It's time once again to pit our mettle against one another, to focus on improvement, and to battle it out for the player of zeez that is willing to risk their bonus pool and push for rarefied heights of the ladder! How this works During the week of Heart of the Swarm's launch (March 12th until March 17th), participants can sign up by posting the following information: 1) Character Name and Character Code 2) Your current league 3) Your current points 4) Your best Wings of Liberty League 5) Are you race changing from WoL? 6) A minimum of 5 replays from Heart of the Swarm If you sign up, you are committing to post a minimum of one replay a day (except weekends) for roughly a month. If you cannot commit to this, don't sign up! ![]() Once you have signed up, starting on Monday, March 18th at noon, you must post a minimum of one replay a day, with the exception of Saturday and Sunday. You must post by noon, MST, on the following day (Monday's replays are due by Tuesday at noon, Tuesday's by Wednesday at noon, etc). Your post must state your current league and your current points. Ladder position in your league is optional. Additionally, each replay posted must contain the following information: 1) Link to the replay 2) Win/Loss 3) The matchup 4) Your personal analysis of what went right, wrong, strange, etc. If the game is short and you execute a well honed strategy (see my constant 4 gating during the last competition) you do not need to do an indepth analysis. The overall goal of the competition is to improve based on analyzing what went wrong. Other posters are highly encouraged to post critiques and suggestions, as long as its constructive. Attacks or deprecating advice from one competitor to another will result in punishments including expulsion from the competition. While that is the overall goal, there are also some winning targets to shoot for as well: 1) Top of the Heap: The competitor in the highest league (GM > M > D > P > G > S > B) and with the most points will win the top of the ladder prize. 2) Improvement By Victory: The competitor that moves on a weighted scale of leagues and with the highest points in their league will earn a prize. An example of the weighting is that a player that moves from bronze to gold will probably earn equivalent points to a player that moves from platinum to diamond. I haven't worked out the system entirely yet, and want to keep it something of a mystery as well. 3) Patch Zerg/Protoss/Terran/Random: The competitor that has race changed at the start of the competition, maintained that race throughout, and is in the highest league / points position will earn a prize. 4) Shiny Metal: The competitor that starts in bronze, silver, or gold that is at least in platinum and is in the highest league / points position will earn the a prize. 5) The Gold Standard: All competitors that make (and maintain throughout the remainder of the competition) Grand Master for the first time will earn a prize. There may be further awards as well, and the prizes will be determined as the competition progresses, as some prizes may not be earned (the GM prize for example). Rules 1) Competitors must play on the North American, Heart of the Swarm ladder. Sorry to our wonderful brits, you'll just have to put up with the lag. The upside is the NA ladder is regarded as easier than EU or KR! 2) Competitors must submit at least one game replay per day, as specified above. Unlike last time, there will be no leniency in failing to submit. 3) The state, quality, and day-of-play of the replay is irrelevant. If you expect to be unavailable for several days, it is highly recommended that you save up a store of your ladder games on drop.sc and post them as each day arrives. 4) There will be no excuses for illness, travel, conflicting schedules, or other anticipated failure to post. See rule 3 for a potential work around. 5) The 'signup' period in which players must post the above information is March 12th until March 17th at 9:00 PM MST. 6) The competition proper will run from March 18th at 12:00 PM MST until April 15th at noon. 7) Daily posts must be posted in this thread containing the above information. 8) Participating in the competition means that I may be casting any of the replays submitted. You agree that any replay submitted will be fair game for casting. 9) Any attacks, sarcastic advice, or other deprecating attacks at another competitor will result in a penalty up to and including removal from the competition. This is RIP zeez, don't BM. 10) If monetary rewards are involved, you have access and are willing to use paypal. 11) If physical object rewards are involved, you are comfortable releasing your address / personal information to me for the purposes of shipping items. 12) New: Replays must be posted on drop.sc and they must be 'worthwhile' replays. Starting a game, and instantly quitting just to get a replay is not a valid replay. -- You are more than welcome to post your interest in this thread now and update your post later with the relevant information as it becomes available if you still wish to compete. Also feel free to post comments, questions, and/or suggestions. I will *probably* participate in this round, but we'll see. I've had more fun watching / organizing / casting than I have had playing, and last time was less fun than stress trying to coordinate AND beat Pielon at the same time

Its for Grandmasters, since everyone is involved. There may be additional prizes as well for people that make master for the first time. Also maybe prizes for the competitor that submits the most replays through the entire competition, or the player that has the highest average replays per day.

