Live by the pun - Die by the pun

What do you get when you mix an RPG with a dating sim, bad spelling, bad stereotypes and all of the Anime? This game. Sounds bad, huh? Well, to be fair it has some redeeming qualities, otherwise I wouldn't be doing this thread in the first place. But there are still a ton of trashy things in there, which will hopefully make us laugh or shake our heads. Maybe both. To be honest, this game is sort of a guilty pleasure of mine, since I enjoyed playing it like ten years ago, and still did when I rediscovered it recently.

Okay, let's look at the facts.

This game was made in 2001 with the RPGmaker and offers a generic JRPG plot. The good hearted and kinda clumsy hero sets out to find adventure and gets roped into saving the world. We all played that. But the twist is that this is also sort of a dating sim. See, our hero collects a flock of girls throughout the game and can build a "relationship" with each and all of them. And maxing out the different relations gives you access to the seven endings. Most of these girls are kind of stereotypes, but they're generally way more powerful than our hero. You can't fit all of them in your party, so there is actually a lot of unique content for each of them. For example, bringing certain girls to certain locations will unlock stuff for them or just bring different conversations. The whole system behind that is pretty shallow though, and it's easy to max most relationships by the halfway point of the game.

I also said that this game is Anime.

It's actually Anime as all hell. It's so Anime that it even has it's own Tv Tropes page. Visit that place at your own discretion! Aside from being a horrible corner of the internet, it's also full of spoilers. But I still want to share some of the tropes with you, like "Accidental Pervert", "Fantastic Racism", "A-Cup Angst" or "Ms. Fanservice". Yep. But don't get it twisted, there is no Hentai-poo poo in this thread. The dialog also deserves to be called Anime. Not mainly due to the content, but rather due to the style. The creator, only known as Flare, grabbed almost every Anime trope and mashed it together. Also the spelling is awful for the most part. The English translation is credited to RM2KFanBoy, and they did an awful job at it. I will never believe that English is their first language. Maybe if they still would have been in pre-school, but I dare to say that this was not the case. Anyway, while I won't be able to emulate all the emoticons/symbols, I'm keeping the spelling. It'll be a cold day in hell before I correct all of this text. Also, it's kinda funny.

But that's enough exposition, so let's get to the meat of this thread - audience participation. There will be multiple points where you lot will vote on the girls that I should bring with me. You're mostly free, but I reserve my right to bring certain girls for important "secrets" or whatever. Ultimately, you'll also decide the canon ending for the thread. But don't worry, I'll show the rest afterwards. So choose the Anime girl of your dreams! I'm going to run this thread pretty relaxed, with no fixed schedule. Mostly because I wanna have some fun with this, and want to try something different than what I did before.

One last thing though. I don't really know poo poo about Anime or Japan, and don't really give a poo poo either. Feel free to educate/correct me on the way, but don't expect me to be genuinely interested. Jfyi. :)

Live by the pun - Die by the pun

- The Cast -

Ryle Laster: “Wandering Swordman of Lavas”

Ryle is a typical RPG hero - A young swordsman with a severe case of wanderlust. After finishing his combat training, he wants to see the world beyond his tiny village. He's a real good guy and competent enough to solve the tasks ahead of him, though he's prone to unlucky blunders. Especially when girls are involved or when the plot demands it.

Caris Burnfist: “Paladin of Burning Flame”

Caris is a fighter-girl through and through. She has a brash and large personality, and displays strong emotions in a variety of situations. She brings some physical comedy into the game, and is often a pain in Ryle's rear end. On top of that, she's also greedy and somewhat demanding. The internet told me that she can be classified as "tsundere". Nevertheless, she's good at heart and helps Ryle during his journey. She will learn some of the strongest attacks in the game, but since they're mostly fire based she lacks flexibility.

Orubia Aquary: “Priestess of Healing Water”

Orubia is a healer and Ryle's friend since they were children. She's the most innocent and friendly member of the group, and somewhat clueless at times. She's always trying to help people and wants everyone to be happy. You get her deal, right? While she's not a real mage, priest or cleric, she still has access to the most potent healing spells. Other girls also have healing skills, but she is just the best for the job. Of course, that also means that she sucks at raw combat. But she'll learn some Holy attack magic and is the only one that gets a variety of those spells.

Latyss Grynwind: “Elven Summoner”

Latyss is a summoner who also has access to wind and ice magic. She's the only elf girl in the party and elves are pretty rare to begin with. I think she was one of Flare's favorite girls, as she gets a good chunk of backstory along the line. Her main character trait is being reclusive and distant, because that's how elves are. But she'll become a good friend to Ryle and will open up after you increase her attraction. Her attacks are varied and strong, so she's a good choice for most battles. Of course, she will be frail, but her later spells make up for that. Especially when she gets access to all her summons.

Hayami Raienji: “White Class Shinobi”

Hayami is a Ninja, and Ryle encounters her by chance. At first, she sticks with him in exchange for a favor, but it quickly becomes obvious that she knows something important and wants to follow Ryle as long as she can. Hayami is outgoing and cheerful, and is also notable for having the biggest breasts in the party. Yes, this is canon and will get pointed out multiple times. As a result of that, she is also the most sexualized girl of the group. Though, that whole angle dies down completely after she's been with you for a little while. Despite having an annoying verbal quirk, she is an overall pleasant and likeable character. Her combat skills focus on elemental group attacks, and she has a few utility skills that stay useful during several parts of the game. However, it takes a long time before she gets really powerful.

Fina Delstar: “Descendant of Savior”

Fina is the daughter of Flare Delstar, who saved the world and ended the war with the demons. This locks her into the position of the "Messiah" for this game. She tries really hard to stay humble though, and is constantly worried that people expect more from her than she can deliver. While she is smart, righteous, and full of courage in battle, she is also an anxiety ridden mess when the plot demands it. And her many worries are constantly brought up for most of the game. She will learn some very powerful moves through story events, and does not have to learn them via actual level-ups. But you still have to invest some time with her as she is a required member for the last stretch of the game. She is the only character that gets forced on you, so you better come to terms with her being annoying!

""
Mariel Shells: “Gunner and Gadget”

Mariel is a nerdy inventor girl. She is the master of guns, bombs and all kinds of technical gadgets. Ryle met her by chance during his investigation in Cellen, and she joined his party due to a pretty weird chain of events. "Weird" is also a good word here, because that is what Mariel's character is like. She will be easily confused, and is prone to cry for various reasons. I would say that she is retarded, but a more friendly term would probably be "a ditz". But if the game wants her to be, she will be a pretty competent fighter, just like the rest of the girls. She has a pretty useful spread of abilities, and a lot of her attacks and items are unique. She's also doomed to be the punching-bag/comic relief.

The Birth of a Hot Lover

Let's get this party started

Of course, we'll skip nothing.

yay

Okay, right off the bat you can see what I meant by the writing being anime. I'd hit the emote cap pretty fast if I would try to emulate this. And gently caress inserting a bunch of little images.

Anyway, this is Lucitta, a demon-girl and our introduction tool. She's also a super-secret girl hidden in the game. :ssh:

"By the way~ Could you answer couple of questions?(You better or ELSE!)"

In true JRPG fashion, she asks us a few mysterious questions. Also, the text in brackets is a common style in this game, often indicating an inner monologue. I was under the impression that your answers slightly influence the relations to the three girls you start the game with. Since that is not important, I answered whatever I felt like. But it turns out that I was wrong, as vilkacis told me. It's no big loss though, as the rewards from the question are of minor impact. But I still list them under the choices I made.

"First question: When your party is surrounded by enemies, your first action is?"

+1 Mind and Attack

"2nd question: As you just arrived to a new town, where you prefer to go first?"

+1 Mind and Defence

"Alrighty then! Here's the 3rd one: Do you travel for reasons or just for fun?"

Learn Meditation, +1 HP and Defence, equip Survival Knife, Leather Armour, and Bandanna

Meditation isn't the best skill to get here, but it's good enough.

"Yoshi! (OK) That's about it. I'll be somewhere in this game. Try if you can find me, hmhm. *nod*"

The text will often include the translation of a Japanese phrase in brackets. But it's pretty inconsistent and some words get used a whole lot, so I'll take some leeway with that.

"Oh, I almost forgot. Please choose which way you prefer to start the game."

Skip nothing. :colbert:

"Roger!! This includes the opening introduction & the game theme song. You won't regret it! Well... time to go. See ya in the game, good luck!"

Cue generic JRPG plot.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZQRwsECs7Y

Some of this is actually important for later, but it basically boils down to - Big evil does evil things, till good savior rises and beats it. Then the world is happy and safe for ever. Or is it?! :tinfoil:

Afterwards we land on this screen.

You can actually choose from three different theme songs, with mostly different animations. Go nuts if you want, but I think "Heroes" is the best.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulwKb5WlGZs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PV3oXK_BS8g

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gqC6vql_1o

Welp, after all of that we can finally get into the game!

come on :argh:

A small village located at northeastern part of Factoria Continent. Lavas Ville.

The text highlights certain things, so I'll also do that when it makes sense.

This young swordsman is Ryle Laster. He is the main hero of this game.

"I better get going.... (Won't do any good hanging around here for all day.)"

"(And I should say farewells to everyone.) It's gonna be a long trip."

"Oh, I almost forgot about this Beginners' Guide I got from Shisho (Mentor). (I don't like to read though...)"

Yeah, gently caress books and go on adventures!

Well, now we're in control so let's look at the basics.

The game uses a pretty simple menu which I really shouldn't have to explain. It has been around since for loving ever.

Ryle is pretty much your average swordfighter hero. Good damage, speed and some beef. He'll become pretty powerful, but not a real powerhouse. He starts with two skills. A buff for himself and a sword strike that also has a chance to make enemies lose a turn in combat. His gear isn't really worth mentioning, and most of the descriptions aren't funny or interesting at all.

Let's take a look at that Beginners' Guide.

Let's skip that first point. :v:

- The main characters other than the hero are all girls and each girl has different feelings about the hero. So it is up to the player to decide which one of them the hero will end up with.

- For more information about how to enhance the relationship with the girls, please refer to the magazine, Hot Lover.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to be a horndog.

Since we don't have that magazine, let's check the last point.

Duh, this is basic RPG conduct.

Actually, let's rummage through our own bookshelf.

"Oh! What a mess!"

"(Huh? It's...?)"

:toot:

While the first item is another tutorial, the second is the only way to exactly know how all your relationships look. Real easy to miss such an important thing. I'll explain the relationship details in the second update though. For now, let's learn how to be a Hot Lover!

Flipped the pages of Hot Lover to Chapter1, "Strategy on getting CHICKS".

- Next, by increasing the Attraction, your relationship with that girl becomes better and she'll act more friendly and intimate.
:science:

- Higher the Attraction of the girl, better the chance for you to reach an happy ending!
:mmmhmm:

- If the Attraction of any girl is too low, the game might be over! So be careful.
:ohdear:

I actually never had that happen.

- Now, let me coach you how to reach the happy endings!
:mil101:

I'm going to abbreviate this as it's not that funny.

You'll gain attraction points for solving puzzles or finishing dungeons with the girls, or by triggering a variety of world or plot events. You can also gain single points for fighting a gazillion battles with the same girls. Attraction builds rather rapidly in some sections and there is a helpful item in the late game. So yeah, attraction is easy to gain and having all the endings open is not hard at all.

Progress Events are just a fancy name for scenes that you can trigger with the girls. This often depends on location and relation, or even on items. These scenes will usually have a choice in them, and you get a neat boost from doing the right things. Honestly, there is a good deal of stuff for each girl that you can trigger during the game. I'm not going to show the things we miss though. Sorry, but I'm not insane.

Also that's enough tutorial-crap for now, let's head out!

Ryle's village only has three other houses and is very boring. So let's just cut to the chase.

Told ya about the spelling.

"Yes, I have to pretty Pressi~ *nod*"

"Will you come home soon? Pressi miss you so much~ *weepy*"

"....."

Get used to these loving dot responses. Also, Preshes belongs to the one Elf family in town which we'll meet later.

Let's say Hi to the initial girls, only to say goodbye immediately afterwards.

This house is right next to Ryle's and is the place where his master lives with his daughter.

Let's steal poo poo from him.

"(It's....!)"

:eyepop:

"Shisho (Mentor)... *tearful eyes* I understand..."

Porn is so cool :qq:

And it's actually straight porn, despite what the title may suggest.

"Yes sir, thank you for the advice!"

"I can see you are good at close combats, but the swords have limits in range, watch out for those flying creatures. Also, you won't automatically learn special skills by just leveling up. So take a note of it."

Thanks for those pearls of wisdom.

Let's meet the first girl, I'm sure ya'll are really excited for that!

Her name is Caris Burnfist. She is the only daughter of Ryle's mentor, Brad.

Yep, she's seriously named "Burnfist". Because she has fire attacks, you see? ... Anyway, people familiar with the RPG maker will notice that she uses the default sprite for the female hero. But since there is a lot of original art in the game, I can forgive this. Caris is your generic fighter-girl. Strong, brash, quick-tempered and all that stuff. While she's kinda bland overall, she will have the strongest emotions/reactions towards Ryle. Also she will learn some pretty powerful attacks, but lacks flexibility since they use fire.

"So how do you feel? Are you ready for it?"

"I AM the Shisho's best student. Can't believe you are asking me this kind of question!"

As far as I can see the only other student is Caris, so boasting about being the best out of two is very lame.

"...Baka! (Stupid) Don't rely on other's reputation, I want to hear YOUR own confidence!"

:siren: :siren:

So here is the "gimmick" of the conversations with the girls.

You have to choose between two lines. One will raise attraction and the other will decrease it or will sometimes do nothing. For the most part, the right choice is pretty obvious. There is also a hint option which usually is totally useless, or states something painfully obvious.

Like in this case. :downs:

Depending on which answer you choose, her feelings about you may improve or just do the opposite.

Obviously, the first option is the right one.

"Of course I too have some concerns. Being first time to travel far away from the village after all..."

"......"

"No matter how much practice I had from the past, I'm still a novice during the real battle..."

"OH REALLY~?"

"I think you will do fine since you are prepared mentally."

"During this trip, I don't want any stupid mistakes out of pressure."

"Be careful, I don't want this turn out to be your last farewell!"

"Hey! Don't say that..."

Attraction 5 >>> 7

And this is how you make girls fall for you. By saying exactly want they want to hear. :engleft:

With this done, onwards to the next girl.

One house down, lives the Elven family.

Her name is Latyss Grynwind. She is an elf maiden and a very private person.

She's named Grynwind cause elves like nature and she has windmagic, get it? Latyss shares the standard elven traits of being reclusive, intelligent and kind of cold. Like Mr. Spock. She will get some neat summon spells and becomes a pretty powerful, but frail, mage in the long run. You have to put in a bit of dedication to raise her attraction, but it's not too bad since she has her own little side-story with progression events. The other person in the room is her mother, but she's boring.

"I'll be gone for a long time... Well, I guess you don't really care. ...Haha..."

"...."

Nope

"(She really IS speechless as usual.)"

"...Did you already meet Orubia?"

"I gotta go."

"Later... (Regardless, she'll think about you more than I can ever do.)"

Welp, Elves are weird I guess?

"Won't you be worried about me at all?"

"Uh?"

"Let me see... About 2% of what Orubia would worry."

Jfyi, we'll meet Orubia in a moment and she's a bit special.

This choice is a bit tricky, since the first one seems to be right. But it isn't. Also the hint is totally useless.

"Even 2%, I feel very flattered to find out that you care for me..."

"...?"

"I thought you wouldn't even care."

"I don't even talk to the person whom I don't like a bit.... Why don't you start get going? Night shall fall soon."

"Right.... then I see you later."

"....."

Attraction 5 >>> 7

That's Elves for ya! But honestly, Latyss will become one of the more likeable characters as the game progresses.

Well, only one girl left.

She lives next door with her father. It's weird how every adult in this village is a single parent.

Her name is Orubia Aquary. She's been friends with Ryle since childhood.

You can guess why she's named Aquary, right? Since Orubia is Ryle's childhood friend, she starts with a higher attraction and is one of the easier relationships overall. She is basically the typical shy, cute, nice and plain girl that millions of other stories have. Her deal is healing magic and she is the only character that gets access to a variety of Holy spells later on. Also, she will always say "Dear Ryle", which is a Japanese term of endearment I suppose?

"So you decide to go...Dear Ryle."

"Yeah. Finally I am independent."

gently caress living on my own in this tiny village. The world is my oyster now!

"....That's true."

The right choice should be obvious. And the wrong one isn't nearly as funny as you may think.

"Come on- Aren't you happy for me leaving this village?"

"I am. I really do!"

"Then good! Come on, no more long face."

Yeah, stop horsing around. :thejoke:

"My training under Shisho is finally over! I really want to see you happy."

"But we've been together for so long. Now seperate...I just feel sad."

"Hey it's not like we will never gonna see each other again."

"Of course not! You must come back in one piece."

"I can't guarantee you that..."

"Yes you will!"

Attraction 8 >>> 10

Well, we're done here so let's go on an adventure!

..in the next update, that is. :)

Any place: +1 MP and Agility
Rest: +1 HP and Attack
Scout: +1 Mind and Defence

For the mission: Learn DKI Charge, +1 MP and Mind, equip Survival Knife, Clothe, Wrist Band, and Bandanna

If you skip the questions, you get the Short Sword, Clothe, Wrist Band and Bandanna, but no stat bonuses and no skill, which is probably the most interesting thing about this part.

Meditation: "Breathing technique to boost offense & defense." Base power 10, some variance.
Vision Stance: "Boosts agility & defense by extended sense." Base power 10, slightly influenced by Mind, some variance.
DKI Charge: "Boosts offense, defense, & agility by this stance." Base power 5.

The fact that Mind influences Vision Stance would seem to make it the best choice as it'll scale throughout the game.

Seriously I never heard of this game until yesterday and my psychic powers can already tell me what will happen.

Tsundere/Jealous/Whatever Girl B who does not possess such properties gets mad at Girl A for having said properties. Girl A either teases or brushes her off, unbeknownst to her that she has just deeply hurt the feelings of Girl B, seeing as Girl B has a complex on this matter. Girl B gets sad/upset and internally depressed. Scene ends. Audience laughs.

Replace characters with whichever are appropriate for your story. Pay me money for psychic services.

(Tin Tim, I am looking forward to this. I'm just making fun of common anime tropes. Don't take this as me being an rear end :shobon:)
Haha, no worries it's cool! Your prediction powers are actually pretty accurate. You're not dead on, but very close. :)

So, I've updated my Op a tiny bit. See, I did some digging in the game files and now I tend to believe that RM2KFanBoy is real and wrote all those dumb words. Some of the chars have other names in the files. For instance, Latyss is called Rathis and that sounds like the typical R>L thing these types of translations have. Also, I forgot about a certain thing at the end of the game that is a very strong clue. Really, with the diferent things laid out, it would be a pretty elaborative plan for just masking spelling errors.

Also, I've made a small info dump in the second post. So you can always read up on the deep characters in this game when you're unsure during votings. :)

Next update will come in an hour or so.

Shortest Solo Adventure Ever

Just south of Ryle's tiny village, this signpost can be found. The general logic of this game is to do things in order of appearance. So Lailai Town is our first goal.

But before we'll get to that, let's do some fighting!

Ah, Slimes. Forever damned to be killed by newbie adventurers. The battle system is as simple as the menu was. It's turn based and you just punch in your orders.

Though there is one neat thing about battles in this game.

Each character has an animation for their standard attack, and for most of the special moves. I'll try to show the majority of them.

Anyway, these Slimes are suckers and Ryle can almost kill them in one hit, while only taking like 1-2 points of damage in return. They also drop health potions so there is zero danger here.

