It is a large adventure at a puzzle!
This game is a game which ventures by the power of a puzzle together with a monster.
I will venture the dungeon in the world and will find out a legendary dragon!
Thanks to Vanilla Mint Ice for the first OP template that I am shamelessly scribbling over~

Meet the currently largest grossing F2P Mobile Game in the world, a crack-laced fusion of Bejeweled and Pokemon.

  • Starters now have another evolution which grants double-elements. (They're still not worth the effort unless you have the worst luck imaginable)
  • Legendary Dragons now all have "Ultimate" Evolutions, as well as a special dungeon that is all 5 in a row. This dungeon also has a rare chance to spawn + drop Ice Muspelheim, who does not have an evolution.

Puzzle & Dragons is a SOCIAL, FREEMIUM game from JAPAN where you kill monsters, take their eggs, hatch them and fuse them to your other monsters, and then finally evolve them by jamming seeds and plants down their throat to create dragons. The main part of this game takes place on bejeweled style board except you can drag an orb to any location on the board while displacing orbs to create combos. Just watch it yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bE9CP9Q07OU (The success rate of your attempts to make diagonal swaps is directly correlated to the size of your phone/tablet screen and how long you've been playing the game, so don't count on them when you're starting out)

Intrigued? The puzzle part is pretty neat and centric and you NEED to get good at it later on, but there's actually a huge non obvious hidden depth to this game; The management. Once your training wheels are taken off the enemies start showing up with defenses in the thousands, can you hit you for thousands, and will probably appear in groups of three attacking you in the same turn. A normal gamer would say this is a bullshit paywall and uninstall the app, which is the proper reaction for freenium games like these but there are actually many ways to get around these challenges outside of 'more numbers'. In the special limited time dungeons, where most of the good stuff in this game drops. The kind of team you go in with will decide whether or not you even have a chance of beating it before the match started.

And yes, there is IAP. No you do not need IAP but IAP will speed up the time it takes for you to progress. Try not to spend hundreds of dollars every month.

Also the art is rad and there are cool looking dragons (and non dragons):

    Strategy, Tips, FAQ

  • The five fundamental puzzle patterns

Memorize this and be able to recognize these patterns on the board. These are the basic 3-orb patterns that will pop up and you need to be able to quickly string them all together to create sick combos.

  • The timer does not start ticking until you move an orb
Take your time to examine the board and plan out your point of attack and where to go from there.

    Nendil posted:

Hi guys, your local savant weirdo Ra enthusiast here. I saw some people asking for guides on how to make Egyptian rainbow combos, so I thought I'd do a little writeup to de-mystify it a bit.

    - Walk Like an Egyptian: Basic strategy -

  • Which starter should I pick? Fire, water or wood?
Pick whichever you want. Pick the one you always or never take in pokémon, or the color you want your user badge to be. There are minor differences between them like the fire starter has a higher ATK(Attack), the wood starter has a higher RCV(Recovery), and the water starter is balanced between them but it really doesn't matter. Although fire teams are easier to create than water or wood teams.

  • Favorite all your important monsters
Go to monster box and favorite all the stuff you don't want to accidentally sell and fuse when you go drunk puzzle and dragoning. (Never drink and puzzle)

  • How do I get magic stones?

Otherwise, you get a magic stone for beating all the stages in a given dungeon. You also get magic stones for logging in x amount of days like 3 stones after playing for ten days and 5 stones after playing for thirty days. There are also special occasions where everybody gets a free magic stone from the devs.

  • How should I spend my magic stones? Should I replenish my st-
NO!!! Unless you are a :thousandbux: player do not spend your stones on stamina refills until much, much later when you are getting ~70+ stamina out of the deal, or special cases like crazy events.

That said, the five major uses of magic stones, ordered from best use to fringe (though these are all valuable depending on circumstances):
    1. 5 stones for a rare egg roll (during 3x and 4x events)
    2. Expand your monster boxes by five
    3. Expand your friends list by five
    4. Refill stamina
    5. To continue a battle when you die

You should really be saving your stones for the rare egg pull. Don't just freely spend stones on the egg machine though, save them for GodFests or other high profile events which massively increase the likelihood of picking up certain monsters. Expand your boxes only ~as needed~. As needed means you have just enough space and then some for evo materials for the monsters you want to evolve. As for continuation, if you need to read this OP then you are not in a situation where you should use a magic stone to continue after dying and won't be for a long time. Once you get a cool monster that's all maxed out and you can't add any more people you would like to, feel free to toss a stone towards friend list expansion every once in a while. Refills and Continues are pretty much only for special circumstances.

  • My team sucks. I'm rank 40 and it takes me forever to kill things. Can you take a look at my team and tell me whats wrong?

Yeah, your team is trash. You got 90 monster boxes even though the only things of value on your team are your water starter and a lil black dragon. Also did you fuse/sell all your rare egg pulls or something?? You should reroll.

Since you're reading this OP I hope you wouldn't end up in that situation. I highly, highly recommend that if you find out that you really like this game and can see yourself playing for a long time to then 'reroll' until you have a good rare pull. Now what do people mean when they say reroll? We are saying that you should delete the app, reinstall it, and play through the tutorial again and see what you get with the free rare egg pull. Yeah it's tedious, watch a movie or a hockey game or something while you do it. Additionally, there's a way to get around the uninstall/reinstall: Android users can go into settings and clear the app data, and iOS users can connect their device to their computer and use iFunBox to delete data48.bin.

Some people will say you should reroll until you get a God type monster, others say 5 star monsters or even certain 4 stars monsters are good enough, however they are babies and you should almost definitely reroll until you obtain a qualifying God. It depends on your tolerance and how much you are willing to keep rerolling to become the PADmon Master Nerd. Rolling a good starting monster will literally save you weeks of time at the start, and become a valuable asset that could save much more additional time farming later on when you can properly utilize it inside/outside of the leader slot. A good starting God will carry on through the entire game, so don't waste the opportunity.

