That's the way the bee bumbles.
Black Cat
Affiliation: Solo d10; PP: 1; Stress: none

The brown haired, bespectacled, woman in pinstriped black office wear had been sitting in the lobby for hours, just as she had done every morning for the past week. It had been more than a bit difficult getting into the building today, what with the mob, but Stark security were doing a fantastic job escorting personnel in and out. And that's exactly what Jeanine Marlow, Stark industries newest accounting secretary, was counting on. It was always a lot easier to get into places with an invitation, even if it was meant for someone else.

She'd been keeping a close eye on the security staff in the lobby every morning, while she ate her breakfast. Jeanine liked to arrive for work as early as possible, to help her "acclimate to the work environment," she'd explained to anyone who asked. After two days, they stopped bothering her.

Watching the guards' movements, and noting their patterns, she was relieved for the distraction the protest was creating. She'd need to get at their main terminal in the security room down the hall, gain access to the system, and covertly grant herself security permissions for the 11th floor labs. The passive electronic security measures would only be a problem so long as Jeanine wasn't authorized to be there. Stark had designed his security with computers and hackers in mind. The human element was always his weak point.

Speaking of which, and right on cue, the weakest of human elements took his seat at the lobby security desk. Hector Luntz, a sweet, moderately overweight, balding man, with an interest in 70's cop shows rivaled only by Jeanine's. She'd spent plenty of time chatting with him the past few days, building up a nice rapport, dropping the occasional subtle flirtation, and she could tell the poor man was desperately interested in her. Exactly as she'd planned. Today things were going to go a little differently. Today Hector and Jeanine were going to need some privacy…

Unseemly as it is, Black Cat needs a weak link to get into the security room, and with so much going on outside, nobody will notice if poor Hector is away from his desk for a few minutes. Using her feminine charms, Black Cat will attempt to lure Mr. Luntz to the maintenance closet down the hall, next to the security room.

I'd like to spend my initial PP to create a Covert Expert resource, to reflect the cover identity I've set up. Assuming that either this is a transition scene, or there was an imaginary one just before this of course.
I'd also like to voluntarily activate my limit, shutting down my Cat Suit power set to gain 1PP. This is an undercover op for now.
Let me know if any of this isn't okay so I can make changes.

Jeanine was waiting for Hector, as she'd promised, but before he could say anything, she had already sidled over to the door, closing it gently behind him. She guided him with her hand on his shoulder to the spare desk she'd been sitting on. Hector's excitement was evident from the sweat on his rapidly reddening face, but as he tried to speak, Jeanine pressed a finger to his lips. "Shhhh… Close your eyes, Hector. I have a surprise for you…"

Unfortunately for Hector, that surprise was a Judo chop to the neck that could knock out a horse.

"Poor, sweet, gullible Hector." Jeanine thought, as she dragged his limp body behind the desk. "You made this almost too easy!"

After snatching the keyring and security pass from Hector's belt, and an unassuming black attaché case from behind a shelf, Jeanine made her way confidently across to the security room. As she predicted, it was empty. All the staff who'd ordinarily be watching the first-floor monitors were outside dealing with protestors. With Hector's access card, it was simple enough to log into the system, and from there to grant Ms. Marlowe maximum sector one security clearance. Every door from here to the 11th floor was open for business. Then it was just a matter of destroying the evidence. Stark security monitored everything electronically, and kept those records in a digital format, uploaded to a primary security database once a week. Disabling the sector one security grid would erase all recorded evidence that Jeanine Marlowe had ever been in the building. Jeanine removed a powerful electro-magnetic "bomb" from her attaché case and planted it among the server stacks. In five seconds time, all of the previous week's security data would be silently erased, and any new data captured by sector one monitors would simply fail to record. Jeanine was going to have to write a thank you letter to The Tinkerer when this was over.

A quick and discreet elevator trip to the ordinarily inaccessible 11th floor labs later, and Jeanine was almost set. Getting in was simple, since she belonged there now. Finding a way into the core infrastructure shafts of the building should be a piece of cake...

