The Long, Dark Walk It has been a long walk down. The slope is usually downhill, sometimes stairs are cut into the rock, but most of the journey is made through tunnels. By anyone’s best guess, it has been three days travel. A dozen wardens, a cleric, and an odd wizard guard roughly two-score convicts through the darkness to the mining colony. Each convict is individually bound and carries a portion of the group’s supplies on their backs. The march suddenly stops when the warden scouting ahead screams, “Goblins! Too man-” and is cut short. All convicts begin with their hands bound(a simple rope tying them together), and do not possess their weapons. They are allowed their armor due to the danger of monsters in the tunnels and because it would slow them if they attempted to escape. Maximillian Your prep for the Imperial Heist had been thorough, so you recognize the seedy warden of the gagged prisoner as a member of the Imperial Left Hand, one of the Empress’ own assassins. As soon as the wardens begin shouting he and his prisoner disappear in a puff of smoke. This leaves you out of the line of sight of anyone but that odd, slow wizard. Marisa You are near the front of the group. You see the wardens looking to a Dwarven cleric for leadership, and hear a commotion behind you. Jarl Ozruk The Rations had been meager and to compare the drinks on hand to piss would be an insult to piss. Still, Jarl had gotten along well enough with some of the wardens. When the commotion started, one of them looked appraisingly in his direction. Dr. Douglass Dangerous Dehydration was beginning to become a concern when the march stopped. A cloud of smoke appeared around your position and you felt yourself being pulled away from the rest of the group. Holvar Rockfist Holvar drew the short length of rope, and was thus chosen to return to the surface to lead those whose tour had ended back, and then to bring the new convicts and wardens back down. Once the goblins appear, the wardens all look to you for orders. Avon Morgan As a volunteer Avon is considered a warden, though nobody seems keen to make conversation or even stay too close to the odd wizard. Avon trails slightly behind the rest of the group, and when the shout is heard he is the farthest from it. I took some liberties setting this up for you all but everything from here is on you.

Dr. Dangerous Dr. Dangerous decided quickly to play along with whomever staged this little escapade. After all, his situation literally could not get any worse. He could already feel the effects of dehydration, but his extensive knowledge told him that he'd be dead long before he had a chance to fully dehydrate. Unless he could find a way to bypass or undo the effects of the spell he would aspirate long before then. So, looking on the bright side whatever this was meant things were looking up. Marisa While her hands will have some blisters from the heat of the burning rope the magical fire itself does not appear to burn flesh directly. The brightness of it distracts and ruins everyone’s eye adjustments to the dark. You hear echoing laughter in the distance. A few cries of witchcraft come from around you. A bad thing happens. Dr. Dangerous You are led to a small alcove. A flash of light from back in the tunnel gives enough light to show that your personal seedy-looking warden is your captor. He talks in a whisper. “Thanks for coming along with me there. Very cooperative. I’ll give you the choice, then: Am I going to cut your throat or just pinch your nose? Either way the Empress sends her regards.” He wiggles a dagger in one hand and repeats a pinching motion with his thumb and forefinger with the other. Avon Morgan Most of the Wardens up front are still rubbing their eyes. The Cleric Holvar seems unaffected, but the Wardens seem ready to cut down the Mage who just burned off her bindings as well as the rambling, murderhappy Dwarf. Holvar Rockfist Goblins, generally poorly armed, scavenged or crudely made weapons. They are a nuisance but their hit-and-run raids are not a threat within the mining colony’s borders though they seem to occupy other parts of the mining tunnels. Jarl Ozruk The Warden mutters to the other one. “He actually WANTS to face a bunch of goblins? Has to be a madman, or berzerker.” The other prisoners shrink back from the bloodthirsty dwarf. Dr. Dangerous The Doctor was momentarily confused, this all seemed like an awful lot of work to kill him. Regardless of the reason, however, he had no intention of dying. It was then that the shine from the assassins neck struck his eye. The fool! He must have taken the device without realizing what it was. No doubt he thought it a pretty little trinket, but the Hypnotic Emitter Periapt is anything but a simple decorative piece. Now the device he had constructed one afternoon on a whim had become the key to his survival. Acting quickly, he lurches forward, while at the same time jumping in order to allow him to bring his hands to the front. Dr. Dangerous The would-be assassin’s eyes glaze over and his body, while not falling over, becomes passively limp. Dr. Dangerous Dr. Dangerous first, uses the dagger the assassin dropped to the ground to cut his bindings. Then, his hands now free, he quickly searched the assassin and much to his surprise found several more of his devices as well as some other things he had been carrying before hand. Now satisfied that he's taken all there is to take, the doctor gets right down to work. He needs to solve the problem of his mouth having been sealed shut by magic. The flesh had been essentially fused, behind the wall of skin the rest of his jaw and its muscles were unaffected. He could go through with merely cutting himself a new mouth, but that lacked the elegance a genius mind like his own could provide. Rather, it would be better to quickly construct a directed arcane matrix disrupter. The anti-magic devices had been a useful weapon for his automatons against imperial war wizards and he should be able to reverse the effects of the spell. Rummaging through the person of the unresisting assassin, Dr. Dangerous quickly had the device constructed. It was still rather crude, and would only work once before the jury-rigged bypass blew the ether coils. However passing the machine might be, it would serve his purpose, after all he didn't have two mouths in need of de-fleshing. So, ready at last, he throws the switch. Dr. Dangerous The assassin’s eyes begin to refocus and he shakes his head as the device goes off. Exasperation shows clearly through even the odd cadence of his monotone voice. Seeing the thief get winged by an arrow, Avon decides that the wardens are clearly going to get themselves killed by arrows while standing around being useless if he doesn't do something about the remaining archers. A shooting match without cover is going be hazardous and take too long and the goblins are already preparing for a second volley, so Avon figures that the most expedient way to stop the archers is to close the distance by charging low to the ground and diving below any arrows they manage to get off. Having made his decision, Avon breaks into an extremely low, nigh horizontal sprint straight towards the goblin archers, with only his forward momentum keeping him from falling. Pain is nothing to him. Hack & Slash at 2d6+1=8. Damage at 1d6+1d4=4.

