Epix and pixel do commentary, and we plan to run shows we edit ahead of time to keep things flowing organically. We've done one show thus far and are already working on the next. We've gotten a lot of input already on how to polish the product up - in particular, better audio mixing, running music under the commentary during matches, and no commentary during entrances. We welcome more suggestions on improvements or new wrestlers. I'd like to thank Bazza for running an excellent and inspiring program. If it wasn't for VGCW we would have never thought of doing something like this, and all of us are huge fans. We don't plan to schedule against him or use any characters that he's currently using in VGCW, either. ![]() CURRENT ROSTER (5/11/2013) CAPCOM: Cody Travers, Kyle Travers, Hugo Andore, Mike Bison (Boxer), Nathan "Rad" Spencer, Frank West, Franziska von Karma, Rainbow Mika, Roxy, Arthur, Viewtiful Joe SQUARE-ENIX: Snow Villiers, Yang Fang Leiden, Zell Dincht, Ayla, Lucca Ashtear, Serah Farron, Alena, Yangus MISC NINTENDO: Travis Touchdown, Earthworm Jim, Master Higgins, Rash, Zitz, Pimple, Dark Queen, Pit, Billy Lee, Jimmy Lee, Slick, Professor Layton MISC PLAYSTATION/XBOX: Connor Kenway, Akihiko Sanada, Kanji Tatsumi, Chie Satonaka, Mitsuru Kirijo, Nathan Drake, Johnny Sasaki MISC SEGA: Axel Stone, Kid Chameleon, Sketch Turner MISC MISC: Biff the Understudy, The Lemmings, Commander Keen, Bonk, Dovahkiin, Reptile, Recette Lemongrass RETIRED/INJURED/FIRED: Amarant Coral (injured by Sephiroth), Corvo Attano (lost career match to Travis/Connor), Haytham Kenway (lost career match to Travis/Connor), Sephiroth (fired by Epix Bischoff) Our Sega knowledge as a group is shamefully low. Presented by Demitri Omni... The Channel: http://twitch.tv/deiterbomber The Archives: http://www.youtube.com/user/demitri...&view=1&sort=dd Shows on Sundays @ 6PM Central ![]() A more VGCW-styled plot-driven show, Luchadores Sans Frontieres is a true story of Naked Snake's lesser known Private Military Wrestling Company. He aims to train the best wrestlers there are from all walks of life (Video Games, Anime, Television, no borders) and bring them up to know the true way of the soldier-wrestler hybrid. Unfortunately, not everyone wants to earn everything the proper way, and will stop at nothing to get their title belts by any means necessary. It was originally pitched as the VGWF as the "Next" show for Bazza's production. He didn't dig it, but enough people thought it was cool that I ran with it. I dropped the VGWF name (for obvious reasons), and named it based on the GM I had set. The commentary is awful. Dial it back and try to commit to a low key persona. Probably write something in advance for any plot, but talk way less during the show. The chat in VGCW is one of the best parts of the show, don't try to replace it with awful commentary. The set up is nice, go for the WCW/WWF 90s rivalry angle for a genuinely entertaining spectacle. Maybe Bazza will be game and you guys can do things like the 'Montreal Screwjob' for cross promotion.

I don't think you really need a complete fight card to promote upcoming events. Real wrestling doesn't really do that either, after all. Maybe you can do an almost complete one for a season finale like it was a PPV, although even then there's usually bonus matches or dark matches. Otherwise, I'm sure you only really need to put up a partial card for stuff like title shots and number one contender matches. As for commentary, I like some of the back-and-forth like the discussion about the competitors' backgrounds during the Haytham/Corvo match. "'Murdering' is a strong word." Very traditional commentator dynamic, with picking different favorites and rooting for them, and one of them having a very, let's say "Lawler-style" approach to calling diva matches. The play-by-play could definitely use some work, though. I definitely didn't think it was as abysmal as people who were just expecting more Quad City DJs remixes and educated feet seemed to feel.

Regrettably, I am pixelandthepen, which also means I'm one of the commentators (heel commentator, loves puppies, etc). The stuff about keeping the commentary less frequent will definitely be taken to heart; PBP is not our strong suit and we'll be trying to do a lot less of it in the next card. (Our current commentary to silence setup was about 75/25, and I'd like to basically invert that in the future -- more 'interjecting re: hype spots and/or lady parts,' less 'trying desperately to fill dead air with shy, halting PBP'. I am also, for my part, trying to turn off the part of my brain that feels shame and hesitance in front of a microphone.) We're still kind of feeling out where we want the roster to go, which was why the diversity on the first card; out of respect for Bazza as first (or at least most current) to the post we don't want to use talent he's already using, and he has, quite frankly, some of the best old-school talent out there -- so no Mario twins, no Phoenix Wright, etc. As said, Sega-related suggestions that Bazza isn't already using, very welcome since none of us owned Sega systems as children. We do a lot of our CAWs in house or make heavy mods to what we already downloaded (though, disclosure, EWJ was a download that stayed untouched except for moveset, and we do have a couple other relatively 'pure' download guys coming; the Snow was our Snow, the Yang was our Yang, the Spencer was our Spencer, etc., though)

The best part was Earthworm Jim But yeah, commentary needs some more tuning, ultimately though it's video game characters fighting eachother so don't take it too seriously. If you want it to be some sort of WCW thing, find something that distinguishes yours out, but in a way that isn't forced or terrible, or overly serious. The worst thing you could possibly do is make it serious, especially with the commentary.

