I've admitted to myself that playing electronic kits just doesn't do it for me. I know it may sound weird, but the feel of the drums and cymbals was part of the rush for me. Being able to raise your foot just so, and then hit the hi-hat at just the right angle to get a certain sound... I can't do that on a current kit.

I would think most modern cymbal stands would be fine. Unless you are mounting a 22" China or something, then you'll need something heavy duty. If if its just a 16" crash then anything should do.

As long as it's not moving around or collapsing, who cares. I do remember auditioning for a band and the singer/guitarist called me out for using some Pearl stands with my Yamaha kit. I guess he cared.

LOL these people still exist? That was more of an 80s thing where everyone was obsessed with getting whatever their musical heroes endorsed at the time. I can assure you that the name brand on your stand will not have any effect on the sound of your playing.

I used to keep Dixon hardware around as spares because they were cheap and worked in a pinch.

For about a year, I had a kit in this configuration. I got rid of them because you try and haul all that around in a Chevy S10.

I will say that Pearl hardware was fantastic back then.

I don't think double pedals existed, at least in their current form, in the 80s. I got my first DW5000 double pedal in late '91.

And yes, power toms were loud as hell. Remember the 80s also meant 100w Marshall stacks and 4x12 Ampeg cabinets. poo poo was loud.

My only concern is how you are sitting at the desk. Try to match it as best you can. Not only for practice but also to reduce injuring yourself.

For the snare, what about the opposite side of the throw off? Can you lower them there?

Tbh, I went to the store for a used guitar stand and ended up coming home with the drum set. It was just what I needed and I had the funds so eh, gently caress it.

My dad was a musician his whole life and passed away in April so I got some of his old equipment. I just got carpeting put in the basement 2 weeks ago and am in the process of creating a music room. I might have to do some sound proofing. Today, as well as my pad/book, a little bluetooth interface came in so I can hook it up to my dad's Roland KC-550 keyboard amp and play along with tunes through there instead of buying a new speaker. Works great and was only $24. :)

Have a look at this option for quieter drums https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LV468RH--zildjian-quiet-pack-low-volume-accessory-package-l80-cymbals-and-remo-silentstroke-heads

I have a gear question. I've got a bit of a Frankenstein electronic kit with Roland cymbals. How do I keep them from spinning when I hit them? Right now they are just on a standard boom arm with a felt and wing nut. Is there something that would clamp them down a bit? They spin now and the cord gets all tangled and distracts me.

My search skills are failing me.

Is there a such thing as a "generic" or universal cymbal for an eKit? Like just a basic Roland pad or something?

Have you heard of the Bakersfield Sound? Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, and more recently Dwight Yoakam.

Buck Owens is considered the pioneer of this form of "non-Nashville" country music from the mid to late 60s. Buck used the same backing band on the road and in studio so their sound was tight. Willie Cantu was the drummer for Buck and was a big contributor to the sound. He plays more rock/heavy jazz and uses accents instead of just boom-tap-boom-tap

Here they are playing live for a TV taping.

That's how most people build up their non dominant leg. However I would ask your Dr because you are very likely to put additional weight on your right leg since your left is weaker, and that could effect your healing.

One trick I've seen a lot lately to take some of the extraneous ring out of your toms without using moon gels is dropping some cotton balls into your drums. Matt Garstka does it at least.

And if all you have is tape, never use duct tape for muffling. Gaffers tape is what you want. The glue on duct tape will stick to your heads for life.

One on hand I love wireless eDrums, on the other I'm recalling all the arguing/yelling/screaming/tantrums thrown by guitar players when they discuss wired vs wireless.

For me personally, I'm not happy until hitting a cymbal feels like hitting a cymbal.

I see it as a concept kit. I have a Pearl ePro, which lots of churches used, but nothing really came out of it other than the evolution of the RedBox unit. I paid $2000 used and it that includes a pretty good sized rack (lol)

I've had to Frankenstein it a bit, but I guess maybe that's good it can expand. I've never tried it with normal heads but I bet it sounds like crap. I don't think I would record anything other than a demo on these. They are ok jamming or playing to a small crowd. They are bulky and feature limited but they look nice. Much better if you just bypass the RedBox sounds and go direct in to Garage Band. Part of me wants to keep them and really just experiment by adding pads and pedals where I can. That rack is pretty solid and has some real estate.

You could try for an Alesis brain unit, which are usually on the low end. Once you MIDI/USB out to your laptop then you can get any sound you want.

The cables should be standard and you can likely get them from monoprice or sweetwater. For stands just scour pawn shops and craigslist, I doubt you'll need much.

It's pretty impressive though, and looks pretty weird because it's just hands in air.

When I was in music school, one of the professors said a piano was technically a percussion instrument because the strings have to be stuck to make sounds.

Reggae tends to be slower and syncopated, the snare on beat 3 just seems to help define the music. Sort of like the ride cymbal patters in Jazz. Reggae is younger than Rock by about 10-15 years so it may also have been done that way just to be different.

There's a few YT videos on the snare sound. I'm not sure about the recording you heard (live or studio), but a two ply head cranked really tight would give a higher, punchier sound. Reggae drummers use the rim quite a bit so you it could also be a combo on snare/rim shot. I figure a regular snare is easier to find and in live situation would project more than a piccolo. At least in the early 80s which was when Marley recorded.