Jeanine slipped past a few wandering technicians, who seemed too preoccupied to notice her. Once she was sure nobody was watching, she pried open a large metal maintenance panel on the wall of a sleek chrome corridor, and slid in quietly. It was a bit dark and cramped inside, but the pulsing blue LEDs of innumerable meters and control panels provided enough illumination to see that she had quite the climb ahead of her.

Dropping to a knee, she popped open the attaché again, and quickly went about suiting up. Jeanine's part in this plan was over for now. It was time for Felicia to play.

"Feeling more like myself already." She said, as she lowered her mask into place. "Now, let's see where this will take me…"

Black Cat needed only a moment to work out a good route through the core of the building. It was a twisty, awkward climb, and clearly designed to be worked on primarily by robots, or at least people with flight capability, but that was hardly a deterrence for someone like her.

"Aaand, that's the spot, she said, pointing to a clear plastic tube encasing thousands of wires sticking out from the wall. A flick of her wrist, and her grappling cable was locked in place, allowing her to swing over with ease. "Just a few dozen more floors worth of this and I'll be in."

A few stories higher, as she come to a relatively open section with few hand holds, she paused to consider how best to move forward. "Well, there's nothing wrong with a little risk in life." She said, withdrawing and unfolding a device not entirely dissimilar to a skateboard from the attaché case. "Now, let's see if this was even worth stealing."

Stepping onto the machine activated it, and her equilibrium earrings (another brilliant bit of Tinkerer's tech) helped her keep perfect balance as the device rose shakily into the air. "So far so good. Now, forward!"Shifting her weight slightly, the board began easing it's way up toward the narrowing section of the superstructure twenty stories above her. Feeling a little impatient with the relatively slow ascent Black Cat thought to herself that it was time to put the Rocket Racer name to the test. Crouching down, and angling the board ever more steeply, she pressed a series of buttons on the center of the board, not fully expecting the suddenness of the result. In a split second she was on a high speed collision course with the ceiling, and had only one option: abandon ship! Leveling out the rocket powered board, as much as possible, she leapt towards the gap with precision timing, and with luck, she'd catch onto something before she fell all the way back down...

Black Cat is going to spend a PP to perform a Cat Suit stunt which I'll call, "Rocket Racer's Prototype Hover Board," to aid in her harrowing ascent through the innards of Stark Tower.

Once the force of the impact had settled, Black Cat began pulling herself up as she laughed. "Oh boy, what a ride! Shame I'll probably never find that rocket board again." Sitting on the large steel beam, she took stock of her surroundings. "Wow, I must have gone a lot higher up than I figured." she mused. She spent a moment reading the serial numbers and construction codes printed on the building components surrounding her, before she noticed a hatch just up above her labeled RESDEV-TS002A

"Ha! Well, I guess I've always have been a lucky one!" She scrambled up into the narrow duct, and pushed the hatch open with some minor resistance. Inside was a darkened concrete room, lined with metal work benches, high-tech tools, advanced computer equipment, and row after row of prototype and experimental Stark Tech armor components and suits. "Jackpot!" She thought with a mischievous smile. Most of this stuff was worth a fortune on it's own, as the right kind of people would pay almost anything just to see what Tony Stark was thinking about tinkering with, but Cat's client was after one very specific thing. Somewhere in this wing of the tower was a file containing all of Mr. Stark's notes on the Extremis Virus, and whatever the hell that was, they were willing to pay the Earth for it. The search was on.

Black Cat, rarely one to be taken by surprise, slipped immediately into "honey" mode upon realizing she'd been discovered. "Hey there, Whitney! Don't mind me, I'm just a friend of Tony's. Maybe he's mentioned me? The Heavenly Hellcat?" Her eyes scanned around the room as she slowly ventured in, trying to locate the source of the voice. Even if she was talking to a disembodied AI (a distinct possibility in Stark Tower,) it was still always nice to put a face to the name. "Anyway, I just came down because Tony wanted me to grab something from the labs. Only he didn't exactly tell me where is was. It's a lot bigger down here than I remember! ...Say, I don't suppose you could help me look, could you?"

