It's almost that time of year for the MS National Guard officer's convention! You know, that thing where higher ups try to force you to pay a lobbying group and attend their functions! I told me boss at work today that I'd work that weekend for free so I could have a good excuse to not go.

This is not anything unusual, however it was confirmed last year that there was money for it (the gently caress), and it is considered a Really Big Deal. There's a bunch of colonels and 1 and 2 stars supposedly turning up to add to the poo poo mess. If anyone is being forced to attend then yeah, it's gonna be a giant bowl of gently caress with a side of extra dick.

Trip report for airborne day one: turns out my unit is wrong, I do need to be here before noon to check in. I am potentially facing a sweet week of being payed to do nothing. We get the weekend off, alcohol is banned, this is gay, the defac is broken. Atlanta airport has a surprisingly large number of hot chicks.

So today we were told that all officers in the BN had to chip in $20 for the BC's going away gift (over $800 altogether). I immediately noted that we couldn't purchase a gift that expensive for him, he wasn't ethically allowed to accept it. CO told me I still had to kick in. No joke, 90 minutes later we were attending an OPD on ethics and they had an entire set of slides on gifts. Maximum $300 for gifts, no more than $10 solicitation per person, etc. BC then adds in some commentary about how true that is and that you have to decline gifts that expensive. You could see all the higher ups just giving each other weird looks across the room. Edit: Also, anyone who schedules an "ethics" OPD at 1500 on a Friday - 3 hours after release formation - is an inhuman, unethical monster. I just thank God we didn't have mandatory, drink-together-and-have-fun time.

Update: currently chilling at the Gainey Cup. Somehow won the retard lottery and am now a TMP driver for big wigs. There are, however, no big wigs today. I have nothing to do, and the fleet of rented TMPs are sitting there just costing money. Contemplating taking one of TMP surprise sex vans for a drive and offering free candy to spouses children. Outside in the parking lot it looks like the special olympics crossed with crossfit. And looks like nothing scouts would actually do. There is so much hooah out there it's like someone farted in your mouth so supersized you can chew on it. Just went for a spin in the TMP to see where I'm actually supposed to drive some of these suckers, and no one is in the heated tents despite it being colder than gently caress, oh no. And you've got a bunch of fuckers sweeping the vehicle pad because... hooah. It ain't hit full gently caress retard mode yet, but I see it coming.

So unless you want to be BACK IN THE ARMY in 3 years (maybe, selection rate at the last JAG selection board was ~5% of applicants)... I suggest you do literally anything else.
