![]() Welcome to the Luigi's Mansion 2 thread; enter... IF YOU DARE??? Luigi's Mansion was the GameCube's Mario launch title that would show off the amazing hardware of the new system. In the game Luigi was given a letter and map stating that he won a new mansion! Mario catches wind and goes to check it out first... later when Luigi heads out he finds the mansion on a hill that looks NOTHING like what he was promised. He enters nervously to find Mario has gone missing; and the mansion is filled with spooky ghost! There he meets the enigmatic E. Gadd who gives him a poltergust vacuum and tasks him with playing ghost busters. The original game was unique in that it wasn't a platformer; and instead chose a more... survival horror direction to go with; for lack of a better term. Luigi would move room to room sucking up numerous ghosts and fighting with the dead that used to live in the mansion; each ghost having it's own personality and quirk. It was woefully short; but the game oozed charm and personality, things like Luigi being able to comment on the furniture and value of his new home to Luigi humming the games theme and depending on his HP his voice would crack and become more disjointed and finally; and perhaps most importantly, if you were to tap B Luigi would shriek out Mario's name in a hilarious voice. At the end of the game Luigi sealed King Boo back into a portrait and saved Mario who had been kidnapped. Using his money from his adventure Luigi then bought himself a proper mansion and lived happily there ever sense. ![]() The plot this time Professor E Gadd is back to calmly studying the ghosts he loves; and hey they're even helping him with his research! Things are surprisingly peaceful... except King Boo has somehow escaped his painted prison and has blown up the "Dark Moon" that was keeping the ghosts sane. E. Gadd barely makes it to call Luigi over for help; and tells the better brother that he's going to need to gather the shards of the dark moon to repair it... and they've scattered to 5 different haunted mansions. How surprising. ![]() Gameplay The game keeps the same premise of the past one; Luigi is thrown into a haunted mansion and is tasked with nabbing a colorful spectrum of spooks. Being on the 3DS though has caused the playstyle to be... different. In the game the ghosts can no longer just have a light shined on them and reeled in; instead you must charge up the strobe light of your flashlight and blast ghosts with it before you get the chance to defeat them. The ghosts like the first game have different abilities based on their coloring; but can now utilize the environment they're in; grabbing sunglasses off a table to block the light; using pots and pans as make-shift shields and swords and various other tools going so far as to even possess things such as giant spiders or suits of armor! The game is also broken up into a mission structure much like Mario 64 now. Your main hub is E. Gadd's shack; and from there you can pick a mansion; and then the mission you want to do. There is NO saving while you're on a mission so you have to do everything in one go. The missions can range from rescuing one of E. Gadd's Toad assistants, to finding a route around the current mansion and any changes made in one mission will change the next; so be mindful. (If you fire Toad off like a missile through a window; when you come back for another mission you may be able to climb through said window). You'll also come across places where doors should be or bridges are out; and you'll be tasked with finding a special light for your flashlight to expose invisible paths and reveal hidden goodies. One such example would be the Polter Pup; a white ghost dog that Luigi comes across early on that's hell bent on screwing with you. If you find golden bones the Pup will revive you once upon death; but more often or not the dog will steal key items and go hide within walls in which you'll need to use your light to hunt him down. ![]() Toads escort quests add a heavy puzzle element to the game as each Toad you save has his own set fear; of say water, plants, and of course ghosts, so if they go near any of these on their own they'll flee in terror and you'll have to hit em' with your flashlight to snap them out of it. In return they can help you open up new passages and as alluded to earlier; if you suck them up with your vacuum you can fire them off and send them flying. Don't worry if escort missions aren't your thing though as the game has much more then just that. ![]() Online Co-op The game has online Co-Op in the form of the hilariously named Scare-Scraper. In this mode you and up to 3 other rainbow colored Luigi's are set in a randomly generated floor for a mansion and have to work together to clear floors in a certain time limit and move on. The higher you go the harder the ghosts are and the stricter the time limit. If all of the luigi's fall in combat or the time runs out; they're done. There's unlockable perks to go with the mode and a difficulty slider where you can set how hard you want it to start off with or how many floors you want to do, even setting it to infinite. There are several new traps in this mode as well to put the focus on helping each other; while it's possible to split up into different parts of the floor there are now traps that can be sprung on you. Inspect a large pot hoping for health or a power up? Hope it doesn't flip over and trap you; which requires another player to hurry over and pull it off otherwise leaving you at the mercy of whatever is in the room! The game features a basic chat system where you can send pre-set messages to each other; though it's unknown if there's actual voice chat. I hope I didn't scare you off... because here's some spooky videos!! The story's intro Story mode's trailer Multiplayer How many blocks will it take and when is it coming out? 6745 blocks; and it'll be released on March 24th in NA and March 28th for EU/AUS Friend Codes! Literally all I did in the last game was just vacuum the dusty dirty house for hours while high as hell. I will play this if I can do that again.