Cautious that this could go very wrong just as easily as it could go very right, Black Cat pushed her luck. "That would be great Whitney! I'm looking for Tony's files on something called Extremis? A hard copy, that is. He wanted to pass it along to some of us New Avengers, just to get caught up on. Do you know where he might keep something like that?"

The key to selling a lie was to say what the other person wanted to hear, and to say it like you believed it. Playing dumb was simple, and almost always excusable if you were friendly and sweet about it. Cat was hoping that whoever Whitney was, she'd be just as susceptible to her charm as anyone else.

"No hard feelings, Whitney." Cat said, as she rolled into action. "This would have been too easy otherwise, I suppose." she mentally added as she ran halfway up the wall, bounded to the top of a large computer bank, and jumped from there to grab a chrome-plated beam on the ceiling. She swiftly pulled herself up into the tangle of pipes and wires above the room, hidden from view. Though she had hopped to find another maintenance duct or a vent to climb into, none of the ones she saw were quite suitable for making an escape. "Plan B, then."

Stark security would respond quickly; too quickly for her to change course and leave the way she'd come in, plus Whitney would know she was up in the rafters, and with no means of escape, hiding was out of the question. Time for an ambush. With luck, she could neutralize the response quick enough to vanish, and regroup. At the very least, she knew what she was looking for now, thanks to Whitney, and there were only so many places the inconspicuously named STARK-1 drive could be. All she'd need was a way in, or the physical hard-drive itself. Bonus if she could get any other valuable data while she was there.

Cat's plotting was interrupted by the sound of approaching footsteps, and a head peeking around the doorframe now directly below her. "Just one guy? Too easy. Too easy by far, Mr. Stark."

"Head's up, handsome!" With the grace of her namesake, Black Cat dropped off the exceptionally narrow ledge she'd been perched on, twisted in mid air, grabbed the lip of the doorframe, and swung herself toward the man's face to deliver a powerful double kick!

Black Cat reluctantly allowed herself to be cuffed and lead away to the nearest security station. Mad as she was, she kept her mouth shut even as Dan Mesjean, King of the Mall-Cops, berated her with questions and subtle threats.

"Alright, Danny-boy, here's the scoop." She announced, rather suddenly breaking her silence. "You know Spider-Man? Friend of your boss? Helped him beat up Dr. Doom a few weeks ago? I assume you read the papers." She paused for a moment, adjusting her posture. "Spidey is a good friend of mine also, and that's why he asked me to come here. You see, word on the wing is, Mr. Stark has a big piece of interesting tech on his hands, the sort of thing every Tom, Dick, and Vulture would kill for. Maybe Tony's mentioned it? The Extremis Virus?"

"No point in lying about that. I already told Whitney after all, so the cat's out of the bag…" Felicia thought. She took another second, fluttered her lashes, and savored the look on Dan's face. He was trying real hard to remain impassive, but she could tell the words Extremis Virus were setting off alarms in his head. She let him stew in it for a moment before she continued. "Spidey got a hot tip that our old chum The Chameleon was involved in a plan to steal Tony's data on the Extremis Virus, and of course being Tony Stark's head of security, you'd obviously know his MO. He could be anywhere in the building, even as we speak. And the second he knows someone's on to him, he'll change face and vanish again. So given how much less conspicuous I am compared to him, or you, for that matter, he called in a little favor. A bit of counter espionage if you will. I was getting close enough to head Chameleon off, but you decided to get in the way." She finished with a flat and irate tone.

Dan continued to stare at her in implacable silence for a few seconds. "What? You can call Spider-Man if you don't believe me!" Cat added with exaggerated indignation. Truth told, she didn't care if he bought the lie, just as long as he actually did summon Spider-Man. She could always count on poor sweet Pete to help her out of a bind. She'd just have to be persuasive when he got here.