If you need Sega characters, here's some franchises to look into: Alex Kidd Vectorman (might be hard to make) Shinobi Altered Beast (there's no way to transform the characters in WWE 13 unless you have a human centurion for backstage and entrance attires and an animal costume as the ring attire) Ristar (would probably look freakish) Golden Axe Crazy Taxi NiGHTS into Dreams (might be hard to make a good Nights CAW) Comix Zone (possibly too obscure) Space Channel 5 (if you're doing a women's division)

Yeah, it's rough, but it's a work in progress. We're going to start piping in music next show which'll take off some of the pressure to fill dead air. Rivalry-wise, we did a couple jabs in good fun in the first episode but that'll be tapering off sharply unless Bazza wants to go in whole-hog with it. We don't want to try and force it.

Commentary was awful. None of the characters had intros or theme songs that I marked out for. Plot was meh. No funny chat to make the matches enjoyable to watch. No mash up theme songs or music played during the matches. You basically took the things that make VGCW good and threw them all out.

Lightbulb Grease posted:If you need Sega characters, here's some franchises to look into: We've talked about doing exactly that for Altered Beast, but we're on the fence; Golden Axe and Comix Zone are both great ideas. Well I watched a couple matches, and it's not as bad as I was expecting. I don't think the commentary was that bad, although it'd be nice to see a little more restraint with regards to how much of it there is, and you definitely need to lose the commentary over entrances. Honestly, the biggest problem I have is more of a personal thing, but I don't recognize about half of your roster. I realize you're deferring to Bazza and not using anyone that he is, but I skipped a third of the matches from the first episode because I had no idea who either of the wrestlers are. Hopefully that'll clear itself up as we see the rest of the roster.

Half the fun of watching VGCW is having no idea what the card is, so every entrance is its own surprise. Announcing the main event would be alright, since it gives you guys something to hype up at the start or between matches. Also, your roster isn't very...I'm trying to think of a good way to actually word this, but the first word that comes to mind is 'fun'. In VGCW, watching matches between really distorted caricatures like Proto Man, Tingle, Donkey Kong etc. matched with super-elaborately designed people like Ganondorf or Dracula adds this surreal filter to it all that helps you switch off and enjoy the characters more. Earthworm Jim's the guy who mainly fits that mold here. Right now, your roster's got a lot of 'serious' characters and 'people who fight' and it could do with a little more novelty. Just a bit of feedback since it's a work in progress. Hopefully you'll be able to improve and set yourself apart from Bazza in time. ![]() EDIT: Also having Epix Bischoff to compete with Bazza McMahon made me laugh. Hopefully that'll clear itself up as we see the rest of the roster. We appreciate the constructive criticism! We're going to be piping in music and then doing commentary over it next time, which will make me at least feel a lot less pressured to fill the dead air; I was avoiding music because my #1 concern is avoiding making a show that is just 'VGCW again', but pretty much everybody is asking for it, so there you go. Commentary over entrances is something we debated about; it's done a lot in actual WWE shows, which is why we decided to give it a try. We're not going to be doing it next time, though, with the possible exception of 'reactions to surprises' a la the Objction! moment or Sephiroth's entrance. Sadly there's not too much we can do about roster knowledge, although one of our foremost concerns going forwards is roster diversity. We have a handful more oldschool guys along the vein of Earthworm Jim lined up for the second show, and because we make our own CAWs we can introduce functionally whoever we want whenever we want, limited only by our ability to make them and me not making so many CAWs I want to blow up a bus station.

Since Bazza has asked that the streams not get posted in the VGCW thread (and I really don't think my stream is quite big enough for its own thread), I'll post mine here as well. I haven't actually named it yet (though I have a pretty dumb name in mind), so for now it's just "WWE Thing". http://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...feature=mh_lolz This is tonight's show in a playlist. There were a few hiccups, but for the most part it went the way I wanted it to. The stream is at http://twitch.tv/deiterbomber I'm likely going to create two more belts and hold King of the Ring tournaments (most likely within the next few days) to determine the initial holders. I also plan on diverging the characters a little more past the preset movesets I've given them, i.e. some slightly differing stats and perks.

Only just watched the Earthworm Jim vs. Master Higgins match, and I liked what I've seen so far. I actually enjoy the commentary and believe it sets this apart from Bazza's Stream. I do have to complain a little that you guys were bringing down the hype with Master Higgins' entrance. Kept joking on how long it was taking to get to the ring instead of basking in the ridiculous dance. I can understand it being difficult to add hype but at the very least don't take away from it. I assumed there was some damage difference between all the moves, but I may have underestimated the severity of the difference. I wish they just gave us stats on the moves when we were setting them. A FrankerZ train is just a group of people jumping from channel to channel spamming FrankerZ and making the chat unusable. They usually won't leave until you name another channel for them to jump to. I thought they were limited to only hitting speedrun channels so you should be safe. If not, could keep another channel in mind to hit or turn Subscribers only mode until they leave or something. I don't think they were actually in the chat, I think they thought their antics might be lagging Twitch's servers. I'm pretty sure the lag was on my end, though.

I'd say my favorite moment was the climax of the Jim fight but I only showed up halfway through due to my vampirism. That said I'd make another 'piece of advice' thing - don't overuse the 'theme song comes on, they win' thing. Unless that's already a fixture of real life rassling, it seems like it would be a little too cheap and make it less special. A close second was the ending of the tag team match. Did you guys run it a few times?