But there is another enemy in the area, and it's the most annoying thing ever. Brace yourself for hilarity bullshit.

"Wait for WHOM?"

This is the Dasher. He's part of a series of enemies that talk and are very wacky. I'm sure Flare thought it would be innovative to break up the usual battle formula, but he was wrong. Cause what you end up with is watching the same unfunny scenes over and over, as those guys are common encounters.

"Get OUTTA here!"

Anyway, the Dasher spends his first two turns buffing his agility, before doing this...

"Now, take THIS!! Dasher's "Super Ultra Move"!!"

"The final move?!"

"Superrrrrrrrrr - Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaash- !!"

CRASHES INTO SOMETHING

"Ouch! It HURTS!!"

"Cut it out!~"

"Self-destruct?"

so funny :bang:

If you don't manage to kill the Dasher in time, he'll just suicide without doing any damage to you. And beating him will only safe you the annoyance of seeing the whole scene, as you'll get 1Xp and gold either way. I really hate this, and there are more enemies like him...

Still, since I want some money and Xp, I have to grind a few battles here. While doing so, something happens...

:toot:

You can trade your Victory Points for rare items. Please talk to the gray haired man with sunglass & a red long coat. (Vash wannabe) He can be found at many towns.

Let me tell you about those drat Victory Points. As the game told us, they can be exchanged for rare items. And you want to do that, as you'll get some good stuff from it later. After fighting five battles you'll gain one point, and they don't have to be in short order since the game keeps track. There is also a small chance that you'll get a lucky bonus and receive more than one point, but it's pretty rare. You're also guaranteed to get that bonus if the fifth battle is a boss, and I think bosses give some points regardless of battle count. I'll get a bit deeper on this later though.

Anyway, I made some cash and a level so let's go to town.

Places on the world map will have a name pop-up when you touch them. I'll show that later.

"This is Lailai Town. (I know. I know, the most typical lines~)"

Why aren't you laughing? It's really funny to break the fourth wall!

So here's the deal - This town is the most generic tutorial-town ever. 90% of the residents tell you dumb stuff about the game that I really don't want to transcribe. And you also don't want to read it, right? Right?...

Well okay, have an example of the only "good" one.

"HP stands for "Hit Points", meaning how much pain & injury a person can take."

"Then how about MP? Daddy?"

"But I want them back! How?"

"Take a good night sleep. Then you will be fine!"

:eng99:

I mean, this one is at least a bit cute, but the rest is plain annoying. As are the conversations that don't deal with the game...

"(Whoa! What a RUDE kid~)"

:stare:

Anyway, the only useful thing here are the descriptions of different status effects. They are hidden in various bookshelves in the village.

Now you know!

Since I got a bit of money, I also swing by the shopping area.

I buy a few pieces of better armor, but skip on the general store since I already got potions from the battles.

Oh, you wonder about the shopping interface?

It's as simple as any other menu in this game. This is the general store, and you really only need to buy MP restore items. You'll be able to sustain yourself with party skills or treasure drops. So just stuff your girls with Jello and you're golden! :yum:

In this area, I also find one of the few clues about where to go next.

A mess, you say? I'll investigate that immediately!

I think I know what's coming here...

"I'm heading Southern Cray City to the south. Can't you let me pass?"

"Right now, dangerous incidents are happening down at Southern Cray. We limit the people crossing the bridge."

"Limited crossing? Can you tell me what's going on over there?"

"Large number of deaths occured just recently. That's all I know."

Sounds like they need a hero down there. :frogc00l:

Well, the guards tell me that I also need a pass to cross the bridge, which can be gotten from the elder in Lailai town. No surprise here, right? Also, I'll often abbreviate conversations like this, when they have nothing going for them.

On the way, I fight many more battles and grind some VPs since there is one more useful thing in Lailai. I already hate typing that name

The Bar.

Inside are more annoying conversations..

:downswords:

..but also important services.

Like the LOVE Counter!

For a bit of cash, you can see the attraction points with each girl and also hear their most private thoughts. About you! :allears:

These lines will change depending on the stage of the relation. But I honestly don't know about each exact threshold, so I may end up overshooting a tier and the respective line.

Next up, that rear end in a top hat for the Victory Points.

He'll insult you when you come here with less than 5VP. Cause that's the amount you need for his first item and he'll always insult you when can't meet his price. He has a chain of rare items and the VP cost will increase quite steadily.

"Do you want to trade your 5 Victory Points with my RARE items? Hmm? What do you say?"

"OK, why not?"

"In that case... I'll give you THIS!"

:confuoot:

"......"

"There's only one of this in the entire world! It just feels like letting my own baby go~ And now in your hands! Lucky you man *smirk*"

"(What a CHEAP basterd~ It's a plastic toy bat *tears*)"

Now, now. It sure is a piece of poo poo, but it's somewhat useful this early on.

Ryle doesn't really need much Mind and the other stats are more useful.

His next item costs 10VP and I'll have to grind them up soonish. See, while his items get good, it takes a bit. And the natural progression of the game doesn't give you enough VP to stay in line with his curve. That means, I need to grind so that his trash items will have any use for me at all. VPs are kind of an issue for me in this game. The reward thingy adds some variety but it takes ages to earn them. On top of that, I'll also need VP to ensure that I have all the endings later. What I'm saying is that I'll do a lot of grinding for this LP. :(

The last service in here is obviously the Inn.

But I don't need to rest.

Instead I take a stroll on the second floor. Up there, another hint about the south can be found, but also a "super cool secret".

There are several orbs scattered around the world, and they allow you to watch a lol-random scene. A few of them are actually funny, but this one is not. :getout:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfGnZSKIGEA
I think it's supposed to be one large oral-sex joke?!

Well, we've spent enough time mucking around. Let's get poo poo done!

"How are you sir? My name is Ryle. Could you tell me about the pass needed to cross the Blue Bridge?"

"Young man...it's too late now. Even if you have the pass, you can't travel alone."

And so it begins...

"??"

"Something terrible is happening at... Southern Cray City-!! And if you go like this, you'll get KILLED!"

:ohdear:

"Get killed...? By whom?"

"No one knows who the killer is. What we know so far is that all those who travel alone, got ambushed from nowhere! And those with 2 or more people in groups, reached the city safely. So you need a travel companion at least."

I kid you not when I say that this isn't just the most ham-handed justification for having a party member. There's some plot behind it later.

"So can I get the pass after I bring my buddy along? Is that it?"

"Usually I would just give it to you as long as two of you are going together...But a couple of days ago, I could not find any more passes in my house. So I searched it and could not find it in this town!"

You didn't expect this to be easy, did you? The elder says that someone stole the box with the passes, and that somebody else found pieces of the broken lock near a shrine. Makes total sense.

"Yes, the old ruin to west from here. It's called Kah Mana Shrine. Now the place is abandoned and full of monsters."

"Then it's settled, I'll go to that shrine and find the pass by myself."

"Good luck then young man! But I have a piece of advice before you go. You need 2 people in order to enter the shrine.

"Huh? Because of the killer?"

Don't be dense. He's in the south!

"No, I'm saying because there's a place in that shrine requires 2 people to open the path. I used to play there when I was a little kid...Oh the good old times-"

Yadda yadda yadda, let's just get on with it!

"(Hmm...now the problem is who I should go with. All I need is 1 more person..)"

"How about going back to...Lavas Ville?"

Yeah, HOW ABOUT THAT? :downs:

The game has a linear main plot, this just refers to the unique content for each of the girls.

Since she's closest to the entrance, let's start with Orubia.

"So Orubia. Hmm...(She IS the easiest to ask."

Let's check her hint.

She can't come with you this time. But...

Ah, dang. Well, I guess it makes sense. A ruined temple filled with monsters isn't the right place for a sweet girl that only has a bit of healing magic. However, you can still ask her...

"Dear Ryle....Looks like you're doing fine now."

"Nah, I am in some trouble now."

"Oh no! What happened?!"

Ryle explained what happened so far

"So you need a partner, in order to enter Southern Cray City?"

"It's not that simple~"

"But it's true, isn't it? Then...who will you bring with? Mr. Burnfist?"

"No, dummy! Why do you think I'm here for?"

Rude!

"Huh~ ? Then my daddy. But he recently got arthritis!"

"(Can't you figure this out by now? We didn't become friends few days ago you know~)"

"Oops? Did I say something weird?"

"OK! You WIN! Time to be honest with you! I came for you! You are the one I can count on at the time like this."

I like to think that Ryle strikes a dramatic pose while epic Anime music is blasting in the background.

"...Huh~ !? But I can't! First of all...daddy needs my care, and I'm not even a real mage yet..."

"And based on what you said earlier...We have to live together, don't we?"

"(Come to think of it...She's right!)"

Crippled by his fear of cooties...

"...Yu, You don't have to worry about that. I won't leave here anyway..."

"I understand...I shouldn't pushed you so hard. Sorry!"

"But...I'm actually glad that...that you asked me to come..."

Att 10>>>13

:3:

With her unavailable, we're left with a choice between the other two girls.

Either...

"What Ryle! Why are you looking at me like that?"

Hint: You can be more intimate with her by taking her. BUT you will get further apart from Latyss.

Or...

"What do you need?"

Hint: If you aim at her, take her with you! However, things will get tougher with.

Make your choice!

Please bold it so that I can easily scan the replies. The voting will be open for a couple of days. I'm out of the country for the weekend, and can realistically work on new updates sometime next week. So I'll probably close it around next Monday or so.

Holy poo poo, now that's interesting! I did some digging before the thread, but never found that. Now I wonder how the current version of the game came about. I don't think that RM2KFanBoy just ripped and remodeled it without Flare's knowledge. I guess the game just got popular due to the contest thingy, and western audiences wanted to have it? I do know that this release was quite popular back in the day. I'm kind of curious how much the versions differ when it comes to content and systems. But I'm not insane enough to check.

vilkacis posted:

If you're willing to cheat a little, back up your install, then replace the file RPG_RT.ldb in the game folder with this one. You should then get BP after every battle, which ought to speed things up a bit.

GreatRedSpirit posted:

Alternatively you can play the game in test mode. When in test mode you can change the switches and variables the game uses for the creator's logic by pushing F9. You can't change values internal to the engine (experience, equipment, who is in your party, etc.) but variable #30 is the victory point counter and you can change it to whatever you want. Plus you can hold Ctrl to disable random encounters (assuming the game uses the internal one) and walk through walls!
I'm not against cheating at all! Seriously, I have to grind a ton for the points so I'll take a look into your solutions when I'm free to play again. Messing with the counter switch seems to be the best solution though, since I was already planning to grind the easy battles next to LaiLai. Now, if you could also mess with the chance for that lucky bonus. :allears:

Also, Caris now has a strong 10 > 4 lead.

I'll get back on that later, when the VP prices are 20 or above. I'm also going to need to grind a bit of Xp anyway, so your first idea should be enough for now.

Voting is closed and Caris wins! You reap what you sow

I know I said that I would leave it open for longer, but I had some luck in my schedule and was able to play the next part. And really, with that massive lead I don't think that Latyss would have made a surprise comeback. If any of you withheld their votes due to the large frame than I'm sorry! I'm going to stick to clear frames for the next votings. It's just that I had a pretty uncertain schedule with the upcoming trip and want to use the breaks I have. I'm going to process the footage a bit before hitting the sack, and "may" be able to post the update before leaving tomorrow night. Depends on how my day goes, really.

Cave of Noob

Before we start on the meat of this update, let me trigger a little scene that I forgot earlier.

You can use the striking stone next to Caris' house and trigger a scene with her.

"It's a striking stone which I used often for good practice. How about a try?"

Yeah, sure.

"Guess it won't do any good by just staring at it all day long. Better practice!"

"Huh! Ha! Haaah!"

"Ah!?"

"Just stopped by. I knew it was you by the sound of the strike."

"Just by the sound?"

"That's easy. You always start with 3 fast strokes."

"Ah~ Am I that predictable?"

"Well, I still prefer this way when I got so many things to worry about."

"You got that right! Just look at these marks, you surely have good potential to go berserk..."

"....Looks like you are right."

"Well... I gotta go to finish my errands, why don't you clean these up before you leave?"

Att 7>>>9

Don't be fooled by her being nice, she'll show her true face soon enough.

Speaking of...

"Actually, there is something I need to ask you for favor."

Ryle explained the situation

"I see...that's what happened to the Southern Cray City."

"...Cause that, I can't go alone this time."

"I got ONE condition."

"What is it?"

"If I want to quit at some point, you gonna let me?"

You're not a very good friend, Caris.

"Fine with me. I'll go find someone else over there in case you leave."

"Alrighty- Not that hard headed than I thought."

"In return...I want THIS & that. Oh I also want THAT & on & on..."

"(She was definitly NOT a right choice!)"

Ryle is talking to you, thread. :colbert:

Well, since Caris is now in our party let's check her out.

She's two levels below Ryle and therefore weaker, but that won't stay for long.

She starts with a fire ball and one special skill. Skills that cost zero Mps can not be used by the player, they have to be triggered by the world. They are basically an event switch. Her skill will get used in the first dungeon, so I'll explain it then.

The other girls also have a short reaction to whichever girl you choose to come with you. First Orubia.

"Sis Caris! You too leaving with Ryle? Good luck you two."

"Sis" is another verbal thing that Orubia does. I think it's the "chan" term that Japanese people use?

"You can count on me! Totally~ Right Ryle?"

PUNCH

Take that as a hint for the things that will come...

Let's see what Latyss has to say.

"!?"

"Hi Latyss-"

"....."

"Poker face as usual..."

Why don't you care, Latyss? WHY? :qq:

Whatever! Let's do our quest. Though, on the way I grind a level for Caris and also equip her with better armor. She learned a single target heal skill from that level, but using a potion heals more HP. So it's pretty useless!

Finally some dungeoneering.

"I know, it looks like the place might collapse any time~"

"Umm..what are we supposed to do here?"

"Something's written on the floor..."

"I guess we have to split up from here."

"You gonna owe me big time from now on, I can just tell!"

"I'll head south. Caris, you try north."

"What if I just want to quite in the middle of way?"

Please don't

"Waa? Man, you are so pathetic..."

"Didn't we have an agreement? That I can quit whenever I want!"

Welp, she has a point there. But no fear, she won't ditch us. Also I don't really get why she has the trait of being lazy. Isn't she supposed to be an energetic fighter-girl that likes fighting? Ah well, better not dwell too deep on the characters.

"Use this Insect Flute. If I end up at dead end, I'll blow it. Then you get going. And when you want to leave, just blow the flute, I'll be right back to you!"

Why does Ryle have a flute in the first place? Nobody knows! :iiam:

Well, since this is the first dungeon it's also pretty easy and I'm going to abbreviate a lot of it. It's really not that interesting. Though I should point out that you can't use the menu to save while in a dungeon. You have to use savepoints, just like the one that I'm standing next to!

The main task in here is just walking along, since this is no maze and really straightforward.

Also you fight trash mobs on the way.

Spiders have a bit more HP than the enemies before, and can wait a turn to buff their next attack. Ryle craps all over them though. :fuckoff:

There are also bats in here.

They pose no challenge at all, and are only mildly annoying due to their high dodge rate.

After a bit of walking, Ryle finds his first treasure.

There will be trapped chest later, but this one is fine and yields five potions.

The next chest isn't far away either.

:toot:

This is a pretty nice sword for so early in the game. It also massively outclasses the crappy Slime Sword!

After a few more steps, Ryle perks up.

"drat- ! I already walked for long time, but where is pass?!"

"Now it's falling any time! Arg...~"

The game also exaggerates this with a wacky sound bite. Rocks falling on Ryle's head will be a common source of comedy in this game.

But Ryle's path eventually comes to an end.

"Ack! A DEAD END!?"

"Hmm? A switch?"

Better press that...

"Wow! What was that? Something moved when I stepped on the switch!"

"Now I get it! One person turns on the switch here and the other one is supposed to get the pass!"

You really had to figure this out? I mean, really? Also don't think too hard about why somebody stole the passes and placed them in here, or if anything makes any sense at all!

"Ok! Better let her know now! Let me use the flute."

"The Insect Flute! So it's my turn!"

Caris faces the same enemies and has no problems with them. Though her bat encounters contain three instead of two.

Her path is as equally straight as Ryle's was.

This chest contains three Jellos, and is very close to the entrance.

Along the way, she finds something unusual in the floor.

"Well, I can just jump over it! Maybe too big for Orubia to cross."

Why are you randomly dissing your friends? :milk:

She takes a few steps back and just jumps the gap. I wanted to snag a Gif of it, but it became unusually large and looked lovely due to the screen scrolling. So just imagine it!

Of course, there is more than one pit.

"Whew~ That was CLOSE! What an old building! Just imagine if I fell down there..."

I like that thought. :allears:

Remember that special skill she has?

"How annoying~ Wanna fight? Hidden Crash- !!

:black101:

"They're just too weak after all."

This skill allows her to instantly defeat scripted monster ambushes. There are a few in here and in later parts of the game. They are no different from the random battles, but it's nice to save some time. Latyss, on the other hand, has to fight those battles and this dungeon is overall a tad harder with her.

Just a few steps later...

"Whaa? The ceiling is falling!"

:ohdear:

But Caris is quick enough to dodge the rock.

"Whew! That was close one~ I wonder how Ryle is doing now?"

I guess his head is starting to swell up by now?

Finally, Caris also reaches the end.

Kinda weird that you can't see Ryle here.

She just has to cross the bridge...

"It looks so obvious! A TRAP!"

"Daaah! What's THIS?"

BATS!

"You're SO persistant you know! Chasing after a pretty girl like me, perverted monsters...~"

"You gonna pay for this!"

This fight is more annoying than difficult. Most of the bats go before her, and so I have to sit through them doing their piddly 1 damage attacks.

Since Caris still needs two strikes for killing one bat, let's up the ante.

:flame:

Doing it like this would still take some time, but luckily I don't have to. Cause after a few rounds an event gets triggered.

"My beautiful hair*frown* Now you've done it! You must pay for it- !!"

"Let me see... I can use THAT move!"

Ah, yes. THAT move, of course!

"Maybe not as perfect as daddy's! Magic Sword... HEAT RAY- !!

:supaburn:

And she just kills them all! Jfyi, Latyss will also learn a multi target spell here. And since I never did that part without her, I don't know if she will still have it later.

"....WOW! I did it!!"

"How talented Lady Caris! Hee Hee*smile*"

oh god shut up

The fight also spits out one VP, confirming my theory that boss battles give points regardless of battle count.

"I found it! So this is the pass!! Oh! So many passes! Maybe I can just...."

"What the...they are made of copper! I can't even sell'em *frown* Totally worthless~"

That's our Caris! :downsrim:

"Uh forget it! I'm gonna just take 2! Would Ryle happy about that?"

Possibly?!

Att 9>>>12

:woop:

I'm showing both of these to make a point. See, in the olden days of RPG maker, the scripting and switch range was a tad limited. So the makers often had to include items that act as switches. This also means that my inventory will get cluttered with worthless items that I can't get rid of.

Also, Latyss has a neat splash picture when she picks up these things.

I'm just showing this because I know about it.

Well, since we're done, Caris can make her way back to the entrance. And I actually have to walk back and fight more randoms on the way. A transition would have been nice!

At the entrance, Caris uses the flute.

"That sound is from the flute. She already got the pass? Hope she's not messing with me."

"A true gentleman never let a lady wait."

"Hey! I ran as fast as I could!"

"Just kidding! Quicker than I expected!"

"Darn it!"

So, we're done here and can go to the south. We don't even have to talk to the elder, or bring back the box. Cause who gives a gently caress about order, right?

Still, I quickly visit Lailai because I have enough VP for the next item.

I made them the legit way. I had two lucky bonuses which spat out four points each! :allears:

".....How is this different from...say, Slime Sword?"

