I have not. Is it worse than lutefisk? Is such a thing even possible? What is it with Scandinavian food? A lot of Korean food is based around pickling and fermenting too but Korean food is great. How does Norway just get it so wrong so often?

By all means, don't tell us anything about it or even what it is.

What's funny is that this thread will likely be divided right down the middle of people who absolutely would not eat ____ and people who find it delicious.

I have never been able to taste it because just the thought of the smell makes me want to vomit.

Because fermenting in Norway means "bury it in the ground and eat it a couple of months later or put it in a poisonous substance and eat it a couple of months later".

Yeah, living in Colorado and Nebraska, gently caress that.

Reverse googling suggests it's a Finnish dessert called mämmi.

wikipedia posted:

Mämmi is made of water, rye flour, and powdered malted rye, seasoned with dark molasses, salt, and dried powdered Seville orange zest. The mixture is then allowed to go through a slow natural sweetening process before being baked in an oven until set. Preparation takes many hours, and after baking the mämmi is stored chilled for three to four days before being ready to eat. Mämmi was traditionally stored in small bowls made of birch bark called tuokkonen or rove. Finnish packaging still prints birch bark-like texture on the carton boxes.
Sounds pretty non-disgusting to me

Also, I believe this internet classic hasn't been posted yet :v:

Have some Century Egg:

quote:

A Chinese cuisine ingredient made by preserving duck, chicken or quail eggs in a mixture of clay, ash, salt, quicklime, and rice hulls for several weeks to several months, depending on the method of processing.

Through the process, the yolk becomes a dark green to grey colour, with a creamy consistency and an odor of sulphur and ammonia, while the white becomes a dark brown, translucent jelly with little flavour.

Almost flavorless with a strong smell of sulphur and ammonia? You spoil me :allears:

Huitlacoche is supposed to have a complex, woody flavor so it probably isn't substantially different from any other gourmet mushroom. It's more the idea of eating this thing that looks like a diseased tumor and whose name may be Nahuatl for "sleeping excrement" or "raven excrement".