REFER TO THE SECOND POST FOR GODS AND HOW TO USE THE ONE<S> YOU ROLL

  • What are these Evo Material? Enhance Material??

Evo materials are monsters used for evolving your other monsters. Enhance materials are monsters who give a lot of experience when fed to your monsters.

  • Help I'm broke. How come it is so expensive to power up/enhance my monsters?

You're broke because you're dum (and haven't read this OP). Monsters need more and more experience as they level while that flamie you are using to feed will always give the same amount of experience points. The idea is that you have to start feeding better monsters as your monster level or you will stay broke.

An early strategy once the monster you want to level is over 10 and up to the second set of normal dungeons is to feed your 'feeders' to evolved carbuncles, and then feed your carbuncles to your monster. Evolved knights are also accepted. Around 30 you want to switch to evolved pengdras. Red/Blue/Green Pengdras are found in the technical dungeons, which are unlocked after the Castle of Satan. Light and Dark Pengdra come from the "Pengdra Village" dungeon which has similar appearance conditions to the metal dragons (see next paragraph). All Pengdra also have a chance of dropping from the PAL Machine. They max at level 10 with exactly 2556 experience points and will give 9000 experience points when fed to a monster of the same color. But if you evolve them with 1 dragon plant and 2 same colored metallic dragon they will give 45k exp to a same color monster. The exceptions are Light and Dark Pengdra. Light Pengdra only require 1 gold, and Dark pengdra require 3 metal.

There are also special metallic dragon events that appear three times a day for an hour and are spaced five hours apart from one another. They are super easy dungeons that cost 15/20 stamina and will give you a chance to get metallic dragons that can give 1500+, 15000+, or 75000+(!) experience points to the same color monsters. It's these same events where you will find the small metallic dragons to evolve the pengdras. Unless you got other more pressing needs for your stamina, I recommend you spend your stamina on these events when they appear. Check puzzledragonx for the schedules.

Also if you haven't unlocked technical dungeons yet then don't stress yourself out too much trying to level up that sweet god you got from your first pull. You'll go broke and not have much to show for it.

  • Where do I farm xxx Evo Material?

Rubylit, Sapphilit, etc: Dungeon of Fire to Dungeon of Dark. Recommended to do it during a 1/2 stamina bonus.
Red Evolve Mask, Blue Evolve Mask, etc: Volcano of Vulcan to Pluto Valley.
Crimson Demon Mask, Indigo Demon Mask, etc: Fire Forest Nerva to Twin Temple Diana. Recommended to do it during a 1.5x item drop bonus.
Divine Carmine Mask, Divine Indigo Mask, etc: I recommend farming them in the second stage of the first set of the technical dungeons. Wednesday on Expert is also an option (bring a Shiva/Poison!)
Keeper of Fire, Keeper of Light, etc: The red, blue and green keepers are the bosses of their level in the Tuesday Dungeons. The light and dark keeper are random encounters in the tuesday dungeons.
Dub-rubylit, Dub-sapphiiit, etc: Friday Dungeon on expert.

Dragon Seed: Thursday Dungeon. Otherwise Departure Tower.
Dragon Plant: Thursday Dungeon. Otherwise The Tower of Trials.
Dragon Flower: Thursday Dungeon. Otherwise Tower of Giants.
    Dragon Fruit: Thursday Dungeon.

  • Where do I get the ~special~ evo materials?

Mythlit: He's the boss of the Friday dungeon on Adept. Otherwise he appears onwards from the fourth set of normal of dungeons and also in the technical dungeons.
Mystic Mask: Wednesday Dungeon on Expert.
Keeper of ~Rainbow~: He has his own special Tuesday Dungeon.
    Dub-mythlit: Friday Dungeon on Expert.

  • Extremely valuable and farmable monsters

When you don't have anything better to do, I recommend you fill out your rosters by farming for one of these:

    1. Colored Resist Dragons, AKA "Rippers". These are the little dragons that will pop out of the PAL machine. You definitely want all 5, and fully evolved at that. Try to get a bunch of friends so you have a steady stream of PAL points to roll the machine with.
    2. A Healer who at 5 stars will heal you every turn for three times their RCV as long as you matched an orb: Cupid(light), Dryad(wood), Mermaid(water). Cupid and Dryad at 5* will have an active skill that heals you for 10x team RCV. Mermaids have an active skill that will change fire orbs to heal orbs. The 5* Mermaids aka Siren the Enchanter are the choice healer of the three by the pros and so you are highly, highly recommended to get one, even if you got one of the other two already. Mermaid's active skill is also 'easily' leveled up by fusing the evolved water goblins to her. You can farm these in the second and third set of dungeons where they appear as bosses.
    3. Naga, the fire 'Healer'. She has the valuable active skill 'Menace' which delays all enemy attack by 3 turns. Her leader skill is trash though. Like cupid/dryad/mermaid, naga is farmed in the second and third set of dungeons.
YOU WILL WANT AT LEAST ONE MAX SKILL NAGA Farm them for skill ups during Dragon events (Legendary, Sky, Mech) and hang on to them for 2x Skill-Up Events
    4. Succubus, the dark 'Healer'. She has the active skill 'Poison Mist' which is a key to dealing with gimmick monsters who have extremely high defense but low hp as it deals her ATK on every enemy for every turn until it dies. Her leader skill gives you more time to drag the orb around. Like the other four female healers, she is farmed in the second and third set of dungeons.
    5. Vampire. He's a dark monster with a leader skill that 2x dark attacks and an active skill changes heal orbs to dark orbs. Orb changers are highly regarded in this game and the evolved vampire, Vampire Lord, is a key anchor in all dark teams. Their active skill is also 'easily' leveled using big baddies. They are an random encounters in the Castle of Satan. Farm for one during a 1.5x item bonus.
    6. Titan. He has the leader skill 'Resolve' which allows you to survive with 1hp if you get killed while you have 70% hp or more, similar to the one ogres all have. Note it only works once per turn so you will still die when fatally hit twice in the same turn. Their active skill changes heal orbs to fire orbs and are 'easily' leveled up by using the evolved fire goblins. Titans are farmable in the Tower of Giants and the Tower of Trials.