"Look at the bigger size and colour~ The BEAUTIFUL lines on the blade is truly a work of art! Don't you just feel it!?"

"(He is a major nut-case alright~)"

"Don't go! I will trade my 3rd item for 15 Victory Points. Come back when you have it alright?"

It's not like I have a choice! This sword is trash and gets outclassed by the one we found in the shrine. But the next items will be better, promise!

Okay, let's head south.

I guess getting the pass also disintegrated the blocking box?

We can't enter the mine for now, so let's keep on trucking.

The south also has a new encounter.

Nope

There is nothing special about them, and I'm just showing this since Caris leveled to five after this battle. She learned a defense buff for the whole party! I probably should stop rustling up randoms before I overshoot the curve too much. Sorry, but old RPG habits die slow. :)

Off to Southern Cray City!

When you enter the city, some very creepy music plays and a little scene starts.

"Well considering current situation, no one dare to walk alone."

"Ryle... You think someone's behind all this? Or just series of random violence?"

"Gotta be planned by someone in advance, targeting is too specific for a random case."

"Caris, you scared?"

"I'm fine! Unlike the girls around here, I am more trained..."

So, since there are horrible murders happening, everyone stays indoors and in groups. This also means that the shops aren't open. This is the first instance where the game isn't clear on how to proceed. There is no indication for it, but you actually have to rest at the Inn to continue.

Let's do that and then end the update.

"Because of recent incidents, please stay at the same room."

"Huh? Same room?? !! DOPE!!! (I haven't even thought about this!)"

Prepare for hilarity!

"Ok, fine."

"Waa? (How come she is so CALM?)"

"Come on, let's go! Ryle!"

Ryle is rather uneasy...

"What IS wrong with you?"

"What is wrong with ME?! You should know better than I do! If Shisho(Caris' dad) finds out we spent a night together, he's gonna kill me!"

"Not only that, if you try something funny, I don't know what's gonna happen to you~"

"Go home!! I rather be attacked by that killer now than facing Shisho!"

"What did YOU say?"

"Eek! She's mad! Just like her dad!"

Not really..

"On the other hand, Ryle might be lucky today?"

"HOW?!"

"I mean you'll be able to spend a night with a pretty gal like ME *smile* With good excuse."

"(It doesn't matter, Shisho will cut me in half! I'm sure of it...)"

During that night...

"I wanna sleep now~"

"Then I'll sleep on the hallway."

"...Am I...not attractive to you?"

Careful, Ryle...

"Eh? Umm...I don't know~"

"Nyahahaha~ I was joking! But you were for real!? Ryle is P E R V E R T *smile*"

:master:

"(WHY you little!)...Anyway! I'll sleep on the hallway! Shisho will haunt me even in the dream if I ever sleep near you!"

"But if you do that, one of us might get killed! You want me to die, is that it?!"

I kinda do.

"Ahhhhhh! Then what should I do?? Either way will get me killed!"

Then Ryle just flips the gently caress out..

Geeez :stare:

"Just give up and go to your bed!!"

"Nooooo- !"

During that night...one could hear a man's voice filled with utter horror from room#201...
:ohdear:

"Sh-Shisho, it's a misunderstanding! I didn't do anything *frown* Forgive me please-"

"...I can not believe he's actually talking to daddy in the dream~ A boy scout!"

"I admit Caris is pretty, but I would not dare to do anything to her..."

"When you gonna end this nonsense! Are you listening to me?!"

"I swear to the heaven and the earth that I never..."

"Get your rear end up NOW!"

"OUCH!"

See what you did to Ryle, thread?

Thanks for the input! I'm still surprised that this game actually was translated and redone. I assume the dialog is much better in the original. At least I hope so. :)

The next part is mostly recorded and will probably be up during the next days.

Live by the pun - Die by the pun

Thank You For Being a Friend

Let's solve this murder case!

Like I said during the last update, the town has eerie music and everyone hides inside.

:ohdear:

You can talk to all of the residents, but there is only one family that will make you progress.

:smith:

You have to talk to the woman in here.

"Pardon me Mamm...Could you please tell me anything you know about recent troubles?"

"And you are?"

"My name is Ryle, and I came from Lavas Ville of north. I am a traveler, also a swordsman."

I like to think that he hands her a business card.

"It happened about 5 days ago. My husband and his co-worker found a stone with rare colors."

"A stone? Where is it right now?"

"There's an old mine called Dannyon Mine. Southeast from here."

"So you mean these mysterious killings started after the stone was discovered?"

"Yes...so we asked Factoria Castle for help. But they didn't send anyone to investigate."

"The king denied the request?! Bakana!(how could this happen!)"

"......The nobles only cares for themselves. They wont even notice our demise...."

Eat the rich

"Those idiots! If the killing goes on, they will become the next targets!"

I like this line of reasoning. You should only help others so that nothing happens to yourself and not because it's the right thing to do.

"Forget about them. I will go to that mine myself!"

"Please DON'T! It's too dangerous!!"

"If we don't stop the killer now, soon people will desert the city! And I will do it if the nobles won't."

Now you're thinking like a true hero! After a few more words, the woman hands out the key to the mine and I can keep on trucking.

In we go.

This dungeon is equally easy to navigate as the last one was. There a few dead ends with treasure, but that's about it.

The first chest is directly above the entrance.

I give that to Caris as it also reduces speed a bit. And defense is more useful for her.

The next part of the mine pretty much consists of looking where the tracks lead.

Of course, I also encounter more trash mobs.

Vipers are nothing special. They have an entangle attack that never succeeded and may also be able to poison you? At least they drop Antidotes upon death.

The next chest is pretty neat...

...as it contains a 1000 monies! :homebrew:

It's pretty convenient that the rope is lying in a chest a few steps away.

More walking happens.

"drat...I hate these wiggly caves!!"

"Looks like there's no end of this pathway."

There sure is, and we're almost there.

There is a savepoint here, and you can climb down if you have found the rope.

I expected spelunking to be more exciting.

I should be careful what I wish for...

But no worries. These are just stronger bats with more evade and a health-leech attack.

Eventually, I reach the end of the mine.

The game played a spooky sound right here....

"Was that from mysterious stone? The one which the lady told us. But what a strange feeling..."

"It's the dark wave emitted by evil spirits such as wraths. But why are they HERE?"

The more interesting question is how does Ryle know these things? :iiam:

"What are we gonna do? Go forward?"

A choice pops up here. If you remember the first choice with Caris, you should know that she isn't fond of overconfident machos. So the first line is right.

"Although it'll be dangerous ahead, but we should go forward. We'll retreat later if we must."

"We're facing wraths you know. They might take over one of us!"

"They are emitting such strong dark wave which means they already have taken over some monsters' body. So don't worry. They can take over ours."

Ryle is apparently a fully trained Ghostbuster now?

"Huh?"

"If the wrath leave the monster and take over one of us, the monster will attack us. So why would it become the prey on purpose?"

"Ah, that's right."

"Anyway let's avoid battles if we can, we came here to gather the information. Not to fight."

"OK!!"

Att:12 >>> 14

Our heroes automatically move into the cave..

"This is the stone! I can see the dark waves coming from within for sure..."

"!! Watch OUT! I sense something!"

Ahw, poo poo...

Okay, this is one of those cool fights that you can't win. Ryle magically knows that the Soul Eater is too strong to beat, but still wants to observe its power for 5 turns. Surviving is really not hard as both characters have defense buffs, so let's just advance time..

Caris gets away, but suddenly..

..Ryle gets attacked! :ohdear:

"Ooh! Arg-!!"

"Huh? Ryle!?"

"Arrg! (This SOB! It's pulling me in! So I'm it's next target...)"

Slowly but surely, Ryle gets pulled towards the stone...

"!! Now I get it. No wonder the Soul Eater attacks only 1 person at a time!"

"It has range limit and taking over 1 body takes a lot of energy from far away. So if other person interfere from far place like Southern Cray, it can't pull the victim to here!"

Must. not. think. too. hard. about. sense.

"Caris- ! Run to the Blue Bridge! I'll hold it up till then!"

"Wha...What on earth are you talking about!?"

"Go...quickly! If you stay here, it'll get both of us. So just go!!"

"But...Ryle!!"

"Don't come any closer!!"

"!!"

"Can't let you die here! Go...NOW!!"

"Somebody....please help us!"

This isn't going good at all!

"Urggg! Watch me! I'll hold you back until she's safe!! I won't give up that easily!! Arrg-!!"

SUDDENLY!

Whaa?

"CLARE RAY-!!"

And the Soul Eater dies with a loud shriek.

"Oowa!"

"Ryle!! You ok!?"

"Ah, but who used the spell!?"

Cue dreamy music...

I never understood this kind of dress. It must be uncomfortable and hella cold outside the sun.

"....Orubia!?"

"Oh Dear Ryle..."

"Orubia! How did you come here?"

The whole gang is here!

"...."

:qq:

"You saved me just in time!! I was about to being devoured."

"My GOD-! I was SO, SO, SO, SO WORRIED about you!"

Totally got her in the bag :mmmhmm:

"I'm sorry....But it was man's job to protect...."

"To die in the eyes of girl. Is that it!?"

"OK! I got it! I won't do it again~ It's too much for me either!"

"....."

You know, with all the hate I'm giving Caris, this reaction is actually interesting and not a cliché.

"....Let's leave this place first."

Yeah, let's do that. And thank you for talking, Latyss. It really means a lot to me.

This events spits out one VP and two attraction points for each girl, I'll show their standing when we're back in town though.

"Why not right now?"

"It's early evening already."

"Eeh? But the sky is still bright."

She has a point!

"No! I meant...We need to rest."

Yeah, sure. Why the hell not!?

"You see?"

"How did it get dark so fast?"

"...."

"Can I get some sleep now? I'm so tired..."

Since this is the first time with the whole crew, let's take a look.

This screen isn't that informative, so have a look at the skills for the other two girls.

Orubia has healing, water and holy magic. Nothing special right now, but she's useful later due to being flexible and getting much stronger healing.

Aside from a small heal skill, Latyss has access to ice and wind magic. And, jfyi, that blast spell is the one she would have learned in the first dungeon. So she'll get it even if you don't take her.

Since both of them lag behind, I grind a level for each of them. Have their standard attack animations!

It's a neat detail that the battles have a slight color tint to match the previous bit about it being early evening.

Latyss learns the Freeze Wave skill, and I also encounter the next form of the Dasher. You're really glad about that, right? :)

"The hell with your name!! Because of your KIND, this game has become a comedy!"

Or a tragedy? :thejoke:

"I'll stride! No matter what they say! AIM to the TOP! (copy right/Gunbuster)"

"Better get rid of this moron before it does anything stupid~"

His pattern is the same, a few turns of buffing and then he does his big thing.

"Don't expect me to be as weakling as the Dasher! Now take this! "Aero Dash"!!"

"What THE?!"

"Superrrrrrr Daaaaash- !!"

"It's heading this way!"

"I don't think so! *dodge* "

"Noooooooooooo-!! *disappeared into the horizon* "

"Go hit a rock or somethin. You idiot!"

:bang:

At least he gives a bit of Xp and money this time.

Well, going back to town will flow into much more talking and we've had enough of that for now. Also, plot things are looming on the horizon and I want to pace that right. But don't worry, the next part is recorded&edited so I probably post it on the weekend.

The sloppy translation and overuse of (Emotion or Action) may slowly drive me bonkers over the course of the LP, but I'll follow this for now.
Let me tell you about how transcribing this game feels... :saddowns:

Stabbey_the_Clown posted:

I don't get the instant connection between "the miners found a pretty stone" and "the stone is the reason for the mystery killing spree." Then again, I guess that's because Ryle, unlike the usual cabbagehead protagonist actually knows things about spirits. Part of his training, maybe?
I assume that it got lost in translation, but it is implied that the husband of the lady was one of the first victims. At least that is how I always understood it. So connecting the killings to a special occasion around him isn't that off. I mean, Ryle is clueless and thick more often than not, but he can be a really effective hero when he has to. Convenient, isn't it? :)

That whole ghost thing comes out of nowhere, but it does kinda makes sense if you recall some stuff from the intro. In a world where a big demon(Mahzok) war happened, such things are probably part of basic hero-training.

SSNeoman posted:

And that boss was pretty cool. Love the oversized scythe.
Yeah. There are a few neat sprites in this game, but my knowledge of RPG maker lore isn't good enough to say what's really OC. If anyone cares, the actual fight is pretty boring as the attacks from the Soul Eater are weak. After buffing my characters, they only took like 4Hp damage on average.

vilkacis posted:

:pseudo: Vipers actually can't poison you.
Ha! I always thought they could since they drop antidotes.

Oh god, I was obsessed with this game back in sixth grade. The terrible jokes and the amount of anime bullshit are only going to get worse.

I can't wait until we reach the best character with the absolute worst translations.
Stay with us and expierence it all over again! Actually, I'm surprised that multiple people know this game, and it's neat to have their input. Despite how much fun I'll poke at the writing and the outrageous amount of Anime, the technical side and systems in this game are pretty good! Even more so if you put it in the perspective of its time. The majority of games were poo poo back then (and still are), and RW was very sophisticated by comparison.

Heroes do Cry

Since we solved the mystery and saved everyone, the city is populated again and has happy music!

Let's take a short walk around..

Oh contraire! You could thank me with a lot of money...but that won't happen. There is actually no reward for saving everyone, aside from that fuzzy feeling in your tummy. People say nice things to you, but that's it.

Join the club, buddy!

The shops are also open now, so let's see if they offer anything useful.

Aside from a few pieces of armor, the smith also offers better weapons for Orubia and Latyss.

And they change their standard animations!

Orubia's flail became more spiky.

And Latyss now uses a bow, whereas her first animation was for using a boomerang. It's another point on the effort scale to include different animations for different weapons!

The general shop also has something that I want.

Revive items should really be in your standard kit in any RPG. I also pick up a batch of herbs since they straight up cure any bad effects.

I also lied when I said that there is no reward for your troubles...

:reject:

Jep, the trader gives you one free potion!... I guess it's the gesture that counts?

Moving on...

Before triggering the next scene, I visit our two service people.

"In that case...*ignoring* I'll give you THIS!"

"Wait a sec!! How come a tree can pop up by just giving you the points?"

"Hey man relax! It's just a GAME...."

"(...OK~...)"

I'll show the tree later and it's actually something neat. Also his price rises from 15 to 20Vp.

With that out of the way, it's time for the LOVE Counter!

Att >>> 16

More like Caris Brofist, right? Right? :thejoke:

Att >>> 15

Maybe Ryle had a secret haircut or something?

Att >>> 9

No surprise here. :smith:

As mentioned in the last update, you progress by resting at the Inn again. This will kick-off a lengthy scene with anime and romance. You better strap in!

"Yes we do. (Young man, you got QUITE a company *smile*)"

"Eh~"

"(Don't be shy...I just tell the girls we got only 1 room left...so all of you can stay in the SAME room...hehe)"

OH NO

"Wait a sec! What are you talking about?"

"Here's your key. (Please keep it down, ok?)"

"Hey! Are you listening to me?"

This can't end well...

"......"

"......"

"....."

"Hey...Ryle!"

"Why are you in our room?"

"I have no idea..."

I do. It's for purely comedic reasons. :pseudo:

"Let me hear the acceptable excuse of yours*smile* Depend on what kind of answer..."

"I'll write you a ticket to HELL!"

"Like I said, that stupid innkeeper gave me only 1 key~"

"Why don't I give you PAINLESS death by turning you into an ice cube..."

Whoa, where the hell did she get that attitude?

"Oh come on, Latyss! Don't be serious!!"

"Oh you poor thing~ I'll go easy on you. You'll be the target practice for my new moves!!"

"Hey! Why don't you believe me? Don't you TRUST me at all?! Orubia! Come on~ Say something!"

"I, I trusted you...*tearful eyes*"

"Not that weepy face again~ Bad timing!"

"You want it HOT?"

"Or you prefer COLD?"

"OK! OK! I give up! Do whatever you want."

Ryle makes the smartest decision yet, and goes downstairs.

"Ok, I got it. (So you want to enjoy 1 by 1 eh?)"

Why the gently caress are you so greasy?

"What are you talking about...?"

"Oh, don't be shy! Here's the key..Hehehe"

"(I give up...~)"

Well, at least you got your own room and dodged a whole can of worms, pal. Also...

Caris suddenly decides to go for a walk.

Let's pursue!

She's sitting on a bench, and you should guess that you can trigger a scene with her. I actually like it and won't interject for once.

"Caris!"

"Ryle...?"

"Hard to sleep? Well, I don't blame you after so many things happened..."

"Mm... *nod*"

"What's wrong? It's not like you at all..."

"How can I be ok? You almost got killed in front of my eyes!!"

"Ask anybody if he can sleep well after having gone thru that kind of situation!"

"I see your point... But come on, I'm alive now."

"But...I can't get rid of that scene from my memory, as if it was burned scars."

cue weepy music

"!! (She's crying?)"

"I CAN'T!!! I can't take it out of my mind!"

"Caris..."

"I just, just don't know what to do!"

"Sorry...Because of my recklessness, I made you go thru horrible things..."

"That's not what I meant!! Why did you simply give up on your life? Why not try to survive?"

"Caris..."

"Ok. I promise I'll do that next time..."

"Only words....don't count."

"I'll swear to you!!"

"But..."

"I'll do it! I'll keep my words!"

"...Alright... I believe you this time."

"What do you mean by "this time"?!"

:3:

Att 16 >>> 19

Let's be honest, this scene would fly in any other of the more serious JRPGs. Since I never used Caris in the opening, this scene was also new to me. I have to say that it revised my opinion on her a bit. I'll stop hating on her now. :) I really expected you to vote for Latyss, but what the gently caress do I know?

After this, Ryle and Caris go back to discuss the next steps with the group.

"I better hurry. Daddy would be worried...even now."

"I agree."

"...Me too..."

"By the way, Orubia. Can I ask you one thing? The reason why Shisho sent you guys over here.."

"Ummm...~"

"I wondered why Shisho sent you guys knowing the real danger here? Why not himself coming here instead?"

"That's odd. Now I realize..."

"...Actually...It was a lie...that he ASKED us to come here..."

"WHAT!?"

:suspense:

"Y...You LIED!?"

"!!"

"(Only Orubia is not shocked... That means she left the village without her dad's knowing?)"

What an astute observation!

"Baka Yaroh! (You Idiot!) you could have died out there along with other girls!! What were you thinking?!!"

"!!"

"Ryle!! Don't scold her like that! We are alive because of her!"

"Oh! I am sorry..."

"But, why did you have to lie to everyone to come here?"

"Daddy did some research about the incident, and he found out that the Soul Eater might be the cause. Then he told me that Ryle doesn't stand a chance! And I, I just don't know what to do!"

So with knowing all of this, your father just went to back to chillaxing instead of telling anyone else? Like, Ryle's master for instance?...Orubia, your dad is a jerk.

"I understand...but please don't do that again. I don't have to worry about my own death since I got no family. But you have your dad so..."

"...Mm..(At least 1 person will be very sad, you know..."

"Alright then, tommorow we'll go back to Lavas Ville. Dismissed!"

Would you believe that this scene still isn't over?... You better....

A little later, Ryle hears a knock on his door.

"It's me."

"Orubia?"

"Umm..do you have a minute?"

"Sure, come on in."

"Thanks....How about take a breeze?"

"...Yeah. Kind of stuffy inside."

"So, what's up?"

"Sorry.. I turned you down when you asked me back then."

"Oh you didn't have to. I didn't mind it at all. You see? it doesn't matter anymore because you saved my life... I really owe you one this time...Thanks to you, I can be here."

"...Some, Somehow you are very kind to me today...~"

"Waita sec! haven't I been nice to you all the time?"