Sounds fun, I'll be doing this. I suggest you be careful with the exact criteria you use for stuff like "shiny metal" and "improvement by victory." Since HotS ladder will be separate from WoL ladder I believe that on release day we're all going to have a fresh MMR and 5 placements in HotS. Many seem to be assuming this and I can't find any information to the contrary. So you might have people signing up on the first day or two that are still as much as a few leagues below where they were in WoL and then those people climbing up those few leagues within a day or two. Not sure exactly what you should do about that. I also like the idea of a prize for either most total replays or most replays per day. edit: I did find official confirmation, WoL MMR/ladder will not be taken into account for HotS ladder placement. source: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/7592802829#3 Col.Kiwi fucked around with this message at Mar 7, 2013 around 21:06 |

Hoohah posted:Also maybe prizes for the competitor that submits the most replays through the entire competition, or the player that has the highest average replays per day. Isn't... isn't this the same thing? The competition is a set amount of days long. And I'm pretty sure the improvement awards should be based upon your WoL ranking. It's a little silly to place someone in a starting league after only five games.

This looks fun! I played Zerg in WoL and am considering a switch to Random, so I really doubt I'll be winning any prizes as that's probably the hardest state to play from. On the other hand, I'll have a much easier time for exactly 1/3rd of my games right? e: vvv It's much harder to critique 2v2 because you can play 100% perfectly and still lose because your teammate is all "i build carriers k?" This sounds like fun. I've been wanting to improve my game. hesitantly in. Was a platinum in the first season of WOL, but i think the ranks were different then. Recently replayed a few seasons ago and got silver so that's probably closer to where I'm at. Was a random player and thinking of playing either terran or zerg in HotS.

1) Pengwin.452 2) Master 3) 185 4) Master 5) Nope Daybreak LE [ZvT] http://ggtracker.com/matches/2002193 This is the game that popped me back into Master. For most of SC2, I've refused to drone scout in ZvZ even though I open 15 hatch almost every game. But since HotS was released, I've been getting early pooled a lot and it was really annoying auto losing a bunch of games. So I've started 9 scouting, and this game it paid off because the dude 6 pooled with a drone pull. I threw down a 15 pool and held it handily. Bel'Shir Vestige [ZvP] http://ggtracker.com/matches/2002191 I've been playing around with super-agressive swarm host play, and this is one of two common responses. He had stargate tech already and tried to make a bunch of phoenix to kill my SH but I added on some spores to my contain. Tried to transition into tempests, but a huge tech switch to corruptor on top of a huge econmic advantage destroyed him. Whirlwind LE [ZvP] http://ggtracker.com/matches/2002200 Roughly the same build as last game, this time the guy did the other common response: lots of colossi. A corruptor switch could have helped here too, as well as expanding faster under my contain, but the SH pretty much won the game by themselves anyway. Bel'Shir Vestige [ZvT] http://ggtracker.com/matches/2002192 Scouted no barracks and a low SCV count with a 13 drone scout, and I thought it might be smart to cancel my 15 hatch since it was definately 2 proxied barracks. Turns out this is a terrible decision, and horrible micro led to me getting crushed. Daybreak LE [ZvT] http://ggtracker.com/matches/2002195 This guy did a proxy reaper build which did a lot of damage, but I thought it might leave him vulnerable to a big counter all-in. He was more ahead than I expected though, and bad engagements with my roaches against 3 tanks ending up killing most of my army. Pengwin fucked around with this message at Mar 17, 2013 around 00:51 |

Is it okay if I start a few days late? I have a ski trip that runs into next week and while I wouldn't play one a day on vacation even if I had a laptop that could run hots, well, I don't have a laptop that runs hots. Also those would likely be the absolute worst replays ever.