  • I just got a lil dragon from the PAL machine. What are these? Are they any good? They don't even give good exp so should I just sell them?

Lil dragons start out at 2* but when they are evolved three times and into their 5* form their leader skill gives a 50% damage reduction to their color and their active skill is a 20000 colored nuke to all enemies. Their stats are also very good. In fact having a full squad of all five colors is recommended.

  • Friends? I don't need Friends! Friends, What is it good for?

Absolutely everything. Friends will be a key part of your team composition because your friend's leader skill will activate and in almost all cases, stack with your own leader skill. If you followed my advice to reroll until you got a kicking rad elite monster then everyone in the world will want to be your friend. In that situation you will have to be selective in choosing who are your friends (because you have limited friends slots). Don't just look at the attack stats but also their active skill, leader skill, hp and rcv. Note that you can't reuse a friend until they log back in. Another note, they have to first accept your friend request and be your friend before their leader skill will activate.

  • What is this gift trading people are talking about?

Once you hit rank 20 you can choose one friend to give a present to. You and your chosen friend will each get one of the three starter dragons or the equivalent light or dark dragon. The idea is to do this with someone who will also use their present on you so you will both have two chances. So just ask to gift trade with someone in this thread by posting your friend code (find it in Friend->ID Search). By the way there's no way to actually trade stuff between users.

  • What is this about leveling your skill?

When you fuse a monster to your monster that both have the same skill, there is a supposedly 20% chance it will get a skill up. When you evolve it the skill levels will stay the same if the evolved form have the same skill. It does not matter when you are fusing whether you use one or five at the same time. Leveling your skill level reduces the active skill's cooldown by 1 turn per level.

  • I just got an egg with a big plus sign on it, what is this?

That means that monster has a stat bonus on one of their stat. You can see which one it is by looking at their stats; +1 in hp gives 10hp, +1 in atk gives +5atk, and +1 in rcv gives +3rcv. More importantly, you can transfer this stat bonus to one of your more useful monsters by fusing it to them. I recommend fusing your +1 hp bonuses to monsters you use the most. I recommend fusing your +1 atk bonuses to monsters who are part of your main attack team and/or has an active skill that is based off of their atk stat like dragons and poisoners. It is recommended to fuse your +1 rcv to your healer and if you have multiple, prioritize all of them to Amaterasu >>> Mermaid > Cupid/Dryad. The maximum +1 bonuses a monster can have is +99 to each stat to a total of +297. Note that fusing plus bonuses increases fusing costs dependent on how many pluses the monster you're fusing to already have.

A cheaper way to handle this is to stockpile different +eggs on things that don't level up past ten; base form carbuncles, slimes, etc. Keep 3 around, one for atk, one for hp, one for rcv. Every additional +egg costs 1k gold to add, on top of the current level cost. It saves a fair bit of money to stock up 10 or 20 pluses on a single mule monster and then feed to your target.

  • I don't know what I'm doing. I don't know who or where I am. Please recommend me a team formation.

A good, classic, and basic team is a team of the same color where you and your friend's leader have a leader skill that boosts your color of choice's attack. Some sort of orb changer in these teams are a must at advance levels. Mystic knights, the orb changer who changes your color's weakness to your color (for example fire to wood) are farmable in expert and master levels of the special dungeons. The second type of orb changer is the Attack Stance orb changers who changes heal orbs to your color, and they are either very easy or hard to impossible to get depending on the color. Fire and dark (Titan and Vampire) can farm for theirs in the normal dungeons. Water, Wood, and Light (Berserker, Highlander, Valkyrie) are only farmable through endgame dungeons.

Another good basic team is basically just one that has either you or your friend's leader as one of the four fully evolved autohealers (Alarune, Amaterasu Ohkami, Archangel, Siren the Enchanter). Get some attacking power or maybe a leader with a 30/50% colored damage reduction and you'll be set for a good part of the early and middle game.

  • When do the metallic dragons appear? Is the time each day always the same?

    1. Use this stylesheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...bGxYQTFUTUZEWFE (Edit your own id in to get the correct times.)
    2. Check puzzledragonx, they keep a schedule on the right side of the layout.
    3. Join the unofficial facebook group, http://www.facebook.com/groups/PADGlobal/, and look at their pinned post for the US dragon time tables. Now go to Friend->ID Search and look at your own ID. The third digit of your ID to the left tells you which 'group' you belong to. For example mine is 303,936,292, so I belong on the D group. Now that you know your group, look at the time table to see when dragons appear for you. The time may change from day to day so just check daily. Note that no matter what they always appear 5 hours apart for a total of 3 times daily.

  • What am I even doing?

As a new player, you have a few immediate objectives:
    1. Clear Castle of Satan to unlock Technical Dungeons
    2. Obtain 1 of every Resist Dragon from the PAL machine (Li'l Red, Li'l White, etc)
    3. Complete the first 2 technical dungeons.
    4. Start evolving everything you can, starting with those Dragons. Get them to their 5* forms.

Once you unlock technical dungeons by clearing CoS, clear the first two dungeons so that you have access to that first set of 3. This will give you the chance to participate in Red/Green/Blue Pengdra farming. Collect Pengdra as you go, and start collecting as many Jewel Dragons to evolve them as you can carry. Run Tower of Giants on the weekends for Dragon Plants and chances at earning Titan/Ranking up (if you're just concerned about ranking up, Dragons of the Tower is the best and will take you up to Rank ~66 without ever needing to stop, that is a total of 50 stamina), or Tower of Depature for Dragon Plants. Run Thursday Dungeon for more Dragon Plants.

  • What are some mobs that I can use to fill out my team early on?

