..Exactly what the title says. A workmate's aunt found her dumped behind a chemist and asked if we wanted to take her. They estimated her at a small 6-7 weeks but looking at her that is way off. She's absolutely tiny. She keeps trying to suckle on my fingers, though we have managed to get her to lick a little food off our fingers. There are no 24hr e-vets anywhere near us..as in, less than an hour & a half drive, no supermarkets open this late. Is there anything I can give her as a substitute until I can get her some replacement milk in the morning? Should I keep trying to get her to eat wet food? We were prepared for a weaned kitten but not for one this little..

A bit of an update-she's absolutely gutsing out on the wet food..I just have to sit here and feed it to her. She just doesn't seem to quite get the concept of eating out of a bowl yet so I have one extremely nibbled finger and a fed kitten. She's cleaning herself up on my lap as I type.

Your best bet is just to go with the Kitten Replacement Milk as soon as possible if you're not sure of the age, but in the meantime watering down the wet food til it has a thinner consistency will hold you til morning. If you are able to get to a big box store like Walmart that's open 24 hours, they have KMR there, unless there isn't one in your area. You will want to get a vet's opinion on the age when they are open. They'll be able to better advise you on a future nutrition plan.

Good luck with that cutie!

Unfortunately I am in Australia, so no Walmart. Got her eating but she doesn't quite get the eating out of a bowl thing so it's hand feeding for now. My other cat is throwing a massive sulk but will pick up Feliway from my vet tomorrow to hopefully help thinks along a bit.

What a cutie! I don't have any super good advice besides what was already posted, but you may want to give This thread a look over. It was another good dealing with a young kitten of their own and is full of great advice like feeding and pooping your tiny fur bundle.

Good luck! Keep us updated!

Quite often they sell Whiskas cat milk at the petrol station. It's not a complete food but it might be handy if she won't eat the wet food from the bowl.

Depending on the consistency of your wet food, if you add some water like Serella suggested and popped it in a blender you can probably get it down to something that you could pop into a wide syringe, providing you have one.

Secondarily, if you have a food-grade piping bag and a very small sized tip you could make an promptitude nipple if you don't have a syringe.

Thank you all for your super quick replies - turns out she's fine with solids, just can't figure out bowls. Put some food out on an old takeaway lid and she hoovered it down. Took her to the vets first thing this morning, he wormed her and told me to come back later in the week once she'd settled for her shots. Otherwise he said she was in good health if a little small, and ~6 weeks. So looks like she's got a lot going for a little dumpster kitty. Now to name her..

Haha, Oscar is an amazing suggestion! Will have to run it by my oher half though, he's pooh-poohed all my other ideas so far..though they have all been nerdy as hell!
She's been settling in wonderfully so far - my other cat, Malakai (desexed male DSH, also black, around about 8 years - Jason, my partner, got him before we met and isn't quite sure his exact age but that's close enough) still doesn't know quite what to make of her but luckily enough we had organised to have this week off together long before we knew we were getting her so we're taking introductions very slowly. I have read and re-read the megathread but any hints, tips or tricks from goons who have done this before are always appreciated!
She has been confined to the bathroom until she gets her shots at the end of this week but I let Malakai out into our yard earlier and let her out into the loungeroom. I never realised how nuts kittens were - she spent a full hour hammering around at top speed before finally crashing out on my lap. Much to my relief she's started pooping and peeing normally - it took her almost a full 24hrs before she went and I was getting close to ringing around at midnight to try find a vet in our area to see her. Never thought I'd be so excited about cat poo!
Wow, wall o' text! In return, here's the baby..

I need a little more help PI goons..Little miss has fleas. Don't know whether she's had them since we got her and we just haven't noticed (her coat is very thick, only noticed because one jumped off onto me) I treated her last night with Advantage for kittens and small cats but it's been over 24hrs and she still has them. The pamphlet says they should start dying off within 5 minutes - so they should be all dead by now, right? Obviously I can't re-dose her, is there anything else I can do to get them off her?

Light bath with baby shampoo? With my rescues I did a light bath and washed their fur with shampoo and saw the fleas go down the drain.( So many..) After that I used Advantage. Worked just fine.

