What? Rushed? Are we reading the same manga?

I think some of the fights feel like they could have been drawn out a little, but that's because we have 4+ pages of intense staring. I wouldn't say anything in Bleach is rushed though.

It may not feel rushed because Kubo's pacing is so slow that things happen at a geological timescale, but when you break it down into actual events that occur not much happened. Thats why it may take you an hour and a half to digest a volume of One Piece or something but you can blaze through an entire Bleach volume in like ten minutes.

Are Masaki and Ryuuken that closely related? I got more of an impression that she was from an entirely separate Quincy family, so they are probably related in the way that most royal families in europe, say, are but no more than that.

Maybe Quinces ascribe to the Targaryen method of keeping their blood pure.

I always assumed that Nemu was an artifical person. like a mod-soul fused into a gigai, or since she's a ghost, just an ambulatory mod soul of some kind.

Then again I thought that Ururu was something similar, since that would fit with Urahara and would give her a neat backstory and poo poo, but that would count on Kubo actually giving two fucks about his old characters and I guess she and Jinta have weird inexplicable powers for no reason and she occasionally acts kinda like a robot for no reason and hey remember Don kanonji? Man, I do. He was cool.

What I got from it was that Ichigo's hollow/shinigami powers are one and the same. He's been using his shinigami abilities all this time (he's been using his hollow powers to, remember). But he's been getting these powers not through understanding of himself and all that poo poo but because Yhwach basically gave them to him.

Hell, his inner hollow even outright SAID at one point "I am Zangetsu!"

Edit: As for his Father, Engetsu vs Zangetsu and their abilities, I'm guessing Shinigami don't actually have kids, we've never seen any, so its very possible that in such a situation Isshin passed on *his* same/similar abilities to Ichigo. I bet Isshin's bankai is very similar to Tensa Zangetsu. (we know that it's "hard on his body" and being injured would make it difficult or impossible to use)

I pretty much agree with treeboy's assessment of this. It's not that Ichigo never had shinigami powers, he pretty obviously did, but he was accessing them in a loving bizarre, unusual way and his inner Quincy was just jerking his chain this whole time. But Treeboy, shinigami do have kids, we've seen Byakuya's father/grandfather on occasion and he was a shinigami captain, though he is presumably dead now.

They are all japanese swords, here are some oddities by division, any I don't mention are just katanas.

1)Genryuusai, who hid his katana inside a walking staff.
2) Both Soi Fon and Yoruichi have wakizashi.
3) Gin had a wakizashi.
4) Unohana's sword is a little long, but it's a katana.
5) Everyone in 5th division is boring.
6) Also boring
7) Tetsuzaemon has a tanto.
8) Nanao has a tanto or wakasashi up her sleeve. Shunsui has both a katana and wakasashi even in sealed state. Lisa's sword is pretty long, like a nodachi.
9) Kensei has a wakasashi.
10) Hitsugaya's sword is pretty long, it is so long, in fact, it is taller than he is. This is mostly because he is a titchy dwarf, but still, it's kinda long.
11) Kenpachi's shikai is always in release state, because he is Kenpachi :black101: who knows what the gently caress it looks like normally. Ikkakku weilds the sheath of his zanpakutou too, and stores poo poo in the hilt, but it's still just a katana.
12)Urahara, whose zanpakutou is a cane, though back when he actually was a captain, it was just a normal sword.

So yeah. The only people who don't have katanas are Arrancar, and their swords are probably in the equivalent of permanent shikai release anyway so...

Walking on air is just a thing all shinigami can do, all the time. I think they mention during Soul Society that Shinigami are trained in four areas: Swordsmanship, Martial Arts, Kido and Footwork. The footwork, as far as we know, only contains Shunpo, it'd make sense it it also includes standing on air.

What gets me about these girls is that Kubo has literally done this same thing a million times already. Introduce the cadre of badguy girls. And they are always the same loving people! There is always Cheery, Pedobait, Double D's and the Haughty One. I get that Shounen manga have nice archetypes that show up all the time rather than actual characters, but reusing the same ones all the time in the same configuration in the same arc in the same manga is a little obvious.

the Sternritter honestly feel like self parody (of the Arrancar/Espada, mostly) but I doubt Kubo is self aware enough for that.

Speaking of, I know it's filler, so we can't blame Kubo on this one, but the Bount arc starts off pretty much identically to Chapter Black. there is a small team of "bad guys" who the heros fight, who all have unique, conditional style powers, and the it turns out those dudes aren't the bad guys at all. They were just hired by the main character's mentor (Genkai, Urahara) to prepare them for the REAL badguys of the arc (the Bount, Shisui's dudes).

The difference being that Chapter Black was loving awesome and the Bount arc sort of blew. Well, in the timeframe it was released it did anyway. On average it probably fares a whole lot better now we have more Bleach to compare it to.

I think they just age really slowly. Byakuya was, what, 15ish in Turn Back the Pendulum and he's probably the equivalent of mid twenties now? We saw that Yamamoto was a young(er) man once a thousand years ago and his Lietenant too. Kenpachi was a kid, Gin, Rukia, Renji etc were all youngsters. Yachiru was a baby.

Hitsuagya doesn't seem to have aged much, but to be fair he's only been in the Gotei 13 since around the time Ichigo was born. If Byakuya has aged maybe 10 years in a hundred, the entire time Hitsugaya has been with the Gotei 13 is like 2 years of aging, tops.

The only ones who don't seem to have aged AT ALL are maybe the Visored and the Royal guard. It's harder to get a fix on how old Squad Zero were supposed to be before they "retired", but the guy who created Zanpakutou is certainly older or around the same age as Yamamoto for sure. But I'm willing to write both of those cases off as weird hollow fuckery and Spirit King bullshit respectively. Maybe Urahara and Yoruichi, but they were adults before Aizen pulled his bullshit, so it's harder to get a read on how they aged due to Anime.