"I didn't mean that..."

"Don't be so rash any more... I don't want any more trouble than you do..."

"You mean you don't want anyone to get involved?"

"It's not that..."

"Dear Ryle...I won't ask you too much. Could you please let me help you...just a little bit?"

"People need each other's help and care to live on..."

Did I already mention that this game also teaches you about the magic value of friendship? Because you better be sure that there will be more moral high points along the line. Pointing out that Ryle's desire to be the lone hero is stupid, is a really common point.

"Need each other..hmm..."

"Even I, need someone's..."

"Huh?"

"Oh! Um, Umm~..I just remembered to do something!! So, so good night!"

"H-Hey! Wha..What was all that about~ "

Att 15 >>> 17

At least he isn't the only one who is awkward and clueless. :3:

Well, Ryle and his battle harem set out on the next morning. And before going back to Lavas, I visit the magic tree that I got for my VPs.

You can find the water next to Ryle's house. Using it on the tree will make an item grow.

It's pretty great, but walking back and forth is tedious. So I won't be using the tree too much. But if you're patient, you can skip on buying potions or jellos for the rest of the game.

When you reach Lavas again, the girls depart and a plot-railroad starts.

"I was wrong Shisho. Because of me, Caris and everyone in the village got into such a mess."

"You should've know the consequences of your actions Ryle, that it my affect others' lives! Why didn't you come to me before you act alone?"

"Factoria Castle didn't respond to the people of Southern Cray. So I..."

"That's not an excuse!! Just because the capital won't care, it doesn't mean that you can go and do whatever you want!"

"Dad! That's not fair!!"

"You be quiet!!"

"!!"

:owned:

"Ryle...I didn't blame you for tackling on the serial killer, but your reckless actions endanger all of us! What if someone becomes a victim of your careless actions? Understood?"

"..Yes sir...My behaviors were very immature..I'll be careful next time."

"Go home and think about it! Then come to me if you need any help."

Turns out, saving a town doesn't keep you from getting grounded!

"Come to think of it...(It was ME being responsible putting everyone into danger after all..."

"Next time, I swear leaving the town alone....(Maybe it's a good idea to pretend visiting the neighbor village and just take off. hmm...Anyway, I'll go to Lailai Town first thing in the morning...then think what to do next.)"

Aaaaaand Ryle hasn't learned anything! :downs:

Wait, that isn't entirely true. Because he changed his class job title overnight!

He also has a new menu face for the time being.

:emo:

Aside from this, he also gains a new skill. A triple slash against single targets, which is cheap and great for spamming.

The next step of the railroad is going to Lailai and sleeping at the Inn. Let's gloss over that and rejoin Ryle on the next morning.

Yeah, the game just leaves you with this line. No hint on what "it" actually is, but at least with a clear direction.

Like, really clear. :)

"In order to go to other continents, I need boats or sort to sail across the inner sea."

Oookay, that comes out of nowhere but continue...

"There's no other way... I don't want to get stuck in here...Waitta sec, I used to make a simple boat before. Why not now?"

"I got plenty of wooden material at the forest east of Lavas and the clothe & rope from Lailai. Alrighty, let's do it!"

"I better finish it before the girls notice. Better hurry."

And then he just does it...

By now, Ryle is a traveler, swordsman, ghostbuster, ranger and also a boatbuilder. I wonder how extensive his portfolio will become?

Well, this is a perfect spot to end the update. Next time Ryle will set out into the real world! What wonders may await him? Sharks and boobies

Note: This update had a lot of talking, but the pacing of the game kinda forced my hand here. I'd like to know if this was too much, or if it can be seen as a benchmark for "long" updates? Like, there will be more parts with lots of words, and I want to present them comfortably for you. I could also include a video or two for those romantic scenes? Just drop a line if you feel like it.

Nah, he made it right there over the span of moments. Like, I'm not sure how much time can pass during two text boxes of hammering and clank noises, but I assume it's not much. Time didn't even visibly pass when Ryle was in his bed and thinking about what to do next. The text implies that a night has passed, but there is no transition or anything. Continuity isn't a big thing here. :)

Tbh, I assume he just twiddled a towel to some sticks and then nailed the whole thing onto a log. I like that mental image. :v:

Oh yeah. The plot will kick off in a couple of updates. Technically, it starts with the next one, but you can't know that without having played the whole game. I'm legit curious how the various layers of the plot will be received as we go along. It's not deep by any means, but has a few surprises.

Everything Gets Thicker

Our real adventure starts now.

"See ya..Caris, Orubia, Latyss. Shisho, Preshes..."

I think the core motivation here is that Ryle doesn't want to endanger his friends. It's pretty dumb but at least something, right?

Our trip isn't going very far though. We can only access this circular body of water, and the only point of interest is the island in the middle of it.

I also immediately encounter sharks.

They are not dangerous at all. Aside from a melee attack, they can also cast a water spell. Both do little damage and Ryle can one-shot them with his new triple attack.

As said, the only thing you can do is to go on that island.

Try to figure out why this place is named "Volcana Town". :) Also, those grey patches will hurt you so they're supposed to be lava or something?

It's..it's so... :japan:

Welcome to Japan-town! Everything in here is styled after glorious nippon. But there is in fact very little that you can actually do.

I quickly swing by the smith and buy a better sword and some armor. The usual, you know?

The bar and Inn share the same house. But I forgot to cap the name of the bar. :)

Inside, there is progress waiting in form of that red person.

But let's take a quick step upstairs first....

..and find the next NG scene.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wprqTNPYSPU
:cripes:

With that out of the way, let's chat up the only interesting person in the whole village.

Oh boy, I have been waiting for this one...

"!?"

This Kuno Ichi (Female Ninja) is called Hayami Raienji.

"Greetings! Sessha (I) am Hayami. A White Class Shinobi."

"Oh-! The mercenary troop of ninjas. The White Class... I'm Ryle, from Lavas Ville."

Is the color important? I have no idea about Ninja-lore. Anyway, say hello to Hayami! I have a whole lot of things to say about her, but it's probably best to bring them up as they happen. For starters, she has that verbal tick of saying "Sessha" instead of "I" or "me". Every single loving time. I'm not going to change that. It'll probably drive me nuts to type this word a thousand times, but we're all in this together. :)

Obviously, Hayami is a ninja and she's pretty good at her job. Aside from being good in combat, she has several skills that I'll describe in a bit. Her character isn't that special or outrageous in comparison - she's actually quite likeable. But here's the catch: she is the most sexualized girl in the game. This will get more obvious during this update, but let me just say that it's canon that she has the biggest boobs in the game. Her sprite even has jiggly physics in certain situations. Which is impressive from a technical standpoint, but still greasy. The internet told me that the proper term for that is "Gainaxing". Don't Google that if you value a clean history. It's the Anime word for big titties that move in different directions...Yeah. Still, I'm cool with Hayami and she will follow us for the next part of the game.

"Ryle!?"

She also seems to know something.. :raise:

"?? Is something wrong?"

"Umm..no, it's nothing. Actually sessha have a favor to ask you."

"What? Forget it if it's hiring you. I don't have any mission for you, nor the gold to pay you."

"No, not at all. Sessha just want to use your boat to reach eastern continent."

How does she even know about our cool log-boat?

"!! ...To the east?!"

"Sorry, but I can't!"

We just came from the east, jfyi.

"Looks like you have your own reason not to, but sessha really need your help. Would you reconsider?"

"......."

"Then how about this? In exchange for my boat, you help me reach the western continent."

"Makoto de gozaru? (Really?) Sessha am glad to be in your service."

"But, can ninja join the party with NO official contract?"

"Please do not worry. Sessha will handle the matter."

"...Then, sessha will accompany you, Ryle Dono (sir), until we reach the western shore."

:toot:

Let's take a look at her.

As you can see, while she's being on a lower level than Ryle, she already has nearly as much MP as he has. She isn't going to become beefy, but is fast and can spam her excellent skills.

Speaking of..

Her combat skills are elemental group attacks that are strong and cheap to cast. But she also has some special skills. That trap skill will get used in the next update, so let's skip it for now. However, the awfully spelled Alchemistry skill allows her to whip up potions. I think it's just a straight 50/50 shot if she will fail or create a potion.

This is her ninja potion. Useful if you run out of other items, I guess?

But she also has a small chance to create a better type of potion.

"Sugoi! (Wow!) An increable discovery! A new kind of potion is invented!"

This skill is kind of a neat idea, but it's not really worth your time. Items are pretty cheap to buy and can be found everywhere. So why even bother?

Well, with her in our party, we can now leave the circular sea.

Or at least try, since our way is still blocked.

"Is there any way to break these rocks?"

"Sessha don't have enough strength to crush the rocks these big."

"The only solution is to look for the Iwa Kiri Maru."

"Iwa Kiri Maru? You mean the katana (Sword) which can cut through stones?"

"Rumor says that the katana belongs to a group of Shinobi, and it was hidden somewhere in Volcana. However, after the volcanoe nearby erupted, many town folks left along with the katana. They might have buried it outside the town."

I don't...what? Yeah, okay. Whatever!

"But how do we find it? There is no clue whatsoever."

"You can count on sessha.. Sessha's X-ray Vision will come in handy. If the rumor's right, we should find it on this island."

"WHO is she talking to...?"

Ninjas have magic eyes, right? This isn't just a ham-fisted way to introduce a game mechanic? Ah gently caress it...Nothing makes sense ever!

Casting it costs a few Mps and will scan the whole area that you can currently see. Blue arrows mark hidden items, red marks mechanical traps and yellow marks special items and magical traps. The distinction is important, since Hayami's trap skill only works on mechanical traps. The x-ray skill will see a fair amount of use in the next update, so I'll go into detail about traps when we're there. You can also use it to find some hidden items in the world. I surely don't know where all of them are, but I'll try to grab some.

Anyway, the sword isn't hard to find..

Let's cut those rocks! Also, prepare for a "thing"...

"Then here we GO!"

"....~"

"What's wrong?"

Yes, let's see what is wrong here. Her left side apparently had a stroke, which turned her hand into a hideous claw and trapped her face in an eternal squash. Also her boobs point upwards and in different directions. Geez. :magical:

"S-Sorry! Sessha can't stand straight while the boat is shaking~..Sessha didn't want to ask this, could you support Sessha?"

"Ah, Ok! I got it! Here, I am holding your waist! (Whoa! She got an increable body!)"

:mmmhmm:

"A-Ano...(Umm) Don't just grab sessha, please hold sessha tight!"

"(Oops!) Sorry! Is this alright?"

"Please stop moving around your hands, sessha can't concentrate..."

"...This time, sessha can do it!! Hoo..."

CUT!

"Whew!"

"Awesome...! What a sword..!"

"Ryle Dono! The rocks are totally.."

"Ahh.."

"What is it? Hayami."

"Ano..You can let go of sessha now?"

"S-SORRY!!" *both hands off*

"It's..It's alright. Sessha do not mind at all."

Here we go...

"Oh, mm... Let's head toward west!"

"By the way, Ryle Dono? You interested in "those" things?"

What, like cutting rocks? Yeah, that's cool I guess but...Oh..Oooh!

"Wha...What are you talking about?

"When sessha was X-raying back then, sessha saw "woman pictures" among your belongings...?"

Haha, remember that porno mag that I stole in the beginning?

"You nauty boy~ *chuckles*"

But she's totally cool with it! And you even get an extra attraction point for having the mag. High-five for porn! :respek:

Att 11 >>> 14

Take this as a hint to Hayami being a bit slutty. There are a few pits on the way, but for the most part she's pretty casual about it. Instead of right in your face like you'd expect Anime girls to be. So it may not be as bad as I make it sound. :v:

So, now the way to the western continent is open.

And you really can't go anywhere else, again.

"Ano...Ryle Dono...Can sessha join you?"

"Huh?"

"Even though sessha crushed rocks, sessha can't just take your boat...And..."

"And?"

"Sessha sense the danger around here, you'll need a local guide."

She certainly seems eager to stick with Ryle..

"But what about your mission?"

"Once sessha have the boat, the rest of schedule becomes very flexable."

"(And there's something to CHECK...)"

:tinfoil:

"You are right. I really need your help since it's my first time here."

"Indeed? Then..Sessha will be in your service again."

"I feel like there's some hidden meaning to this?..."

Haha, now what would make you say that?

Let's end the update here, due to pacing. But don't worry, the next part is ready and I'll post it in a day or so.

It is the most magical translation you'll ever see. And I'm already cutting a lot of the repetition. Hayami brings a whole truck-load of parentheses with her. :suicide:

Ironically you don't even use 'I' in Japanese as much so she only actually says 'sessha' (across this update) about 7 times.

Here's the deal, Hayami is honestly one of the better characters and has a good deal of story behind her. Some of which can only be discovered in her ending. I'd like it if you gave her a chance, so to speak. If you guys really hate her Sessha deal that much, I'd be willing to cut it from my transcription. Even more so since other Ninja people do that thing too.(Omg, spoilers!) If it's more comfortable for everyone, I'm down. I surely won't miss typing that word a bazillion times.

The Army of One

Having arrived on the Western Continent, we're not getting much of a choice where to go next.

Dual West Town is not as boring as all the other towns have been, but let's still focus on the interesting parts.

:allears:

But there is actually nothing special inside. :eng99:

There is a Love Counter here and that's it. Pretty much a missed opportunity. Also, I'm sorry but I forgot to cap Hayami's initial thoughts. Cause I also forgot how quickly you rack up points with her and overshot it.

There is also another interesting house here.

This girl is wrapped up in her homework, but if you check the shelf behind her...

You get a free skill for Ryle! It's a group attack and actually does a decent amount of damage.

I honestly don't know if this is a real place. Tell/PM me if you know! :)

Also can you spot the orb in that picture?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0h5Cnn2gAw
It would be kinda funny if the rocks were actually made out of condoms.. :thejoke:

The shop is run by a pair of anime twins with an annoying music and dialog bit. I'll spare you this time, since it's really lame. While I buy some armor for Hayami, I also discover that I have a second rock cutter in my inventory.

For some reason it's also better than the other one? No idea why, but this happens every time. Of course, Hayami uses the better one.

With that out of the way, let's progress!

"Really? Are you serious!?"

"According to my source, some WACKO just became the new High Chancellor."

"Any other news about the capital?"

"I have been sent down here for some time, no more updates though.."

Then he fucks off..

"Ryle Dono... You should pull yourself away from the capital."

"How come?"

"Sessha can't tell you everything but White Shinobi army is guarding the Factoria Castle at this moment. And so far, Ryle Dono hasn't been content with the capital's recent policies. Sessha know Ryle Dono will soon charge into the castle to contest your complaints...Then you'll lose your life by the hands of the White Shinobi!"

"!! But you're on their side! I heard the traitors get punished severely for leaking information."

"Sessha can't just seat around and do nothing...from now on sessha am out of White Shinobi!"

"W-What!?"

"To tell the truth, all White Shinobi except sessha, are being brainwashed and being controlled."

Now we're getting somewhere...

"To be able to hypnotize the White Shinobi of iron will...Who can it be?"

"Sessha can't tell you that. They will put Ryle Dono on their black list."

:ohdear:

A choice pops up here, and it should be obvious that the first line is right.

"We can't just ignore them! They're still your friends."

"I'll give you a hand. Let's go to the capital together!"

"No you must not! Single Shinobi alone can handle 50 regular soldiers. Did you know that?"

This is a legit plot point. The other Ninjas in Hayami's clan are just so powerful, that normal people can't handle them.

"(Not only that, you are...)"

Also :tinfoil:

"Don't you want to free your friends!?"

"!! Of course, Sessha want to."

"Then stop but this, and but that! I won't let them go on like this!!"

"Ryle Dono..."

"Alrighty then, let's go! To the capital, Factoria Castle."

"(Just as I thought...this man must be the...)"

What?! The man of your dreams? The real Jesus? WHAT ARE YOU HIDING? :argh:

Att 14 >>> 17

As said, you kinda race through the attraction ladder with Hayami, and it's not over.

Well, we now have our next objective, but how do we get there?

Ah, of course! The only other place on the map. :downs:

With Hayami's X-ray skill, you can also find a hidden stash of Jello right before the forest. I forgot to grab them while recording this update, but did it off-screen.

There are also a few new enemies around, but I only encountered one while recording.

Yeah! 420 bro! :okpos:

Trolls are generic melee guys. Though, they have a buff that raises all their stats and heals them. Also, this buff makes them quite agile and raises their dodge chance by a good amount. More annoying than dangerous.

When you approach the forest, a scene starts...

"...Rain?"

"Huh? Ryle Dono-! Watch out!!"

Hayami pushes Ryle out of the way...

"Who's there?!"

*POOOF*

Oh no, it's one of those guys than can fight 50 normal people! :ohdear:

"It's a White Shinobi!"

"Sessha won't allow a traitor like you to live! Kakugo!!" (Ready to die!!)

Why are you impressed? He didn't really do anything yet.

"Ryle Dono! Let sessha take care of him! Run away!!"

"Too late! He knows my face now. We better capture him alive!!"

"It's impossible to capture a Shinobi by ordinary men!!"

"Wait! Look at that! What's that thing on his shoulder?"

"That's? Sessha senses evil energy from it."

I smell a MacGuffin...

You can see the thing on his shoulder, and it's a legit part of the coming plot. :butt:

"That thing on his shoulder might be the cause of brain-washing!!"

"Stop chattering!"

CLINK-CLANK That's my impression of sword noises, jfyi

"Ryle Dono!!"

"Tsk! No time for lecture! Anyway, concentrate your attack on the thing on ninja's shoulder!"

Well, it should be clear what we have to do here. Instead of attacking the Ninja, you have to target the thing on his shoulder which is called "Monster Cell". Hayami also can't really use her skills as they all are group attacks. If you kill the Ninja, you'll get a game-over message which says that Ryle and Hayami got captured by the Royal army for killing a Ninja. Seriously, just like that. :(

The fight itself is more tedious than hard. Don't get me wrong, the Ninja puts out a steady stream of damage, but you can keep it in check with potions. The cell has a lot of HP, good defense and will constantly block, making it even more resilient. It's pretty boring to just hack away at it, always wishing for the fight to finally be over.

Have Hayami's attack animation.

It goes by quite fast.

Since other posters already pointed out that the animations are a bit weird, let's look a still from Hayami.

Her animation is pretty smooth, but look at them big ol titties. :allears:

Let's skip to the point where I killed that loving tank cell.

"Look! That weird thing fell off!!"

"Thank goodness! You've been controlled by that "Cell", now you're fine!"

"Sessha was brainwashed? That's why...Sorry! You guys saved sessha's life!"

"You should thank this gentleman, he was the one who noticed the "Cell" controlling you."

Where are your magic eyes now, hmm?!

"Although sessha was under it's influence, it's still sessha's fault trying to harm both of you! Don't know how sessha shall repay the debt!!"

"Don't worry about it. It's ok. But I would like to ask you some questions if you don't mind."

Ask him how much money he has on him, and then take it! Seriously, I want some quest rewards. :colbert:

"Sessha am Gohu."

"First, tell me the current situation of Factoria Castle."

Ryle learned about the capital from Gohu.

I have no idea why Flare decided to include these lines on a black screen. The characters are still going to explain everything anyway. Might as well do it first hand?

"Now the capital is controlled not by the king, but by the Prince Dyss and the High Chancellor Xaktor."

Haha, Xaktor? Really? That sounds like a villain I would have come up with in middle school.

"Correct. Sessha don't know how they got into the throne, but they are current rulers of Factoria."

"So the crown prince overthrew his own father by the lust for power...Is that it?"

"No. In sessha's opinion, Prince Dyss is just a puppet manipulated by Xaktor, the High Chancellor."