Signing up. I am in. 1) stsjowj.300 - this will be changing soon 2) Platinum! 3) 34 4) Masters 5) No Games! Game1: http://ggtracker.com/matches/1821048 Win ZvZ -Cross position on Whirlwind - I 15h because the map is huge, and then 17g/17p to play even greedier (srsly it's a big map) -I gently caress up my 36/36 overlord and get blocked. -hosed up my lair timing and 4th gas timing. Should've been 6 min lair not 6:30 -overlord scouts 2 evo from opponent; this lets me know how to play the rest of the game out, getting mutas and transitioning into 1/1 myself. -opponent could've done a poo poo load more damage to me in the ling phase as my spire's building because I hosed up my bling. -I get my 3rd down before his with lucky baneling hit on his lingclump. -damage his 3rd with ling/muta, pull muta back to deal with roaches and leave lings to kill his 3rd. -since he went all in with the basetrade I continued to make mutas so I could press my mobility/base advantage. Normally would've transitioned out. -I meet his hydra clump midmap and kill it with pure muta, he leaves. Game2: http://ggtracker.com/matches/1821050 Win ZvZ -daybreak - drone scout into 15 hatch while delaying his hatch -he over reacts to hatchblock and pulls 3(??) drones. This was stupid. -pool > gas -lair timing was better this game but still late. Got it at 6:10 -he takes early 3rd - I damage heavily with pure ling while my spire goes. -ol scouts rw/dual evos -bad ling split vs ling/bane/late on inject -my 3rd finishes up and I start my own 2evos -ling runby into main to kill drones/queens/evos. Only get 1-2 drones and queen. -also send 4 banes into his 3rd which has heavy ling presense by him - I kill all lings at 3rd with good banes hit while he's distracted. -he ragequits. Game3: http://ggtracker.com/matches/1821051 Win ZvT -hatchfirst with dronescout -I see his gas, estimate reapers due to gas timing -gas > pool for earlier speed to deal with reapers. -scout factory/reactor with OL, so helion expand. -rw to deal with helion timings/pressure -scout SUPER late expansion with lings. Scout cc highground with rax/fac/building(ugh ididn't click) -while I scout he does helion runbye into my main, nbd because he kills zero drones basically. -start double evo in my main rather than using as wall; whoops. -he sets up helion/mine contain on 3rd. I sent a drone to terran's 4th base to sneak expansion in case I can't even take my 3rd. -he overextends with his 2 mines, allowing me to escape contain. I expand to 3rd. -he pressures my 3rd with tank/hb/helion but I win with roach/ling. Bad aggressive move by him, solidifies my map control. -creeped on his 3rd base with OL, I have 6gas/3hatch with 2/2 on the way. Should've teched to hive earlier with 4th but took too long getting SH out. Not sure which trade off I agree with more. -scout hb/tank comp, which is the ULTRALISK KILLER! I tech for ultras anyway because I'm ahead. -I finally finish getting out my requisite number of sh and move out on the map -hive finishes up as his 3rd lands in the forward expansion on daybreak. -god I have super poor creep spread this game. -my SH start doing too much damage to his front; he lets me kill siege tanks for free. -widowmines are not good vs sh without support. Who knew? -opponent tried to thorship me. I don’t' even know. -I win with lots of units. Game4: http://ggtracker.com/matches/1821049 Win ZvP 3hatch gasless vs nexus first inbaseforge -he moves into4gate pressure that I scout late but started procuding units in time because I hadn't scoutted poo poo. -I take too much dmg since I hadn't reacted optimally, but I hold off the attack. (qq I forgot a shitrally somewhere) -I cancel his 3rd with a ling runby . I scout he has immortals -move into SH with spire coming up to defend against the inevitable robocolo -secure 4th while reasserting mapcontrol -opponent does good warpins throughout the game that I took too much damage to. -I do not use my SH optimally; I need to be pressuring his 3rd with them but don't feel comfortable doing it early. Need to work on my build and also on multitasking. -finally I push down towards his 3rd with 12 sh, ling/raoch and corrupters. -I walk right into his army because I'm loving terrible but he backs off and lets me burrow locust him. I kill all his collosus. -injects needed to be better this game eqww look at that energy -I've started my transition to hydra/ultra/corruypter/SH. -I deny protoss attempt to sneak 4th. -I take a late 5th/6th I should've taken those much much earlier. This game is unnecssarily long