    1. Big Slimes. Every color of Big Slime (that isn't green) has a useful orb change, and they all have relatively high HP. Don't focus too much attention on them, but when you're still trying to just fill every slot, this is easily one of the better choices.
    2. Samurai Goblins for Fire, and Marine Goblins for Water are both decent orb changers that are low-effort to snatch up.
    3. Devils. Devils have a really short XP curve and hit really hard when leveled up. They are also fairly cheap to evolve in both stages. Keep in mind they have some of the lowest HP stats in the game. Obtainable from the PAL machine at the very start, but are otherwise farmable after Castle of Satan.
    4. Dragon Fruit, from Thursday Dungeon. They are Wood element, with 300 in their stats across the board.
    5. Chimera are like devils. Easy to farm with high ATK, but they peak faster than devils do, so they require less effort to run. Access to these requires having cleared Castle of Satan, as they are the fodder mobs from Technical dungeons.
    6. Keepers of Fire/Woods/Water/Darkness/Light, from Tuesday Dungeon. With your God starter and an appropriate buddy, these should be fairly easy to farm. [Rainbow Keeper is also an extremely solid Dark team member, but it has 25 Cost and is also a significantly harder dungeon in general that you wont be able to complete at the very start as it requires special ~stratz~]
    7. Dublits/Dub-mythlits, from Friday Dungeon, are a great early game team buffer mob, as they are relatively easy to obtain and have 1 Cost. Requires 25 stamina to access the dungeon. Run a team with an Ogre and 4 small -lits, all of the same color. Bring along an autohealer buddy who can heal you for most or all of your HP. Combining this with your God starter will make early game even more of a breeze. http://ggftw.com/forum/1790008-post371.html details how this works in practice.

These mobs are something that you can immediately focus on as a new player before moving on to bigger and better things. A couple of other monsters of note:

    1. If Tri-Color Whiskey Dragon Dungeons are live, you can farm the easier difficulties for Barley Dragons. These little things are basically like Pengdra that don't evolve. They take about 1k more EXP to max out but are worth more than unevolved Pengdras when fed (18k to same color).
    2. Titan is arguably easier to farm than the Healer girls because of an easier dungeon, combined with the weekend stamina bonus and the relatively high XP/Stam ratio means you can pretty much continually run Giant Guards until you are rank 40 without stop. This is also a great source of stockpiling Dragon Plants/Flowers.

    Backup

Remember to back up your app data files, REMEMBER TO BACK UP YOUR DATA, REMEMBER TO BACK UP YOUR loving DATA JESUS CHRIST (Especially data48.bin). There is no login or anything so if you uninstall this game or wipe out your phone then you would not be able to access your old account anymore. iOS users should backup with itunes and use a 3rd party tool like iFunBox just to be safe. Android users should backup with a 3rd party tool like Titanium Backup (or Carbon for unrooted users).
Backing up is relatively simple as it only ever needs to be done once. The only things stored on your phone is the actual account access information, and your monster book. So if you back up as soon as you finish the tutorial and get your choice starter, you wont have to worry about it ever again.

TL;DR: If you don't hate yourself, only roll during GodFests. Otherwise queue up a few movies. If the monster you rolled isn't in one of these tiers, keep rerolling. It doesn't matter how good you think it is.

God King Tier (Best of the Best)

Top Tier (You could stop here):

Okay Tier (Not the best, but very useable anyway):

I'm Sick Of Rerolling Tier:

Text version, for CTRL+F-ing:

God King Tier: Isis, Horus, Archangel Lucifer, Ares, Hermes, Artemis, Freyr, Freyja, Idunn & Idunna, Odin the War Deity [Blue Odin]

Top Tier: Apollo, Persephone, Shiva, Lakshmi, Parvati, Vritra, Indra, Loki, Odin [Green Odin],

Okay Tier: Baal, Bastet, Hades, Neptune, Ceres, Venus, Yomi, Amaterasu, Viper Orochi, Thor, Valkyrie

Sick of Rerolling: Minerva, Siegfried the Blue Champion, Cu Chulainn the Green Spear, Ancient Dragon Knight

What is a God? (a miserable pile of magic stones)

A God is just a monster type, like Healer and Dragon. But the big difference is that Gods in this game are only obtainable from the rare egg machine (save for very few rare exceptions). That means the only time you are guaranteed in getting a free God is in the very beginning when you start the game. Gods aren't necessarily better than non gods, but a lot of them have very useful or even unique active and/or leader skills that are desirable by everyone in the game. But alas, not all gods are created equal, which is why it is suggested rerolling for only certain gods.

With the addition of 5.0, there are two new sets of Gods: Greek, and Egyptian.
Egyptian Gods are literal game changers and absolutely in the top 3 pulls you could possibly make, however all Gods have separate applications.

Egyptian Pantheon (the ones worth keeping)
  • Isis - This is probably the #1 roll you could ever make starting out as a new player. If you get Isis, keep that poo poo, laugh your way to endgame. Isis' gimmick is that if you attack with 3 different colors in the same turn, you gain a 3x multiplier to attack with all of your combos.
  • Horus - Horus is hardmode Isis. Same deal, but you need to attack with 4 different colors simultaneously and you gain a 4x multiplier instead. Active skill is also better than Isis'. More or less useless for Tri-Color dungeons, but this is not relevant to you as a new player. Accept this god if you want more of a challenge in your stompfest.

These two gods completely change the way you would normally play the game, as they rely on attacking with as many colors as you can at once instead of just matching your own relevant color and whatever else. For these, you would generally build "rainbow" teams, AKA teams with one of every element. You'll also want to remember to make friends with people who have the same god as you in these cases for stacking bonuses (multiplicative, so Double Isis is 9x, Double Horus is 16x, Horus/Isis is 12x), although if you are using Horus you can befriend Isis for a slightly easier time of things.
Keep in mind that while Horus is absolutely stronger than Isis, Isis has a fair bit more utility with the fact she is easier to use and can be run in Tri-Color dungeons, which are pretty good things to be able to do (but a good enough team will sweep Tri-Color dungeons without you having an Isis regardless, so don't sweat the fine details here too much). If you're on android or have a japanese itunes account, check out this app for practicing with Horus.

