Have just recently discovered these guys, who formed in the city in which I now reside (Brisbane, Australia). Violent Soho quote:Violent Soho are an Australian rock band that was formed in 2004 in the Brisbane suburb of Mansfield, Queensland. The band consists of Luke Boerdam on guitar/vocals, James Tidswell on guitar/vocals, Luke Henery on bass and Michael Richards on drums. Their sound has often been likened to the alternative rock music of the 1990s,[1] with bands such as The Pixies, Mudhoney and Nirvana cited. The band's third studio album, Hungry Ghost, was certified "gold" in Australia in September 2014. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violent_Soho See also: http://www.violentsoho.com/ They were initially quite a local band, however they've now gained some national and international success. That said, they still aren't very well known. Here are my favourite songs from their latest album: - "Dope Calypso": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6LM-5-oC-k - "Saramona Said": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XvWcYTj6dc

Playboy Manbaby is a fantastic Ska Punk band on the rise in Phoenix, AZ. Real solid stuff, and it has a bit of a garage flare, to boot. Worth checking out their Bandcamp, specifically the mixtape OBSESSIVE REPULSIVE. You can also get all their stuff on cassette, if you want, because for some reason they are totally entranced by them.

A couple of Chicago punk / post-hardcore / hardcore bands that I've seen a bunch of times and put on a great show Fake Limbs: http://fakelimbs.bandcamp.com/ (recording is kinda ehhh but live they are awesome if you like a singer getting in your face) Oozing Wound: http://oozingwound.bandcamp.com/album/vape-and-pillage (really good hardcore) Bear Claw: http://bearclaw.bandcamp.com/album/refuse-this-gift (two bassists, one drummer. Saw them open for Shellac and they are loud as hell) Meatwave: http://meatwavechicago.bandcamp.com/ (probably the best recording quality next to Oozing Wound; also incredibly good) Hot Diggity! fucked around with this message at 23:01 on Jan 4, 2015 |

The facebook group Twin Cities Hardcore gets most of the shows posted on it as well. The Hexagon, Memory Lanes, and the Triple Rock are where most of the local venue shows are, so check their calenders. Memory Lanes has some sort of metal/punk show every monday.

As my Screenname betrays my favorite musical Genre let's open with that. Something To Do is one of the longest lived Ska bands in Wisconsin. They're really great dudes that are always down to hang and will gladly jump on a show last minute if you need it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeyFBSOWAfE And There's I Voted For Kodos - The Band that got me into Ska. They're in limbo, popping in and out of the scene from an indefinite hiatus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFucmBndQT4 Car Full of Midgets was another butt-buddy band when I was booking shows and the scene was more active. They split due to college reasons. I've been slacking and haven't caught The 4 Asprin Morning live yet, but I've hung with them at shows they didn't play and they're super cool dudes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cApHkAHxoEs Then there's Crappy Dracula...Who play really fun grimy surf-rock while never taking themselves too seriously. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDgjGKDicrY *Note - Now playing shows under the name "Crappy Dracula 2" and playing with David Liebe-Hart at the Borg Ward this week. For those of you are into heavier, sludgier pursuits Milwaukee is home to Northless, which has gotten some pretty good press over the years. The shows are always super loud and chill. If you doubt me on the loud watch the video and take note of the floor tom rippling water. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P19vnmzx7BQ I'd be a Mega lovely person if I didn't plug my best friend's bands Slob Donovan and Milorganaut while I'm at it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vGfg-mb9go https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tk1-y9rn6Ic There was also Mechanical Kids - Who were on track to be pretty big for a while...Their frontman Seann is a pretty rad dude with whom I share an ex-girlfriend- - whom this song is about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JE6VOGHK5uM They reformed as The Royal when their record deal fell through due to Universal Motown ending. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xY2U2dFb5y8 Seann has also done a track with Bad Boy Bill and Steve Smooth - Which is one of the Perks that comes with working in the industry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wch5fqWgJcY Their guitarist also DJs - I haven't followed him much but he's a rad dude and has been getting around opening for some big names. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2jzUG9C3EE That's an older video so I'm not sure how reflective it is of his current stuff. They can be seen in this music video with a local party-rapper by the name of Chubz - Not my scene but good at what he does. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6j58Pzjnc0 There's a lot more - But that's what I'll drop on you for tonight. If you're curious as to where most of this goes down the coolest DIY venue in town is called The Borg Ward - The afformentioned best friend records just about every show that goes through there and plenty of other local shows on this youtube channel.

My favorite Nashville band is Fletcher, Bell, & Ward. They're a singer-songwriter trio that are kinda Crosby, Stills, & Nash-meets-the-Eagles. They did a thing where they wrote, recorded, and released a new song every week for a year on their YouTube channel. They're currently the "Local Artist of the Week" on Lightning 100, and are in a contest to to play Pilgrimage Fest in September. If anyone is local, they will be playing Soulshine Friday night at 7 for the Lightning 100 thing and are playing Saturday night at The Listening Room before the fireworks go off. Their dates are on their website and Facebook. Website YouTube Soundcloud iTunes Spotify EDIT: Fixed Youtube link PleasusChrist fucked around with this message at 14:25 on Jul 1, 2015 |

There's a band out of Dallas that you guys might want to keep an eye on. THE ORANGE does what they call "neo-psych rock" -- which to me sounds like a blend of bands like The Dandy Warhols, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Tame Impala, and Oasis. Speaking of The Dandy Warhols, according to THE ORANGE's site apparently the lead singer of that group Courtney Taylor-Taylor has agreed to remix THE ORANGE's new album. There was some rumblings about this band getting signed back in 2008 or 09 when they released their first EP, but now that they have a full length LP out I think they have a real chance of going big. Unless they gently caress it up like a lot of local music seems to do in Dallas. But that's a whole different story...