because I gently caress up several engagements and let him focus hatcheries down while underdefended. I eventually win because I and far more efficient with my teched units (SH!) while consistantly killing his collosus with corrupters. He eventually goes for a basetrade while I have an ultimate deathball of SH/Hydar/Brood/corrupter. I win the base trade when he moves all his stalkers and like 10 imomrtals up a ramp with no way down but through SH waves. Game5: http://ggtracker.com/matches/1821049 Win ZvT -scout his gas, assume reapers based on gas timing. -go hatch first > gas > pool. -start singing along to the pussy cat dolls -I leave a drone midmap to check for reaper but forget to move it away when I see the reaper. Whoops -reapers kill 2 drones, I kill a reaper, 1 gets away. Poo to you mister reaper. -tpain has some great zerg music. -start RW for reaper>helion timings -kill a widowmine that was in transit to delay 3rd with speedlings; this helped a ton, let me get off my 3rd on time. -scout 3rd cc and keep on droning -scout mass rax with 2 engbays wooo drones -around 10 minutes I start mass dropping spore/spines at my bases. This is both greedy and too safe. It's greedy because I have no units, and too safe because if he doesn't drop it doesn't loving matter. Going SH means you have a REALLY hard time with drops and you have to do something similar to this or risk dying. Still not sure what to do here. -he moves out with bio/medivacs. No fact units yet -he cancels my 4th and contains me on 3 bases with a few helions/his army to deny expansions. -I break his helion contain on one of my bases while using sh to stall his bio army - double expand in the hoeps that if one dies I can back up to the other. !!!YIKES id on't have enough banes on top of my SH when I first move out -geez I'm having really good injects this game, hi5 me. -floating like way too many minerals as I'm not USING my injects and I need a macro hatch since 4th/5th was delayed for so long. -he takes his 4th -he overeextends with his bio army and I kill all of it. We now are 4base vs 4base and I start getting my secured with static d and taking my 5th. -I overextend and amove lings directly into HB/bio and that was stupid ugh. -hive is done and I'm bringing out ultralisks. Woo -got a OL making GBS threads on his 5th base to deny it. -opponent takes pretty bad engagements regularly. -hahah even with having spore spine out the rear end a 2 medivac drop kills a hatch and gets out with only half a medivac of losses -_- -I start adding in corrupters into my army to deal with medivacs and prep for bl transition. -I pressure with SH with ultralingbane suppoort - opponent engagees into me and this is where I win. The game goes on but this was the biggest turning point and causes a huge supply differentials. I win engagement > kil his 4th. -chocolate milkshakes are delicious. 1) Bonjwa.567 a.k.a. Pecan 2) Silver! 3) 38 4) Diamond 5) Yup, switching to 6) Replays: 1. http://drop.sc/310061 Win TvZ I felt good about this win just because it was a win. That said, I was only playing a gold and my play was very poor. My opponent went for a weird 3-base "roach-hydra-baneling" into infestors into swarm host (singular). My basic strategy was make many marines, and push at 2-2. So I got 2 engineering bays (one too early, one too late, armory too late) and went for it. In the midst of all the excitement about getting upgrades I forgot about medivacs so I had about 4 when I pushed. Two of them did drops at his main and natural that cleaned out a ton of drones, while I pushed the front. Unfortunately, my force in the front forgot about splitting so it died. However, I had gutted his economy enough that he was never able to quell the 10 reactor rax stream of marines and eventually he lost. Along the way, I hosed up my macro pretty badly, but mostly I think it was a function of having no build order. I'm hoping that once Lemony posts the new Terran thread that will be rectified (thanks Lemony). In the meantime, my plan is to keep on 1 rax FEing versus zerg. 2. http://drop.sc/310063 Loss TvP I proxy Thor, he 4 gates. Not only do I gently caress up by not base trading, after killing off most of his army I send the troops home well before everything is done. Worse, I fail to repair my Thor and lose the game to some zealots. This game the most stunningly poor thing was my decision making, and right after that my army control. Also my inability to hit the "r" key. Forever shamed. 