  • Bastet - Still very solid. If you hit 4 combos or more in a turn, your attack multiplier is raised to 2.5x. Active ability turns every attack into a multi-target attack. Does not rely on multiple colors like the two above.

Ra and Anubis are very niche and gimmicky use gods, it is not recommended to start out with them at all because they are basically impossible to utilize correctly. Also, if you get any of the above 3 Gods, don't bother evolving any of the Starter Dragons you get. You won't need to.

Greek Pantheon (every one is great)
Nearly every Greek God is an absolutely fantastic starter, so if you get one of these you're probably set.

  • Persephone/Apollo - Dark/Light equivalents to each other. At base, they add 1.5x ATK/RCV to monsters of their respective element. When evolved, they add 1.5x to every stat to monsters of their element. Collect a bunch of monsters that share their element, and make some friends with people who have the same god for double the bonus.
  • Ares/Artemis/Hermes - Fire/Wood/Water triangle. Their base forms are 2x ATK to mobs of their element, when evolved that becomes 2x ATK/HP. Befriend people with the same god or their Nordic counterparts (Freyr/Freyja/Idunn&Idunna respectively).

These 5 gods all have a very powerful active ability on top of their leader abilities: When activated, all Heart orbs and Weakness orbs (EG. Ares will turn water orbs into fire, Apollo will turn dark orbs into light, etc) are changed into orbs of their primary attribute. This will make running dungeons significantly easier on you.

  • Hades - He's not as good as the first 5 above, but he's not bad by any means. His active chunks out a percentage of one enemy's HP (15% base, 30% when evolved). His leader ability makes you take less damage from Dark element attacks, so you'll have an easier time with certain event dungeons later on. Go ahead and stick with him if you're tired of rerolling for something better. Buddy up with something that powers up Dark types.

Roman Pantheon (couple of highlights but otherwise average)
Basically half of the Roman Gods are something you stick with if you're tired of rerolling for better Gods. They have their uses, but don't remain useful for your entire play period.

  • Neptune - One of the two top pulls from this group. Neptune's active ability is very powerful poison attack. At base form, the poison is only 2x his ATK, but after he evolves it becomes 5x. His leader ability is Water damage reduction, and when evolved further you can either add Light or Dark resist to that as well. There are still better Gods to start with, but Neptune won't do you any wrong and you will use him for most of your playtime. Buddy up with anyone really, his active is the main benefit.
  • Venus - The other top pull from these. Venus' active ability is what's important, at base form it's 5 seconds of free orb movement/placement. Once evolved, this changes to 10 whole seconds. If you can't clear an entire board in 10 seconds of free placement, well, you should probably reroll. Her leader ability is Light damage resist, which can expand to include Dark at one of her final evolution stages. Goes well with Apollo, or you can build a rainbow team and buddy up with some Egyptian gods instead.

Neither of these Gods demands a very specific kind of team makeup, but Venus' active ability means utilizing Egyptian God partners will be fantastically easy. Keep in mind that both Neptune and Venus transition very well from Leaders to regular Team Members once you've acquired some better leaders. The next two are Gods that aren't great starters but if you're sick of rerolling, they're serviceable.

  • Ceres - Ceres is nothing particularly special, but she has long-term application. Ceres is basically a healer unit, her RCV is quite high. Active ability is a long-charge skill that completely heals you. Her passive is Wood resist, which eventually expands to include Light or Dark. When fully evolved, her stats are all above average and distributed well. Partner with Gods that increase Wood abilities, focus on a wood type team.
  • Minerva - Minerva also isn't anything special. She's very attack oriented, with high offensive stats and active abilities that do straight damage. In her first 2 forms, it's a long-charge nuke that does 15x her attack to one target. In her final forms, this changes to an ability that takes a third of the time to charge but only deals 10x damage. Her leader ability is Fire resist, with Light or Dark added on in the final forms. Partner with Gods that increase Fire abilities, focus on a fire type team.

    Japanese Pantheon (Free of restraints)
Three of the Japanese Gods are really good, the other two are complete garbage you shouldn't really bother with unless necessary.

  • Amaterasu PROBABLY NOT A GOOD STARTER ROLL IF YOU ARE LEGITIMATELY NEW! WILL BE WEEKS BEFORE SHE CAN CARRY YOU! - Amaterasu is the ultimate healer... when evolved. Her active ability is a long-charge full heal, but more importantly, her leader ability is a passive Auto-Heal that heals you whenever any orbs are matched. In her base form, this heal is only equivalent to her straight RCV stat. When evolved, it becomes 5x that stat, which is a higher multiplier than any other autohealer in the game. You should probably hang on to this one if you roll her, but just be ready for a rough start as she's only marginally better than an evolved slime in her base form. Autohealers are generally team independent, and her attack value isn't high enough to bother focusing on anyway.
  • Yomi - The dark equivalent to Venus, except slightly different. Yomi is more offensively oriented, with higher ATK in general. Her active ability in both forms is the 10 second free placement that evolved Venus acquires. Her leader ability is that you have a longer timer to move orbs with, and this extends when she evolves. Goes extremely well with a rainbow team and Egyptian god buddy, but also works with a dark team so feel free to buddy up with Persephones or Vampire Lords/Archlords and run her that way.
  • Viper Orochi - A good, but depressing pull. Orochi is one of the best "buddy" Gods, as his leader ability is that you cannot be killed by any single attack so long as you are above 50% HP. Generally this means you would not level him however, as that makes it harder to utilize the leader ability when he has more HP. Not leveling him means you're going to have an even harder time, so you're better off just leveling him and if you happen to get a second, leaving that one unleveled. His active ability is one of the strongest in the game, as it delays enemy attack turns by 5 (does not stack with itself or Menace). It's your call whether you actually level him up or not, just keep in mind people prefer these to be unleveled. Team independent, if you decide to run him as your leader, buddy up with evolved Auto-Healers (Sirens, Archangels, Alraunes, Amaterasu Ohkami)

These are the top 3 Japanese Gods. All of them are good. However, do keep in mind that Amaterasu is basically playing handicap mode until you get the EXP and Materials to evolve her, which may be too great a task for a new player to undertake if you started out with the base form instead of the evolved form. Kagutsuchi and Susano are garbage starters, don't even bother.

