My apartment has become an impromptu cat rescue society minus the funds from kind donors. A neighbor of ours discovered a cat in her car on her way back from the ministry she volunteers at. Apparently, this ministry has taken it upon themselves to feed the stray/feral cats (milk! We already have four cats in our apartment, so didn't bring her inside in case she was a really friendly stray who might be infected with something. So the cat's gone, and I tell the neighbor we'll keep an eye out for her. None of us see the cat, but the neighbor comes by today, obviously overwhelmed. She and her husband found the cat, but are having allergic reactions to her and have already tried the animal control and humane society and neither will take her. So, because my roommates and I are bleeding hearts, especially for kitties, we took her in (it was going to storm tonight) and she's now in the bathroom away from the other cats. They were calling the cat Scampers, we're going to call her Luna for now. She appears to be less than a year old, is EXTREMELY sweet and affectionate, and does not have fleas or ticks on her (we checked). The ministry took her in for some shots (what shots we don't know, but assume the standard ones). She does not appear to have any scar tissue that would indicate having been fixed, but it's difficult to tell on female cats. When the neighbor took her to the animal control person before, she said their vet thinks Luna may have had kittens at some point. When we saw her on Saturday, her stomach was swollen but as since returned to normal size. We're not sure if she has actually had kittens or if the milk they were feeding her was just doing strange things to her. She's set up with a scratching post, a makeshift litter box (that she has poked around in but has not yet done her business in), some Blue food (what we feed our cats and the only thing we have on hand) and a bowl of water. Since we have four cats, we obviously can't keep her, not in an apartment where we're already two over the limit. So we're searching for someone who will take her. For any goons interested, we're in Jacksonville, Florida, and my fiancee, also a goon (swatjr) is able to receive PMs. Want a cat? This one's free! In the mean time, any advice on similar situations or simply talking about how cute this cat is will be awesome. Pics because I know you want them: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Tl;dr: We rescued a stray cat. Anyone want her or anyone who has advice from this point on from similar situations, feel free to post here! Edit: no more table breaking. avon_grey fucked around with this message at Mar 22, 2013 around 21:10 |

Sorry about that! We have a prospective person who wants to take her and someone else trying to convince her boyfriend that another cat won't hurt, so we'll see what happens. We've picked a few fleas off of her, have cleaned her ears a bit of the dirt, but she's generally clean and bug-free!

....that cat has the triforce on her face. There has to be a way to use that to your advantage.

I think the triforce can be used to help her find her a home with a good, loving nerd! That's what I hope, anyway.

Jacksongoon here, not looking for a new cat, but appreciative of how dumb people can be, particularly in florida. Keep Luna in a confined area with the litterbox and lots of fresh water, with small amounts of food provided regularly. Bathrooms are perfect for this, as you can leave the tap trickling, and clean up is simplified. She'll figure it out. If she's used to the outdoors and refuses to use the nice litter, get a small bag of dirt and dump that on top. What part of Jax do you live in?

Hey, fellow Jax goon! She's in the bathroom and has successfully used the litter box! She's been eating regularly and drinking like no one's business. We are still searching for someone to take her as I'm not expecting the one person who might have shown interest to contact me and the other person who was interested cannot take her. To answer your question, we live in the Intracoastal area very close to the Town Center and UNF.

We must hang out! I am north by the airport. If you cant find anyone by you to take her, you might want to try Cat's Angels in Fernandina. They are fantastic.

We adopted our cat O'Malley from Cat's Angels and had already talked to them. They were overfilled by like 30 cats, so that was sad. But good news! A friend of mine and her husband took Bathroom Kitty to her forever home yesterday evening. They spent about two minutes with her, asked general questions about taking care of cats (neither of them have owned pets before ever, which is a shock), then decided they loved her. Bathroom Kitty helped by being her adorable self, purring at them and rolling over for belly rubs and licking the husband. Then we took them with us to Petco and showed them the necessary supplies and gave them some as well when we came back to the apartment to get Kitty. They're already trying to contain themselves by not filling up the Facebook feed with kitty pictures. But they really love her and seem really comfortable now that we talked them through cat ownership. Really, she pretty much the easiest cat ever, considering she was outside for so long. So all's well that ends well! And Suspect Bucket, PM the hubby (swatjr) for hanging out details.