Black Cat is going to tell a terrific lie, not that she expects or cares if Dan believes it. At the very least, he might call Spider-Man in to verify the story, and there's no way Peter "Push-Over" Parker would just abandon a friend in need. If questioned further, she's sticking to the story, and probably insinuating that Chameleon is getting closer and closer to the tech while they waste time talking in circles.

Felicia contained her smile. Even if Spider-Man didn't back up her story, he'd at least find a way to help her out of this situation.

"Well, Dan, there's not much to tell. At least there's not much that isn't already in your files, I suppose. And there's nothing that will help you stop Chameleon any sooner. So, here's the short version: I'm the Bodacious Black Cat, world renowned ex-cat burglar, sometime super-hero and freelance private investigator. She stressed the key words subtly, hoping Spider-Man would pick up on her meaning. This wasn't the first time they'd been through this.

"I was so close to finding the Extremis data, and I don't think Chameleon has made it this far yet. We still might be ahead of the game if we work quickly!" She was fairly confident that nabbing the data was out of the question at this point (for now) but at least she might get out unscathed. "Oh, Pete, sometimes you're just no fun at all." Cat thought, as Spider-Man excused her. It's not his fault I'm so charming."

Black Cat filled Dan in on the security hole she'd exploited, omitting a few key details, just in case. She wished him luck apprehending Chameleon as she and Spider-Man exited onto a balcony through the lounge in the nearby living quarters. The place had a hollow sense of modern elegance which showed that Mr. Stark wanted to be perceived as a man of refinement, but also that he had more money than class. The stack of AC/DC CDs near the $10,000 stereo system made the point very clear.

"So, thanks for the bail-out, hot-shot. I'll have to think of a way to pay you back. And look, before you say anything, I already know 'stealing is wrong' and all that. I'm sorry to use you like this, Pete, it's just not as easy for me to blend in to the humdrum of civilian life as it is for you. And my particular set of skills tends to attract a very specific sort of client. So yes, I took a break from following the rules to try and make ends meet. I guess that was wrong of me. It won't happen again, I promise." It felt good to get that off her chest, even if she didn't really mean all of it. But heroics just don't pay out, and the fact of the matter was Felicia Hardy and the Black Cat were the same person, unlike Peter Parker and Spider-Man. He never did quite understand that, but then again, she never understood him either. With a look of genuine regret for dragging him out here, Felicia waited for Peter to respond.

Teleporting into the middle of a firefight was not the Black Cat's typical MO. Neither was fighting a swarm of insect monsters with a phalanx of super-humans. Regardless, Felicia's catlike reflexes took over, as she dived and rolled to avoid the incoming fire.

Activating Multipower to use two Cat Suit dice, and using I'm No Hero at a d4, because this is well out of Cat's comfort zone.
Dodging some laser beams: pool is Team d6, I'm No Hero d4, Enhanced Speed d6, Enhanced Reflexes d6, Combat Expert d8.
Result is 10, with d6 effect, and I rolled a 1. And I think the stress gets stepped up from my total being 5 lower than the attack?

"Well this is all a bit sudden," Cat remarked as she cartwheeled out of the cluster of heroes. "I figured we'd at least have some team building exercises before we jumped into ac-OHWF!" Black Cat was grazed mid-tumble by a blast from the alien weaponry, sending her to the ground. Quickly checking the wound, she noted it was mostly superficial, melting a hole in the leg of her surprisingly resilient Cat Suit, and leaving a very painful burn just above her knee.

"Hey, these threads aren't cheap, you overgrown insect!" She hissed, as she leapt from her prone position toward the attackers. "How about you point those things somewhere else?" she suggested, as she attempted to wrench the blaster from the creature's grip and turn it against it's master.