Indian Pantheon (three out of five isn't bad, right?)
The Fire/Water/Wood trio are fantastic, the Light/Dark are consolation prizes.

  • Shiva - Fire God. Extremely powerful, with high HP and ATK even unevolved. His active is super fantastic, it is a 1-turn defense nullification, which will last for as long as you can continue to wipe out waves in single turns. His passive is 1.5x to ATK/RCV unevolved, 1.5x to all stats when evolved. One of the top pulls, will last you for your entire career. Build a fire team, buddy up with other Shivas, or Ares. Be wary that if you want to evolve Shiva, stock up on some feeding materials as once evolved he needs roughly another 40 levels to regain the lost stats.
  • Lakshmi - Water God. Her active ability is an attack against a single enemy, 50% of the damage dealt is then restored as HP. Her passives are identical to Shiva's, except for water. Same deal for team building/buddying, focus on things that power up water types.
  • Parvati - Wood God. Her active ability is an orb change (Water -> Heal) and thus makes her extremely useful. Her passives are identical to the former 2, just for Wood. Again, partner up with gods/monsters that power up wood types and build your team around it.

These three gods are easily some of the best possible pulls and will never stop being useful until you actively score different/better Gods by spending stones. The following one isn't awful, but is only worth keeping if you don't wish to continue rerolling.

  • Vritra - Dark God. Active ability is a nuke based on your remaining HP. If you have Full-51%HP, this nuke deals 10k damage. If you have 50%-11%HP, it deals 20k. If you have <=10%HP, it deals 100k damage. Leader ability is a 1.5x modifier to Dragon/God ATK, 2x when evolved once, and upon final evolution becomes 2x ATK/RCV to Dragons only. Team composition will involve your Starter Dragon and the 2 more you will receive from exchanging rank 20 gifts with other Goons/friends. Buddy up with Isis-users (as long as you didn't pull 2 dark starters with your gift rolls) and other Vritras/Indras. Pick up some Orochi friends along the way, as they will turn Vritra into a good sub once you have an autohealer.
  • Indra - Light God. Active ability is a 3-turn 75% damage negation. Leader ability is 1.5x HP to Dragons/Gods, 2x when evolved once, and in the final form is 2x HP/ATK for Dragons only. Team comp is exactly the same as Indra, except your priority for buddy leaders shifts to Isis, Vritras and Ancient Dragon Knights early on. Fully evolved Indras are also acceptable buddy leaders.

Indra and Vritra are difficult to start out with because they require focus on Starter Dragons, which are normally not something you focus on entirely. Obtaining a Mystic Stone Knight and a Mystic Dark Knight and evolving them should be a high priority if you rolled either of these.

Nordic Pantheon (Vikings and Greeks 4eva)
Almost all of the Nordic Gods function identically, the exception being the two Odin variants. These used to be really subpar, but with the advent of 5.0 Norse Gods are now super viable.

  • Freyr - Fire.
  • Freyja - Wood.
  • Idunn & Idunna - Water.
  • Thor - Light.
  • Loki - Dark.

All of these gods do the exact same things for their relevant elements, which is that they have an active which provides a 1.5x ATK modifier for 1 turn to their element. Their leader abilities are also the same, where the base form grants 1.5x ATK/RCV to monsters of their element, their evolved forms grant 2x to ATK/RCV. Build mono-type teams based on thier color, and buddy up with the relevant (evolved) greek/indian counterparts for HP boosts.

Note that starter dragons, when fully evolved, can achieve the same leader effects, so if you don't start with a decent god you can evolve them later on and still have something that can keep up with the harder stuff.

  • Green Odin - Wood God. Extremely useful, his active is a 20x ATK single-target nuke that is dealt as Light damage. His leader ability is the real prize though, which is an 80% reduction in damage if you are hit while at full HP. Not only will this service you for the entire game, but many other people will want to be your friend as well. He is relatively team independent, especially since you want to partner up with Auto-Healers. One of the best pulls in the game.
  • Blue Odin - Water God. His active ability is similar to GrOdin's, but it's a 50x ATK Dark-element nuke instead. His leader ability is a 2.5x ATK modifier to God Types, and then Water Element once evolved. This is a very massive singular boost for an entire element of monsters, and he is an intensely strong unit by himself. Evolve him as quickly as possible. Build a mono-water team and seek out Hermes or other Blue Odin users for your buddy leaders.

Judaic Pantheon (It's all downhill from here)
There is only really one here worth mentioning as a starter, however I will include one extra.

  • Archangel Lucifer - Dark/Light God. Don't confuse this for the Dark/Dark Demon version, Angel Lucifer is very special. All of the Archangels have leader abilities that are 2xHP/RCV to their respective primary element, but that's only half of the fun. Not only do Dark teams have some of the highest potential HP in the game with Archangel Lucifer, his active is a 300,000 Damage Nuke to any one target. This is an instant boss killer in most parts of the game. The penalty of this ability is that it reduces your current HP to 1, and cannot be used consecutively as long as you only have 1 HP. Build a mono-dark team, and the objective is to find other Archangel Lucifer (or Persephone if you're feeling a little on the weaker side with normal attacks) buddies and just roll through everything by sitting on your rear end and instantly killing the boss when the time comes.

  • Baal - Light/Dark Demon. Baal doesn't garner much mention, he is a permanent 2.5x attack boost so long as you have 70% of your HP or more. His active ability is a counter-attack that lasts for five turns which deals 3x his ATK back at the enemies. Scroll up to the Egyptian Pantheon and follow the team advice listed under Bastet. He's not the most amazing, but certainly not terribly awful in any respect.

    Everything Else
This is the rest of the crap that doesn't belong to a specific pantheon and all of them are final choices you settle with when you are sick of rerolling.

