First thing I did after hitting G rank was doing gathering quests in Tundra, getting a crapton of great stuff. Fully upgraded the insecticutters and got the rustshard greatsword, and ancientshard gunlance, hammer, and light bowgun.

It seems pretty normal from what I hear of most people talking about their Moga forecasts. I go several quests in a row waiting for a good 5 star commodity-dropping monster. You want to shoot from head to tail or wingtip to wingtip so it does the most hits. (almost) Always aim for the head or belly, and get as close as you can because supposedly there is damage falloff. Don't bother with slicing ammo on solo hunts. You can work around maximum ammo limits by bringing materials to make some during the hunt (Great for crag and cluster ammo). If your gun can fire sleep shots always bring some barrel bombs and sleep bomb the mofo. I'm thinking about making a bomb boost set and charming/gemming in artillery expert, so that I'll have buffed crag shot and wyvernfire, and when I do sleepbombing I'll get more damage out of it. It'll be like using Torgue guns in Borderlands 2.

EAThief posted:I think I'm running into a problem. I've been using long swords but I'm trying to figure out other weapons too. The problem I'm running into is that none of the other weapons have fade slash. I NEED fade slash. An attack AND a dodge all in one? Amazing. I've put like 500 hours at least into Demon's/Dark Souls and I think I'm trying to play this game the same way and it really isn't working out. Once I get out of that mindset maybe it'll be a little easier to use other stuff. You just can't play other weapons as greedy as you can the longsword. You'll start to figure out when doing a full combo will get you hit and when it won't. (To put this in Dark Souls terms, learn how to be less of an R1 spammer, because that just gets you smacked by a dude with high poise.) Also keep in mind that each weapon has a different kind of dodge or block to it. The sidesteps that you can do with the switch axe, lance, gunlance, light bowgun, and dual swords seem to have a bit more in the way of invincibility frames than a normal dodge. There are also the Evade and Evade Distance skills, the first of which gives more invincibility frames to the dodge of any weapon you're using. Yes, going from longsword to other weapons makes you lose fade slash, but you gain stuff that longsword doesn't have, like blocking, more damage per single strike, KO, different reach, etc. Speedboat Jones fucked around with this message at 19:50 on Apr 10, 2013 |

Here's a little pitch for Athena's Armor Skill app for Windows: If you're not using it, why the hell not? Don't be lazy. Download it. It's fantastic. Barring an incorrect reading, it has seemingly put together an armor set for me that gives Crit Draw, Punish Draw, and Sharpness +1 using a charm I already own. Now I need to kill a crapload of G Rank Joe, Duramboros, and Diablos.

When you get to the last phase of the fight it's really important that you get into a good rhythm with the gong, the binder, and the dragonator. With those three things together evenly spaced apart you should be able to stop him almost every time he's about to do his big slam on the ship.

One of the goons I grouped with the other day said that the Sand Barioth / Black Diablos advanced quest has a much better chance of rewarding them, you need to do the single Black Diablos hunt to unlock it though, and it's not always in rotation. That's right. I hunted G Diablos for a few days before hearing about Plain Dangerous. I did some HR7 keys until it popped up, and the first time I did it I got a hardhorn. Supposedly the hardhorn can appear in regular quest rewards, so you don't actually need to cap him to get it. But I still cap anyway just to make fighting him over sooner.

The thing that makes it easy to put down bombs and a trap for Deviljho is when he wakes up, he takes a pretty big sidestep, so you set it a few steps away from him so that he doesn't activate it. Then you bomb him, and when he wakes up he takes that big sidestep and falls in your trap. Deviljho's an rear end in a top hat but you definitely have some tools to lock him down for a few seconds at a time and wail on him. ISUCHARESLOLO posted:Monster Hunter thread, will this goddamn majestic horn ever drop or am I just not meant to have the full diablos set? If you're going to be putting the time into farming any Diablos gear and dealing with bullshit drop rates on the ultra rares, it should be the G rank sets. The LR Diablos armor is definitely cool for the critical and all that, but the amount of effort going into making a set that gets outclassed so quickly is not worth it. If you fight HR or G Diablos they have a much higher percentage of dropping majestics. Same goes for Rathalos/Rathian/Lagiacrus dropping plates.

I don't think it's really just the kelbi bow that's overpowered, but like you said, slime itself is. I've taken the kelbi into a quest where I was the only person using it, but there was also a slime GL, slime DS, and a slime LS. And every quest with this group was over in under 5-7 minutes on G-rank. I used the kelbi bow to farm some G-rank poo poo faster and now I have a pretty fun great sword and a critical draw/speed sheath set to use with it. I'm not making any plans to go back to kelbi anytime soon, outside of wanting to obliterate the hell out of something in Moga freehunt for rare trades.
