I couldn't decide on what thread to post this in so I figured I'd make my first box thread.

As hinted at in the "What gun do you want this instant?" thread, I have obtained a Swiss Schuetzen rifle. This particular one was made in 1874 then reworked to handle standard Swiss GP11 ammo some time later. It came with the original scabbard and wood wrapped cleaning rod and I'm pretty sure it's correct since the guy I bought it from was the one who had it imported from Switzerland to begin with. Other than a couple dings in the stock it's in perfect condition. The sights are simply very iron sights and the actual trigger is the literal definition of hair trigger.

Anyways, I'm stoked about it especially for the price I paid and I'm going to try to confirm what I was told and get more details from the swissrifles forum dudes who seem to know everything possible. The guy I bought it from is a milsurp collector and while I was there I also scored a working Hammerli K31 BB trainer kit for a solid price so it's been an awesome day for Swiss collecting.

On to the pictures. I'm not particularly pleased with how some of them came out but the close-ups are pretty good. It does look better in person though.

Overview with the scabbard and cleaning rod:

Receiver:

Receiver and barrel (the 2nd one shows a neat pass-through hole in the back of the receiver so you can clean the barrel from either direction without dis-assembly):

It's a replacement bolt that has it's own mini-barrel that clamps into the receiver and is essentially a 6 shot spring powered air rifle that shoots BBs. Here's some pictures stolen from Guisan of swissrifles fame. I didn't bring enough cash so I'm mailing him a check tomorrow and he'll send it to me later this week. We just were talking about how Swiss rifles were great and he mentioned that he had 2 of those trainers then offered one to me for an irresistible price considering how hard they are to find.

I look at that rifle and the word that comes to mind is "elegant". Take that for whatever it is worth.

Needs a fine mahogany display case.

I know what you want. I know what you need.

Man, I should have put something about K31 air rifles in the title considering how much attention the little guy is getting.

Yeah, to be honest when you mentioned the BB trainer I skipped the rest of the post and scrolled down and got sad when you completely glossed over it. Please update this thread when it comes in.

A PMag deserves to be in it since they're what helped finance this endeavor.

I think I'll post a box thread when I get the K31 air rifle part in since it seems pretty popular.

I have a rifle and a frying pan and I know how to use them

If that airgun thingie has a rifles barrel, I'd bet you a dollar or two it was designed with lead round ball in mind, not steel BB shot.

Very cool.

Yup, it calls for 4.4 mm (.177in) lead pellets but most people just use BBs because they're easier to find for the typically very low volume of shooting. I already have some lead pellets from another gun so I'm already set.