  • Valkyrie HARD START- Light Healer. Valkyrie isn't a God but still ends up in this list because it still happens to be one of the better pulls in the game. Her active is an orb change (Heart -> Light), her leader ability is a 2x ATK boost to Healer-type monsters at base form, 2.5x when evolved. She is farmable, but it is the endgamest of endgame kind of stuff so don't count on just picking one of these up outside of Gacha. Your team needs to be comprised of Healers, which include: Carbuncles, Naga/Echidna, Mermaid/Siren, Succubus/Lilith, Cupid/Archangel, Dryad/Alraune, other Valkyries, and Kyoku (Kyoku is gacha-only). Early on, you'll want to just focus on building a mono-light team and befriending Apollo-users (while befriending Valkyries along the way), until you get your hand on some healer girls (don't use carbuncles). Once you have another couple of Healer girls, then focus on friending and running with other Valkyries.

Valkyrie is hard because you need to farm up the healer girls, which takes a lot of time and effort to do so. There is also the matter of health, as a Healer-based team has very low max HP naturally so you wont be able to use this team in later dungeons. She will easily breeze you through much of your early-midgame and farming escapades though, so she's worth hanging on to.

  • Siegfried/Kaiser Siegfried - Water Attacker. Also isn't a God, but is a serviceable "I'm tired of rerolling" starter. His active is an orb change (Heart -> Water), and his leader ability is a 2.5x ATK boost to Physical-type monsters. Physical types include the Ogre, Golem, and Titan families (also Kotaro but he is gacha only). Early on, focus on mono-water teams and befriend Hermes/Lakshmi users and any and all Berserk/Siegfried users you can find (they're rare). Golems aren't easily farmable until midgame, but they are potential boss drops.

Siegfried and his Wood counterpart have their uses, just realize that they are limited in scope to you. Do not start with his base form (Berserk), as it will take far too long for you to be able to farm the evolution mats without some serious assistance.

  • Cu Chulainn/Great Hero Cu Chulainn - Wood Technic. The Wood counterpart to Siegfried above. He functions identically (active is a heart -> wood orb change) to Siegfied with his passive, except that it applies to Technique-type monsters and is for HP instead of ATK. Technique-type monsters include Slimes, Fighters, Mystic Knights, Vampires, and Chiyome (gacha only). This selection pool makes him slightly easier to build a team with. Early on, focus on mono-wood teams and befriend Artemis/Parvati users and Fenrir Kight Kamuis or other Highlanders/Cu Chulainns you may spot. Chulainn has an easier time building a team because of Mystic Knights, which can then transition into being built into their own teams later.

For the same reasons as Siegfried, you do not want to start with Cu Chulainn's base form (Highlander). Both Berserk and Highlander are technically farmable (for additional subs), but they come from dungeons that you will see probably once every 3 or so months (and are extremely difficult).

  • Ancient Dragon Knight - Wood Dragon. I know it says "Knight" in the name but his classification is of Dragon. His active is an orb change (Fire -> Wood), his leader ability is a 2.5x ATK boost to Dragon type monsters. If you scroll up to Vritra's description in the Indian section, early ADK teams can be run the same (using starters dragons and running with Isis users). However, thanks to his typing, you can also befriend other ADKs while running a team of starter dragons. Alternatively, due to his orb change, he fits right at home on a mono-wood team, so you can build like that and befriend Artemis/Parvati/Freyja users. You will always want to friend any ADK you meet though.

ADK is absolutely farmable, and is why he is left in this section for things to run when you're tired of rerolling. He's still good, but you're really better off with something that can't be farmed normally.

That covers all of the relevant starter pulls and what you should be doing with them. Good luck!

For those who want something different, something more out of their P A Z U D O R A experience, you could join the handful of us on the japanese servers!

The Goons Friends Code List (Switch to the JP tab!!)

Luidas, use this to find people with monsters you need to bro up with.

Pros:
  • Hella events, all of the time.
  • Always has the latest content.
  • Tons of extra collaboration/promotional monsters, several of which are used to skill up certain Gods that you would otherwise have to spend a million dollars on.
  • Free stones are passed out like candy.
  • Far more pubbies who will probably have the gods you need to recruit

Cons:
  • Hella events, all of the time. Enjoy never seeing jewel dragons except for once a week.
  • Enjoy synchronizing your clock to Japan's for said events.
  • It's in japanese, you won't be reading poo poo unless you're fluent.
  • If you can't read japanese, you will have a permanent pair of tabs open for the chinese wiki and google translate.
  • Requires extra steps to get the game downloaded/running.
  • If you're on iOS, you will need to purchase japanese itunebux for magic stones. (Some people on Android also have problems with the IAP, but this varies per user)

One of the major benefits of playing in Japanese is the sheer number of occuring events, much of the time with collaboration monsters, which are almost all made by design to be either really useful in some form or as really easily farmed skill fodder for important monsters. Several of us play on the JP servers, so if you have any questions feel free to post about it or ask in the IRC (#pad @ synirc.net).

How to download and play:
Android: Download the current APK here and install. From there, to run the game your phone needs to be set to the Japanese timezone. You can either do this manually every time you want to launch, or set up a Tasker script for it. (Tasker seriously owns, buy it)
If you're rooted, see this:

Voideka posted:

If you have a rooted Android device and want to play the JP version of Puzzle and Dragons, there are a couple things you need to do. First you need to use a file explorer of some sort (I use Root Explorer Light but there are many options) to go to system/app. While there, locate the Superuser.apk file and rename it to Su.apk. This should not alter functionality at all. If your root application is Supersu, load that up and go to settings, and check the box labeled "Enable Superuser" to temporarily disable root. If you have a different root app like Superuser that does not have a built in temp unroot, what you need to do is hide the su.bin file located in system/xbin, by moving it to another folder. Applications such as OTA RootKeeper and Hide My Root have this functionality, however I have not used them myself.

iOS: You need to set up a Japanese account and download from here. Nothing else needed.

