I should give up my desire to always play as Reimu in these games. Apparently Sanae is the best in LoLK and Marisa's the best in DDC?

All I know about Sanae in LoLK is that she makes Stage 4 hell. Everything afterwards was easier than with Reisen though. You should use Sanae anyway, so that she can fulfil her dream of flying through space.

I like Reisen since you don't have to think about when to bomb any more, you just spam that poo poo. Though if you actually have discipline it's probably not as big an advantage.

For DDC I think it was close between Sakuya A and Marisa B being the best shot types. Marisa is about exploiting the bomb and life gain system to the max and really long bomb invincibility. Sakuya pretty much outclasses Reimu in every way. Homing and high focus damage while focused and a wide spread shot while unfocused. Her knife explosions bug out the game a bit and slow down boss movement. And her bomb is a lot like Reisen except only 1 extra life for a few seconds. But if you don't actually get hit in those few seconds you get 3 bomb pieces back.

Reimu A is the only good choice in SA, so I don't see how that barely counts. Who was the best in TD? I think general consensus is Youmu but I am bad at using her, and Reimu has been my best in that game.

Marisa is the worst in TD, DDC, and LoLK because holy crap ZUN stop using those exploding missiles already, they sound awful and I can't even tell if they're doing more damage when I focus.

Marisa was definitely pretty okay in TD. I used exclusively Sanae at first, and after finally switching over to Marisa it was kind of amazing how much simpler everything became. Moral being that Sanae is bad.

CLOWNPIECE Finally got around to playing LoLK. Game felt manageable until Clownpiece showed up and completely brickwalled me. Also, Reimu seems very weak, her damage output is so low that it takes forever to kill anything. Everything died at a much more reasonable pace once I switched to Marisa.

You should use Sanae if you want to experience true power. Except during stage 4. But for the most part frogs and snakes will destroy your enemies.

It's weird tracking Reimu's progress power-wise through the games. She either does loads of damage and that makes her pretty drat good (EoSD, SA Reimu A, MoF) or she's got severe power issues that make her borderline unplayable (SA Reimu C, UFO, DDC Reimu B). There doesn't seem to be any middleground of mediocrity, even if she's not always the top tier character choice.
