Cyberpunk Bastion sounds pretty good on paper and I love the art style, it's just similar enough to Bastion's that you can tell it's the same crew but different enough to stand on its own merits.

Logan Cunningham, the VA for Bastion's Narrator is involved, too.

gently caress yes. I really loved Bastion (despite some flaws) so I'm looking forward to this.

This trailer doesn't truly show off what the gameplay is going to be like in this game, nor does the art truly look fleshed out yet in-game. However, the soundtrack alone is just enough to grant me an interest in what is to come. Cheers, Supergiant.

Sold! One of my favourite aspects of Bastion.

Looks neat, but I hope the combat is more interesting than Bastion's was. All those weapons and fighting stuff was still pretty boring.

I am so hyped for this game, Bastion was one of my favorite games of last year. On the combat: Greg Kasavin, the writer and co-designer on both posted over at Quarter to Three Greg Kasavin posted:The combat has a strategic focus. People will see at PAX East later this week where we have an early playable build.

Did you play with idols on? poo poo got complex for me when I had to be hella careful and use all my tools to their fullest. Super excited for this, worry they're retreading old ground with gameplay and aesthetic but damned if the soundtrack doesn't work for me. Besides, the real gem of Bastion was its narrative. Edit: ^^ Um. Nevermind. Super stoked for gameplay too.

As cool as Bastion's presentation was, the game play felt really lackluster to me. If this takes it in more of an action focused direction, I'll be all over it.

I'm sold just on the trailer music alone. The Bastion soundtrack, particularly Setting Sail, Coming Home, is up there with Babu Yetu as just flat-out amazing pieces of music, much less video game music. Logan Cunningham being onboard is just icing on the cake. Dat voice.

Echoing the comments on Bastion's gameplay. On the other hand the fact it's a female protagonist and a great art deco sci fi setting gets them major brownie points. Not liking her bouncy run though.

I'm a little confused over the comments on Bastion's gameplay. I've always played with all idols and it's been mostly balls to the wall for me, especially in the dream levels.

Yea, the idea of 'mediocre' combat doesn't really ring true in my mind when I recall Bastion. People playing with no or a couple Idols on are easymoding it for sure. Seriously, with this coming early 2014, and the various sweet Kickstarter titles popping up around the same time, its going to be one hell of a gaming holiday season/quarter. The real question is, what do we do waiting for this stuff? Berk Berkly fucked around with this message at Mar 20, 2013 around 04:02 |

Awesome, I got goongifted Bastion and ended up fully completing it. I thought the action/difficulty towards the end was pretty fair (while being difficult) with the idol stuff. I'm not sure I'd want a 1:1 sequel... I think especially because they are a "new" company I'd like to see what else they can do, so hopefully this'll have some unique, interesting mechanic to it. Something's been bugging me about that sword, though, I swear it looks familiar...

I can see Bastion having underwhelming gameplay if you don't experiment much with your weapon loadout while never touching the idols. They'd miss the depth that was there in the combat. Other people just may have been underwhelmed by the gameplay, 'cause experience is a subjective thing.

I wouldn't agree with anyone saying the gameplay was boring, but it's true that it wasn't revolutionary or anything, which is what some people are looking for. It was certainly very competent though, but for some people that's just not enough, and there's nothing wrong with that. Bastion was no Bayonetta in the gameplay department, but it wasn't setting out to be that, and the weapon variety did plenty to keep it fresh. And to its credit you could probably talk to 10 different people who played it and hear 10 different favorite weapon setups. I just wish they had made the announcement that this game is coming out, say, tomorrow instead of at an unspecified time in the future, because this waiting is going to suck.

YorexTheMad posted:I can see Bastion having underwhelming gameplay if you don't experiment much with your weapon loadout while never touching the idols. They'd miss the depth that was there in the combat. Agreed. I personally thought Bastion was a blast. Hands down one of my favorite indie games of all time. But I played with idols on, tried out various weapons often. The gameplay is very Zelda: LTTP-esque so I guess if people dislike Zelda-esque combat, then I can see them not liking Bastion. It's not revolutionary (as Hotline: Miami was), but it's solid, relatively simple, and fun. I'm shocked that there are that many people who thought it was boring.

