You know I vaguely remember a terrible made for tv movie about Waco. The only thing about it that lingers in my memory are the harumph-y looks on the tv actor's faces as David Koresh kept taking their wives and daughters to his love chambers. As if to say "look I know this is the one true cult and he's the chosen one but that CAN'T be right that he gets to have sex with all these women."

Okay I ask honestly, what am I missing here? It's two pictures, of the same woman, one being skewed but still clearly the same original picture. What are they trying to say? I'm not from the US so Sandy Hook has mainly just been 'another tragic school shooting' in my mind. I feel like I'm missing something terribly important here.

And to contribute, my only American friend just shared:

She is pro 2A and I agree with the amendment and all, but it honestly feels like a gut-punch she would re-post that. It's so polarized, all I could comment with was 'really?'

I got one that's basically rapeculturechecklist.txt

For the record, the original article posted was this, which is a lovely article that says "North America doesn't have a 'rape culture' because we don't have public gang rapes like in Egypt and India, and also sexual morals were so much better back when I was young and everyone was just really repressed."

Men as animals ("sharks") who can't control their sexual urges? Check.
Going to a bar is inherently dangerous and women should therefore be careful at all times, or only enjoy themselves in ways sanctioned by me, a man? Check.
Having sex with girls without raping them is too hard because you need 'game'? Check.
Someone who's wasted at 2 AM is fair game for sex because they probably went to the bar to get laid, and won't be making sound judgements? Check.
Everyone who goes to bars goes there with the specific intention of having sex? Check.

Jesus Christ.

FOX hosed up and accidentally used the same photo twice. so False Flag crazies are using this as evidence that Sandy Hook and Boston was planned and executed by the government in order to gain popular support for legislation that reduces civil liberties.

Maybe point out that the people who perpetrated both crimes were blamed, but the issue at hand is access- the bomber made his own bombs since access to them is restricted, but the people who commit shootings do so with guns they either bought legally or stole from someone who did.

I was going to share some facebook idiocy of my own, but the person who shared the stuff I was going to show took it all down. She has a background as a pharmacy student, but in her 6th and final year, I guess she started dating some guy who is very into psychedelic drugs and is anti-vac and anti-GMO (to a point beyond reason), and despite her background in sciences, she just dove right in and starting sharing anti-vac pictures and the like. This is the only really objectionable thing left on her page that isn't either some pro-psychedelic thing (which isn't really all that stupid, just a little obnoxious) is this:

It starts off fairly accurate, but the end of it is misleading. There are GMO crops that have enhanced nutrition (golden rice, for example), and there are certainly crops that have been developed to withstand drought and increase yield, although the efficacy of these crops may or may not be effective depending on what studies you look at, so it's really not a clear-cut issue. It just kind of bugs me that someone 6 years into a phd program in the health sciences field would share this kind of thing on facebook.

Also, the group that she follows that she shared it from just shared this an hour or so ago:
