Hey guys! I'm in my last semester here in Minneapolis, and I actually have a bit of scratch to try some new restaurants around town before I leave. I didn't see any restaurant threads for Minneapolis, at least not for a while (no archives :/) and I'd like to try some new places, so I figured it might as well become a thread for general Minneapolis dining.

Any and all suggestions/recommendations welcome. I can write up a few places in the UMN area if anyone is interested, since that's where I've spent pretty much all my time for the last 4 years.

I am very witty: nit-witty, dim-witty, and half-witty.

If you ever find yourself near the Roseville or Richfield suburbs, I heartily recommend Khan's Mongolia Barbecue. I try and stop in every time I'm down there, it's good stuff.

Little Szechuan in St. Paul has the best/most authentic Chinese food in the Twin Cities (best I've had outside of China). They also have a location in St Louis Park but it's more 'upscale' and it is in the West End complex which is my personal version of hell. The St. Paul one is a bit more down to earth. Blue Door Pub (two locations- St Paul/Longfellow) has pretty good juicy lucy burgers at a pretty affordable price, and from 2-6 daily it's 2 dollar pints of everything they have on tap, some of which is awesome (Surly, Indeed, Summit, Harriet etc).

Now that I'm scouring my memory for restaurants I like, I'm realizing that I mainly know about beer-centric places, slightly dumpy dive bars, and good happy hours. I dunno if that's what you're looking for, but I can divulge further if need be.

Also! Go up Lake Street between 35 and Hiawatha and eat at a taqueria, they're awesome. I have been to Taqueria de la Hacienda a few times, it's pretty good but seems a bit expensive for what it is. Another one I've heard about is Los Ocampo, which is supposedly much better.

Dude, bring on the bar recommendations. I love being over 21 so very much.

And Anchor is awesome. Haven't been there in a while, but it was amazing last time I was there.

I highly recommend Dang Quang Minh for anyone in the University area. It's just outside of Dinkytown, and they have amazing general Asian food, with the best curry I've had so far around here. Also: cheap and huge portions.

Origami Sushi is excellent- 30 North First Street. Reminded me why I miss city dining.

Casual recommendation: if you like Vietnamese, I liked "Pho 79" last time I was there- 2529 Nicollet Ave according to google maps. I wasn't driving but that looks like the place.

Also casual- Kramarchuk's (sp?) deli has an attached restaurant, great authentic cabbage rolls and pierogies, usually. Last time I was there it wasn't so good but that was once in many visits. 215 E Hennepin Ave. Google seems to think it closed or relocated, but worth checking if you're in the neighborhood.

Oh baby, oh baby!

Al Vento. http://www.alventorestaurant.com/ It is my favorite restaurant ever. Very good Italian food. Mmmm. 5001 34th Ave S Minneapolis, MN 55417

There is really good Vietnamese food at Trieu Chau. I love the noodle salads, husband loves the pho. 500 University Ave W, St Paul, MN 55103

For yummy bar food and a ridiculously good beer list, visit Busters on 28th: http://www.busterson28th.com/

That is also true for the Blue Door Pub: http://www.thebdp.com/

An idea might be to try all the Juicy Lucys in town before you go. Our culinary gift to the world.

In addition to Blue Door's Blucys there are:

Hell' Kitchen http://www.hellskitcheninc.com/. This has nothing to do with the show, and everything to do with a man who is to food what Hunter S. Thompson was to journalism. Their Breakfast menu is amazing, and I believe it is served all day.

Also Psycho Suzi's http://www.psychosuzis.com/. The food is pretty standard stuff, but the atmosphere is the real reason to go. I know on Friday and Saturday nights they have a tiki band that plays too.

For my money, the best Rachel you can get in town...literally, the BEST rachel, is at the 331 Club in northeast. I dunno how they do it but I have had this sandwich all over this city, and 331 is far away the best (and much less expensive than most other places).

The best country fried steak and eggs has to go to Uptown Diner on 26th and Hennepin. I have never had more delicious 'country style' gravy loaded with sausage at any restaurant outside of this one.

Hell's Kitchen does indeed have awesome food. They have this little window behind the bar that you need to buy yourself a cubano or pulled pork sandwich from during a show sometime.

I haven't been yet, but Burch which recently opened on Franklin and Hennepin is supposedly really good (according to a friend that barbacks there). Don't let all the people dressed up fancy scare you off, that's just people putting on a pretense. There's no dress code and people just like to show up fancy because it is a new place.

If you want meatballs you need to check out Devil's Advocate on 10th and Nicollet (between Marquette and Nicollet). They have a decent happy hour with lots of good poo poo on tap, and like I said you really need to try the meatballs. They have a variety of meats and different sauces you can try with them. Either get the sampler or get the chicken with creamy mushroom sauce.