I really can't see why people didn't like Bastion's combat. It was nearly always hectic and fun, and sometimes required you to use your current loadout in creative ways in order to tackle certain challenges. But honestly, narrative, art and music are the core components of Bastion. In my eyes, Bastion is as much a piece of literature or art as any book, painting, album, or movie are, and more. Bastion truly is a game for the ages. The same quality of art and music are both readily apparent in the trailer, but I'm still undecided on the gameplay since there wasn't anything comprehensive in the trailer. I am no doubt intrigued.

I had a lot of fun grinding for levels and trying the idols. Then the Ura show up and everything I know ended up being worthless. I thought those loving birds were the worst. Now I have to try different weapons since I couldn't break their tank, as my weapons were auto-aiming elsewhere. The controller was only needed for the weapons challenges, but I relied on cheesing things to proceed.

Really excited for this. Bastion was one of my favorite games of all time (yet). Cyberpunk and with a female protagonist (this is timely) as well? Couldn't ask for more.

They'd miss the depth that was there in the combat. There was more depth to Bastion's combat than I was expecting for that type of game, but I wouldn't exactly call it deep or anything. That was actually one of my problems with it, since I ended up doing the all-idol challenges - it basically exposes the flaws in the system, because it clearly wasn't built with that kind of difficulty in mind. Still a fantastic game, though.

I am so unbelievably loving god drat excited for this I am about to burst out of my skin. Bastion is one of my favorite games of all time for various different reasons and now Supergiant is making a game in a similar vein but its cyberpunk? This is quite possibly literally a game that is directly tailored to my tastes and desires to a degree with which I previously thought impossible. I love Supergiant's art style and bringing back Ashley Barrett to do vocals for the trailer song gave me chills (as well as the song being pretty drat sweet)...I might be upset to see so many similarities to a previous game if I wasn't so absolutely enthralled with everything that has to do with Bastion (I flagged down the one guy I saw doing The Kid cosplay at Dragoncon to get photos even though his outfit wasn't particularly impressive). At this point I feel like Supergiant is trying to build a particular brand with their usage of the same set of people reprising their roles in various forms and honestly I am completely okay with that, because the brand they're building is one that I am 100% behind supporting. In other words this game seriously cannot come fast enough. I 100%'ed Bastion and I fully expect to do the same in this while loving every second of it.

Part of me tells me it's too early to get excited, since we still don't know all that much about the story yet. Then again, the looks really pretty, the bit of music we heard sounds good, Logan's gonna be in it, and I get some distinct Noir vibes from the entire thing. It's hard to not get at least a little excited.

I think I'm the only person who can't stand Logan Cunningham's voice, and why I didn't get very far in Bastion.

I thought the way they applied the Narrator was interesting and had promise, but it fell kind of flat and I didn't find the actual performance all that mindblowing. Hopefully this is more complex and engaging than Bastion. Even when I kicked the difficulty up a lot of the game was really braindead and my attention started slipping at the halfway point despite the excellent art-style, etc. etc.

I always thought the way Bastion's "higher" difficulty modes managed to be really engaging despite me not being a fan of its fundamental design to be one of the biggest reasons why I loved it so much. I'm definitely going to keep an eye on this; at the rate they're making games and with how beautiful the art looks, they might as well be the Western equivalent of Vanillaware, and I'm totally down with that.

I'm super pumped for this, Bastion was definitely one of the most interesting and well presented games I ever played. I am confident that this developer can pull it off again. Echoing the complaints about the chick's run animation though. It seems a little silly.

I am way to excited for this after just one trailer, but I loved Bastion so much that I have faith that whatever SuperGiant Games does next will be great. Bastion's actually in this week's humble bundle, so if you haven't played it yet or know somebody who hasn't, now's a great time to pick it up! I actually bought the game for the 10th time after seeing the announcement trailer.

On Bastion's gameplay: sure it was pretty easy unless you have all the idols turned on and a bit shallow, but I'd much rather have that and have all weapon choices be different and viable than have really polished gameplay but with only One True Build. That may just be me, though. Bastion is one of my favorite games, and considering this is looking to be Cyberpunk Bastion With A Female Protagonist, this is probably going to be a first day buy.