Black Cat is going to use her brand new PP to activate one of the opportunities and create a d10 "Point Blank Blast" stunt which she'll use in her attack against one of the weaker Alien mobs.
Incinerating a bug with his own gun: Dice pool is Team d6, I'm No Hero d8, Enhanced Strength d8, Point Blank Blast d10, Combat Expert d8.
Total result was 11, with a d8 effect.

I guess I'll let a regular mob go next, if they still have any turns. Otherwise, let Dust show 'em what she can do!

Cat fired three blasts into the bug's torso before the blaster simply stopped working. Though the creature was down an arm, and leaking from the abdomen, it was seemingly still alive, as evidenced by it's scrambling away from the front lines. Cat dropped the blaster, uncertain how to reload the thing, and needing to move quickly yet again as more Arthrosians swarmed into the fight. As she turned to prevent herself from being overwhelmed in melee, she saw the mighty mace of Hercules begin it's thunderous descent. "Oh, boy." She sighed with some surprise.

Only a split second before impact, Black Cat leapt from the ground and grabbed onto the back of one of the many H.E.R.B.I.E. robots buzzing around, ineffectually trying to stem the tide of invaders.

-=Adjusting for weight. Passenger, be advised this is a high threat zone! Your safety cannot be ensured!=- The robot chirped as it attempted to acclimate it's hover modules.

Cat paused for a moment to take in the scene. Waves of nasty aliens, a fleet of robots, a mob of super-humans causing millions of dollars in property damage, and kicking up a hell of a lot of debris in what was probably the least expansive space in the whole Baxter Building. And then there was Felica Hardy, cat burglar extraordinaire, completely out of her element. Would her claws even scratch these bugs? What the hell was she thinking, joining up with Avengers on whim?

"Hey, uhhh… little robot-friend? Do you think you can take us out of here? Like, out that window?" She asked, pointing to the broken panes left behind by Herc's impressive blow. "I think we need a different perspective on this 'alien bug invasion' problem. Whaddaya say?"

Not sure if I need to roll anything, but Cat is going to try and ride a H.E.R.B.I.E. outside the building, and maybe investigate a little bit, or at least not get crushed/blasted/pulverized by falling debris and extra-dimensional space lasers.

And I'll tag Mystique. Us black-clad, provisional, anti-heroines have to stick together, afterall.

Somersaulting off the little robot's back, she was just in time to avoid being skewered along with him. Mourning would have to wait until she had safely managed to not plummet to her death. Picking herself up off the floor, cat detached the grappling line from her wrist, and took a quick stock of the new new situation. Here was a lot of space here. Good for her. Probably also good for the winged horror. The robots on this floor were operating some seriously high tech equipment. Some kind of factory? Or a lab maybe? "What kind of price would this stuff fetch?…" she found herself pondering before she could help it. "Nope. Superhero. Job to do."

"Well, this is sort of the opposite of what I was hoping for, but I have to say, I like these odds a little better." Cat edged around the Lancer as it raised itself uneasily to it's feet, and frantically attempted to sever the cord wrapped around it's thorax. Turning to face her, Cat extended her claws and took up a fighting stance. "Alright, now that you're ready for me. My name is Felicia Hardy. You killed my robot. Prepare to die!"

Cat ran straight at the monster bug, flipping up into the air over the creature's waiting guard, her aim to land with thunderous force on whatever passed for it's shoulders.

Having somersaulted off the attacker's shoulders, and landed a few choice slashes and kicks to his back and wings, Felicia performed a gymnastic roundoff and a back handspring, putting plenty of distance between the two, before the bug could counter attack or defend itself properly.

She waited for the creature to turn and face her, knowing it would have to come to her this time. Judging by it's staggering, and general agitation, Black Cat could tell it was both very angry, and very injured. Still, it didn't seem to have the good sense to lay down and quit, or to attack in a less direct manner than a full on charge.

Delicate Dodge: Dice Pool is Solo d10, World-Class Thief d8, Enhanced Reflexes d8, Combat Expert d8, Lancer's Stress d12.

