http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzFbnbEQDJE Now with both Texas Hold'em and Omaha rules! The followup to Telltale's second poker game,(and the first one anyone's ever cared about- don't pretend you played Telltale Texas Hold-Em) Poker Night at the Inventory, is set to bring together another gathering of unexpected characters. A heavily dialogue-focused game, Poker Night at the Inventory was a serviceable singleplayer poker title, but the real shining star was the weird cast's interactions with one another as the poker game plays out. The first Poker Night features the most dialogue of any Telltale title so far(and being adventure games primarily, that's impressive) and the second one is sure to top even that. Plus, you can win items for Team Fortress 2- but more on that later. While the first game brought together Max of 'Sam and Max', the Heavy of 'Team Fortress 2', Tycho of 'Penny Arcade' and Strongbad of 'Homestar Runner', none of these characters are returning for the sequel. Yeah, it's a shame, but believe me- the new roster is pretty interesting, too. So let's meet the new players: ![]() ![]() Sam from 'Sam & Max' Since the first game featured Sam's psychotic, lagomorphic sidekick, Max, it only makes sense for Telltale to bring Sam into the mix this time around. Though he's not as quite unpredictable and wacky as Max(though he is a bit psychotic himself, let's be honest here), Sam's likely to play the morally-dubious straight man to most of the other characters. ![]() Claptrap from Borderlands 2 Though everyone's guess for this franchise's inclusion was Handsome Jack, Claptrap seems to have weaseled his way into the poker game. A bit screechy and strange, Claptrap's primarily known from both Borderlands 1 and 2 for being a sort of early-game guide... and also for being kind of annoying. Having a plethora of other characters to bounce off of might help him out though, especially since Telltale is likely to be handling his writing here- not Gearbox- which could make a big difference to the character's obnoxious behavior. Hell, he might even end up being kind of endearing. Who knows! ![]() Slightly surprisingly, Brock Samson from Venture Brothers An unstoppable killing machine, Brock's inclusion isn't as much of a surprise as it might have been a year or two ago- Adult Swim has shown a lot of interest in video games lately, mainly via Team Fortress 2(where you can get not only Brock's hair for the Heavy, but also a full Monarch henchman outfit for the Scout). If there's anyone in this game who's played a lot of poker, it's Brock Samson, so he's probably going to be the toughest one to beat this time around. ![]() And then the big surprise, Ash from the Evil Dead trilogy Though he's from a movie franchise, Ash is certainly no stranger to videogames, having been in several of his own, and his iconic outfit appearing as a DLC outfit last year for Lollipop Chainsaw. Considering Ash's one-liner styled wit and penchant for violence, he's going to fit in pretty well with everyone else involved. And maybe he can finally reclaim some of those lines Duke Nukem ripped off from him so long ago. Unfortunately, he's not being voiced by Bruce Campbell. Which is a drat shame. And, in a non-playing role(as the dealer and announcer): ![]() Glados from Portal Though she's not in on playing the poker game herself, Glados seems to be ever-present, hovering over the table, watching as everyone plays. Until we see a full trailer, it's not too clear what her role is- but she's certainly involved in the game. If I had to guess, Glados's presence is mostly to solve an issue the original game had, where once you were down to a 1 on 1 situation with the final player, there was no one around for them to talk to and provide that entertainment, other than the player. Having Glados be around should potentially fix that. Also, you can win stuff! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccudvO8SDzw ![]() In addition to the TF2 items that PC players can win, Borderlands 2 items (skins and weapons) will also be able to be won in the 360, PS3, and PC versions. On the 360 version, players can also win avatar items, and on the PS3 version players can win additional premium themes. Preorder it on Steam for a free copy of Poker Night 1! Giftable if you already own the game, of course. And PN2 is only $5! The game's release date is Here's some more screenshots:

No word from Bruce Campbell yet...but then again he's probably under NDA until after PAX East. The first game has been on my "To Buy" list ever since it came out; I love the concept and the crossover idea. It's something that makes Smash Bros and PS All-Stars so special, and its great to the idea expanded upon.

The one issue I had with the original PNatI was that it ran atrociously on my machine for something that wasn't all that pretty. I look forward to seeing if this is any better.

Ditto. Even on lowest settings it churns on my machine. I'm terrible at poker, but I loved the asides. If the players are indeed what's been cobbled together, it'll be another one to play even though I'm crap.

Jesus christ, this is like Valve All-Stars Racing or Super Valve Bros Brawl, except instead of being about fighting or racing it's about... poker.

Even now, with my PC upgraded since the first game's release, it runs kind of poorly. The framerate occasonally dips and my graphics card is obviously having some trouble, especially during the intro sequence. I have no idea why- I'd guess it has something to do with the lighting, which seems unusually high-quality for Telltale and might be a resource hog? If anyone actually knows the reason, I'd love to hear it. I imagine that won't be a problem this time around, though, considering how much bigger Telltale is now and how much time they've had to work on this.

Mentioned on Telltale's twitter, a teaser site has gone up that's very likely tied to Poker Night 2. http://www.thekeyparty.com/ Probably a slow-drip teaser sort of thing, with them adding keys to the bowl from the characters involved leading up to the April 1st reveal- unless this is a lengthy, elaborate April Fools joke or something.

Count me as excited. The last game was totally worth the $5 even if you weren't that into poker. I hope the Venture Bros person is the monarch or 21.

http://thekeyparty.com/ First set of keys has shown up, they're Sam's(going off the Desoto logo keychain). Another each day leading up to the 1st, where presumably the game will be actually revealed. Or a fake game because April 1st, followed by the real announcement. Or something. Either way, definitely tying into this.

The Walking Dead erased my save three times. I wouldn't be too confident about this. I'm looking forward to Poker Night and all, but especially if this is on that "old engine" that Telltale has expressed interest in switching away from, performance is not going to be fantastic. EDIT: Oh and for the love of God do I hope that the Borderlands character is anyone but Claptrap. But it probably will be because he's the ~*mascot*~ of the franchise.

The first Poker Night was fun. I didn't play it for more than a few hours, but it was perfectly wholesome entertainment. I hope they can do away with the repeating lines this time.

The game just has an utterly excessive amount of dialogue. I played it some the other day and heard a new conversation I hadn't even seen people mention online before(though I'm sure they have). It's kind of one of the great things about it. Turning chatter up to max helps though.