"You mean the Monster Cell belongs to that Xaktor guy, and not the prince?"

"His Highness always had the trust among all people of Factoria, for his good leadership. Xaktor must be behind all this!"

"I can't draw the conclusion with the information I just got. I must go to Factoria Castle."

"Sessha will use other route and gather more clues, focus on rescuing comrades. Hayami, what about you?"

"Sessha want to follow Ryle Dono."

"Understood, then see you later!!"

Then Gohu poofs away, but he's our pal now!

"Since sessha already received your boat, it's sessha's turn to return the favor. And so..."

"Hmm...ninja's way of life, I guess? I'll count on you again from now on, Hayami!"

"Thank you for the permission."

The whole event spits out three VPs and more attraction. Att 17 >>> 20

Now I also realize that I forgot to check Hayami's feelings and hurry back to the Love Counter.

I have no idea when we saved her, but that respect part is very true. Hayami talks very formal towards Ryle. Maybe it is connected to the secret thing she seems to know about? :tinfoil:

Well, no we're free to enter the forest.

It's not immediately obvious, but the little statue here has some important info on it.

There are strange marks carved on the stone lamp. Looks like some kind of code...

"...*looking at marks* Ryle Dono, looks like they have set booby traps in this area. Use sessha's X-ray Vision while you're traveling."

So here we really get introduced to traps. The way through the forest is littered with them, and most of them cause poison. Since they are mechanical, Hayami can block them if you happen to trigger one.

"!!"

"There!!"

Here is the thing, I'm fairly sure that she won't always succeed. I didn't had the patience to test it, but I remember it that way. Also, later there will be magic traps that Hayami can't do anything about. But another character will be able to deal with them.

I just spam her X-ray eyes on the way...

The red marks are traps, and the blue mark is a chest. Since it's blue, I know that it isn't trapped. It holds 10 antidotes, just in the event that you're really terrible at games?

The path isn't very long, but this winding section is a bit devious. Some of the traps are hidden out of sight. There is a walk-able line of one tile size under the forest edge, and you can't see the markers there.

There are also new enemies in here.

These are just melee guys without any special skill. There is another type of enemy in here, but I didn't encounter it this time.

Eventually, I come to the end of the path.

Random save points are the RPG way of saying "Danger ahead".

Also, the blue mark is a hidden item.

This goes on Ryle.

At the end of this fork are also some hidden Full Potions. But I accidentally picked them up before using X-ray vision. :)

Well, let's follow the path out of the forest..

"Huh!? An AMBUSH!?"

Who could've guessed!?

"This is!!"

"I am the one that desires blood. You are just perfect! I'll enjoy you a lot~"

"Tsk! A tough enemy!!"

Yoshi! (Alright!) oh god it's infecting my brain

Make no mistake. Even if Hayami just pointed out what attacks you should use, this is a pretty tough fight! The Ramia is quite beefy, has a melee attack that sometimes hits twice, can reduce your offense and has a darkness wave that hits everybody. She can gently caress you over really quick if you're not careful, especially since Hayami has neither high Hp nor defense. Also she has a second phase. :ohdear:

Well, the first part of the fight is pretty much just spamming my strongest moves and healing constantly.

Things could look better.

Then the Ramia ups the ante...
"Not bad! This is getting interesting...Killing you with full power would be more fun!!"

Ramia called upon its shadows!!

She straight up summons two clones. Thanks! :argh:

And those aren't images. They are real clones, with the same attacks and at full health. You're pretty much hosed if all three decide to spam the darkness wave at once. And even if they stick to debuffing you or using the melee attack, the frequency of damage is really high at this point.

Yeah, I honestly struggle to survive. :gibs:

The only real way to deal with this, is to have Ryle feed Hayami with Jello so that she can spam her skills. And to have him toss out potions in between. Hayami really needs to keep spamming or you're screwed.

Eventually...

I win! :toot:

And get thrown back into the world, without any reactions whatsoever. Cool!

Well, the capital is ahead of us.

But I think we deal with that next time.

Talkageddon

After clearing the forest, Factoria Castle is straight ahead of us.

Let's see what all the fuss with the Ninjas is about.

Curse their mastery of rain and wetness!

"Ryle Dono! Let's retreat for now!!"

"Why now!?"

"This rain is the alert to other White Shinobis in the castle! The reinforcement will be here soon!"

"...drat it!!"

"Ryle Dono! Hurry up!!"

"After layers of walls, there are countless guards and Shinobis...Basically it's impenetrable."

"Any ideas? Is there a way to get around all these guards..."

Haha, I bet there is!

"!? Something's approaching us!!"

"I finally found you..."

:ohdear:

"That voice sounds familiar...!"

Ah, no worries! It's just ghost Latyss...Wait, "ghost" Latyss?? :aaa:

"!! Latyss"

"It's been a while."

"What happened to you? Your appearance...?"

And here we learn that the forest was a time anomaly, and that Ryle has been away for a thousand years...

"I made contact with the Elementals. After transforming into this body, I can fly and find you easily."

I liked my idea more. :colbert:

"I...I see. By the way, what made you to come here?"

"The royal army attacked Lavas."

Say what!?

"W-What did you say!?"

"Everyone's fine...Thanks to Brad's leadership, we managed to fight back..somehow."

drat, that doesn't sound good. Could this be another consequence of Ryle's heroism?

"But why the capital would attack us?"

"They accused us of challenging the royal authority by solving the case at Southern Cray by ourselves..."

"What? That's nonsense!!"

"We can talk more about it later...First let's go back to Lavas..."

"...I got it! Oh, Hayami, let me introduce her. She's Latyss, from my village."

"Sessha am White Class Kuno Ichi. Name is Hayami Raienji."

"Latyss Grynwind. Nice to meet you."

"Ok, let's go back to Lavas!"

Latyss joins us in her new form, but she's no different from before. I take the trip back as an opportunity to encounter the rest of the enemies around.

These can be encountered in the forest and are kind of dicks. They have a large amount of Hp and can paralyze your members. The status effect also seems to last for quite a while.

Oaks are encountered on the overworld. They have nothing special to them, aside from being able to buff their attack for the next round.

When you reach the village, Latyss leaves to change her form and you get roped into the next scene...

"....."

"Please don't be too hard on Ryle Dono...Sessha am also being responsable."

"I am ok, Hayami. But Shisho, something bad is going on in this kingdom. How come solving the incident made the capital so hostile towards us?"

"I don't have a clue...We captured one of the soldiers during the fight, but he didn't know any....He said that the incident down at Southern Cray was part of their experiment and we just happened to ruin it for good."

"They can't be doing this! It took so many lives! And they call it an "experiment"? They have gone too FAR this time!!"

"This is bad...We gonna fight against the whole army which we don't stand a chance."

"Will they attack us again?"

"We already ruined the experiment which seemed to be very important to the royal family. So I guess..."

Everyone makes a big fuss, but let's look at the facts here. The Royal army failed to capture a tiny village that was defended by three young girls and one fighter dude. Doesn't sound too serious to me!

"If things get worse, we might have to face the White Shinobis."

Okay, I forgot about those. :ohdear:

"Shisho...why don't we leave here temporarely?"

"Leaving HERE?!"

"Where can we hide?"

"Lailai and Southern Cray are very unlikely the best place to hide. Do you have a plan?"

"Sessha got an idea...There's a town called Volcana west from here and it's on an isolated island so it's hard to reach."

"I agree with her. The island is located in the inner sea surrounded by mountains. It's the best place for hide out."

"Sessha have a private hiding place there, so it'll be much safer than any other places."

How convenient! Let me tell you something here: this game follows the school of bad game design.

In a nutshell, this means that the story will throw obstacles at the player that it will then solve without any input or help from said player. Which makes those obstacles entirely meaningless to begin with. And there are example in the future that are so much more worse than this one! To put this into perspective, did you play imaginary battles with your friends when you were small? Then I'm sure you had that one friend who always had a super laser armor that could block all your shots, and then would upgrade it to super-duper laser armor when you came up with a better weapon. Yeah, a lot of times the game will work like this. The only difference is that it's usually in favor of the player.

"We have no other choices! I'm fine with that."

"She's right...Remaining here is dangerous anyway."

"Fine with me as long as my mother and Preshes are safe."

"You said the town is located on an isolated island, so how do we get there?"

"You don't have to worry about that. We can use Hayami's boat..."

"But that belongs to Ryle Dono..."

"We had the agreement, forgot? After you help me to travel to west, you can have it as a present?"

"What a lavish show off!? I don't remember I ever received a present like THAT on my birthday" *frown*

"ME too..."

Nothing gets a girl riled up as a good log-boat does...

"I don't really care though..."

:iceburn:

After this, the game instructs you to go over to Ryle's house and introduces a new mechanic. Also, I like how nobody mentioned that Ryle ran away on his own again, with the intent to not return for months or years? :downs:

I have no idea why the game makes such a big deal out of this, as the following choice is entirely meaningless. It influences nothing, and this update will have two more choices. And only the last will have any real impact.

This is the party select screen. You can choose any girl, but are usually limited by how many the game allows to be in your party at that point. The girls will have a bunch of lines that are related to their attraction level. For instance, Latyss isn't to happy about going with us, while Caris would be really happy about it. It's some nice flavor and you won't see all the lines in one playthrough. Also, if you flex your eyes you can see Hayami's boobs bouncing around in this screen. Again, only her sprite does this. :heysexy:

I take this opportunity to choose Latyss and Orubia. They both can use a few levels, so I fight some battles with them before going back to the island.

"Wow!"

Time for more talking, yaaay!

"If we could sneak in from air, and divide into search team and diversion team..."

"Even if you do that, we can't fight against the ninja troop. Each ninja equals 50 menpower."

"50 menpower? How do you know that?"

"Hayami and I both fought against one of them and ended in a draw match."

This isn't what happened at all, but do go on...

"!! You fought them before?"

"That's right. These ninjas are controlled by the Monster Cell on their shoulders..."

"That means, you have freed one of them?"

"Correct, and now he's on a seperate mission to save others."

"How many of these "Ninja" people are in Factoria Castle..?"

"In order to know that, we have to sneak into the castle, obviously not a simple task I say."

"Not only that, the capital might have sent its troops to various locations to find us."

"And don't forget this island is so small that once they tracked us down, we got no place to hide."

"Indeed. Once they come here, sooner or later they'll find this hideout."

"Anyway, let's go to the castle. We don't got much time."

The rest of this conversation is boring so I'll summarize it. Since Hayami is known to the Ninjas, she can't come with us. So we have to choose two other girls to follow us. This choice is also mostly meaningless, safe for like two lines of text and a hidden event that you can trigger. Hayami will do some stuff in the meantime, with the girl you didn't chose and Brad. That last line sounds kinda kinky...

I bring Caris since you all love her so much, but I also pick Latyss as the secret event his about her. :engleft:

On the way, Caris starts to tap into her true potential and learns a new skill.

:supaburn:

And then I make a short stop in the forest.

I didn't mention it earlier, but these stairs lead into another area of the map.

Just as Ryle says, we can't do anything here right now. But having Latyss at this point triggers a short scene..

"...."

"What is it Latyss?"

"Ah, nothing."

"Tired? Sorry, if it wasn't for me..."

"Not at all, I was thinking about something else..."

"Just tell me when you're tired..ok?"

"I am fine now. Let's get going."

"Don't push yourself too hard."

"Sometimes you're too kind Ryle..."

"Huh?"

"*chuckle*"

Att 9 >>> 11

I wonder what that was about? Ah, probably nothing. Elves just love trees, right?

This time we can enter the castle fine. It was probably Hayami's fault that the Ninjas spotted us last time.

This place is fairly big and has some creepy music going. Let's check the vibe in town...

Ahw, that sucks!

:smith:

"Heh heh babe, what did I do? It's a crime NOT to touch a fine lady's body like yours~"

Do you really wanna know the rest of that conversation?

Or do you wanna know how the fat noble thinks about this "arrangement"? This place is hosed! :smithicide:

Since there's probably a battle coming, I might as well stop by the smith.

He has some good stuff, but it's kinda pricey so I'll pass for now. However, I do buy some equipment for Latyss for reasons that I can't disclose yet. I also get her the staff which boosts her stats quite a bit, and also adds a fire effect to her normal attack.

We've established that this place is in a bad shape, but what to do now?

Well, that didn't work.

This is one of those points were you have to find the one NPC in town that has progress in its pocket..

And in our case, it's a guard that's kinda chilling on his own.

"Heh?...Oh..."

"Indeed..it's Sessha."

"So you are safe alright. Gohu...?"

"Is he that guy Ryle mentioned back then?"

"I see. The way of ninja...Blending in so naturally..."

"It's an honor to meet with you, my lady."

"So how is the situation inside the castle?"

"Despite of being controlled like brainless dolls, please don't underestimate their formation. There are at least 20 of them inside the castle."

"That means we are against roughly 1000 soldiers, right?"

"Troop of 1000?"

I really hate how often the game drums on the point of Ninjas=super strong. It's like a really bad over-9000 joke, that won't end! Jfyi, killing Gohu in the first fight is easy. :colbert:

"If they are all controlled by that cell like Sessha was, we can eliminate them quickly by fighting 1 on 1..."

"True. That's more feasible solution..."

"That's out of our abilities! It took both of us quite some time to fight you."

"Then the best way is to lure out and finish them 1 at a time...for sure."

"Isn't there better ways? like we can increase our allies by making ninjas back to normal!"

"How about sessha pretend to be one of them and lead them to Ryle Dono?"

"..That's very difficult. Only Hayami and I know how to deal with ninjas. Not only that, fighting against one of them is tough enough but now more than 2..."

"However, no other way to lure out the other White Shinobi..."

"....I need to join with Hayami first. Gohu, you stay here a little longer."

Am I wrong for saying that nothing really happened here? Like, we're none the wiser than before. Welp, back to Lavas for the final scene of this update...

There is something new in this screen...Found it yet?..There is a new person!

"Umm...do I know you?"

Her name is Fina Delstar. She is the only daughter of the legendary Sacred Dragoon Flare.

Nice self-insert there, Flare.

"My name is Fina Delstar. I am a Valkyrie. Nice to meet you..."

Oh boy, meet Fina the female Jesus of this game. Since she's the daughter of Flare, who ended the first demon war and saved the world, you can probably guess that she plays a large role in the plot and that we will see a lot of her - whether we want to or not. She will become very powerful along the line, mostly focused on holy attacks, and has a whole trunk of Macguffins with her. That's well and good but here comes the problem: She is annoying as gently caress! Aside from being the most socially awkward nerd fantasy, she's also neurotic and has some anxiety disorders that will pop up one after the other. I'm not kidding, she is our lord and savior but kinda damaged at the same time.
Anime, right? :rimshot:

"Your last name is "Delstar"? You mean that Sacred Dragoon Flare Delstar!?"

"My mother..."

"Shisho!! What IS going on?"

"Even I am shocked..."

"Me too..."

"....."

"Sessha asked Lady Flare to send her here."

Told ya that Hayami would be doing stuff. Though, I wonder how she knows such important people? :raise:

"Umm, I don't want to give you guys a false hope. I'm not as strong as mom."

"Wow! She's even modest! I am starting to like her already!"

"No! It's not like that!!

"!!"

"Oh, I am sorry...But you see, I was an ordinary girl until 2 years ago."

"(How can she call herself "ordinary"...~)"

"Please don't think it as: Savior's daughter = Sacred Dragoon."

"Just remember that I'll help you as much as I can in my abilities..."

And here we have her first problem. She is really worried that people expect too much of her. Also she is so needlessly modest that she will sometimes get worked up if people compliment her too much or things like that. You'll see...

"Let us work hard as one team."

"Well, I won't be expecting too much from you. Still, you are an addition to our party. Welcome! We don't have enough troops nor time to wait now."

I like how he manages to give her a warm welcome while also making GBS threads all over her at the same time. :v:

"Yeah!"

"The one on your belt, is that the Savior's blade, Rune Disaster!?"

"Correct!"

"Ah, no what I meant...Yes it is."

"Oh come on! Let's do away with all the formal stuff between us!!"

I guess this part makes much more sense in the original text, since Japanese has some very formal styles of speech. At least that's what I read somewhere, I believe.

"From now on we are friends...Please be yourself."

"Is that ok? Eh hehe...*smile* I am not comfortable with it either."

"(Is she being very open minded or just a little tomboy?)"

I think the word you're looking for is "retarded". Happy to help!

"Only the one with the Dragon Gene can wield this weapon."

With the sword, her Macguffin count is already at two. Just saying...

"Dragon Gene? You mean the Draconic Aura which is needed becoming the Sacred Dragoon?"

"Correct! Well to be more accurate, it means having the dragon bloodline. My mom received the Dragon Gene from other person. She was not born with it."

How does that even work?? Please say that it's cause of magic, instead of something gross...

"That sword, I heard it used to be a part of the Draconic Buster..."

Or don't explain it at all and throw the next Macguffin at us. That's fine too!

"I'm impressed! Indeed. Draconic Buster and this sword used to be one piece. Long time ago, Draconic Buster had been broken for once."

"BROKEN!? That Draconic Buster?"

"The original Draconic Buster in the past contained an immensely powerful spell, Omega Wave."

Macguffin count: 4

"The spell must be handled right. Once it vaporized a single continent."

"That's SOME powerful spell~"

"So the first Sacred Dragoon split Draconic Buster into 2 seperate swords in order to control power."

"Can it be that easily broken and repaired?"

"Actually I haven't seen it yet, the sword transforms as it reacts to the Dragon Gene."

"In fact, this Rune Disaster changes its shape and power along with my personal growth." (level-ups)

"Before I had it in my hands, it was an ordinary sword, but it became very powerful when my mom held it! Not to mention that our house was once completely demolished by the energy emitted from the sword..."

"So the sword simply reflects how strong you are now, eh?"

"That means, I can tell by the look. Fina is quite powerful now!"

Stop sucking up to her, Caris.

"No, not THAT powerful~"

"That's right. I'll explain the current status of the castle in general."

Ryle summarized what he learned from Gohu.

"Power of 1000 soldiers... We can't win by facing them in a fair match."

"There's no way we can succeed even if all of us fight them at once."

"We need a plan for spreading their troops."

"Even if we managed to do that, fighting against 1 of them is already a hard task."

Welp, I guess the game's over then!

"If what you said earlier is right, I can do something about the cell without harming these ninjas!"

Ah, of course! We now have access to Jesus powers..

"Do something?"

"I got a move which is very useful on these sort of things. I can help to end the fight quick..."

Remember what I said about bad game design? This is it. The game established the power of those ninjas really hard. But now it doesn't matter much anymore! :toot:

"Which means you'll join the team to lure them and face them in person. Is that alright for you?"

"We need a diversion team no matter what! Because there's no way out once we get surrounded."

"She's right! I also agree with her plan."

"You might end up ambushed by a bunch of them!?"

"I'm sure there's no way that all of them can attack us at once."

"Huh?"

"If the High Chancellor hired those ninjas to protect him, then they might just do so. But he will lose the people's trust in royal authority if the foreign army is used instead. Knowing that risk, he's still hiring ninjas...to just protect himself? Don't you think it's little awkward?"

"So you're saying that the Chancellor hired Ninjas to protect something other than himself?"

"If that's the case, each Ninja at the various points can not leave his post. That means we can attack them one by one which is more plausible!"

There is probably some sense hidden in there. I honestly lost the ability to tell, since this update had so much drat talking that it drained my brain. Though it could also be because I opened a bottle of Whiskey some time ago and am already two glasses in. Don't judge, it helped me finish this in one go...

"And in my opinion, the Chancellor is being overconfident about security because he hired the White Ninjas. For they are the strongest mercenary army that he can find out there..."

"You...you are absolutely right."

"Miss Delstar, you are increable!"

"Sessha can say like mother and like daughter."

