I'm on campus. I got the alert about a gunman near the campus center as I walked out of the university hospital towards the campus center which is right next to the hospital. Weeeelp.

Your roommate's probably fine up there. I think a gunman would be more likely to head for a hospital, but if that's on lockdown, you're both good. Still have my fingers crossed for you two and everyone else there, as well. I just read about this from someone on a non-SA forum, as well. From what I understand, no shots have been fired and the school does have a shooting range, so it could very easily be a misunderstanding. Here's hoping school security/local law enforcement is just VERY quick to react for safety's sake!

IUPUI friend has been texting-- he's stuck in the hospital which is apparently where the gunman is at. There's also apparently some speculation that the guy might be the abusive husband of a woman who works there (also in the hall friend is currently in) so the police took her to be secured, but dunno what's going on right now.

According to the scanner, the police are asking for cars from nearby precincts to aid in the search, but nothing found yet that I can tell. Who even knows how reliable the report was, it was just someone in a parking lot with what "might have been a gun". The search has been going on for an hour and a half now, almost certainly a false alarm. A few hospitals nearby are locked down as well, but otherwise still operating normally.

Apparently the radiology department got an email saying the cops are actively looking for the aforementioned abusive husband and are pretty sure it's him, so I don't know if it's a false alarm or what the police are doing really.

I don't know the names of places on campus/nearby, I don't go to IUPUI-- my friend's updating from the university hospital though. I don't know if that info is all that widespread though or if it's just a tip the police are operating on or what.

Sounds like the friend you're texting with is at IUPUI University Hospital, which is in the same area.