Use tepid/slightly warm water, have a cup nearby, have a towel or two ready, turn off any A/C or fans for a bit, and control her before she controls you. You're doing a job and she shouldn't bother you during bathtime.

Does your other cat get flea preventative monthly? Have you seen any stray fleas around the house?

If the fleas are dense enough you might pick them off with a pair of tweezers. We once rescued a kitten that had a black carpet of fleas on it's underbelly. I wish I was exaggerating. If you've treated them with advantage and the main wave of fleas hasn't died, I agree that you should just give the cat a gentle bath. After that, keep a good eye out to make sure that new fleas don't show up.

Do keep in mind that some fleas have built up an immunity to advantage, so you may need to get Frontline if the advantage doesn't clear the fleas out.

Bwah, what a little soot puff you've got! I'm glad the kitten seems to be doing well, and it's totally adorable. If you can slowly integrate the kitten into your other cat's life that will make things easier down the road as it will have an older cat to teach it manners.

As far as advice for fleas, just don't be tempted by any drugstore stuff. From what I've heard it's all cheap and can just end up hurting the cat.

Can't emphasize this enough. The cheap drugstore flea treatment at best doesn't work, and at worst can kill your pet through liver failure or worse. It's just not worth it. You can get Frontline and Advantage for very cheap on Amazon, and they're proven to work.

Frontline is good but avoid Advocate (advance in some places?) as the dog version can kill cats (and who knows if those are dog ones in the wrong shelf etc). Profender is what I use for my cats but no idea what that is sold under in your country.

Thank you all again for your quick replies - I didn't notice any more fleas on her last night so I think the ones I did see after she was treated were the last few bailing out. She was treated with Advantage for kittens, and my older cat was treated with Frontline. We didn't want to risk using the Frontline on her as it's only recommended for cats over 8 weeks and we weren't 100% sure of her age. I bought some pet shampoo yesterday so if I notice anymore I'll bath her.
She's settling in wonderfully and even making progress with Malakai. The funny part was he seemed petrified of her to start with but he has gone from scared to irritated to ALMOST playing last night. She so badly just wants to play but he just baps her on the head and wanders off. Mind you, she doesn't help matters by waiting for him to turn his back and pouncing on his tail! They were sneaking up on each other and chasing each other around so I think things are looking up..
She's pretty much toilet trained herself too, smart cookie! The only thing she was struggling with was drinking out of a bowl so I've just been mixing heaps of water in with her wet food to make sure she's getting enough but she sat there and watched Malakai drinking last night and tried to imitate him..by dunking her whole face into the bowl and then lapping in midair. At least she tried I guess, haha.
For reading a wall o'text, here's a cat!

And Malakai, our boy..

And she has a name now..when she gets excited she flattens her ears out and she looks like a little gremlin so Mogwai it was..

Go to your pet supply store and pick up some food-grade Diatomaceous Earth. It's cheap and very safe. Treat the your house for fleas by sprinkling it anywhere the kitten has been (or just your whole place, wherever the container gets you), vacuum, and then toss the bag/empty the container and take it out of your house. Better safe than sorry with fleas.

Yeah, pretty much every single cat does. They have a natural instinct to bury their waste, there isn't usually any training involved besides showing the cat where the litterbox is.

That's kind of weird. My box of Advocate (I'm in the UK) has a picture of cats on the front and has recommended weight and age on the outside of the box. The dog one has dogs on it and the same appropriate info.

I'd already treated my 4 month (at the time) boy a week or two before with Frontline but here in the UK we developed some uber-fleas that were resistant to it. It did make a difference, but there were some stragglers. Vet said it was OK to use Advocate on him and those fuckers bit the dust.

Dear OP, Mogwai is so darling

Seconding this. A former roommate of mine brought a couch covered in fleas into our house we were in at the time, and I only got free of them after I moved out a month later and treated all my stuff outside of the house (it didn't help we were unaware she brought it in from a house crawling with fleas, and we didn't notice the fleas until they had established themselves in our house and on our cat). [edit: the point of the story being fleas are terrible, and the sooner you address a potential threat, the better!]

On a more positive note, Mogwai is a fantastic name, and I hope we get to see more pictures.
