I really hope this arc ends soon, its dragging as bad as Ice Hell. I really think Toriko should only fight wierd beasts, and those fights should take, like, 2 chapters long at most. Bring on the culinary adventures!

This arc only started to drag when the author decided to show us one on one fights that take up entire issues. Show a bunch of fights per issue, and make them last 1-2 chapters long.

This is basically going to be the end of Part 1, as well as being a huge escalation of conflict that takes us into the Gourmet World. It's pretty fitting that we're seeing bigger fights that show how the characters have grown so that it's all the more shocking when Coco runs into poison dragons and Zebra has shouting contests with yeti 300 miles in the air (at a place with .01 atmospheres of air pressure)

I don't mind all the one on one fights because so far they have been amazing. It's really starting to drag because we've just had four issues of fight build up. This is approaching Dragon Ball Z levels of dragging on.

Flys around in a GT robo and picks at his head for most of the manga

Suddenly talks about being serious.

I understand that Starjyun is Toriko's threatening rival and everything, but he seems very boring when he is interacting with Toriko.

Not only this, but while most of the characters have experienced a culture shocking metamorphosis from thier training, Toriko still seems like a pansy compared to say Sani or Zebra (still curious about Coco)

Just when you think the battle is going to be over, Starjyun pulls a sword out, and suddenly, Toriko is once again ineffective.

I also want to mention something else, but Aimaru's "Ultimate Routine" seems strange. For a man who eats diseases, and then was bed ridden because of said diseases, you'd think he would have used his "Ultimate Routine" to cure himself. So either he just recently learned it after obtaining food honor with Chin, which makes no sense, since he talks about how his limit is once every 2-3 months, because he has to have actually mastered performing this, or it's just a plot hole.

Either way, I was more interested in seeing a one shot image of Zebra headlocking one Nitro whilst stomping upon another

From the little information we're given regarding Starjyun, he has somehow lost an important food memory. Tin Foil Hats speculate it was lost at Gourmet Casino, which you see Toriko pick up a memory from there just after defeating Live Bearer, which it is assumed that it is Star's lost memory. How Star lost this memory is anyones guess, but considering the shadiness of the Bishoukukai, it might have been tricked from him.

How the missing ingredient will play out is anyones guess

I'll show you... a nightmare...
The real problem is that he isn't a force that has been shown to be threatening to the main characters at all. Like, he's appeared before, and everyone is afraid of him, but we really don't see it.

He did fight Toriko in the GT Robo during the Regal Mammoth arc, but who gives a gently caress because we didn't actually see him. That's not the same thing.

Now, if he appeared at some point, back handed Coco or Sani, went toe to toe with the heroes more, he'd have much more of a presence and we would have more of an idea of what were supposed to feel about this dude.

He did almost kill Rin back during the Regal Mammoth arc, as well as nearly killed Komatsu after Komatsu refused to let him take his chef's knife. I don't think Komatsu wants to be buddies with Starjun.

But to do this without killing them back in the day (because He is somehow still above and beyond Toriko's powers), it would be sort of cartoony and unbelieveable that he didn't kill them. That he has fought them in a GT robo (that didn't properly display his powers to the maximum), was at one point believable, however the GT Robo is a very clunky enemy device at this juncture, (as characters like Mansam can just destroy droves of them in a single punch).

Now if he did this to say Zebra, I imagine that he would have survived it, and there would have been this gauge with which to match him against.

As it stands, it is all Mindgames right now.

Crunkjuice posted:

I would peg JoeJoe for this, personally. Starjyun still seems like Toriko's Antithesis within the Bishokukai, and that he would not turn on Midora without a mind blowing/changing event or epiphany

I think the real problem is that people like Tommyrod and Grinpatch were built up to be powerful enemies but also really entertaining, and Starjun was a always just in a GT Robot/trying to be menacing. To be honest, I cared more about Elg as a villain than Staryun, this arc was awesome but now it seems to have slowed down a lot with the Toriko/Starjun fight. It seems like now both of them are going to fight all out and it could be cool, but I hope Toriko kills him now so I don't have to bother trying to care about Starjun anymore.

The best villains in Toriko have all been completely grotesque and bizarre. Starjun is fairly normal looking and has a high body temperature. It wouldn't be a problem if he wasn't being touted as some ultimate villain, but he really doesn't stand out enough to get this much attention.

But seriously we haven't received much info on the guy. We know his blood's pretty drat hot. We know he wields a fire sword. There's probably a lot to him... Unless of course Toriko kills him during this.

Ah, the true heroes of this manga finally make an appearance.
I've always loved the three pets, and the last time we saw them VS. the Four Beast they were really awesome. I find it hilarious that they're smart enough to go get Jirou before they enter the fight. His "pet" is gigantic, but I still don't think it has anythings on Zebra's zebra.

I hope this "imagine" thing doesn't become a constant. Somehow it's just not appealing to me.

Also a part of me hopes Jirou is actually a member of the new group that's formed its self. This way we eventually get Toriko versus Jirou.

I agree. This fight has been pretty boring - can't really compare to Toriko's old mid-fight power-ups (hormones, autophagy)

Welp... This is boring.

I'll admit my heart jumped a bit at the description of his kitchen knife and then seeing it pierce through what I imagine is a 50x strength fork shield

but in the end this "Supreme Routine" Imagery stuff is incredibly boring.

It now comes down to who has the better imagination

I think we should move on to Rin vs Bei, it might actually be interesting.

I think Toriko lost a leg in that exchange, and it wasnt shown (save for his scream at the end)

Alot of people be hatin' on StaaAAAaarrjun, but he has always been the leader of the bad guys, and hes the most powerful villain Toriko has faced thus far, for certain. I think StaaAAAaarrjun is a very dramatic character, like when they met him that pub, or when he showed up grabbing Komatsu at the beggining of this fight. I think the problem people have with starjun that he has been unexcited by the prospect of anything up until this point, which makes him kind of a dull character.
