I gather not, from the searching I've been doing on and off over the past few days. If I have MP3's stored on USB flash drives, it would be nice to have some kind of portable "iPod like" player with headphones that could accept a flash drive and play MP3 files stored on it. This is the closest thing I could find to what I'm describing, except, it's discontinued, and it apparently only will work with JumpGear Sport drives, which aren't available any more. Unless someone knows something I'm missing. :p

I remember reading that some builds of Rockbox have USB host support. You could also try one of those tiny microSD card readers that's the same size as a flash drive and one of the MP3 players that supports SD cards. I think with a jailbroken Ipod touch you can use the camera connection kit to mount a flash drive as if it was part of the internal filesystem. There's also the option of an Android phone, I knew someone that plugged a flash drive into theirs for external storage.

I can't ever recall seeing a portable MP3 player that had a USB port for expandable storage, but I've seen dozens of examples of portable MP3 players that use SD cards for storage. Unless you're specifically trying to use USB drives for some reason that I can't think of, you'll be better off buying a MP3 player that uses Micro SD cards ($30) and a 64GB card ($50) the card will almost certainly come with a USB<->SD reader so you can plug it in via USB to your laptop.

The reason for USB was I already have a bunch of USB flash drives (including some 64 gig ones) filled with files. :p Where did you find a player that accepts 64 gig micro SD cards? Most of the ones I can find only accept 32 gig cards. Maldoror fucked around with this message at Mar 11, 2013 around 15:25 |

I went ahead and bought a SanDisk Clip+ mp3 player and a 64 gig micro SDXC card. Officially the player only supports 32 gig SDHC, but people are saying that if you format the SDXC card to Fat32 with Fat32Format, it will work fine in the Clip+ player.