Cat took the smallest of sidesteps, allowing the lancer to pass harmlessly by her, accidentally feeding his weapon into the hungry jaws of the Baxter Building machinery. If she had wanted to, She could easily have tripped or thrown him in after it. But the Black Cat was a thief, not a killer. "I don't know if they have mercy where you come from, but this is probably the most you'll ever see on Earth." She informed the Arthrosian, right before she threw a jump spinning hook kick right between it's eyes.

"Now let's see…" From where she was standing right now, Black Cat had a few dozen ideas running through her head. She could try climbing out the way she came in, and head down to the street and… run away? No. Up? And help Iron Man? Of course, she can't fly, so no saying how helpful she'd actually be. Probably not very. She could head up a few floors and try to rejoin the main gaggle of superhumans wrecking their way through the building. But then, she did leave the group for a reason. Too crowded, and far too messy. Fighting alien space-bugs was a lot different than taking down gun-runners and petty crime lords.

"There sure is a lot of nice looking stuff around here. And such a huge distraction going on. Nobody would even notice, probably… But, I guess they might get a little suspicious if I just vanished from the team during our first call to action. Spider-Man would probably be furious…" Her thoughts were fairly well conflicted, as she paced around the massive manufactory floor. Until she came upon a large and impressive computer terminal, clearly marked as a central control unit. "Maybe I can have my cake and eat it too?"

Taking a seat at the console, she noticed that it wasn't much different hardware wise from the machines at Stark tower. In fact, the same I.C.E. Pick device worked nearly as well at getting her in. It was really handy having technically inclined friends to build her this stuff. Cat quickly brought up on the jumble of holo-screens in front of her the following queries: Surveillance System Remote-Monitoring, Current Manufacturing Projects, and the word Extremis. With luck, she'd get something out of this, and maybe just maybe still manage to lend a hand to the Avengers.

"So, extremis really is a virus, and Tony's been infected. Interesting…" Black Cat downloaded all the available info (not that there was much) to a thumb drive. "Looks like anything else Reed has on the subject isn't on his system though. Pity. Now let's see…"

Cat turned her attention to the other info she'd brought up. The Avengers were smashing their way through the alien hoard alright, and the whole building seemed to have locked down the invaders. There was no sign of trouble anywhere else. She considered that they might be after the space station Reed was apparently building, but that was really just speculation.

After watching Strange materialize and dismantle a strange portal, she decided to contact the team. "Hey everyone," she spoke into the PA broadcast system, "Just a heads up: there don't appear to be any unaccounted for aliens in the rest of the building. Iron Man might need a hand outside though. I can't see him on the monitors. I'm alive and well, by the way, so thanks for asking." Just then, she saw Iron Fist and a giant bladed beast go crashing through another floor, and then things started to look grim. "Oh my." She said to herself. "Maybe they could use my help?" With that, she bolted to the nearest stairwell, aiming to rejoin the group and lend whatever aid she could from there.

Guess I'll tag... Hercules? If I'm tagging, that is.

"Oh, drat." Felicia said, looking up from the map. "That's our monster."

She had to think for a second. As the more experienced of the two, she was sort of responsible for this mission, wasn't she? If things went wrong, it'd be her that got blamed. So Cat decided that she couldn't afford to leave any possible survivors behind, but she also couldn't afford to let Venom escape.

"Zaya, I'm going to keep on Venom's trail in the jet. I need you to check that chalet for any survivors. When you can, try to catch up. I'll be in contact if you need me. Cat reached for one of her many hidden gadgets, in this case a tiny remote controlled flash bomb, and stuck it to the side of the container she was leaning against, even as she quietly slipped around the corner, hoping to avoid detection. "just got to time it right…" she thought with a smile, but before she could finish that plan, Ikzayal's telepathic message intruded.

Not being certain how to respond to that mode of communication, she tried to concentrate and reply "Now is as good a time as any. The coast is clear."

She hadn't necessarily meant to tell Zaya that, what with it being the opposite of the truth, but Cat's instincts said she needed a distraction. Ix would understand.
