HBO Films is doing a Who-Ha Dunnit on Phil Spector (played by Al Pacino) and his lawyer linda kenney baden (Helen Mirren).

Also directed by David Mamet who did that one movie with the "gently caress you coffee's for closers" speech and little else of note if you ask everyone I know.

Shame they are playing up the court drama instead because the Lana Clarkson aspect was just so and reminiscent of one of my favorite movies Sunset Boulevard http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...40&pagenumber=1

Still hopefully there's enough material in the courtroom stuff for an interesting HBO movie of the month. At the very least you get to watch Pacino ham it up Scarface style once more. And maybe you Brit folks still reeling from the Jimmy Saville thing might find some interesting parallels. Or just fancy some Helen Mirren

Your argument is invalid.

You Don't Know Jack convinced me that Pacino should play every old guy having something to do with death in a HBO movie. Looking forward to this even though I know very little about Spector beyond his nutty hair and that he made Deus Ex.

Wrong Spector. Warren Spector made Deus Ex. Phil Spector is responsible for the Wall of Sound music production technique. And being a creepy scumbag.

I was scratching my head over that one. I thought he meant Phil Spector made up so many conspiracy theories regarding the murder it sounded like Deus Ex

We've met before haven't we?

I know. It was a bad joke.

But hey, Al Pacino and Helen Mirren, that's a pretty good start for a cast.

Oddly enough both of those guys in the pictures were tried for murder.

Playing the solid gold hits and moving my liquid lips...

Short of it: Jeffrey Tambor & Al Pachino - great as usual, and Pachino really did seem to become Spector on screen with his mannerisms and accent. I loved the part where she asked the young guy in the beginning if he knew what an insert was or a 45 just to prove how much Spector had fallen into irrelevance.

But the script overall felt weak, and after I was left asking myself "What was the point of this?" Yeah...nice to hear "Be My Baby" but it seemed to just meander about with not much to say that hasn't already been said by others - if you haven't watched "Phil Spector: The Agony and The Ecstasy," do that after seeing this to get a better idea of who he was and the trial itself.