"Much better analytic skills than I expected.."

"That's her way of saying "You are very talented".."

"Hey~ Please don't be so flattering" *frown*

"Now we got to seperate members into 2 teams; Infiltration Team and Diversion Team."

"I'll join the Diversion Team and I also want Hayami. She can catch up with ninjas' speed."

"Sessha want to join Lady Fina!"

"Right now I don't know much about you other guys, so I just gonna assume that you can handle it!"

"We'll show it to you at the castle."

"I am looking forward to see it!"

"Then I'll lead the Infiltration Team with 2 more members!"

Please choose two girls for Ryle's team!

The third girl will join Fina's team, and we will need to control both teams in the castle. I'm just saying that if any of you want to take party composition into account. The voting will be open for the weekend.

My professional counting skills came to this result.

Latyss - 16

Caris - 15

Orubia - 12

So the first two win and voting is closed!

55?! You don't say?!
Ahaha, gently caress! A lot of this is very true. I would like to give a few more in-game examples, but I really don't want to spoil it for the thread. :)

alcharagia posted:

The portrait Caris maintains for basically the entire recruitment conversation with FINA THE STAR leads me to hear all of her lines in an exaggeratedly sarcastic voice. It made that conversation a lot funnier.
It sure would! I was pretty surprised that Caris was so nice towards Fina. Really, I expected her to be catty since she's so full of herself in the beginning of the game. But who needs consistent characterization?

Glazius posted:

You can only win fights because of a plot device, but you can't win them all the time because of a different plot device... eesh.
This is so true that I can't even joke about it. Again, I don't wanna spoil poo poo but most of the game just works like that.

If you think Fina is annoying and Mary Sue-like for now, just wait until later in the game. :smithicide:
+1

Though I want to say that some parts around her are neat, and she has a few moments of being likeable. But for the most part it's painful. I'm really looking forward to a certain part that will reveal several of her anxiety problems in short order. And it's not too far away. :bang:

Thanks again for you input, Polsy. I really appreciate it! Pretty weird that RM2KFanBoy changed the name of Fina's mother. But maybe he was such a fanboy(heh) of Flare that he wanted to put him on a pedestal?

And on the topic of the self-insert, there is a real and unmistakable one that I haven't shown so far. It's an enemy that you can encounter real early, it just didn't happen as of yet. I may postpone this till much later in the game though, since it also has a secret kinda tied to it and you need an endgame weapon to trigger it.

The idea of using rain to signal to your super special ninja buddies seems kind of weird, considering that (if this magical fantasy land is anything like Europe) rain is going to be at least a somewhat common occurrence. I'm just imagining them charging out from the castle every time it rains and then heading back inside to moan about it.
Haha, that's a hilarious mental image!

Soup Inspector posted:

...We've got a long way to go, don't we? :sigh:
Actually, the game is not that long in terms of the JRPG genre. I think you can plow through it in somewhat around 15 hours, if you don't grind. We'll still see a lot of updates due to all the talking and scenes, but I have a pretty clear concept of how long this will take.

And with that, I'm off to liberate those poor mind controlled ninjas!

Maybe Latyss will actually get some summon spells this time around. I have a bet with myself that one of the summons is Bahamut :allears:
Forgot this in my last post. It's not too much of a spoiler when I say that Latyss will get her summons during her own little backstory part. It's not too far away, and I find it to be actually good! Bahamut won't be under her command, but if you played Secret of Mana....

I've also included Fina in that list on the first page. I had to wait a while before my brain could be subjected to more thinking about her. :reject:

I do want to point out that there was a previous game to this. Romancing Walker is a sequel to this game, though I've forgotten the title. Flare is the main character in this game, and does not have the Dragon Gene until later on. I'm not sure how much of this game you want spoiled, but there ya go. There's actually a game on Rm2k maker for this, though not translated in English and NOT on any PC variants.
Haha, holy poo poo, seriously? Now I'm kinda curious what it contains but also frightened because of possible :japan: overdose.

Again, I'm really baffled by how much :eng101: you guys bring into this thread about an old and silly Anime game made with the RPG maker. Never would have expected that!

On the way to the castle, I stop by the VP guy and get the next treasure.

I have to cough up 20VP this time, and the next time will be the same. But that won't stay for long.

:toot:

This sword is for Ryle, and does exactly what it says. 75% chance to crit but also to miss.

It's not too awesome, but since it also raises several of his stats, I'll equip it for now.

Shortly before I reach the castle, Latyss learns a mind buff for the whole party and also gains a single attraction point from fighting alongside Ryle.

Inside, I chat up Gohu to see what to do next.

"Sessha already double checked, 20 Ninjas still inside the castle."

"Alright then!"

"Also it's better to sneak into the castle during the night time, we should keep the possible civil disorders to the minimum."

"I got it! Let's go wait at the inn."

Before I do that though, I spend my last cash at the smith and pick up whatever I can afford. It's not much, but better than nothing.

Let's do this! :black101:

We'll see about that...

"How about tonight then?"

"What?! Are you nuts?"

"No! We just want to beat the bad guys!"

"Shut up! You FLAT-chest!"

Daaaaaaammmnn :stare:

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!! What did YOU just say!! You are SO deadddddddddddddddddd!!!!!"

"Hey! Wait a sec! What are you trying to do?!"

"HUAH!!"

Fina totally hulks out and slices the guards out of the way

"You...you just killed them!?"

"NO mercy on those who insult my breasts!!"

"......~"(I better watch out from now on, especially commenting on breasts)

That's solid life advice for a lot of situations. So, how do you like Fina's first disorder? She's terribly sad that she has small breasts and will flip the gently caress out when somebody says so. And it will come up several times! Awesome, isn't it? And to give you a little hint for the future, you do remember that she's paired up with Hayami, right? That will work out great...

Anyway, there's no return now...

"Don't get near the throne hall! You have to get rid of all the surrounding guards first!"

"Let me see...how many of them do we need to finish? Hayami, what's your opinion?"

"It's highly possible to be 15 out of 20 we have to handle. The rest are supposed to be with Xaktor."

"Besides the king's room and the room for the prince, there are few places to hide. And don't even think about fighting more than 2 ninjas at once! Thank goodness it's a small army~"

This is actually a disguised hint. You have to check both of those rooms to finish this section.

"But don't underestimate their strength, imagine fighting against 1000 regular troops."

"Then Dear Fina and others must defeat 15 Ninjas?"

The "others" also include you, Orubia. :downs:

"After that, Ryle's group go to the throne hall and make the rest back to normal, and then finish Xaktor..."

"Here we go!"

Now I'm in control of Fina's party...

..and everyone has their game-face on.

Since we haven't seen her before, let's check Fina's skills.

She's pretty much a Paladin. Some healing magic, holy attacks and a fire spell, for whatever reason. The Dragon Gene is one of those event skills and useless to us.

Okay, here is how this section works. You have to make your way through the castle and free 15 Ninjas. Fina will keep count so you don't have to. There are random battles in here, but overall this section isn't hard. It's more a test of endurance than power. The layout of the castle is very square and straight-forward. You just move around and kill poo poo till you're done.

After a few steps, I immediately encounter the first new enemy.

I think they can cause the Shaky status, but didn't really check. Since this part is a gauntlet, I just power through the randoms.

Have Fina's attack animation.

Her jacket makes her look like a pirate captain :v:

Shortly after, I meet the first Ninja.

Let's free him!

"Sessha am White Shinobi Kuno Ichi, Hayami! We'll turn you back to normal!"

"Interesting...Let sessha see how capable you are!"

"Sorry, you are outnumbered!"

"Your life...shall be MINE!!"

"Roger!!"

"Umm, I don't know if I can handle them~"

The actual fights are exactly like the one against Gohu, the only difference is that Fina's Victory Buster does a lot of damage against the Cell. It goes down in two rounds which is very nice. It was actually neat that you didn't vote for Orubia, as she's more useful on this team due to her holy attacks. The animation for Fina's Victory Buster isn't that special, but here it is anyway.

:supaburn:

After the cell is dead, the Ninja returns to normal.

"Yeah! It's number 1!"

"Ouch..Sessha..Umm? What happened..?"

"You've been brainwashed. Sessha am afraid by Xaktor..."

"Sessha get it now...Sorry for all the troubles..."

"I have a favor to ask you, ok? I want you to watch our back as well as the escape route."

"!! But that means?!"

"I appreciate your concern, but we are on the mission and we can't afford to make any mistakes now."

"...Roger! Good luck!!"

"Go to next target!"

I basically have to do this fourteen more times, and a lot of the text you just saw will repeat. So I'll abridge this part a bit and will only type the unique text. I'm still going to show you all the Ninjas though, mainly to give you an idea of the map.

Number two is waiting on the other side of the floor.

"Your life...shall be MINE! Kakugo-!"

"Sessha am also White Shinobi! You won't beat sessha so easily!"

After dealing with him, I take a quick step downstairs. There I find a chest with a Wizard Hat that Orubia can wear. It's just armor though and has no special traits. The other downward staircase leads to a prison, but the entrance is locked tight.

So up to the next floor we go!

I swiftly deal with number three, and approach the lower Ninja...

"Sounds like we are the bad guys~"

"You ruthless bunch of chumps! Let sessha show you the way of justice!"

Yeah, how about no?

Aside from a savepoint, there is an elevator to the throne room here. Of course, it's not working. :)

A few steps down the hall, number five and six are found.

The one on the left has a little scene after you beat him so I'll do that first. Also, Hayami learns a water based attack from leveling up. Now she has four of the mundane elements at her disposal, really only missing ice. Which isn't a real element anyway. :eng99:

"You've been brainwashed by Xaktor."

"What...? But how..?"

"I only heard from the others, it seems you guys end up helping the bad guys..."

"Really!? Maybe a wire or two still hanging on sessha's arms and legs?!"

"What do you think you are?! A nutcracker?"

"Jesus! You need to control your blood sugar level Miss, and take it easy. Get some of those iron pills and calcium too!"

"Urr! This guy's starting to irritate me..ok just follow my directions. Got that?"

"Huh?"

"Go to the castle entrance, you'll see a tall man with 2 girls. Just stay with them."

I'd never assumed that Ryle is actually tall. But I guess it's canon now.

"Why?"

"Because it's freaking dangerous for you to stay here! Got it now!?"

"But you look like the most dangerous person in this castle Miss..."

:thejoke:

"ARRRRRRR-!!!"

Suddenly, Hayami saunters over to him..

"After this mission is completed, sessha will......you, ok?"

"Really!? Sessha will pursue this mission even if it means risking life!"

"What did you tell him?"

"Sessha told him that he shall be rewarded with large amounts of his favorite treats after this..."

"Did you just bribe him with mere snacks?"

"Why don't we just hurry to next target now?"

"Never thought the famous mercenary force would be easily tamed with some candy bars~"

"Haa...*sigh*"

Okay, real talk. This is open to interpretation and probably garbled by the translation, but I just assume that she offered him all the blowjobs. :ssh:

Moving on...

"You better dream to pass sessha!"

"Oh YES I can!"

"Lady Fina...don't get into such a silly fight!"

"Silly....?!*tripped*"

"Lady Fina-! Wake up! The enemy's coming!!"

Jokes!

Orubia picks up a new group attack here. Also, the door is locked and I move to the other side of the floor.

On the way, I meet the next random enemy type.

The gently caress? :stare: I just cut them down real quick, so I have no idea if they can do tricks.

Here are the next two Ninjas. The third one is in the middle of the castle, and can't be reached yet. Let's take care of the upper one first, which triggers the next instance of titty-hate.

"Arg! Even if you are a Ninja, you can't fight 3 of us~"

"Wh...What a fighting spirit! But where does it come from?"

:suicide:

"(How come my chest is so small and flat)*frown*"

fuuuuuuck

"D-Don't know what's going on, but an increable impact! Sessha'll deal with you with full power!"

Nope, he's a chump like the rest.

"Are you ok?"

"Looks like sessha's injury is more severe~"

"(Oops! I hit him too hard!)"

"Anyway...I want you to walk down to the 1st floor ok?"

"!? Please allow sessha to join your mission!"

"We are on a dangerous mission now. Not only that, you look pretty beat up."

"...Understood! Good luck!!"

"(Sorry~)"

"By the way Lady Fina...How did you come out with that much power all of sudden?"

No, stop it!

"Eh? Well, because our opponent is an expert, I had to fight him with full force! (I c-can't tell her the truth! That I was jelous of her breasts so much...I ended up getting mad~)"

We're all in this together now...we're all tainted. :colbert:

The other Ninja is dispatched quickly, bringing us up to eight. And I discover the next one after a few steps down.

"Only that you won't have it!"

"I'll show you!"

"Lady Fina! Please don't act like a thief~"

"Oops! Sorry! My old habit being a poor peasant for many years just came out..."

What the hell are you even talking about?

"Even with that, you can't just steal from others!"

"You can keep entertaining yourselves after I sent you to hell!"

"Hayami, we will talk about this later!"

Nope!

"You sure you gonna open it no matter what?"

"I just want to see if there's any item useful to our mission."

"Sessha think that's not the REAL reason..."

"(Oops! She got me~)"

Inside the chest is the key I need to access the middle of the castle.

"SEE?! I told you so!"

"..."

"We are just borrowing the key under the name of justice!"

"..."

"Give me a break...~ I can feel little bit of guilt too!"

"Haa...*sigh*"

I'm close to bringing out the Whiskey again, not gonna lie... :(

Anyway, before I take on the middle of the castle, I still have to clear the highest floor.

This is the wing where the King sleeps. And Ninja number ten is in the way.

Inside his room, I find a chest with five Jellos. Hayami has no moral objections this time though.

When I try to leave the room, a little scene gets triggered.

"I don't see the king here as well...Maybe imprisoned at lower dungeon?"

"Lady Fina-! Above you!"

CLINK-CLANK

"Waa~ Th, That was close~"

"Tssk! I missed."

Ninja eleven ambushes us out of thin air.

The other side of this floor has the room of the prince, and I also need to search it.

Aside from Ninja number twelve, this gives us a sneak-peek into the throne room.

The room of the prince also has a chest.

It holds a Broad Sword. It's the same sword that we found while in the mines, and therefore trash.

When you leave this room, you trigger another ambush that is exactly like the one before. So let's skip that and move through the middle of the castle now.

Through the locked door...

..on the floor. Everybody walk the...ah gently caress it. :)

By the way, Orubia learns Holy Cross here. It's a single target spell with a good chunk of holy damage. This allows me to finish the last Ninjas in a single turn. Yay!

Ninja fourteen..

...and fifteen. Done!

"Mission complete!! Let's go join Ryle!"

That "go" is meant literal. I have to walk all the way back, still fighting randoms. :(

"Alright, let's tackle the throne!!"

"We should find 5 Shinobis there expecting us."

"Watch out for the monsters which Xaktor released inside the castle! And ONE more thing! The King is imprisoned somewhere in this castle!"

"!?"

"His Highness was not found in his chamber."

"Probably down at the dungeon?"

"But why the king?"

"Maybe for a hostage to make Prince Dyss follow his orders."

"I get it! Xaktor threatened the prince to do what he says otherwise the King would be dead!"

"But if he's that clever, why not let the monster cell control the prince like the others?"

"Why is that?"

"He rather use the cells on those Ninjas who are already famous for being 100% loyal to their employer. That kind of bad dude would leave the prince alone?"

"Why not just brainwash the king in the first place? Isn't that more efficient?"

"Looks like Xaktor wants the whole world; starting from Factoria. That's why he chose the prince who would be more useful in the long run than the old king. If the prince dies, he must find someone else to continue the throne."

You know, for all the garbled mess that this plot is, that makes actual sense!

"That gotta be a troublesome task."

"Taking the prince also means more advantage over the King."

"Advantage?"

"If he wants, he can pretend to assassinate the King, then he can raise the army with cause. Soldiers will sympathize with their poor prince who just lost his father. And willing follow any orders. The next step, let the prince start a war against neighboring kingdom for revenge."

drat, all this sense-making is really odd. Can somebody be wacky again, please? :ohdear:

"Neighboring kingdom means Meldia!"

"Meldia is ruled by the heroes from the "Demonic War". Lord Zestrum and Lady Meldyss!!"

"That's too dangerous! If we start a war with that kingdom, others will turn against us!"

"Correct! Like Caris said, Meldia is respected by many."

"In order to prevent it, we must stop the High Chancellor Xaktor!"

"Fina, my group will head for the throne hall! You go rescue the King! If things go bad, try to escape as soon as you His Highness!"

"Why not we all attack Xaktor now?"

"Absolutely not! If he gets away, the King might get into real danger."

"Then how about let the Ninjas take care of him?"

"No, they'll handle other matters. Fina and others, search the lower dungeon along with a couple of Ninjas. Let me take care of Xaktor."

"...Ok then!"

"Well...let's end this fight!!"

Nope, let's end this update!

Fina is a loser but you rarely see a finer portrait for murderous rage and that got a few chuckles out of me, so I can't totally hate her.
I really find her to be quite annoying, but I should say that the "A-cup Angst" episode is her lowest point. She has more problems but that really was the bottom of the barrel. In that regard, it's also one of the worst points of the game. It's just such an immature and genuinely stupid thing to include, that I can't even compare it to anything else.

Ben Kasack posted:

Yeah, it almost feels like they wanted a rather serious plot but at the SAME TIME the typical harem anime comedy splashed in here and there so they do so and along with the bad Engrish, you end up with :psyduck: + :japan: = :psyboom:
Yeah, this.

The tides of the writing are really weird if you examine them. The serious parts of this game are honestly okay, and would fly in any other more serious JRPG. I have mentioned Latyss' sidestory a couple of times now, and I honestly like it. It isn't too far away, and I'll be glad when we reach it. But I just can't shake the feeling that Flare started with a serious story idea and then rubbed Anime all over it. Or the other way around. :)

The Yucky Icky Meringue or whatever isn't quite as inaccurate as it looks from the description - it has a 60% hit rate. Still seems to unreliable to be useful, though.
One thing that's kinda weird about this weapon, is that I'm fairly sure that it also affects Ryle's skills. Like, you'd expect it to only work with his default attack, but I had an uncanny amount of misses when using skills while wielding the sword. Could be my personal perception, but nothing is impossible with this game.

Ben Kasack posted:

This just made me think: Do Clare and Latyss also don game faces if they are in this party? Just wondering. I suspect the answer is yes, but it would be odd if they didn't.
Yeah, as thenightsshadow said, they do. But we'll see those faces in the game sooner or later anyway. The change of menu portraits happens a couple of times during the game, and it's a neat detail.

Live by the pun - Die by the pun

Yer a Bastard, Ryle

It's time to confront the evil Chancellor!

Is he giving us beauty tips now?

"Never thought the evil mastermind behind all of this would say that..."

"I have never seen such an odd evil person before, and I can see you look down on everyone."

"What's the purpose of doing this! You want to rule the kingdom. Is that is?"

"Are you...interrogating MOI? Ryle Laster?"

"!?(This guy knows my name!?)"

"Or perhaps, I called you a wrong name? Oh yes, you have another name too...Second son of the 25th Factoria King Acemel. Prince Ryle S. Factoria...should I call you that, your Highness?"

Whhhhaaaaaaaaaaaat :aaa:

"!!?"

"Ryle is...? Prince of the Factoria Kingdom!!"

"!?"

"You think that kind of bluffing would throw us into disorder!?"

"It's up to you to believe it or not. Since I am not interested in your past but the now. I hate wasting my time on useless jokes. So you should know whether it was a lie or not."

"What do you mean?"

"To someone like me who already took control of Factoria, the biggest threat now is you Prince Ryle...You, being kind and fair like your brother, are the best leader those rebels need. Which I personally dislike the most~"

"...."

