commentary to form my opinion. OP's original "world's worst" never actually fit that title, was more along the lines of "one of the worst resulting tattoo that stemmed from reasonable intention."

Priapus posted:It's not the skin colours that bother me, it's the culture. Because everyone/the majority/people who get tattoos are Triads and gangsters, druggies or bikers. It's an inane perception that people have. With MS-13, yes, because their goal is to make a huge impact from first impressions. Tattoos do that. For the same reason Maori do. Just plays on the perception of people who think Tattoos = Dangerous! Most people in Hong Kong (And the world in particular) are under the impression that the Chinese Triads are tattooed. They're not stupid, and neither are the HK police - the triads will be spotted from a loving MILE away if they were tattooed. Not everyone gets tattoos because they're "criminals" or white suburban kids with "MY DAD WON'T LET ME!" daddy issues. Some people, like me, are getting it because they think it's quite nice to have a great piece of artwork on your skin. Of course, there will be poo poo ones like the one in the OP, and drunken night binges who end up having an erect cock on their spine (Alternatively: "You're an idiot!" on their forehead when they wake up in the morning and walk to the mirror. Followed by an emergency appointment with the laser removal clinic prior to the board meeting) - that's where "Cover" artists come in. Covering up work of previous lovely artists. I'll have to ask Chris at the Tattoo Temple (Once you get past the Top 10, the ranking is mostly immaterial - They're at #3 in the world) what he thinks of this particular one.

That is pretty cool that they are common place and there is no stigma. There's different styles and identifiers, of course. All I know about Maori tattoos, from what I recall, is that they're swirly, and involve a lot of patterns, and have a "Tribal" style (Which is mostly sharp hard edges, lines, and a graphic look), as opposed to the more "brush like" style of Yakuza full body tattoos (Which are walking pieces of art. Provided you can get into the same bathhouse for reasons not pertaining to crimincal activity in the Oyabun's area). quote:I am Hispanic and roughly the same skin color as the guys whose tattoos I posted, albeit different facial skeleton structure, and I find those particular ones pretty bad. There'll be good pieces of work and bad, just like any other art form. Bad Tattoos get a lot of news because they are spectacularly godawful, and because they're permanent (either you get them removed via painful laser "surgery", or covered up/worked over by whatever creative method), and because of the stigma, so it reinforces the - "If you get a Tattoo, you're an idiot" generalization. Not unlike the Ecce Homo "restoration". Except the piece is on a human body, instead of a wall in a Church. And then there are good pieces Jamie is much more Tribalistic as a style. Wang and Joey are more Brush/fluid-like. And if you're considering them. Good luck. They turn away 80% of people who request a Tattoo, no matter how much money you throw at them. You don't walk in and pick a design from a book, and "get it done". Wait list is two years minimum now, almost 3, and each Tattoo is custom designed, and Joey costs like 3000 hkd/hr, so that's...650 usd per hour? Only I'm having to wait 1 (Getting it done in April), favourable rates, because as much as I like to think I just ooze charm and am handsome ( ), and because I was doing the design work myself as well.<---- For an idea, see my avatar.