Jarl Ozruk HP: 25, Armor: 2, Load: 8/14, Damage: 1-10, XP: 3, Hold: 1 Jarl grins an intense, humorless grin. With both the goblin's hands trying to pry his fingers from its neck, that means he's dropped the axe! Jarl lifts up the gobber and quickly scans the floor. He then brings the goblin's head down Hack and Slash: 6 Brickabrack!

Marisa "Okay yeah. I'm tired of you now. Time Stop!" Marisa casts a spell to stop time around the three goblins. She's starting to get tired, not used to casting all these spells so quickly. Time Stop! (+INT): 2d6+2 8 I choose -1 ongoing to Int and draws attention to myself.

Maximilian HP 11/14, Armor 1, Damage d8, XP 2, Coin 10 "Son of a ..." Maximilian drops the spear and ducks back under cover, trying to get a better read on the situation. Discern Realities 2d6+1= 5 This is going to be a long fight at this rate. I'm guessing by four...three damage you mean I take 4 damage less my 1 armor?

Avon Morgan Caught up close with a bow, the goblin jumps on you and proceeds to tear off a piece of your robes, slowly. It seems everyone else is moving so much faster, especially the goblins behind the archers who are scurrying off into the darkness. No Damage but you’ve been caught in the Time Stop. Holvar Rockfist The goblin struck falls backward, its head going slightly farther. As expected, a spear jabs you from the side. You see Jarl struggling with the goblin that knocked you down. Three damage Jarl Ozruk The Goblin’s claws dig deeply into your exposed wrists as it makes what are presumably threats in its language. Vicious ones by the sounds of it and what might be a heavily accented dwarvish slur. Four damage.Your wrists are taking a beating today. Marisa Your spell hits the last goblin, and Avon as well. Will he accept the friendly fire as a mistake or will he turn against you? Either way half the wardens move ahead against the goblins and the rest begin to close in around you. How do you react? Maximilian The fight rages around you and hardly any sense or reason can be made of it. Yes. Four less armor.