3. Wherein We Drop Many Things http://drop.sc/310099 Win TvT I go for my absolutely standard build described above, a 1 rax FE with a 15 gas (thanks Lemony). My drop gets pretty much shut down by a tank and the fact that I decided to check all the wrong bases and not scout, so it hit super late. However, my next million and a half drops deal pretty significant damage. I run him around the map as I steadily expand. He goes for a Thor based mech maxxx (god knows why, really) and ultimately my big ol' army comes and beats him up. What I've decided I really need to work on is tapping through production structures and making sure that I'm building stuff. Along with that, I'm going to focus on building depots. 4. Wherein We Forget Stim Till 18 Minutes http://drop.sc/310101 Win TvT I go for the same build, he goes for a 1 base pressure build. I defend valiantly with widow mines, and he is palpably sad. I respond with a lovely lovely drop that kills nothing. Then I get massively supply block, forget that you have to research stim and stuff, and get super greedy. He only gets a little greedy. Then I do a cool lil' drop + widow mine harass thing that is mildly effective. Meanwhile, he a-moves to his death. 5. Wherein We Take Bad Engagements, And Learn That Protoss Is Strong http://drop.sc/310102 Loss TvP I go for the same build, he goes for a standard collossus ball. I don't drop enough (or produce enough or transition to ghosts enough) and then, for the icing on the cake, I fail to realize what the map looks like and as a result take an astoundingly poor engagement in the middle of the map and lose. I'm really not sure what to do versus Protoss aoe. 6. Wherein We Learn That Roach Hydralisk is Weak Versus Biological Units; That BCs own http://drop.sc/310160 Win TvZ I go for the same opening. My drop denies mining for a bit but deals little real damage. I split poorly throughout the game, but just overwhelm him with my lovely macro. I build many bases, he does not. He goes for a big roach/hydra/swarm host push that I kill. Worried about my ability to split versus future banelings, I transition into battlecruiser/banshee off the back of a big doom drop in his main (meant to free up supply). It turns out many bcs = strong even versus hydras and the game just kind of ignominiously ends. He exclaims that "this is the oddest loss ever". Really need to work on not supply blocking myself, and moreso remembering to build units. 7. Wherein We Learn That Widow Mines Are Straight Thuggin' http://drop.sc/310161 Win TvT We both open bio. I don't go for the drop, having just lost to him when I did. I was gunshy. Instead, I hide widow mines all over the map and we trade armies for some time. Many clutch widow mines help account for the fact that his macro is just better. Then I go to 7 base when he goes to 4 and eventually overwhelm him with a lovely lovely BC transition. Along the way I lose 3 bases, he loses 3, and many mariners die. I really need to learn how to use mobile widow mines in my MMMWM ball. Also, I should build more marauders. Also, I need siege tanks with my BCs, and to prep researching armories earlier. Also, More Drops. Basically, need to work on macro still. 8. Wherein I Just Die http://drop.sc/310162 Loss TvT Just as I send some drops, enemy troops arrive. The men are slaughtered in their medivacs. Perhaps map vision would have been good, also macroing, like, at all. He just had more men. 9. Wherein We Confirm That Protoss Is Strong http://drop.sc/310163 Loss PvT Same as the other game. Like, actually the same. Same mistakes as well except rather than failing to make vikings I fail to make ghosts. Sad. foutre fucked around with this message at Mar 14, 2013 around 04:39 |

I'll keep an eye on you. Seeing someone convert to the race of skill and honor fills me with great joy! It might help to get an established macro-oriented build and start practicing that, since ZvT hasn't changed terribly except being more fun (MMM+WM) with the option of completely dominating dirty zergs (proxy reapers/mine drops). I've watched a lot of Polt in the Beta and he went to high masters with standard bio/bio+tank and slowly experimenting with more hots units (mines/speedyvacs mainly) near the end. Like hitting near max supply with 2/2 by 14 minutes is a good way to get used to fairly rigorous macro and setting yourself up for aggression. I used to just practice that in an old YABOT map just to warm up when I wasn't completely comfortable with it. I guess it would also help if you decide for yourself whether you're up to meching? Ofc it's early, have fun proxying thors while you can.

