Dead Rising 2: Off The Record is an action/horror game for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, made by Capcom Vancouver (formally Blue Castle Games, creators of Dead Rising 2). It's basically a re-telling of the original Dead Rising 2 only if Frank West of the first Dead Rising, was the main protagonist for the series of events that happen in Fortune City, instead of Chuck Greene.

Hey, so why this instead of the original Dead Rising 2?

Mainly, because I like this one more.

Dead Rising 2:OTR added more content to the original game, fixed a few issues, and is generally just more fun. Here's just a short summary of the stuff they added: the Camera system from the first Dead Rising (adding more ways to get PP), a new theme park based area called Uranus Zone, more combo weapons, more missions and bosses (not that many but enough to add a bit of variety), a "slightly" new story, and Sandbox Mode (essentially, free roaming zombie killing with no time limit, and some extra challenges to earn more cash for the main game, as well as unlock a special costume for completing them all).

So ya, and I just like Frank West more, not saying that I don't like Chuck Greene.

I get why you would want to do this then, so how is this going to work?

This is going to be a 100% LP.

I'm guessing some of you have watched OatmealRaisin's LP of the first Dead Rising, where he went and rescued all of the survivors and did the true ending. I will also be attempting to do this for my playthrough (even though there really isn't a point in rescuing them all in this game) of the game, just to show off some of the ups and downs of the survivors.

I'll also be showing off all the unlockable and DLC costumes (except for the Chuck Greene outfit, because my original DR2 game is on a different system), as well as trying to show off all of the combo weapons the game has to offer.

There will also be intermissions every few videos of the main game playthrough where I will be showing off the areas throughout the game, since they won't normally be seen in detail.

The commentary for this LP will just be myself, but if anyone who happens to have any Dead Rising experience and would like to lend a hand (and I can hopefully get the audio working), would be welcome to help out. Also, once we get to Sandbox Mode after the main game is done, I'd like to be able to show the Co-op challenges (and also because I haven't done them myself), so if anyone wants to volunteer for that as well, please send me a PM.

Also, please no spoilers until the events or people in question show up in the playthrough. I really enjoy the story and would hope people can experience it as well through this LP.

I'm going to just go and apologize right off the bat here for some of the audio. I have asthma as well as a bit of a stuttering problem, and I have tried my best to get rid of most of it, but for the actual long moments of talking, I can't really find a way to take it out without it just sounding really weird. This is this best I can do audio-wise without it basically becoming "And F-f-f-f-f-frank West.." etcera etcera. I'll try my best to get rid of it as the videos go on, but if you are wondering about some of the audio, this is pretty much the reason.

Also for audience participation for this LP, I'm going to be taking requests(sort of) for the combo weapons/costumes I will be using in some of the upcoming updates. I'll try to keep everything close to the areas where they can be found in, but if you see anything in the main game videos or intermission videos that you would like to see me use more, just let me know.

Anyways, for the first combo weapon selection we have:

Tenderizers, which are a combination of MMA Gloves and a Box of Nails
Knife Gloves, which are a combination of a Bowie Knife and Boxing Gloves
Laser Sword, which is a combination of Gems and a Flashlight

Also, is there anyone who would like to co-commentate the intermission video of Royal Flush Plaza with me? Someone with some Dead Rising experience, but either or is ok. I can commentate the video myself, but I would personally like to add a bit more flair to these intermission videos.

I didn't hear a problem with your audio in your Intro or other test video at least not in terms of speech. Levels seem fine also so I think you're okay. I really liked what I played of the original DR2 so I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your LP play out. Also, is it just me or does Frank look more like Dan Aykroyd than he did in the first game?

Do you have a set schedule in mind for video frequency? Also, a minor nitpick but the red text in your "Part 1" image is a bit too hard to read. You may want to fiddle with it or dull down the background to make it a bit more readable.

e: For audience participation, the Knife Gloves are always fun. They were my staple weapon throughout most of the game given that they shred just about everything and you can get them right off the bat, making them the perfect combo for new players.

SonicDragon
Mar 4, 2013

Thanks, like I said, I'm trying to fix it up a bit so it's not as notice-able, as for the Dan Aykroyd thing, I can see it. I think it might be because they tried to give him a more "fallen from fame" thing this time around, so he still dresses like he does from the first game, but he is still trying to look like how he did before he dropped out of the spotlight.

For video frequency, Part 2 should be up sometime today or tomorrow, and Part 3 is already done and uploaded(since it was one of my test videos), so just a bit of text needs to be changed there. I also have the intermission video done(it is most likely going to be 2 videos because I show off all of Royal Flush Plaza, as well as show off some of the items and outfits there.

And, I'm going to be trying my best for 2 videos or so a week, but at the least, probably 1 a week.

Can we vote on Franks clothes too? The cutscenes become 10x funnier when you're wearing a floral print dress, army boots and Groucho Marx glasses.

Good opening video by the way, audio-wise it sounded fine to me.

Of course, I just wanted the first few videos to have default Frank, since the story is just starting and all. Just don't go and suggest any spoiler-y outfits, like some of the unlockable costumes until they show up in the playthrough. And in my Royal Flush Plaza intermission, I go and show off almost every outfit in that mall, so there will be a bunch for people to choose from once that goes up(wanna see if I can get a co-commentator for that one, but if I can't I'll just go and do it myself).

