Hi, my name is Syrg and I look awful. Random numbers to start out with (because this came out of a TradGames thread and that poo poo is all about numbers):

25 years old
212.3 lbs as of this post
Been away from a gym for 8 years, regular exercise routine for around 2?

I'm toxxing myself on a pair of goals by March 31st with a caveat below. I will comfortably make it back to 60+ minute sessions of cardio, and get myself to be able to pull off 50 reps of 60+lbs. on the pulldown machine. If I come close to, or succeed in, any of these tasks by February 28th, I will surpass them by March 31st (so, 90+ minutes of cardio, 75 reps of 70+lbs.).

If any of the aforementioned goals seem like cheating, tell me now so I can adjust ASAP. I will make 2+ posts on progress a week minimum. I am going to get my rear end in gear on this so that I no longer look like a marshmallow with a road flare on top.

I'm one of the refugees out of that TG-group thread that got shuttered a few weeks back. I toxxed myself and I've got goals to finish, and after a week or so of lurking and being stupidly nervous I'm making the thread. With my grandmother (staying with us due to a fractured tibia) on the mend, I can get to the gym again, and so I'm picking the log up to see if I can finish this.

I'll probably start working on dietary stuff here too because at this point my girlfriend is giving me poo poo about my gut and saying I need to calorie count. She's probably right. Rip me a new one, because I have already shown myself to be clueless and naive and I seriously do want to learn something from this.

Toxx status: Completed

90 minutes cardio (exercise bike), and 50 pulldowns at 66lbs.

Hit 60min cardio on the very last day of February, so by March 31st, I need to hit a goal of 90 minutes of sustained cardio, and 50 pulldowns of 60lbs. or more. I'm probably going to come up with a new goal/deadline when I'm done with these, because, well... getting back into acceptable shape and stopping seems like a foolish move when I've got the inertia.

I need to see how the hell to get cameraphone pics off this ancient phone still, so I have proof of the cardio stuff. Or whether my gym'd let me record myself doing the pulldowns. Crap.

First trip back to the gym in a couple of weeks was yesterday, it was not impressive but it got me moving.

pre:
30 minutes - stationary bike, 2.0-4.0 resistance (ratcheting up at 12 and 24 minutes)
Chest Press - 10x7 reps at 60 lbs. (with a ten-count breather every ten), 10x at 45lbs.
So on the diet thing, girlfriend pointed me at this calculator as a starting point. I was about to go looking through the FAQ post over here. These two complementary, or am I going in the entirely wrong direction with the first?

Week in review:

Monday - nothing
Tuesday - ~10 mile hike (probably a little shy, this is rounding up with walking to and from it)
Wednesday - nothing
Thursday - nothing
Friday - scrubbing an entire room to move into probably doesn't count as an exercise but damnit I'm sore from it

Still trying to figure out the dietary thing and not doing so hot. Iiiii'm probably in trouble.

Listen, I didn't face ten long tours against the goddamn 'bots to come back home and lift baby weights.

Have you tried tracking with something like MyFitnessPal? Shoot for 2100cal/day.

BMR (basal metabolic rate) is how many calories your body burns just breathing and pumping blood. TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) is BMR + whatever activity you do, like walking or not being in a coma. If you ate exactly at your TDEE every day, your weight would stay the same. The quick-start guide estimate of calories=weight*10 for weight loss is a good quick way of setting a calorie goal that works for most people to lose weight, without getting mired down in activity multipliers and other crap.

I was hiding under your porch because I love you

For some reason the D&D thread had me thinking you were in your fourties.

Go go get super fit syrg. When you learn the basics getting your fitness plan scheduled is easier than sorting out D&D games for sure.

Get fit not only for yourself, but for us listeners who are now going to be imagining you topless during podcasts.

90 minutes cardio (exercise bike), and 50 pulldowns at 66lbs. If the camerawork on the latter is too lovely, please tell me by Sunday so I can get out to the gym and try again in time to hit the deadline. I put it as out of the way as possible since a couple of patrons were not happy someone had a camera around in the gym (see: the woman in pink glaring at me in the middle).

I just realized that I haven't really eaten anything all day so I'm gonna go see what vegetables are still good in the fridge before grocery day and make a salad or soup or something.