I've been doing a 1 rax FE with gas at 15, where I go for an early marine/mine drop and then transition into pure MMMWM, with really heavy drop play because it's fun. So far I've been dismantling Terrans (well, some of them) and getting stomped by any Protoss that makes it to the late game. For the 14 minute max with 2/2, what build order (approximately) should I try? e: consolidating replays foutre fucked around with this message at Mar 14, 2013 around 03:15 |

In TvP you really have to be on point with a lot of things like eyeing their composition and adapting your army. Because you have to respond to them, not the other way around. It wasn't your lack of aggression that did you in, it was your lack of response. Between 7-9 minutes, you have to know what tech the protoss is going. Remember, they cannot fight you without AOE. Gateway units are such garbage. (This is completely personal preference: On Bel'shir Vestige I'm always going to CC first. Mine drops are really good, but work better the earlier you can get them out and into their base. But I also recommend sticking with one build until your absolutely comfortable with it.) You did your drop with marine/mine and got a full scout flying through his base seeing this. ![]() And not a single viking was made. Do NOT make more than 2 rounds of medivacs unless you know his tech route. If you see robo bay, start vikings+add a 2nd starport; a templar archives, then ghost academy/medivacs. Generally, when you make an armory, that's the exact moment you want a 2nd ebay if its not already down. One caveat of the build I think was neglected in Albie's guide was how you want to be in the protoss's face the second stim finishes. The more they were put off by the drop timing, the better you can take advantage of any mistakes and possibly end the game there. However, the way you pulled off the two-prong attack was really, really good. You brought out/confirmed his army was at his nat, escaped, and killed all his important buildings at the main. It was beautiful. ...OTOH Your drop did get cleaned up by 4 colossi and you still didn't make any vikings. You attacked his DT shrine, didn't kill it, and didn't make any turrets. You did everything better than the protoss in terms of aggression, macro, etc., but just didn't counter what he made in a MU where it matters most. Find out what tech the protoss is going, counter it. Get a turret in your natural and main before 10 minutes, always. Also, here are my notes for 3OC TvZ timings. I HIGHLY encourage you to find better ones documented, but just for reference: http://pastebin.com/CX0JDtmR

1) Toudeleski.696 2) Plat 3) 0 4) Diamond 5) Hell no 6) Win (TvT) - Dbl Proxy Reaper vs Reaper FE. He didn't control well/mass reapers and while he floated his proxy barracks away, I sent three reapers to his base and effectively took him out of the game. Win (TvT) - We both Reaper FE'd, but I think he went in-base 2-rax reapers. I screwed up the build entirely paying attention to zeez chat, but figured I was heading mor efficiently into Marine+Tank. I underestimed his army size and lost my first push, but eventually I was 2/2 versus his 1/0 and was able to crush him. I had fairly bad macro all game, but ah well. Win (TvP) - Bomber build, probably a legit metal league so it wasn't too much trouble. Win (TvP) - Very legit metal league. Proxied like 5 pylons before cybercore. Played safe in case of DT's or some nonsense. Tried to be silly with drops when I shoulda just amoved, but np. Win (TvP) - I tried out the IM build. I never do new builds correctly the first time, but he didn't respond well and went into delayed stargate which wasn't a problem. Lose (TvP) - CC first vs Voidray all-in. I scouted it was a 1 base, but took it too lightly and only made 2 bunkers. Hell even DT's prolly coulda killed me. Voidrays still legit OP. 1) rednote.183 2) Silver 3) 0 4) Platinum 5) nope - Swarm till I die 6) Game 1: http://drop.sc/310246 - Win vT I float all the minerals, make a half hearted creep carpet, and rely on the strength of Swarm Hosts/assorted lings, blings, and some roaches to beat a slapdash bio/hellbat force. My attention's all over the place once the battles actually start and I end up ignoring the Overseers I'd morphed for widow mine cleanup, in addition to missing far too many injects. Game 2: http://drop.sc/310250 - Win vT Same story as the last game, though this time I nearly get trounced by a marine rush that I scouted (I think?? Twin racks that early is trouble, right?) and ignored. A brave defense from doomed Queens and a lot of sacrificed lings