I have no idea what the strategy RPG market looked like back then, but I doubt it was so fierce as to inspire terror in Camelot. Biggest case is Tactics Ogre and FFT. But SRPGs were Nintendo's field mostly, FE, Front Mission, Super Robot Wars...
