And now, movie Goons, it's the moment you've been waiting for! It's time to announce the winners for the first annual Cinema Discusso CineByte awards!

The CineByte awards are awards specifically for the film lovers of Cinema Discusso, cosen by the Cinema Discusso Academy. The CinemaDiscusso Academy is a group of posters chosen by the official Academy Governing Board, which is just the Current Releases crew.
The CineBites vary slightly from the Oscars in that there are no “Best Animated Feature” and “Best Animated Short” categories. All Animated features are eligible for Best Picture nomination. Instead, we have “Best Animation” and “Best Vocal or Motion Capture Performance” categories. Also, there are some other special CineD specific categories, like Best Food/Meal Scene, and the Moral High Horse award.

The goal of these awards is to foster interest and get more people to spread the word about films they love. Even if you're not a member of the Academy, please participate in this thread, by making arguments throughout about which films you think should win. Then, as the year progresses, if you see a movie you love and think deserves a 2014 CineByte award, get people to see it! Make a thread! Talk it up in General Chat! Tell people your reasoning, and participate in the forum! Then when it comes time to pick the academy next year, you may get called to the board.

The awards will be announced by Cinema Discusso Members throughout the week, as presented by this schedule graciously developed by Sir Kodiak:

If you'd like to write a speech, make a video, take a picture of yourself in a cool suit, that's great! The post will be all yours to do whatever, just announce the winner!

Ooh La La?
OOH LA LA?!

GREETINGS, MORTALS. YOUR AWARDS SHOW HAS SUMMONED US. WE HAVE SUCH SIGHTS TO SHOW YOU.

HERE TO PRESENT The Golden Winnebego Award for Best Trailer, A MAN WHOSE PAIN WE ENJOY ON A WEEKLY BASIS.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, JAY DUB.

Uh... Thank you, Pinhead?

Welcome to the first annual CineByte Awards, an award show where the awards are made up and the winners don't matter! Normally, we'd kick off this awards show with a flashy musical number about movies and racial stereotypes and how good Anne Hathaway looks in a leather catsuit, but since this is the internet, I guess I'll just have to type out a bunch of stage directions and let you imagine all the moves and sight gags. Just picture Billy Crystal in a lovely corset singing "I Dreamed a Dream about Movies".

Anyway, I'm here to present this week's first award: Best Trailer of the Year. The best trailers of the year have drawn us in with visceral thrills, sharp sound design, and haunting musical cues. The right combination can bring audiences to the theater in droves, while the wrong mixture will leave us scratching our heads wondering what the hell we just watched, as you'll see in a moment. What better way to demonstrate the effective drawing power of advertising than with a movie trailer of my own?

Here, now, are the nominees for BEST TRAILER OF THE YEAR!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZDt6WciR_k

Congratulations, ............PROMETHEUS.............!

Dang, nice presentation, Jay Dub!

I was really torn between Prometheus and Django Unchained for Best Trailer because both gave such a great idea of the tone of the films and also got me super pumped to see them. I think I ended up going with Django but I'm certainly not complaining that Prometheus won!

I wish the Pacific Rim trailer had gotten a nod. The editing and score is generic enough that I don't really think it's deserving of a win, but I love the aesthetic and the build-up so much. It makes me smile every time I see it.

There's a Paranorman art book? And I don't own it? What the hell.

Also, that tie was a real anti-climax. Who the hell voted for Andy Serkis over Kodi Smit McPhee? Kid was amazing.

Nice presentation but you're very quiet. I had to turn everything up to max. I don't get the love for Gollum, but that's probably because of the last ten years of bad imitations and parodies.

I voted for Gollum. I feel people underrate that performance because they're so used to Serkis as Gollum but he really just nails it and he even plays it differently than he did in LotR because Gollum is in a different state of mind. He really adds alot of menace and humor to a scene that was pretty much mainly about cool riddles in the book. Plus he was the only one there that actually did a motion capture for his performance.

Yeah, this was my thinking. I forgot that it was even eligible for the category during nominations because the motion-capture is so seamless and it makes you almost forget you're watching a CG-creature, let alone an actor.

It's morning where I am so let's keep the show a-rolling.

I am here to present Editing.

Editing is one of the most crucial steps to making a film work. It's the last chance to re-write the story, and to shape it into what audiences will then sit in a darkened theatre to watch. Bad Editing can destroy a good movie whereas Good Editing can save some pretty disastrous films. If Star Wars was presented as originally intended, rather than the brutally edited film that played in 1977, I doubt we'd have a massive franchise that just got sold to Disney. Editors are often under appreiaited because the best ones leave no sigh of their work.

Let's take a look at the films picked for the 2013 CineByte Award for Best Editing in a little piece that I edited.