gets me to the point where again, I float every resource, miss a lot of injects, and a move into the T's natural. Game 3: http://drop.sc/310270 - Loss vZ Early ling harassment from them continues to the point where I let a whole bunch of speedlings eat all of my drones and queens. Was panicked and didn't think to put down a bling nest, which might've saved my rear end (that and putting drones in gas when the extractor pops, not minutes later.) Tossed away my mutas and lings into his hydra/spine line because of frustration, a pain train of Ultras/Hydras finish me off later. Game 4: http://drop.sc/310349 - Win vZ Last game still fresh in my head, I try out some early speedlings/build a bling nest (that never sees use), and try to keep on top of my injects. The latter fell apart about mid-way through as I started to focus on engagements (that likely didn't need my help.) I'm proud of denying the third after it actually hatched and the steady stream of lings/mutas that I drowned their lings/blings with. Not so proud of floating minerals/missing injects/generally playing keyed up and panicked. Game 5: http://drop.sc/310353 - Loss vP Decided to try and be cool with Swarm Hosts/Hydras, got trounced by an Immortal/Sentry push that I was unprepared for 'cause of bad scouting, supply blocks, the usual resource floating, and just general sloppy play. Did a ~little~ better on injects/creep spread though, so, small victories. 3-2 for the night and it's readily apparent that I need to tighten up my basic play - injects need to be on time, supply needs to be watched, scouting needs to actually get done. Looking forward to the next month. Objectivist Rapist fucked around with this message at Mar 15, 2013 around 04:55 |

I'm terrible at this game and I haven't played in a long, long while. I was fairly competent in WoL but played really sporadically. Of the three seasons I actually bothered, I was able to pretty easily get into and stay in the top 8 of a gold league, until I was distracted by something else. Currently my play is really, really bad on all fronts, I blame it on playing too much 4v4. This should motivate me to do better. Also I won't be able to start posting up dailys until the 21st. 1) Eejit.1723 2) Silver ( 3) 83 4) Gold 5) Nope, I like my space elves Replays: 1. http://drop.sc/310165 - PvT, Win - Not much to say here, I saw he had a really early expand so I 4-gated him and won. PS It's an unranked and I think my first 1v1 in over a year. 2. http://drop.sc/310167 - PvZ, Loss - Well this might be the worst-executed FFE ever. My initial plan was to go 3gate stargate with Oracle harass. He had preemptively built spores so that was no bueno, and I let my macro slip entirely so I was swimming in resources by the time his roach/hydra landed on my doorstep. I did have 2 voids out...which would have been great vs roach, but he either scouted me somewhere I didn't see and knew I was going air or just assumed because everyone including me apparently is going skytoss in PvZ. I also didn't have the hydra den scouted; if I had, I would have gladly dropped a robo for colo. What I need help with here is a few things. First, without robo for obs how do I know he's going hydra? Should I have used my oracles to scout the base? In that case, I would have needed to get one out faster, bad bad macro on me. Second, I feel like his attack might have hit before I could have had colo out. Would forcefields from more sentries have been the right call? Also, assuming I had scouted the hydra den, it would have taken me a while to get colo. Could I have had a hold somehow with just gateway units? I know I could have had waaaay more, will work on macro. Dude seemed on point, had 248 apm and a nice, tight build order. Not ready to deal with that yet. 3. http://drop.sc/310167 - PvP, Win - I scout that he's one base but building a wall in like he's going for 2, so I drop a quick second that was probably a few minutes ahead of his and tech robo for an immortal push with a fair amount of stalkers in case he's going air off one base. If he was air on one base, he would either have no ground army or just a few voids, so at the early-mid game stalker/immortal seemed pretty reasonable. Turns out he was going DTs, and since I had obs, it just went poorly for him. When I pushed out he died, although I did forget to build a proxy pylon which could have screwed me over. Pretty happy with how I played this one actually. He tried some MSC harass and I shut that down and I was fairly on top of my resources until the end. Also having someone try DTs and having the obs there