If there's anybody out there who still has first-run, broadcast recordings of old Star Trek episodes sitting around on VHS tape - and I know there has to be a few of you - I'm looking for recordings of the pilot episodes of The Next Generation ("Encounter at Farpoint" from October 1987), Deep Space Nine ("Emissary" from January 1993), or Voyager ("Caretaker", from January 1995) for another website that I contribute to. Additionally, if anyone has any workprint copies of any Trek episode - these are preliminary cuts of episodes, usually with unfinished effects and sometimes added/changed scenes - I'm also very interested in what you may have. An example of a workprint I recently snagged can be seen here: http://trekcore.com/blog/2013/03/ex...ore-are-coming/ Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to help. I don't have anything, but I wish you good luck. That recently uncovered stuff was pretty awesome and I'd like to see more of it.

Oh shi- this isn't the star trek thread. I knew I should have headed starboard at Tau Ceti.

My parents actually might but I don't know what they did with all their VHS tapes or how to explain how I need them. And they live 2000 miles away. I think we just recorded episodes over the top of each other on the same tape when it came to Voyager though. Man, it's been a really long time.

I have VHS copies of every TNG episode. Are you saying there is something different about the broadcast versions? The ones I have are the official versions, not recorded from TV.

No, he's talking about versions that were used in the post-production process, before the final edit was set to print and sent to the syndicated affiliates for broadcast.

Yeah, I'll take a workprint from any episode of any series, but I'm only looking for VHS recordings of the original airings of the pilot - to see if anything was lost between the original airing and final home media release. For example, it's rumored that in the original airing of "Farpoint", Gates McFadden (Dr. Crusher) was credited as 'Cheryl G. McFadden', her birth name, but no one's been able to prove it either way.

I know, for a fact, that my uncle recorded the original airing of Farpoint. Odds are extremely high that its been lost in a move or is so deep in storage that it's effectively gone. I'll make a phone call, but there's probably a better chance of winning the Powerball than finding that tape. And if this had been five months ago...I actually held in my hands tapes of Emissary and Caretaker, from their original airings. I promptly threw them into a dumpster with all the other VHS tapes I used to own, saying "nothing in there worth saving. Can't watch anything anyhow." Oops. I assumed something like that would have been recorded enough that there wasn't any use in hanging on to them. Now that my memory's going, one of those first run DS9's (I think the episode was Tosk) had a local engineering problem or signal intrusion that I can only describe as clip art of a smiling man and a hot dog. Kinda wish I'd saved them now.

All I got is old VHS tape with the last 4 TNG episodes plus commercials from the original airings. Would be happy to contribute if you want these at all.

Oh poo poo my Dad had every episode on VHS and I know he recorded them when they first aired. I will have to ask if they still have the tapes, because I know he has them on DVD now.

I definitely have Emissary and Caretaker, I saved the tapes during my VHS purge a couple of years ago. Should still be at my parents' house. I'll be there to look within a week or two.

I recall telling you about it a while back, but my brother couldn't find it in the obvious place I thought it'd be. So it's gonna have to wait until summer when I get a chance to get back up to New York to shift through the stacks of taped poo poo I made as a kid by hand. I also still have the original broadcast of "What You Leave Behind" if you're still looking for that. EDIT: I taped so much poo poo as a kid... yikes.

If that doesn't work, you should get in touch with Reed Farrington via Film Junk. He really likes Star Trek. He also really likes taping things off of TV and keeping them forever.