It's really sort of strange that they gave Luigi and the other characters new voiced bits, but instead have they talk in the marbled dialogue like Banjo Kazooie. Hell Luigi clearly says "NO!" a few times in assorted ways which he never did before. And the facial animation moves like the characters are forming the words in the text as well.

Luigi's Mansion was criminally underrated and I've been thinking about buying a 3DS for a little while now (and need something besides Awakening to sell me on getting one), so I'll definitely keep an eye on this.

I'm pretty psyched for this. Luigi's mansion is the game that I got at launch that I always cursed for not being a proper Mario game, then a couple years later I played through it and realized that it really was pretty loving cool in its own merits. and that I shouldn't judge it for what it wasn't. I actually haven't kept up with this much, so when I pick it up, it'll be all sorts of surprises.

I'm almost shocked this is finally coming out. It was one of the first games advertised for the 3DS, 2 years and one design revision ago. Luigi, it's time

To be honest, I did not give a drat about this game until I heard about and saw the trailer for the co-op multiplayer. Now I'll probably download it as soon as it hits the eShop.

I enjoyed the original mostly because it gave Luigi both a starring role and in a completely different gameplay style that wasn't just "a Mario platformer but with Luigi instead." Didn't play it until about two years after the Gamecube's launch, and I must've played through it about three or four times trying to get the highest money count possible, as though it were a Wario game. I'll probably grab it near launch so I can give Fire Emblem: Awakening a break.

Here's a quick Scarescraper overview: -Supports online play, multi-cart local play and single-cart Download Play, and can also be played solo -Four game modes: Hunter (catch all the ghosts to advance between floors, includes boss battles), Rush (time attack), Polterpup (uncover all the hidden Polterpups to advance) and Surprise (randomly flips between each mode between floors) -Four floor settings (5/10/25/infinite) -Three difficulty settings (normal/hard/expert) -Cash/treasures can be used to buy power-ups and vacuum upgrades between floors -At the end of the game there's a stats screen where players are given different titles for collecting the most loot, dying the most, vacuuming the most crap, etc

I remember this game got a ton of crap back in the day for not being a 'real' Mario title, and it can reasonably be beaten in a rental period, but it was a ton of fun for what it was. That, and aren't the Dev's for this game the same ones who did Punch Out Wii? I have a lot of faith in them for that alone. EDIT: Never thought I would see a Tron reference in a Mario game.

Yeah, it's by Next Level Games, the same dudes who did the new Punch-Out!! game. Apparently Miyamoto really hammered 'em about adding lots of content this time, and told them they couldn't add multiplayer unless it'd be something that "would be played more often than Mario Kart". I can't imagine they'll come close to matching Mario Kart but it really does look fun and isn't just some half-arsed bullet point.

Oh, and for anyone wondering about the controls: you can use either the face buttons or the gyro to control the vacuum, but I don't think the game supports the Circle Pad Pro.

The multiplayer makes me think of CoD Zombies in a way, which is a Good Thing. It's kinda dookie that more games don't support Circle Pad Pro, though.

The first game was fun for about 2 hours at which point the game ended, but since Camelot isn't in charge of this one, it should be a little deeper. Despite being a really disappointing game with zero replay value, there's a lot of things I liked about the first one, including E Gadd and the cutesy use of the "game boy horror" and things like how Luigi's terror level would vary depending on the lighting. It had a lot of personality and helped Luigi shape up into the character he is known for today, which happens to be one of my favorite characters ever. Here's hoping this one is the game the first one should have been.

Gah, i wish they just had dual analog on the 3DS from the start. I really loved the original game, but I don't see anything but frustration with aiming the hoover using gyro or face buttons...

Won't lie and say the first one was worth a million replays; but it wasn't devoid of all value. I still play my copy time to time just because it's fun seeing how fast I can beat it and what mansions I end up with; and it's short enough to not take up hours upon hours of my time. To each their own but still.

Yo, I feel that, there's lots of short games I love going back to, this just wasn't one for me at all. I remember most people at the time feeling pretty much the same, saying they liked it while it lasted but that it was criminally short and there wasn't much to entice you to replay it. I beat it once, then I S-ranked it, and then it sat on my desk for the rest of the week-end, and I never felt the need to go back to it. ... Until now.

At last, we're almost there. I kinda hope they will turn Luigi's Mansion into a subseries, like they did with the Yoshi games and Wario Land. And the multiplayer looks really fun! Also, is it me, or has there been no sign of Mario, from what we've seen so far?