The Knife Gloves are absolutely fantastic and I always carry no less than 3 sets.

I also like this version of the game far better, by the way. Not having the ability to take pictures is just sad and wastes 300% of the game's comedy potential. I've played and finished both, but OTR is the one I keep coming back to. My only gripe is the removal/substitution of some characters I liked from vanilla DR2.

I assume the intermissions are going to be "non-canon", because there's some pretty strict time limits on stuff, right?

God I need to go back and play this over again right now, because of this thread. Now where's my PS3 controller...?

SonicDragon
Mar 4, 2013

Wow, a lot of votes so far for the knife gloves. Was really expecting the laser sword to be leading the way. And yes, I'm going to be doing the intermissions in Sandbox Mode because it doesn't have the time limit or other pop-ups coming up, which makes it a lot easier to show everything off.

Also, about the time limits, I really hope this goes better than some of my test playthroughs I did before I started recording the videos, because something coming up probably in one of the next few videos made me lose a few survivors because it took so long.

It was the drat taming of Snowflake. The stupid tiger didn't want to eat the steaks I tossed at it no matter how hard I tried, and it made me lose a few people because of it.

I never got a chance to play OTR, but if I remember correctly the laser sword in DR2 was obscenly powerful for how early you could get it. So my vote goes to knife gloves.

It seems like this one is the less strict of the three games. Dead Rising 1 was pretty easy going up until about day 2, when it turned into a clusterfuck if you were going for a perfect run, simply because there was so much poo poo to do and the survivor rescues were not easy, nor were the survivors especially helpful. So pretty much Day 2 on it was a running gunfight knife-fight mini-chainsaw killdozer, interspersed with the occasional restart because you forgot to stop a mutiny or one of the survivors decided to go hug several enemies in a row.

Dead Rising 2 wasn't as strict, but it was a lot harder to do the perfect run without being level 50 and possibly abusing the DLC content because of zombies and clusters of rescue quests and bosses. So if you were going for the perfect run there, there were a lot of fun moments where you had to choose between saving survivors now and having to do a boss fight with maybe a minute or two on the clock, or bringing your survivors to the boss fight and hoping they don't get butchered.

EDIT: I like the Tenderizers, simply because getting the actual combo card for them is pretty easy and they last for a long while. You don't even have to leave the Royal Flush Plaza to get them. Plus they're very nice for crowd work and you aren't as liable to murder a survivor with them. Knife Gloves are the local overpowered weapon of choice, but the laser sword is pretty nice for general work on crowds.

Oh god. THAT bit. Yes. I hated that beyond all reason. I eventually figured out a way to do it, but not before like... 12+ reloads and 4 hours of time spent trying.

One thing about Sandbox Mode is that you can randomly happen upon survivors and other people from the main story wandering around in it, so you might need to be careful not to expose any of them ahead of time. I know I get the "guy outside the toilets with the cart" (if you know who I mean) popping up all the time.

For that bit, it helps if instead of tossing the steaks, you just lay them down like landmines and wait by the door to that little employee hallway. Just put them like six to ten feet from Frank and you'll be good.

Ya, pretty much.

I think I remember hearing somewhere that when Capcom Vancouver was developing this game, that they were going to try make it as fun of an experience as possible and tone down on some of the crazy harder stuff. Which is why I guess most of the achievements/trophies in this game are basically either story or zombie kills/sandbox mode based, instead of survivor based. Though, there is a really stupid achievement/trophy, which I talk about for a sec in Part 3, where you have to get a certain survivor(Denyce from Roy's Mart), to essentially the end game(the boss fight with Sgt. Boykin).

And I did try that, the game just hated me, I guess.

I was lucky enough to not have any of that happen during my recording of the Royal Flush Plaza intermission. If they happen in any of the other ones, I'll just keep on trying until I get a recording without any spawns.

I think you should do that Achievement as a bonus video after the game. It's so evilly difficult.

Survivors benefit from having firearms. They get infinite ammo and are pretty accurate, even with the dinky handgun. I've watched a full group of survivors handle even late game zombie mobs with just handguns.

Some parts of the game are just loud, and I'm having a tough time trying to find a good middle ground, where my voice doesn't overpower the game's audio or vice-versa, but I'm hoping to fix this in upcoming updates.

Also, the intermission episodes are on their way, probably within the next day or so.

You should look in to Audacity, mostly the AutoDuck feature (http://manual.audacityteam.org/inde...title=Auto_Duck). It'll compare the two audio tracks (your commentary as one and the game's as another) and you can lower the game audio slightly whenever you speak.

Basically, every weapon has 2 kinds of attacks(some get 3, the third being an aerial attack), a normal attack and a charged up attack. The Defiler's normal attack is a sort-of golfer's swing, which counts as blunt, its aerial attack is a downwards smash, which counts as blunt, and its charged attack is a horizontal swing, which uses the axes so bladed, and when charged long enough, the horizontal swing turns into a whirlwind attack.

For Ninja, you pass by zombies undetected, as well as having new sword attacks.
