DuckTales Remastered is in development at WayForward Technologies, Capcom announced today during its "World of Capcom" panel at PAX East 2013.

It will launch this summer for $14.99 on PlayStation Network, 1200 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live Arcade and $15 on the Wii U eShop.

The character sprites are hand-drawn, while the world will exist in 3D. Disney's authentic voice actors will lend their talents to the game. Capcom also showed a trailer at the panel, complete with the DuckTales theme song lyrics for singing along, that you can watch below.. The game's original 8-bit songs will be remastered for the game by WayForward's Jake Kaufman, and new elements include a tutorial; Scrooge's Money Bin, which you can jump into; and a museum.

"We're literally pouring our heart and soul into this title," said Capcom's Rey Jimenez. "It's going to play just like you remember."

HD remaster of the original NES Duck Tales game announced as PAX East. Yay! I loved his game and played it endlessly.

EDIT: poo poo. Could a mod correct the title to Remastered please?

I got this title for free due to my proximity to an idiot who wanted to save $5 on an avatar by having someone else spend $9.95 instead.

Holy poo poo. This is both unexpected and completely, utterly amazing. And that trailer. Seriously, so awesome.

Go back and play Ducktales now, that game still owns. It's a bit short and easy, but it's so mechanically satisfying and the level design is great. And then there's the music, of course.

I'm a bit skeptical based on that trailer, though. I think the backgrounds are ugly as hell and aside from Transylvania (which is way too dark), it looks like they only showed new stages. I'm curious to see more and the characters do look cool in a Paper Mario sort of way.

In any case, good one Disney for recognizing their video game legacy and giving the go-ahead!

No words for how excited I am.

Just believe me when I say I am at 10 out of 10 levels of excitement. Possibly 11.

And this is WayForward making this. I loved Double Dragon NEON.

Seeing as how it's due out in the Summer, I doubt there's much time to do so.

It appears as if they're redesigning the stages to make it even more metroidvania-esque? Transylvania now has a minecart section. I hope they allow you to play the old ones as well!

Shut up and take my money!

This is exciting news, but I'm a little skeptical about the idea of level redesigns. While a lot of "classic" games don't really hold up 20+ years later, Duck Tales is an incredibly well executed platformer, and Capcom has a somewhat spotty record when it comes to updating classics in their back catalog.

Was Duck Tales 2 any good? I can't for the life of me remember if I liked it. (Which is not a good sign.)

It was really just more of the same, which you'd think would be great, but it just somehow didn't have the same charm to it.

The thing to remember is that this is a WayForward game, and WayForward knows 2D games. I'm a little hesitant for any level changes, as well, but if anyone can do it it's WF.

Because all fucking hell is going to break loose

Duck Tales on NES was SO loving GOOD as a kid. I played it a few years ago as a ROM and was happy to see that it still played as good as I remembered. That trailer just hit me with a nostalgia rush so hard that I almost fell over (mainly due to the theme song). WOO HOO

I've just had a whole bunch of flashbacks to when I was a kid. I haven't played a Disney themed game in years, but I know for a fact that back then they were really good at it. Quackshot and World of Illusion are 2 of my favourite games from that era, and they're still imaginative and fun as hell today.

You have to remember that there are two sides of capcom; Capcom US who stand for all that is good (and who probably noticed the MM X SF game and made a go for it), and Capcom JP who were brought onto this earth to reap horrible and never-ending vengeance for Minkind's sins (and told Ninja Theory to go gently caress the Devil May Cry formula up some more during the creation of DmC amoungst other acts of spite upon all that hold joy).

I was just playing that last week, actually. Going in fresh as an adult, it sure showed that the game was built on the Mega Man engine. It was all right. Not sure if I'll spring for this, unless they significantly add to the original (note the very different minecart section in the video).

Holy poo poo, I played this thing to death when I was 10. I even remember how to get one of the lifebar extensions. Chances are I can still beat it in under an hour but I might pick it up anyway. Capcom's Disney-licensed games were always a cut above the usual merchandising shovelware, and with WayForward I think the title is in good hands.

The ability to swim in Scrooge's money bin is probably they best thing the announced so far. Well, maybe the fact that Jake "Virt" Kaufman is doing the soundtrack might top that.

And the two Capcom guys saying "We might do Rescue Rangers and Darkwing Duck if this sells well" is just plain teasing. Jerks.

My CoX will forever blast giant streams of liquid!

The combination of the new hand-drawn art (which actually looks good, and appropriately animated instead of the weird stuff games typically do when they switch over to that in remakes), the original VAs, and it being more than just slapping a new coat of paint over the original has me very interested in this. Ducktales was a big ol' part of my childhood, both the cartoon and the games, and this seems like it'll be pretty fun.

If only it were coming out on PC and 3DS though... I don't have a console right now other than the Wii, so unless it hits one of those I guess I'm out of duckluck. The way it's set up, though, with the 3D backgrounds and 2D foreground, looks very 3D friendly. I wonder if they'll bring it to 3DS later on.

I'm not super on board with it but only because Capcom's entire brand anymore seems to be baiting people with nostalgia. I don't have an actual problem with the games themselves, Mega Man 9 was fun and Wayforward is a good developer. But the mere concept of "REMEMBER A THING FROM YOUR CHILDHOOD??" doesn't get me shouting about the status of my genitalia. Whether it's this or a remake of Goof Troop or whatever the gently caress.
