How much sandboxy loving around is there to do anyway? Are you pressed to do the main storyline or can you just dick around surviving for the sake of itself?

It looks like after the tutorial things go very sandbox. The plot parts are similar to GTA in that they can be ignored for the most part.

I hope so. I have Skyrim for my shenanigans, but a more survivalist take on the sandbox would be great. Kind of annoyed I'm doing an evening shift tomorrow that starts about an hour after Dead State goes live though, oh well. :saddowns:

Oh man, turns out the game doesn't pause when you're checking your map or journal. You know you always find the bloodied, tattered remains of someone's diary in these settings? That would be me. :laffo:

Edit: For anyone that knows, does this game make your first character based on what your XBL avatar looks like? If so that's awesome.

Nah, Marcus is one of the few pre-defined dudes I think.

Got to go to work now, but I just finished what I assume is the tutorial and it's shaping up to be a very addictive experience. I see an all-nighter approaching after my shift. :haw:

Does anyone have a gif of the animation where two groups of zombies rip you into halves? :v:

Also, uh, anyone had luck with fast looting? I keep dropping a can and that seems to catch the attention of five thousand undead in a ten mile radius.

This game is making GBS threads constant missions at me why do I have so much content to do :byodood:

Has anyone written up a decent info dump for outposts, by the way? I'm still confused as to what they're actually doing.

Cars take a bit longer to repair IIRC.

As for weapon specialisation you have to choose a weapon type at a certain level (4 Fighting, I think?) and you'll then unlock an experience bar for that. Near as I can tell blunt weapons knock stuff down, edged weapons chopheads off and heavy weapons just murder the poo poo out of everything. :black101:

Just run missions, destroy hordes and infestations, etc. I've noticed it's generally quite a slow process until you can get missions from them directly.

Also, is a time limit explicitly stated for missions that have one? Getting tired of Lilly whining at me.

The incidental dialogue is fantastic. Just had a companion get really confused and ask if the zombies I was mauling bullied me in High School. :v:

One problem I have in this game is that it doesn't really explain anything to you but the basics. I have a advice hint that says build a sleeping area but nothing else on how to do it.

Yeah, the game doesn't actively mislead you but it's not exactly intuitive a lot of the time. Its tutorial seems really out of whack with when you actually have features available to you - I've only just had a combat mission explaining stamina and so on despite already maxing out several combat abilities. :psyduck:

I'm getting into a routine nonetheless. Currently sweeping the first little cluster of streets before I relocate from the Church, and getting what supplies I can from nearby outposts. Munitions and Construction Materials are a bit of an issue from me at the moment - I have an excess of food and medicine but the other two feel like they're in short supply.

Anyway, REALLY getting into this but the framerate issues and relative ease I'm having with survival are starting to nag at me. Still going to double down if/when a PC port comes though - higher resolution and potential mods would be more than the extra cash, even if I only used an old excess of points for the XBLA one.

Yeah, I'm waiting for the patch before I play again. It's a fantastic game but constant morale loss from huge groups of infestations on the outskirts of the map are annoying me.

How's the PC framerate? That was my main issue with the XBOx version, it was all over the place and barely felt like it was ever over 25.