The front page of the Chinese Wiki has all of the upcoming/current special dungeons, and guides for all of the dungeons and monsters in the game up to this point.

BACKING UP YOUR DATA (see bottom of first post on how to do this)
In the event you neglect to do this, there is a Japanese recovery form here. Do your best with google translate.

BACKING UP IS GOOD BUT NOT ENTIRELY NECESSARY NOW, HOWEVER SETTING UP AN ACCOUNT IS SUPER IMPORTANT
Select the option under DATA INSTALL, this is how you tie your game data to an account. On iOS it's a password, on Android you sync it to a gmail account tied to your phone.

VER 5.1

Changes include:
  • Nordic Pantheon adopting dual types (eg. Loki will now be God/Demon, Freyja God/Healer, etc)

  • Monday Dungeon, which is Pengdra-centric. Includes new Dark and Light type Pengdra.
  • Blue Odin buff. His passive is now 2.5x to God AND Water.
  • Account systems for iOS (password) and Android (gmail sync)

You made some nice changes to the OP. I look forward to the first available Egyptian Godfest sucking away my precious stones. Wouldn't mind some of the new greeks either.

How exactly did Thor change in 5.0? Any way I can put my Thor legion to good use?

I was personally kind of hoping to see Two Heroes before 5.0 dropped, but I can't really complain. I'll happily take the update.

None of the Nordic Gods themselves change in 5.0 (though they get dual types and busty evos in 5.1), but the introduction of Greek Gods has made them significantly more valuable on the whole. Thor is a much more difficult starter than Apollo however, and Light teams remain the hardest to build for, which is why Thor is left in mid-tier while the rest of the Nordic Pantheon is at the top.

Also I saved five rolls from all the free stones + dungeon clearing, I'm ready for an egyptian god more golems.

Also I did it - I went a full week from last thursdays dragon plants without ever getting any loving colored dragons. Thank you jewel dragons, eat a dick.

I have a Freyja as well on US, it's a shame I don't play much there anymore.

So what does a sweet Horus/Isus team look like in 5.0? What should people be aiming for with that?

Yarr.

As far as I can tell, 5.0 doesn't change my immediate plan of evolving my Parvati (which will happen some Wednesday in the future when Hall of Masks decides to actually drop a Mystic Mask after a dozen runs).

For those of us in the "midgame", what should we shoot for in the new version? Most of my existing monsters are now fully evolved but a but underleveled.

So 3x ATK, 3x HP, and 1.5x RCV when using indian gods with greek?

Depends on your team[s]. What kind of monsters do you have? Dark and Fire teams have a new priority with Vampire Archlord/Gigantes, not much else has changed for midgame otherwise except for Demons now having a third stage.

Super Technical Dungeons are unlocked after clearing the main selection of Technical Dungeons. The second one introduced in 5.0 includes a chance to straight up drop Emerald Pengdra.

What are the additional effects that apply to Super Technical Dungeons? Do they cap your maximum HP or something?

Varies per dungeon. Vampire Lord's super tech disables your leader abilities, Ceres' super tech will only allow you bring Wood-primary element monsters on your team but has no actual Wood Orbs on the board normally.

Oh poo poo, that's great. Leveling my Freyja! With my Shiva I now have the option of red or green teams too, awesome.

I really hope I get an egyptian god from rolls, but if not, I'll have egyptian friend buddies.

I just want to put together a team that can take out two heroes, gotta get that cu and sieg.

It feels me to like Lakshmi gets hit hardest of the existing Indian gods, what with the new greek/nordic combinations. Shiva and Parvati make pretty good subs. Setting defense to 0 is probably still something you are going to want to do on a lot of fire teams, and an orb change to heart god is still something you are probably going to want to have on a green team. Lakshmi's skill though, probably not. She does have nice recovery though.

A Hermes could definitely tempt me to make a water team.

Ouch. Those sound pretty harsh. (Ceres' tech especially.)

Heh, it's the other way around for me - now I have a reason to level up my Freyr in addition to my Parvati.

Potential Horus/Isis Team planning time.

Here's an idea I have going through my head:

Horus/Isis Lead
Green Odin
Green/White Ceres
Red/Black Minerva
Viper Orochi

Pretty much, the team would get solid all around stats from being loaded with Gods. Good amount of HP to take a hit. High RCV from Ceres. 5 Turn delay from Orochi. A hopeful super fast nuke from Minerva. And all 5 colors are covered.

Another idea I was throwing around:

Parvati Lead
Green Odin
Green/White Ceres
Green/Black Ceres
ADK
Isis friend

With this squad, you get a 4.5x attack/1.5x HP/1.5x RCV. You can swap the off color of red to a useful color (green). And matching three this way is super easy -- there've been a TON of times where my Parvati team would match a ton of green, then 3 black and three yellow.

For additional fun, you could swap out Horus for Isis, then the ADK for something blue, like a Viper Orochi. Or, if you're feeling particularly froggy, dual evolve a Tiamat or Leviathan to be Blue/Green. Then everything but the god gets your Parvati boost!

I'm seeing a LOT of potential for a mix of current and egyptian god teams when it comes to adding in survivability and such. I'm really looking forward to 5.0!

Some of the more non-thousand-bux Isis/Horus teams include either a Green Shining Divinegon or a Shining Wood Fafnir. Green/Light dual elements are really valuable since it means you can slot in crap like Hera freely without any worrying about team space.

It's kind of a mess right now. The top tier are StE, ADK, three 5* resist dragons (need to evolve dark, don't have a light at all), 5* Parvati and Lakshmi, Amaterasu Ohkami (needs to be leveled/fed +eggs), Vritra, Lilith, and Viper Orochi. Also the last two Skydragons and a dark Mechdragon, which I rarely use due to team cost.

I can build decent enough mono-color teams, but most of them end up being filled out with a Chimera.

You have quite a number of cool gods there. What rank are you and how far into the main dungeons are you? You should be grinding up your team cost capacity and probably focus on Parvati and/or Lakshmi (my vote goes towards Lakshmi)
