Nothing that comes close to period cookies, but this thread reminds me of James Lileks' Gallery of Regrettable Food. It's more making fun of mid-century cookbooks than the food within, but it nevertheless manages to be revolting and hilarious at the same time. An example of the delicacies on the site:

Reichstag posted:A kind soul just pointed this thread out to me. I have an ongoing photography project which is specifically in response to foodporn, and the fetishization of food through glamour photography. I love this one and would hang it up in my kitchen. Great colors.

Before I enlarged the image, I thought it was an everything bagel, which would've been a bit dense and caloric, but not horrible. The reality is so much worse. Do people eat things like that because they actually think they'll taste good, or just so they can say they ate it?

While this is by no means as vile as most of the food in this thread, I feel like it qualifies as anti-food porn, albeit not in any way I can put my finger on. We got a flyer at work today for a new restaurant opening up around the corner. Checked it out, and found this. The food looks fine, in a slapped together mid-week dinner kind of way, but that has to be the least glamorous food photography I've ever seen on a restaurant's website. And I'm not really sure what's going on with the individual portraits (on saucers!) of each soda they carry. Not gross, just... weird. The salads look pretty good, though.

I've had a Caesar salad made with a whole grilled head of romaine, and it was delicious. The grilling brought out a nice sweet-smoky flavor from the lettuce which worked really nicely with the rest of the ingredients. Fun to eat as well.

El Estrago Bonito posted:Raspberry lemonade is delicious, they just for some reason thought rosemary was a thing that needed to be added to it. Tasted like a scented candle. A bar I like makes a drink with gin, fresh lemon juice and rosemary simple syrup. It's ridiculously, dangerously delicious.

I work with a middle-aged woman who straight-up brags about not being able to cook, as if it's a badge of honor or something. Congratulations on not having basic life skills, I guess?

This has popped up on my Facebook a couple times recently: It's a "peanut butter cookie lasagna", and apparently I have acquaintances who think it looks delicious. I think I have diabetes just from the picture. Recipe here if you hate yourself.

ACES CURE PLANES posted:Why would you have that in a bun? It looks like a perfectly serviceable sundae idea, so why ruin it with a two cent hotdog bun? Just that one addition ruins the entire thing. I'd eat the hell out of it in a dish though. That's a glazed donut, not a hot dog bun. Dear lord. Kind of reminds me of an otherwise pretty nice place I got brunch at recently. I got an eggs benedict type thing with fried green tomatoes and crab meat and was quite happy with it, but every pancake/waffle/French toast dish on the menu was covered in three different sauces, piles of whipped cream, and for some reason, sugary cereal. I just can't imagine eating that much sugar for breakfast, or at all. Crow Jane has a new favorite as of 16:24 on Mar 5, 2015 |