"And now you boldly come here to let me finish your life....I shall commemorate this day from now on!"

"I don't care about the fact that I am a prince or not!"

Oh poo poo, Ryle brings his action-face..

"But because of your childish dream, countless lives being lost...THIS I have to take revenge for!"

"...Fine then. Shall I take your lives now?"

SNAP

"...What you were trying to do?"

"You wanted us to witness the power of your rulership, that's why you snapped your fingers?"

"...No they couldn't have!"

"What's the matter "Your Highness"? "Where are the Ninjas?" It's written all over your face!"

"...I see. So you are not as dumb as I thought...That is it eh?"

"...It's the basic tactic. To tie up enemies hands and feat by themselves."

I like to imagine that Ryle looks really loving smug during this part. :smug:

"By themselves?"

"...!? Could it be?"

"Those Ninjas we rescued came and freed their comrades here, before we entered the place. I guess Fina had told them to do this for me."

I really need an emote for PLOT DEVICE

"Hehehe..I took the first blow. Like I said before, I hate wasting time..."

"All your troops are gone now! What can you do alone?"

"But you see, I am the leader. If I loose my hands and feet then I just have to use what's left to finish you off. That simple. Oh and ladies, you don't have to worry about being killed since you all will become MINE."

"I seriously refuse the offer...."

"I don't want someone who thinks of others as toys!"

"Can't stand your crazy talks...Why don't you talk to yourself?"

"Well, well, I am being hated more and more. I don't really care if you like it or not. I will decide your preferences..."

"The decisions made from such an attitude is easily overthrown! You are like a 3rd rated politician."

gently caress you, Flare. That line is offensive to my sense of humor.

"Only those with no virtues could have done such things like; brainwashing, authoritarian rule..."

"Please don't make me repeat myself. It doesn't matter...I'll be controlling everything."

"Then I have to force you off from that throne!"

Stabbin time!

"The 2nd Prince is a bit too confident. You can not beat me like that."

"We gonna see about that!"

"Just surrender now if you don't want any pain!"

"Your future ends here..."

"Is that all you want to say? It could be your last words.."

"I will be saying the exact same words to you real soon!"

Sick burn, Ryle. :v:

Okay, finally I can do a bit of stabbing. This fight has multiple stages but isn't really hard overall. Right now, Xaktor does nothing special aside from punching.

I've used all my party buffs and just whack him a bunch till the next thing triggers...

"I can see why he was able to control the White Shinobi! What a power!"

"Hehehe! I just came up with a nice way to deal with you guys!"

"What!?"

"Marionette Song-!!"

So is he singing the cells at us or what?

"Waa!!"

"Caris!!"

"Urg!!"

"Latyss!!!!"

"HuWahahaha! The 2nd prince dies here by the hands of his dear friends!!"

:ohdear:

CLING-CLANK!

"!! WHAT!?"

"Man, that was a big surprise! I thought he got me this time."

"If I haven't dodged in time, I would have become his slave."

"...Prince Ryle! Was it you? The one who neutralized my Marionette song!?"

"Don't make me laugh! I was able to catch up with the super speed of the White Shinobis."

"You better be faster than those guys in order to brainwash ME!"

"Guess I have underestimated you too much. Prince..."

Okay wait, time-out! Did Ryle just deflect the Monster Cells or did he cut the words that Xaktor was singing?.... Nobody knows! :)

This is another fine display of sudden plot-luck for our heroes, and the childish approach towards obstacles. Whatever the enemies will bring, Ryle and friends will just conjure up some bullshit reason why it doesn't work on them. And this could have been an interesting and challenging fight if Xaktor could actually take control of your party members. But nope!

Anyway, I continue to whack Xaktor with my best attacks till he goes down.

"You underestimated the strength from people's heart too much. And this is what you get!"

"Once you seize and oppress people's heart, they eventually will bounce back to you with the same degree! I don't know much about the royal leadership and all, but someone like you can never fully control it."

"If you can't figure that out by now, then you are not good enough to rule the kingdom..."

Dude, he is a villain! He doesn't give a poo poo about your values and life lessons. He is evil and wants to gently caress poo poo up. STOP TALKING! :argh:

See? That's what you get for making your dumb speeches...

"What the!? He's really persistent! God I hate this dude!!"

"I can't let you get in my ways any more!!"

"So now you would like to fight for real eh?!"

Seems like we're heading into the next phase..

"That's what you shall get!"

"You'll be suffering...As painful as those who were hurt by you!"

"SHUT UP-!! I am the ruler of you insignificant low-lives!"

"That's! The same Dark Wave we saw at the Dannyon Mine!?"

She's talking about the Soul Eater, jfyi. Seems like things are coming together now..

"So this is the one I heard about, the compressed form of Dark Wave, the "Death Wave"-!!"

"Kahkahkah! Do you have any idea of the horror of this power?!...Prince Ryle?"

"Soul Eater is made of Astral body so the sword attack was useless. But you are different!! Even if you possess the Dark Wave, you still have a body of flesh and bones!"

"You will become an excellent food for the low class wraiths!!"

In this phase of the fight, Xaktor is next to invincible. Ryle still does a bit of damage, but Caris and Latyss are both reduced to 1 point of damage. No matter what attack they use on him. On the other hand, his attacks have not gotten much stronger so there is no real danger. Again....

I just keep attacking with Ryle, while the rest does support. I think it's fair to say that the next plot device will get us out of this predicament real soon. :)

"We can't win if keeping like this..."

"That Dark Wave shields him from our sword attacks! We have to get rid of that thing!!"

"Ryle! I'll call upon the Wind Elemental to stop Xaktor's movement!"

Ah, there we go...

"Can you do it?"

"Don't know if it will work out or not, but I have to try it! 3 turns! I need that long to complete the summoning!"

"Got it!! I'll use everything I got for your safety!"

"Listen to me! Winds and Spirits! Come forth to my side..."

Latyss can do nothing for the next three turns, so let's advance time till she does her thing.

"Oh Wind Elemental! Please become the fast wind to stop the evil from moving""

"Whoa! Awesome wind blast!!"

"Elementals! Grant me the POWER!!"

"Arrrrrrg!! drat winds!!"

"I can't do it! With my current magic, I can't fully control the wind!"

"Doesn't matter! His movement slowed down a lot! It wore off some of his power!"

"Eh?"

"Latyss, nice work! We can fight him evenly from now on!"

Again, I have no idea what's actually going on here. At first, it seemed like Xaktor had a magical shield, but now it's like a shield of moving particles or something? Whatever, it's all just bullshit!

"That...drat ELF!! I'll destroy you all!"

"!? (I am finished!!)"*Can't dodge Xaktor's attack*

"Watch out!"

CLING-CLANK

"Urg!!"

"Ryle..."

"Mm! Prince Ryle!"

"You are no longer a threat to me without the Dark Wave! I'll finish you off now!"

Without his bullshit magic, Xaktor is now really weak and I just run a train of powerful moves over him. :black101:

Finally!

The fight spits out two VPs and a good deal of XP and gold.

"Ryle..?"

"Is something wrong?"

"I'll carry the prince to his room. All of you go to the lower floor and search for the king.."

Apparently, Prince Dyss was just asleep for the whole fight?

"I see...I'll take care of it."

"Yeah, I got it! Ryle, I'll leave you here then."

"..Gotta be not true. We don't even look similar."

"Let me see, head to the basement..."

But when Ryle wants to leave...

"!!..S,Sorry Sire. I didn't mean to wake you up.."

"Do you hate dad?"

"I don't know what you are talking about..."

"What Xaktor said is TRUE! You are the prince.."

"Prince Dyss..."

"You were born between the King and your mother who worked as royal servant..."

And now my update title makes sense!

"Prince Dyss..You should get some rest now..."

"After you were born, a conspiracy took place in the castle..I was 5 back then. Many royal advisors were concerned of a possible future conflict between 2 princes for the throne. So they planned to assassinate you."

"Assassinate me?"

"The Chancellor then tried to control the kingdom by using me as their puppet leader, but because of your birth the plan faced a big obstacle. So the Chancellor tried to cover up as you died from disease. I accidently heard this and told the King! During that time, the Chancellor held most of power over the King, and the only thing we could do to save you was stripping your rights away..That means you could not become the next King and the Chancellor did give up chasing after you, after we pretended exiling you out of the castle."

So here we have the backstory of Ryle. I personally think that the timeline makes no loving sense at all, but that shouldn't surprise us by now. I guess Prince Dyss is supposed to be older, even if he looks like a kid? Whatever :)

"...."

"I know you still gonna hate me for this...But there was nothing I could do as a 5 years old kid back then..."

"I don't hate anybody. And my name is Ryle Laster. The prince of Factoria is only your Highness, Prince Dyss..."

"Ryle..."

"I think it's the best for both of us because I like myself as of now..Please take good care of our Factoria. We will support the kingdom outside."

"Let both of us build it together. A better future from each position..."

"...Yes Sir."

:glomp:

Well, in light of this new information we should probably look for the King.

:)

Seems like Caris also worked her magic on that door.

"Yo! That was quick!"

"I just heard! You defeated Xaktor, right?"

"Lady Fina's plan...It was a big success!!"

"Orubia...how is the King?"

"His Majesty is very exhausted but it's not life-threatening."

"How about Prince Dyss?"

"I took him to the chamber. Now in sleep."

"Your Majesty-!"

"Are you alright?"

"..."

"I am..no no, Fina Delstar is here in your service, my lord. I am the daughter of Flare Delstar."

"...Awe, Lady Sacred Dragoon's"

"We heard the dire situation here in Factoria, thus we came forth and found Your Majesty imprisoned here."

"Fina, let's escort His Majesty to the chamber."

"Right. My lord, we shall proceed to the chamber."

"I thank all of you. I have been locked up here for days without food, and I can't walk now...To all the brave ones here, I can't possibly thank you enough right now with mere words. But I thank you from the bottom of my heart..Your bravery and honor are truly exceptional.."

"I am in honor to hear the praise, my lord. Now we shall proceed to the upper floor."

"......"

"(Ryle, say something! Oh well~)"

"It's our honor to be blessed by you, Your Highness."

"I want to introduce all of you to the people in our city as the "Heroes of Factoria". If you don't mind?"

"But calling us "Heroes" is just too flattering."

"If you hadn't stopped Xaktor's evil plan, I wouldn't possibly stand here and thank you. You saved this kingdom."

"......"

"I want to give a huge parade to welcome heroes."

"Please! You can't do that!!"

Oh, snap! :suspense:

"Ryle!?"

"Eh!?"

"!?"

"Wha...what is wrong!?"

"Hey! You are being very rude here!"

"My lord...Our Factoria is the biggest kingdom on this continent..But what if the people find out that the royalty borrowed outsider's help to solve its internal matters?"

"People's confidence toward you will simply collapse as well as the public trust and support!"

"And I didn't rescue Your Highness for any personal gain, but for the kingdom's stability. The role of the monarch is to guarantee the people their safety, but you're NOT doing your job now!"

"You have to gain back public trust right away!"

"I don't want to see our Factoria simply collapse after we worked so hard to take it back from Xaktor!"

:patriot:

"Ryle..."

"That's right indeed."

"I am sorry that you guys can't be honored in public, but please understand my decision."

"You are right..."

"Could you accept my proposal? Your Highness!!"

"............I accept. I was too careless about your feelings.."

"Thank you very much...And, please forgive my rudeness back there..."

"Looks like you truly have good potential for a crown prince, Ryle..."

"!!"

"Eh? That means what Xaktor said was true!!"

Yes it was. And I guess it's fair to re-establish this fact, since only Ryle was present during the chat with Prince Dyss.

"Eeh!?"

"So Xaktor wasn't lying..?"

And now we finally know what secret Hayami was keeping. I also assume that's why she used the "Dono" honorific when talking to him. How did she know? No idea! :)

"Waa?!"

"....."

"I heard it from Xaktor, "Your other son is still alive and he will definitely come here..."..."

".....My name is Ryle Laster. And I am NOT a prince."

"...Did you just deny because you still hate me?"

"I just want everyone to see me now as true me...I don't hate anyone."

"..But you ARE my son. That's a fact which you can not change."

"!!"

"I'm not denying that...but...I can't forgive you!"

"What!?"

"Wai...!!"

"I'm not talking about what you did to me in the past, but what you have done for current Factoria. You allowed criminals like Xaktor to become the High Chancellor and dragged many innocent lives into it!"

Ryle is technically right on that part. I can't imagine that Xaktor was the friendliest guy to begin with. Also, why am I still trying to rationalize the stuff in this game!?

"I saw so many grieving the loss of their loved ones on the way here!! Do you know this?!!"

"..He's right on that."

"Sis Latyss!?"

"Your actions can determine the life and death of those people! I can't forgive such man as father!"

"Hey! That's too much!"

"You be quiet!"

"!!"

:owned:

"Did you forget? Even I almost lost my life..."

"Oh.."

"You don't have to worry about me! But you gotta look out for those helpless people!!"

"....."

"....Ryle Dono."

"....."

"Just watch me from now on, Ryle. I'll show you the true vision of our Factoria..."

".....I wait and see...See how much you can do for this kingdom."

"......"

"Oh Dear Ryle..."

"...Hew."

"....."

"It seems things turned out just fine."

And next time we'll see what happened then! :toot:

Live by the pun - Die by the pun

Good Times - Bad Times

After leaving the castle, our heroes meet up at the Inn.

"Yeah, thanks to Fina's brilliant plan."

"Ahh, not again~ Caris stop "cheering" me up."

"I was being honest though..."

This line could indicate that Caris' earlier lines towards Fina actually may have included some sarcasm or friendly ribbing. It's kinda hard to bring that across in text boxes though, so I'm not really sure.

"See, without Sis Fina, it was not possible to save Factoria."

"Not only that, all the White Shinobi members were safely rescued as well."

"Hmm, Savior's daughter of course..."

"Even Latyss!"

"I admit Fina's plan was perfect, but we freed Factoria by working as a team!"

"Hey, you just said it bro!"

:respek:

"It's so Ryle..."

"Yes. We all fought well."

"Yeah! It wasn't me alone!"

"Indeed..."

"Well, we'll return to Volcana. Then bring everyone back to Lavas."

:downs:

This is the official end of the events around the Factoria castle. The girls that were with Ryle gain two attraction points, while the rest gains one. I don't think that it's really important for you to always know the exact standings, so I'll only bring them up when it matters. Jfyi, Caris is in the lead right now. With one point more than Hayami.

After this scene, we find us in another night sequence where we can walk around or go to sleep.

Let's find some romantic scenes!

In the middle of town, Orubia paces about.

The white thing on the right is an unrelated, but cuddly dog. :)

"Yo! Taking a night walk? Orubia."

"OH!! Dear.....Ryle."

"Hey! What is that scary face for! Like you saw some kind of monster!"

"I may not look like a super hunk, but at least you don't have to be that scared~"

"...Will you be alright with it?"

"Huh!?"

"You are the real prince you know? Will you be alright on not staying in the castle?"

"Didn't you hear me back there? I was thrown out of the royalty! I am not a noble any more!"

"But they did it to just protect Dear Ryle!"

The hint says that you should use gentle words here. So it doesn't help at all! The second line seems right, but it's actually the first.

"You didn't hear me?"

"Eh? Like I said, the king tricked the bishop to let you escape from the castle."

"Then I said, "My name is Ryle Laster! What I am now is the real me!"..."

"Oh, yes..you did."

"Maybe I am a prince after all...But, I am also me who has been living at Lavas for so long. That's why the place has been, is, and will be my hometown no matter what..."

"...I am sorry. Dear Ryle. I-I thought you will remain as the prince for good. And we'll go separate.."

"But I was wrong. You always will be Ryle Laster of Lavas Ville! right? Dear Ryle belongs to Lavas!"

"I won't deny my family background, but I really hate being rejected as my old me."

"No! Of course not! Dear Ryle grew up with me together at Lavas that's all true. Good night then, I'll go back to my room."

"Orubia...sorry about that. I was being selfish, wasn't I?"

"I didn't mind..at all. Actually, I was hoping to hear that from you."

"I wish we can be together all the time."

"Thank you...Orubia.."

Att 18 >>> 20

Orubia is shy and pleasant as always. I do like her scenes since it's actually kinda cute how she acts, but she's such a flat character otherwise.

After a few steps to the north...

...I find the next scene.

"Yo! Hayami!"

"Ryle Donno..."

I like to imagine that Ryle sneaks up on the girls, only to give them a jump scare with his yelling in the night. :v:

"Both Factoria and White Ninjas are finally safe for now..."

"Come to think of it, we actually accomplished quite big this time."

"Certainly so. Only 6 of us fought back nearly 1000 troops."

"But why do you risk your life for others so often?"

"Hey hey, do I have to have a reason every time I help people?"

"But in the end, you will lose your life for sure and you still willing to help?"

Here, the hint is telling us that Hayami likes to help her friends. And since she's worried about death, this one should be obvious.

"But if you look out for yourself first, then there's no way that you can dare to help others!"

"In the worst case, we might all die for that!"

"I know. We already went thru the same kind of situation back at the castle."

"In..Indeed.."

"I also know it's really difficult to save others for real..than just saying mere words...But when you know you can help, you just have to do it...especially when your friends need you.."

"Ryle Dono..(Just as I expected, you truly have the potential to be a good king.)"

"We helped out the King, the Prince and even the White Ninjas! Don't you just feel terrific?"

"Yes it's wonderful feeling indeed...Sessha on the other hand, rather think the meeting with you is..."

"Huh?"

"Ah! What is sessha saying!? Please excuse sessha!!"

Hayami bolts away...

CRASH!

"Ouch!!"

"Oh...she hit the wall. That's rare for her."

:downsrim:

Att 21 >>> 23

So I guess despite being cool with porn and groping, her real weakness are feelings? Also she now is one point ahead of Caris, but that won't stay for long.

There is nothing else to find in the city, so you may think it's time to sleep. But that is wrong!

There is a sneaky scene outside the city.

"Fina..?"

"...."

"...? What's wrong? You look very low today."

"...That plan of mine, actually it was kind of a gamble."

"? What do you mean?"

"I told you that I possess a special move...remember?"

"Hayami told me it is a technique which kills the Monster Cells with a single shot."

"The move has HOLY attribute, it's primarely used to handle the Mahzoks(demon) with DARK energy."

"Anti-Mahzok huh? Then it must be very powerful."

"Very powerful alright, but there are monsters which can resist Holy attacks."

"So if those cells had such resistance..."

"If that happens, my group members could have been killed..."

Of course, we have to comfort her.

"Let's say the move didn't work, you still have Rune Disaster to use."

"....."

"Not only that, you were not fighting alone. Even Caris agreed on your plan, that means she and others trusted in your abilities, and not the move. She followed your plan because it was the best one we got, not for a move which she has no idea of. And your plan was a success, Factoria now is the proof."

"...Thanks Ryle. I feel much better now."

"I expect you to do much better next time."

"Hey- I'm NOT a military advisor you know!"

"Just try your best. That's all."

"....You bet I will! I'm gonna go back to sleep. Good night Ryle..."

Att 15 >>> 17

Well, now it's time to get some sleep.

Before we go back to our hideout, let's take care of some things and also see how our noble deeds affected the people around here.

First up, Fina's current thoughts about Ryle.

The others haven't changed so far. And Latyss just fell a few points short of starting to care about Ryle. :qq:

Now, let's take a short stroll around town.

Dinner Jello will fully restore your MP.

But it's really expensive. And in true RPG fashion, you can also buy a tent for resting in the wild. But the look at that price! Yeah, not gonna buy that for a long time, if ever.

You know that cat poster which says "Hang in there." ? I like to think he brought her one. :)

:unsmith:

Ha, no more free maid for you, lardass!

