This is without a doubt the cutest watch I've ever owned.

CAN YOU SURVIVE THE HORROR?

First there was the disaster at the mansion lab. Umbrella Corp. developed the T-virus, a muta-genic toxin for use in biological weapons. After breaking loose, living things mutated into all sorts of decaying creatures. The case was eventually closed, but Umbrella's experiments were far from over.

Now it's the worst possible nightmare: a new virus runs rampant. All of Raccoon City is infested. Blood-thirsty zombies, hideous mutations now overwhelm the community. When Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield arrive in town their nightmare is just beginning ...You now control their destiny.

The original Resident Evil was one of the first smash hits on the PlayStation. With their previous success looming over their heads, Capcom spared no expense on the sequel, going so far as to allow Shinji Mikami to scrap almost the entire game (the earlier version now commonly called RE 1.5) when he decided it was turning out terrible. Recently, a group of modders got their hands on a copy and are reportedly working to fix bugs for an eventual release online, which should be interesting.

The version of RE2 finally released was a huge improvement over the original in almost every way. The graphics and audio were massively overhauled, with some of the best-looking environments ever seen in a game to that point and probably my favorite video game soundtrack of all time (the voice acting is still rough around the edges, but they did at least hire actual actors this time). A lot of small issues were fixed, and although the inventory system isn't exactly great, you're not constantly fighting against it this time around. The challenge between scenarios was much better balanced this time, so picking one character over another doesn't make the game significantly harder. The storyline is much better, too.

So, yeah, let's try this again. While the Leon A run was recorded off the Gamecube version, I've since changed my entire recording setup and that's no longer a very good option. The other three scenarios will be recorded from the PS1 Dual Shock version, emulated on PS3. Content-wise it's almost identical, though it does run at a lower resolution. As for commentary:

- Leon A features subtitle commentary.
- Claire B will have solo voice commentary
- Claire A and Leon B will be voice commentary with guests to be announced.

Hopefully this will keep things from getting too repetitive, since the four scenarios overlap quite a lot.

I'm a very lonely man, doing what I can.

Oh hey, this looks familiar. I enjoyed the last couple of threads, and this one is looking up. Maybe we'll see a conclusion to this game. (And maybe to Gabriel Knight 2).

Resident Evil 2's box cover is one of the best there's ever been in gaming. It's just so well put together.

Glad to see this LP back. RE2 was the first PS1 game I ever owned and I played the poo poo out of it, then I realized that you could effectively go through the game 4 times and it'd be different which blew my mind. I haven't touched it in nearly a decade now and watching these videos brings back some really good memories. I just hope it sticks this time because I'd love to see you do RE3 as well.

Deepwater, ahoy!

Ahh, this LP is bringing back so many memories. I really love the music from this game, and I like the subtitled style of your LP. It got me wanting to watch an LP of the first game, but the ones on the LP Archive either have commentary over them, or are in screenshot form. The subs lead me to believe you did one for the first game... did you?

Glad to see this thread back! Resident Evil 2 is that one game I tend to remember the most fondly.
It's just got such nostalgia for me that I can't help but follow LPs for it no matter how many times it comes up.

That said, this is the first time in all these years that I've ever noticed you can see that zombie's mouth on the cover art.

That dog cage ambush might be leftovers from 1.5. Might be cages on both sides when that room was made. I don't know how else there would be a second door appearing from nowhere.

I've only just noticed that "Resident Evil 1.5" was actually made available to download and play. Very interesting.

Ah, the Desert Eagle. I believe the inclusion of it in RE2 spawned a fetish for it that still lasts to this day in video games.

I thought there was two door, and you guys just never noticed, assuming it to be a perspective issue. Also, is there a different flavor text for the upgraded handgun? If there is, I'd like to see it.

One more thing: the Desert Eagle reminds me of the novelization of the 2nd game, where Leon starts the book with it (as a gift from his relatives, if I recall correctly).

Leon most certainly does start the novel with it, and it sounds like it has no stopping power at all throughout the whole thing.

Well, the chief had to do something with all those delicious payments from Umbrella.

Maybe they lent him their construction crew instead of a bribe one time.

I only saw one fence door holding the dog and getting knocked down, then the sudden camera change shows two doors right next to each other like there was a second cage holding dogs that you can't see.

Those notes turn a game with a fetish for gimmick keys into one of crazy people screwing things up while under orders of a multinational. Things don't make sense when you read them.

Odd that an elite police outfit is suddenly blown off about RE1, yet Umbrella still considers them a problem. No other newspaper/blog unconnected to Umbrella wants to even interview them, despite possible TERRORISM.

I love these games with a loving passion (well, up to 4 at least), but I will be the first to admit the plot doesn't make a lick of sense.

I've always loved how the Gun store owner stands right in front of the massive shop window and gets killed when said window is smashed open.

On a lesser note, this game scared me quite a lot when I was younger, it was my first ever experience with Zombie media as well, the background noises in the outside parts were the freakiest parts for me, all that wailing and moaning was just chilling for my 9 year old self.

I swear the outside moaning noise mimics the cave music in Earthbound. I think it is bears making the noise, but the time between each roar matches the zombie moans.

I think the subtitle commentary is where you are at your best, Just my two cents from following your RE 1 thread. It doesn't take away from the mood and atmosphere of the game and provides with solid humor.

He died the exact same way in the RE 2 novel as well, although he was already dead when Leon passed through the shop via the smashed window.

The random crashes in the background music actually gave me a sinking feeling in my stomach. I remember being uneasy throughout my first play through.

I just started watching the videos again so forgive me but, how did you get stuck on the virgin heart puzzle as a kid? I found that just pure "try to do everything that gives you different dialog" on the way to the darkroom for the first time. Granted I didn't know about the puzzle when I lit the fire in the fireplace but I assumed I should try something like that. I thought it would be a F. Aid spray or something to pop out.

Then again, to this day I can't dodge zombies as well as you, and from that point on, I tried to use my lighter on everything.

Glad to see you're back at it. I really enjoyed your style and pace with the first game.

This was the game that made me wish I had a psx back in the day. I swapped my n64 for my mate's psx and few games one weekend and ended up sinking all my time into RE2. The way 'new game+' blew my mind.