If you're a fan of brunch I have three suggestions for you, ranging from classy to unclassy. Firstly, hit up Red Stag in northeast. Get a 'wake up' beer. It would be wise to make a reservation for brunch there. Less classy but not lovely is The Local on the corner of 10th and Nicollet, get the brunch buffet which comes with a free mimosa. Load up on bacon and creamy hashbrowns...you will thank me. That place is also Irish so if you're into that sort of breakfast food you will find yourself well fed. Also I haven't mentioned it yet but this my favorite bar in any part of the city. You should be going to The Local all the time. Lastly, for the best cheap to acceptable ratio, try Bar Abilene in uptown. The food is all a bit spcy/southwestern style, but the main attraction is bottomless mimosas or bloody marys for $3. That's no poo poo, $3 and they will keep filling up your mimosa waaaay after you should have gone home. They don't stop until they run out of sparkling wine, and not long after than it switches to 2-for-1s. A place to easily waste an entire Sunday afternoon with your buddies.

Thirding the Hell's Kitchen recommendation. Their Bloody Mary is the best thing ever, really.

My favorite burger in town has to be at Republic over at seven corners. Great pub/restaurant. I forget exactly what the burger was called, but drat near everything on that menu is delicious. They have an outdoor seating area that is absolutely wonderful in the summer. It's my favorite place to eat in Minneapolis, no doubt.

Republic has awesome happy hour specials, too.

Also doing the obligatory Al's Breakfast plug. Best pancakes I've had in the cities, and the atmosphere is half the fun.

My favorites are Heartland (good local stuff), La Belle Vie (classic), Gasthof Zur Gemutlichkeit (German deliciousness), Cosmos (contemporary), and Restaurant Alma (classic). Meanwhile, I think WA Frost and Barbette are hugely overrated and basically not worth the time. (Especially Barbette, which was a pretty lovely experience all around.)

I can attest to Hells Kitchen. I have yet to get something I didn't love.
If you like ethnic food as much as I do, go to Emily's Lebanese Deli in North Minneapolis. They make the best tabouli and kabobs in the state.
"It's Greek to Me" is an uptown staple on Lyndale and Lake street that has been around for ages.

Swung by Al's with some people after an all night study session and the waitress asked us when the school bus started dropping off in that area. Good times.

Pizza Luce is good.

moto-i's in uptown is an interesting place to hit.

I love Tilia in Linden Hills near Lake Como. They've got a pretty impressive beer list and lots of great, unique food. It's a tiny, tiny restaurant and I don't think they take reservations, so go early.

My favorite restaurant near the UMN campus is Camdi, a little shack in Dinkytown serving Vietnamese food with great lunch specials. If you go, check out the art on the walls, massive original oil paintings.

Some favorite Uptown restaurants/bars: Muddy Waters is kinda like Tilia; The Herkimer is a fun bar with a classy shuffleboard table; World Street Kitchen is newly opened and has fun Asian/Mexican fusion dishes.

I go to La Cucaracha in St Paul for Mexican food (and margaritas). Pizza Luce for pizza, delivery or dine-in. Evergreen on Eat Street for Chinese. Al Vento for exquisite Italian.

Seconding Uptown Diner for breakfast. Also if you've never been to a Keys for breakfast, you've got to go before you leave.

Everybody's free to feel good...

Once it warms up, Sea Salt. It's located in the old/converted shelter in Minnehaha Park and has good food and beer. It's a fun place to go and hang out (again, only once it's warm out).

When I lived near Dinkytown, I used to eat at Shuang Cheng a lot.

For breakfast, I like French Meadow Bakery in uptown. This is an oddly specific recommendation, but if you like doughnuts go to Sarah Jane's Bakery in northeast. Delicious.

This makes me wish I still lived in the Cities. So many good restaurants.

Isn't it widely accepted that the beer at the Herkimer sucks rear end? I've also heard they've circulated through a few different brewmasters recently, so maybe this has changed, I dunno. I went once about a year ago, had a few of their offerings and they were average to bad.

Are you tripping, Agent Dunham?

Mannys for the best steak in the state, very pricey. Lucia's for brunch. Not a fan of Uptown Diner myself but it does hold the distinction of being one of the few late night places around. I prefer The Egg & I for breakfasty stuff.

I've had some decent Thai at Tum Rup Thai. Although if you like spicy getting their pad thai at its spiciest isn't very.

I like the burgers at Rudolphs too.

Call me unoriginal, but I will echo Manny's and Hell's Kitchen. The best french dip sandwich I had in my entire goddamned life was at Hell's Kitchen.

I'm going to recommend Quang Restaurant for some Vietnamese, Blue Nile for Ethiopian, and Sonora Grill inside Midtown Global Market for some dank skirt steak tacos.
