Hi All, I'm finally a proud owner of a real American firearm. My friend needed money to help with a down payment on a house so I helpfully offered to exchange cash for rifle!![]() Its a CMMG Upper on a Spikes Tactical Lower with the following accouterments: DPMS Collapsible Stock Magpul handguard Magpul foregrip Magpul pistol handgrip Matech rear sight $55 PWS fsc556 muzzle brake Vortex strikefire dot scope ![]() He also gave included 4 magazines and 200 rounds of ammunition, all for $1,700. ![]() I've actually shot this rifle with him before and it works really well. Crisp trigger, soft recoil. So excited! I have a few questions for everyone also. Is there anywhere in the world that PMags arent extinct and decently affordable? Likewise, is there anywhere these days where I can get bulk brass ammunition? Thanks! I can't wait to take this out on the range! Edit! Could anyone recommend a decent quality 2 point quick adjustable sling that wont break the bank? Thanks! Zhanism fucked around with this message at Mar 2, 2013 around 19:22 |

Nope. Zhanism posted:Likewise, is there anywhere these days where I can get bulk brass ammunition? Not for a good price. There's loads on gunbroker and armslist, but it's all seriously overpriced. Nice rifle. You might want to swap the stock though. There are many better options out there.

Absolutelty, I wasn't actually in the market since prices have been so sky high but it just popped up from my friends so I had to get it. I havent been keeping up with all of the latest and greatest. What would you recommend that isn't crazy expensive? The current stock is okay, just a little rattlely.

Wait does that giggle switch work or is that just how the lower comes?

Not enough that I'm actually offended by someone else liking it or having it on their poo poo, but it just bugs me to have a selector option there that isn't going to be used. I know, RDIASs are a thing, but really. The first thing I think when I see a 3 position selector without the pin isn't "oh, that dude has an RDIAS" it's "hrm, bit of wishful thinking there." To each their own I guess.

It is extremely amusing that the red dot is so far back, like to the point that even with the extreme cantilever mount, it's STILL a few slots farther back than it could be with a regular non-cantilevered mount.

I'm still playing with where I want to mount it. From what I can tell, different people have different preferences on the position. What do you recommend?

Your dot is in a fine location but your mount is designed to push your optic ahead of the furthest rail slot on your upper because some people think that's cool and other people need the space for things like magnifiers, nods, and looking cool. I see. The mount came with the scope so I can't complain about it but I'll be playing with it more later. People say contradictory things about the benefit of mounting it forward or more back.

People say contradictory things about the benefit of mounting it forward or more back. The two ways that I know are that you mount a small red dot optic way out front, focus on the target and the optics body and mount ghost out. The other way is to mount the optic far back towards you as you get it lined up with your eye faster since it is closer and you can also see more of your target area through the optic. Always keep both eyes open and focus on the target. The dot will be there.

I've read the same thing else where but there is always someone that says the opposit also. I will definitely keep playing with the position to find the best for me.
