![]() Hard Reset was developed by Flying Wild Hog, a Polish based company that includes alumni from CD Projekt Red, City Interactive, and the makers of Painkiller. It was released on September 13, 2011 to mixed but largely favorable reviews. One of the biggest complaints of short game time and limited enemies was worked on by the free add on of 5 levels that continued the story and added new foes. This combined game is now the full official version. The gameplay is clearly inspired by an age of games that has largely moved on by such as Quake and Unreal. It's all about moving fast and shooting faster. At it's core it tries really hard to be a fun shoot 'em up, and I feel it hits that mark. There's also a plot. This is what the manual claims: The Manual posted:The world as we know it ceased to exist. Humanity is at the verge of extinction, living in the last closed city of Bezoar. Mankind wages war against machines, controlling vast areas of what became the ‘Barrens’. Machines want to control and assimilate ‘The Sanctuary’, a network that holds billions of digitalized human minds. Our hero, Maj. Fletcher, is a soldier of CLN – a corporation combat unit, established to protect the city. Machines are constantly assaulting the walls of Bezoar. Fletcher moves in when Bezoar’s protective barrier is breached. The LP I will be showing off all the weapons, all the secrets, and as much of the Nano collecting as possible. Joining me will be Chocolate Donuts, friend and compatriot. The plan is do do one update weekly at a minimum, but I've never done a video LP before so we shall see how things shake out. I'd like to do biweekly updates. I'll be playing on Normal, as enemies are just too bullet spongy on harder difficulties. I will also be collecting all secrets, but not necessarily all NANO pickups. There are additional modes that I will do at least demonstrations of. Spoilers? Please no spoilers of any kind. The game is not too in depth, but I'd still like to keep a lid on things. ![]() Videos Video One - First Contact (with Chocolate Donuts) Youtube Video Two - Sector 6 (with Chocolate Donuts) Youtube Video Three - The Chase (with Chocolate Donuts) Youtube Video Four - Shantytown (with Chocolate Donuts) Youtube JossiRossi fucked around with this message at Apr 14, 2013 around 02:39 |

Weapons/Upgrades The gun system is quite interesting. The player has access to the CLN Firearm, and an N.R.G. Weapon. Each pulls from it's own pool of ammo. You can then purchase new firing modes for these guns, which let's you use more useful and powerful attacks. I'll be prioritizing upgrading the weapons over some of the other upgrades in order to show all the types of guns off, but it will take a while. ![]() CLN Firearm Upgrades
![]() N.R.G. Weapon Upgrades
![]() Combat Gear Upgrades
Beastiary As I encounter enemies I'll be giving you the rundown of them here. These Health and Shield values represent enemy health on Easy. ![]() M.M.U.6M Pecker A very basic melee rush enemy. They are almost always found in large groups and make a bee-line for the player. Their only attack is to jump at the player in an attempt to slash them. ![]() M.E.U. 750 Grinder A variant of the pecker. Instead of a buzz saw, the Grinder has a set of propellers that it can use to rise off the ground and fly at its enemies. ![]() M.E.U.34M Savage A suicide unit comprised of a bomb with legs. If the player is at distance the Savage will curl into a ball and launch himself to cover the distance. They explode on death, or on command once within range of the player. ![]() M.R.U11B Gorilla The Gorilla is a tank, taking a lot of damage to kill. Its main attacks are to rush the player, knocking them backwards and dishing out lots of pain. They can also stomp their foot to release a shockwave that will damage the player. ![]() M.E.U. 130 Flash Flashes are the first ranged enemy we have encountered. They move quickly and fire a 3 shot plasma blast. If you get up close they will attempt to kick the player. It's best to take them on from cover as if all their hits land, you'll be in trouble. Their center mass is comprised of the torso and head of a corpse. ![]() M.E.U. 13C Puncher Instead of firing a weapon, these bipedal organic harvested bipeds will rush towards you and attempt to slash you open. They move very fast and often come in groups of 3 or 4. ![]() M.E.U. 46G Spitfire The Spitfire has a similar structure to the Gorilla, but instead of charging at people, they use the shoulder mounted RPG launchers to fire a barrage of explosives at their targets. Chocolate donuts starts accusing people of being sociopaths the second he's not crashing cars into innocent people and property. The robots in that arena area reminded me a bit of some of the robots in Screamers, so, I like this game.

Ahhhh this game. I have a love/hate relationship with this game. On the one hand, I love the rediculous guns you have and the level design is pretty fun. On the other hand, there is some epic bullcrap you run into that made me so mad I uninstalled the bastard. EDIT: Ahahahahaha I forgot about the rediculous plot and how bad the VAs are. I agree, the menu is pretty drat cool, and Fletcher is definetly a robot racist. That loving cement mixer had it coming! Dreadwroth fucked around with this message at Mar 7, 2013 around 12:48 |

It's sort of a shame that the voice work and the writing are so poor while the visuals are great and the game play enjoyable. There's a certain charm to the story in how little sense it makes, but something a bit more engaging and rational would have helped a lot. There are some frustrating game play events and I'll mention them as I hit them, but I like to stay positive so I'll try not to dwell on anything too much. I'm also not sure what difficulty you were on, but it helps to play on Normal. Harder difficulties are just obnoxious.

Oh hey, I remember when the trailer for this debuted, and then nothing more was heard about this game. The hilariously bad VA was one of the things that stood out for me. That and the utterly inscrutable plot summary the MC gives at the start. Also, I think that last 5% of Nano was that secret stash you showed off, but never got. It looked like you walked right past it shortly before the video ended.

There will be no losers. Not sure if anyone else is as anal as me about the Nano, but I am pretty sure the one I missed is behind a dumpster near a big "Breaking News!" tv screen I stared at for a bit trying and failing to get a short announcement to play. I'm gonna dig it up and reload and see how it goes. I would honestly suggest giving it a try on Easy. There is obviously far less challenge, but the game can wear a little thin if you aren't enjoying the grind of waves of enemies. On easy you level up faster too, so you get access to everything earlier and less penalty for poor choices. The end result is you become a living god really early on and it becomes a game about just how big a boom and how fast you can annihilate the robots. It's much more fun, the game works best the less you need to worry about it I think. JossiRossi fucked around with this message at Mar 7, 2013 around 17:55 |

Certainly with gorillas I just can't actaully hit them with it, I have to aim at the ground they are standing on for it to do anything. Is that a bug? Similarly with the grenades, half the time a direct hit will just bounce of a lie on the ground.

Man, what is it with Polish or Eastern European game companies and awesome shooters? The other one that comes to mind being Painkiller, but I'm sure there's more out there as well. I would have sacrificed all the graphical advances for just filling the screen with as many enemies as my computer could possibly handle. Still, Hard Reset is proof that the '10,000 enemies vs You' FPS Genre is still alive and kicking. I'm amazed that I'd never heard of it before. How long will it be before we get a similar game that simply eschews plot altogether and just gives us pretty weapons and exotic (and chemically unstable) locales to use them in?

I actually just got this game yesterday, and I've played through about half of it. One thing that annoyed me though, even on normal, there are some fights later on that will obliterate you repeatedly until you figure out the environment gimmicks or weapons that will win you the day. Particularly that fight on the two floor room at the end of this video is really hard without the grenade launcher or energy mortar. McKilligan posted:Man, what is it with Polish or Eastern European game companies and awesome shooters? The other one that comes to mind being Painkiller, but I'm sure there's more out there as well.