to shut it down is nice. I probably lagged on getting that robo out (36 supply, and sloppy) so I might have been vulnerable if he had dropped the dark shrine earlier. I also kept getting supply blocked, which is a recurring theme, so I need to get back on top of that. It's been a looooong while since I've played, so getting back on top of dumb stuff is important. I also need to stop losing my msc, so I think it might get its own group or something. will figure out how to manage it. 4. http://drop.sc/310260 - PvZ, Loss - A slightly more competent FFE this time. I had the idea of what I wanted to do, namely a sentry/immortal push against his 3 base zerg. Which was sorta okay, except my macro and micro was scheisse as usual and I got pushed back by roach hydra. It's okay, drop bay and double robo, make lotsa colossus and win. Which would have been great if I hadn't had been nydused because I wasn't paying attention. Cleared that up and the attact at my wall p easily with the colo. Pushed out with 4 but my macro was way, way bad and I was floating like 1000m, so even though the colo did great, I wasn't doing so hot in the overall battle. Probably actually could have won if I had gotten that first battle down, but I was just outgunned and outplayed. Also I need to scout scout scout a lot more. Also it placed me in silver and I'm mad. (Even though I deserve it.) 5. http://drop.sc/310278 - PvT, Win - Started out, got into his base, saw his standard opener. Sent first zealot to his natural, he's building bunkers so I know it's two base play, I drop my own second nexus. Decide to tech to air with opening oracle harass because I'm in silver. Oracle harass delivers, I net 10 or so worker kills. Transition to building voids assuming he's going to build vikings and I'm correct. My macro wasn't good, so I didn't have the right size army for my initial push, but I won it anyways and wiped out his everything, including his medivacs at the cost of most of my army. I take my third, he doesn't and I know b/c I'm scouting with oracle. He also was scanning a lot instead of dropping mules. Blah blah time goes on, I have a fuckton of resources, time to take this to T3 and build carriers. First wave of carriers finishes as he pushes. Had he been on three base or using mules, he could have pushed earlier and won. I needed to have had a few sentries in place while stalling for my carriers. I had lvl 1 air and armor, he had widow mines and my oracle wasn't nearby. He did get some kills earlier with those as well, gotta be mindful of that since pretty much every terran will use them. Anyways, I hold and have zealot charge done, so dumping excess minerals into zealots. My final push out is with 6 voids, 8 carriers and stalker/zealot underneath. I find his force, a-move the ground while my air attacks his vikings (used prismatic alignment on the voids). I wipe his air, ground goes too. Watching replay he was producing 6 vikings at a time, but with prismatic alignment they just don't hurt so much anymore. Not to mention 8 carriers. I needed to have been more on top of my macro in this game. There were times I was floating >2k minerals, and that should have been dumped into building gateways -> zealots in case he attacked. Didn't get supply blocked as much, though still occasionally. Got zealot charge but didn't get ground armor which would have helped a lot against his bio. Also should have gotten more air upgrades after dropping beacon. And I also didn't do quite enough scouting, I needed to have had eyes in the middle of the map, although I did watch his third so a partial win. gently caress it, I can fit in a game a day. Although there is no way I win anything -- given my WoL league I basically have to win the "highest ranked" or "GM" prize, right? Bad player http://drop.sc/310822 Bad Player http://drop.sc/310821 PvZ http://drop.sc/310820 This game was funny. I am doing the sentry immortal all in, build a robo bay instead of my 3rd gate, turn it into a 10 minute 3 immortal, one colossus, a lot of sentries and stalkers push and kill wave after wave wafter wave of banelings at his choke thanks to the magic of force fields and silver leaguers. Bad Player http://drop.sc/310819 PvZ http://drop.sc/310818 The first semi-challenging game, against a masters duder. Do the robo sentry MSC all in, more or less correctly albeit quite slowly. He has mutas spines and tons of lings, thanks to accidentally overbuilding gates and floating a ton I manage to beat him in an infinity long push. semicolonsrock fucked around with this message at Mar 17, 2013 around 07:07 |