"I was hoping doing more FUN stuff with her after she is more mature..*frown*"

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck :getout:

Moving on into the castle...

This could be a reference that I'm not getting?

Aside from being an endgame weapon, this is also required for one of the bigger secrets in the game.

You can rest easy, knowing that Hayami is the only one who will be sesshaing from now on.

"I heard many bad rumors about the capital, but now it looks like they were wrong."

Eh, it's probably best to never speak about the whole deal again. Jep, nothing happened at all.

Oh right, I gotta check on that maid.

Girl, you don't even know what kind of bullet you dodged.

Well, seems like everyone is quite happy and we're no longer needed. So let's get out of here. On the way, Latyss learns a new spell.

It hits pretty hard!

I also make a short stop at the VP guy, and dump my 20 points.

:toot:

"Hey! I can't equip it *frown*"

Nope! Because this sword is only for women. I give it to Caris.

Look at that power increase. :allears:

The next item costs 25 points, and it will take a while till I'm going to get it.

Anyway, back to our hideout.

"Dad! Everything went well."

"To be honest, I didn't expect to be this successfull..."

"Caris!"

"They started again~"

"..Go outside and fight."

Okay, now I'm convinced that my earlier take on Caris' lines was wrong. She's obviously teasing Fina a bit.

"But thank goodness we got all we wanted on this mission."

"...."

oh no

"Are you alright? Dear Ryle?"

"...It was all my fault..."

Ah, gently caress. Not again!

"What?"

"It all started because I recklessly barged into Southern Cray and dragged you guys into troubles."

"Dad!?"

"Brad Dono?"

"Mr. Burnfist!? That's too harsh!!"

"....."

"Ryle always acts first then thinks later. As the result, Lavas was attacked and we exiled to here. The incident down at Southern Cray...the case itself could have been another trap."

Honestly, this emo-shtick gets really old and annoying. But fortunately, Ryle will not keep doing this poo poo forever. Just for a little while longer.

"...Like Shisho just said, that was a trap."

"Then who was the actual target?"

"It can't be!!"

"..It was in what the King said, "Xaktor told me that my second son eventually will come here"..."

"Ryle..."

"!!"

"That means Xaktor was looking for..."

"(Now I see why..no wonder there were few monsters inside the castle and the ninjas were so off-guard. The real objective was to lure out Ryle to the throne hall.)"

"That's because..."

"..Fina. Don't tell him "it" yet."

Sweet save, bro. :downs:

"But..."

"Shisho, I was ordered by the king NOT to leak royal business."

"..I see. It's the direct order from the king, there's nothing we can do."

"..Anyway, let's bring everyone back to Lavas Ville."

"Ryle..."

"....Right now?"

"..You guys go without me. I don't want to bring any more troubles."

Why are you drawing your sword to say that? :ohdear:

:emo:

"Ryle!!"

"Dear Ryle!!"

"......"

"Ryle Dono...."

"...."

"I'll be at the inn, call me there if you got something."

Call you? Like, with a phone?

"Better stay at the inn tonight. Tomorrow I'll just help them moving back to Lavas..."

God drat, he even has his emo face in the menu again! But luckily, we only have to stand one more scene before this episode is over.

Let's jump to the inn...

"What am I supposed to do?...I can't keep the promise with Prince Dyss if I don't fix the problem."

Yea, yes, this is all very tragic. It's so tragic that Ryle just falls asleep...

And in the night, he hears a knock on the door.

"Mm? Who is it?"

"It's ME...."

Oh hey, would you look at that. This is another romantic scene, and I really don't have anything to add about it. Really, I'm in danger of repeating myself otherwise.

"What my dad just said...It's not all your fault."

"Don't worry...It's just that so many things happened in last few days, I need to be alone and think it over."

"You're putting too much pressure on yourself Ryle..."

"I don't want to! but I can't go on like this!"

"....."

"Just go back to your room. I don't wanna talk to you right now."

"Wait Ryle!"

"Didn't you hear what I said? Go back."

:owned:

"!!"

"No matter what daddy said Ryle, you were doing a right thing."

"After we solved the case at Southern Cray, did you see those faces?"

"....."

"And how about after we freed the capital, did you see the king's face as well? Although they all looked different, there was a common expression on all these faces...."

"A full SMILE..."

"....."

"Isn't that what you always wanted to see? A picture of everyone filled with joy and happiness..."

"But that's because we were lucky this time, a little mistake could have cost our lives."

"Then let me ask you this...How come everyone was helping you while knowing the risk very well?"

"!?"

"Because we were thinking exactly the same thing like you were! That we want to help each other!"

"....."

"Perhaps it's true that you're the one who started it all...But we are still willing to risk ourselves in order to stand by your side."

"So just relax and be yourself."

"You're actually a nice person with a kind heart."

"Huh?

"In naked eyes, you appear to be a macho sword-swinging gal with an arrogant mouth."

"Hey! Are you trying to make me MAD?!"

"..Thanks."

"Ah?"

"I was...thinking about never going back to Lavas. If I get too close, I might endanger you girls again..."

"Now you got it all wrong about us. We volunteered to get involved."

"Maybe I was too hasty on becoming independent..that I pushed myself too hard."

"You can start thinking about it from now on, little by little..."

"..Ah."

"I'll go back to sleep then."

"Ah, good night..."

"I owe you one this time Caris..."

I love how the previous hero used a sword called "Rune Disaster"

Unless they meant Ruin Disaster. Or there's some weird rune that allows Mary Suewhatsherface to create a sword out of thin air. Eh.

And I think the joke is canned pasta.
I think Rune is right. Like, don't think about the grammar in this game if you value your sanity, but I think her sword is supposed to have magic runes that power it up as she levels up. Or something. :)

A New Menace?

"Let me see...it's already late for today...get some sleep? Or just take a walk?"

This means that we have to take a nap to progress, but let's take a short walk first.

Hey, Hayami. What are you doing with that Catte?

"This cat, depends on the training, can become a useful Shirasoni...(Ninja Cat)"

I have no idea if that is a real thing, but I like the mental image of a cat in a Ninja suit. With a small sword and everything. :allears:

In Orubia's house, we now can find Fina.

"Fina, don't you go home at all?"

"I'm thinking about staying here little bit longer, and Orubia said ok. *smile* To thank their hospitality, I do some of the daily chores!"

"Can you cook too?"

"How rude! I told you that I was an ordinary girl just 2 years ago!"

"(An ordinary girl = Good at cooking, does it have to be this way?)"

Hard-hitting commentary about modern gender roles. :mrapig:

"Didn't mean to show off, but I do have a chef's license!"

"You do!? This means no more Caris' "killer" cusine?"

"K-Killer cusine?"

"The deadly art which almost made me cross the line between life & death, the legendary tummy knocker~"

"A tummy knocker~ But why legendary?"

"Don't tell me she will put "funny" stuff into your food if you cross her ways~"

"No- not at all! She likes to let it out on your face when she's mad."

"Umm~ Well, she has been like that so far."

"But there was once I kinda felt sorry about it, and she brought "it" to me with a happy face..."

"So you had to make it up to her. Right?"

"So what did you do? You ate it?"

Should be really obvious..

"I tried my best to eat all of it, but I passed out after a few seconds."

"Passed...out, why? You didn't try so hard."

"It was her first home made cooking."

"Her first time eh? I see~" *smile*

"No matter how horrible the taste, it was her first try. And you can't just say "no"."

"To think of it now, it was an hair-raising taste which you won't forget thru the rest of your life~"

"But you did eat them for her right? That's what counts."

"And that's it! No more!"

"But you see, in more positive way of thinking, now you are immune to other food-poisoning!"

"I don't want it!"

"Hmm...so from now on I can relax when I am fixing Ryle's meal."

"Hey hey hey!"

"Just kidding. My pride as a chef won't allow that to happen!"

Att 17 >>> 19

Well, that was pleasant enough. :)

Let's keep on going..

The next morning, something weird happens..

"What the~"

"Man..this early in the morning...Oh, the mail dragon!"

Yep, a "mail" dragon. Don't question it, just go with the flow..

"A letter for me? Ok, I'll take it."

He looks kinda cute though. :3:

"Who would send me a letter..."

"!! D...Dyss La Factoria!?"

Prince Dyss posted:

Dear Ryle Laster,
Thank you again for saving our Factoria from evil control and the words alone are not enough...I want to meet you and discuss an urgent case.
I already set up the place for our meeting at Souther Cray at xxday noon. Hope to see you and your friends there and please come it's getting harder to see you in public.
Then I am looking forward to see you there...

Sincerely,
Dyss La Factoria

"Prince Dyss..."

"...."

"But the Prince himself invited to see us..gotta be important!"

"Another evil person like Xaktor is out again?"

"That is unlikely. The White Ninjas are guarding the castle, like that Gohu fellow."

"Why did he sent a letter directly to me? He can't trust his own servants?"

"Odd indeed...Not the King but the Prince himself secretly sent the letter."

"Fina? You've been quiet all day."

"I'm also curious about the content inside the letter, I wonder why at Southern Cray?"

"Maybe he went to comfort the victims' family there, right? Then it's not that strange at all."

"...Like Fina said, something is a little odd about it."

"Odd..?"

"So...Something's wrong?"

"Sure it is!"

"So how?"

"Ryle! You should have noticed by now!"

Well, let me cut in here and abridge this part. Because it's dumb! Fina basically says that it must be a trap, because Dyss can't reach Southern Cray in time for the meeting. Due to the geography, you see? But the whole thing is just a lame attempt at having the player guess for the two or three minutes you'll need to reach the town. So gently caress transcribing all those words! :)

We'll never talk about it again. :ssh:

This is another useless choice, and since the game says that Ryle can go alone..

..I'll do so.

Inside the city, a guard awaits us at the Inn.

"I was invited by Prince Dyss. Ryle Laster is here by requesting the meeting with His Highness."

"Ohh, I see! Please, come this way."

"Welcome. Please sit as comfortable as you would like."

"...I understand."

"This meeting is unofficial. So please speak freely."

"Then please allow me to ask a few questions. How did the prince came here from the capital? Ships can not reach here."

"I rode a horse up to Dual West , then took a small boat to come down here."

"Didn't know boats were available at that town."

"It's a custom made which can carry up to 3 people. And it was built for my private use."

"Private boat I see...Which reminds me, I also have one like that."

Boat-bros :respek:

"That boat helped you to save our kingdom, if I'm correct. One of the reasons which I came here, is to help and comfort those victims' family."

"Then what is the main reason for our meeting?"

"Xaktor!?"

"He was given orders by someone. So it's not over yet."

"!?"

"The real boss behind Xaktor..."

"(Only a few people in upper class are possibly related to Xaktor...)"

"Oh! *looking at the Prince* ...Do you mean the real boss is?!"

"...Are you positive about this?"

"....."

Great, both of them know something, but neither is going to spell it out! :argh:

"...I understand. But is there any proof?"

"I don't have concret evidence, but right after that person left the capital, Xaktor was then nominated as the high chancellor. That person also introduced Xaktor to us. The king and I didn't have the slightest doubt because he was recommended from that person..."

"How could things turn out like this..."

"I want you to go to the desert village south called Cellen in secret, and investigate what that person was doing over there."

"I think you can just send the guards to do the job..."

"You are right, I would have sent royal guards or Gohu to handle it, but right now our hands are all tied up with the restoration of the kingdom. You should consider this mission my personal agenda, so I can't let anyone from the castle get involved. Especially the identity of our target makes it impossible for me to take part in any of our investigation. You are highly skilled fighters who are also free from political ties. Could you accept my request?"

"........I accept the case."

"However, we don't have means of transportation to reach Cellen."

Like what? Is he going to piggyback all of us? :v:

"..I got it. Then I'll be expecting Gohu at Lavas Ville."

"...Thanks and sorry Ryle."

"I know..."

"Then we'll go back to Lavas, and discuss the plan."

Nah, I'm good and will head back right away..but next time!

I'm cutting it short today since there is a big talky part coming up. Putting all this stuff into one update, will ruin your minds and drive me deeper into alcoholism. So let's not do that! :)

I'll post the next part tomorrow and it also comes with a vote.

Who talks like this? Honestly? They could have mixed it up to not sound like they are purposely trying to obfuscate who it is by saying "after they left the capital". Something other than "that person" three times. Or maybe a pronoun that relates to their gender? Like a normal person would.

Honestly, what's the point of keeping it a secret if the main character knows who they're talking about as well? When it gets revealed later it will only be a revelation to the player. That's dumb.

Also, the use of "thru" probably annoys me more than it should.
Yeah, the whole thing is pretty dumb and a cheap way to have the player guessing about what's going on. Also, that "thru" thing really annoys me too. But I want to share the pain. :)

Boat Building Bonanza

"....."

"Oh, I am sorry Ryle..."

"Huh? Caris..Did you say something?"

"Eh? You were not listening?"

"No, I was busy thinking about Cellen..."

"And I apologize for nothing!"

"Why are you so mad?"

"Umm, excuse me. What are YOU doing?"

"We can't start the meeting!"

"Anyway, we are heading to Cellen on this mission."

"According to this map...here. Little bit south from the Lite Gryn Forest."

"The goal itself is not that hard, the real problem lies on the means of transportation to there."

"Just like Shisho said, although Gohu will aid us to some extent, we can't totally rely on him."

"How about remodeling Ryle Dono's boat?"

"You think we can just easily turn the boat into a ship within such short time? Not only that the size is too small for any storm waves. It'll just flip so easily and sink."

Well, Ryle knows boats! :engleft:

"But I also thought that remodeling the boat was the best solution."

"Ryle! You just have to do your best work!"

"You got no idea, do ya! In order to make a boat sail like a ship, it takes at least 3 weeks!"

"Ryle can make it by working MORE harder! Pour your heart and soul into work!"

"Heart and soul alone can't build a ship lady!"

"Sis Fina...You've been very quiet there...Something wrong?"

"I...can't..."

"Huh?"

"I can't travel on a ship~!! Small boats are manageable but not the ships!"

"Ehh? Fina gets sea sick~?"

Haha, yes she does! This is the next of her problems. It'll be a while till it really comes up, but it will! So hard that she'll even get it as an event trigger in her skill tab.

"Not just a regular one."

:siren:

"Hy..."Hyper Sea Sick"!?"

"The trip which I brought her here, it was so terrible~"

"(But how much more horrible sea sick can be?)"

"Don't worry about that. I got sea sick medicine back home."

"Ha! You are dreaming, Orubia! It doesn't stand a chance against my sickness!"

"You,"

"Think,"

"That's,"

:rimshot:

"Waah!! Don't gang up on me~~~~"

"....~" *shaking head*

"..." *sigh*

Okay, with the comedy hour over, let's get to business.

"This mission is a personal request from the Prince, so there's no reward nor expenses paid for us. Simply saying, we work for free by our will, not to mention the risks involved."

"Oh yeah. That's right~"

"...."

"Because of it, you guys don't have to help me out this time. I accepted the mission alone."

I'm not sure if this line comes up because I let Ryle go to the meeting on his own. Would be cool, but I honestly forgot to check.

"Waita!"

"You are sneaking out alone again? Dear Ryle!?"

"Don't get me wrong guys, I would be grateful if one of you guys helped me out."

Yes, Brad. Everyone indeed is girl. :downs:

"By knowing that there's nothing but putting their lives in danger, I won't allow them to go with you!"

Ahw, come on! Don't be like that..

"Dad-! I'll use Heat Ray if you keep saying that." *frown*

:suspense:

"I don't care about those! Are you telling me to choose when to help out your comrades?"

"Caris...Your words and feelings are enough for me..."

"What are you...!!"

Smooth diffuse there, Ryle.

So even Fina knows? drat, I feel really left out here..

"I can't tell that now! If you know the name of this person, then you have to be on the case."

"That's right! You girls don't need to hear it! Let Ryle handle the matter."

"DAD! Cut it out! Or else I really gonna pull Heat Ray on ya!!"

"Mr. Burnfist, I also don't see why you disagree for this time."

I gotta say, Brad is really starting to annoy me...

"......"

"......."

"......"

"Latyss, Hayami, Fina!! How about you guys!?"

"I think your father's opinion also make sense."

:aaa:

"Ehh..?"

"This time it's a secret mission! Much more dangerous obviously!."

"I respected you during the battle back at the capital, but now it's falling rapidly, you know!"

"....."

"Sis Latyss too...? Sis Hayami as well...think the same?"

"Personally think it's better to go along in fewer numbers, so the job can be finished faster."

"Sessha think the same way. But without knowing who to investigate..."

"That's fine with me. Maybe I should handle the case only by myself."

"You almost lost your life at Dannyon Mine...did you forget!?"

"...."

"....."

"Mr. Burnfist, I want to invite the girls to my mother back in Ernest. Is that ok?"

"Fina?!"

"Really?!"

"Well, simply for introducing my friends from far away to mother, for the first time."

"Can she guarantee my daughter's safety?"

She saved the world once, so I guess she can? :v:

"I am not a kid ANYMORE!!"

"Compared to Ryle's mission, it's 2000% safer!"

"(Except for my "Hyper Sea Sick", which I can't guarantee...~)"

"Sis Fina!!"

"Caris, Orubia!! Just do as Fina suggested!"

"Ryle!?"

"Dear Ryle..."

"Fina..Please take good care of them..."

"I am not OLD enough to be their legal guardian~"

Ugh. Now that this poo poo is over with, let's get to work and build that boat!

"Because this boat..."

"Was my BEST piece of work!! To customize it further...they just have no idea what they're asking for!"

:qq:

"Anyway let me check check....."

"I don't know where to starttttttt!"
:byodood:

"Umm, there's a boat making manuel or something like that in my book shelves? Ok, let's go back to my house first."

Back home it is! Also, I was close to fixing that spelling error, but I really like the thought of a little Pixie or something that is called Manuel and makes boats all day. :v:

And yeah, I confess that I fix some of the spelling, but mostly when the syntax is too hosed or if the errors greatly offend my brain. Yes, the original text is worse than what you are reading.

"Is it in here? Wa! Book worms! Better throw this away!"

*cough* *cough* "So much dust!"

"Let me see...Here it is!"

:toot:

"....Actually I've been going back'n forth ever since I started my first trip! And end up back to Lavas~"

Whoa, bro! Mind totally blown...

So, after a bit of hammering on wood or something...

"Why am I always doing all the tough jobs" *frown*

"Go back again...~"

This is another point where you don't really get a hint about how to progress. You may think that you have to pick up some stuff, and therefore try to interact with all kinds of objects. But that's wrong! In fact, you have to enter Latyss' house and talk to her...

"Looks like you're having problem in boat remodeling."

"Of course! No one's around to give me hands, no supplies, and not enough time!"

"Forget about the labor force and time, where will you get the goods and supplies for the boat?"

"Body work is made of wood so it can't last long with salt water, also a "Shock absorb" needed for minimum shaking. Replacing everything with stainless metal plates not only takes time, but I also can't afford the cost."

Boat-science is the best science. :science:

"So the bottomline is; we somehow need to rebuild the body frame of the boat right?"

"Not only that, we also need to upgrade the propulsion power of the boat by rebuilding the body. Only the strong body alone can't move the ship in tight sea."

"So we need a material which can provide stronger support and not being heavy to cut off speed."

"But such a thing don't exi..."

"I know only 1 thing that can do that."

"Huh? You know?"

"It's called El Metal. Its property is very close to wood but it's also a metal like iron."

Next plot device! :woop:

"An El Metal? What about its hardness and weight?"

"Let me see...it's not as hard as steel but can absorb shocks well, and it's light as wood."

"Where can I get this?"

"...."

"Latyss?"

"The land of elves, Elzcrown, if you can reach the place..."

"Elves!? You're saying that metal is refined by the elves?"

"..."

"(That's right...Latyss hates the other elves for making her a laughing stock...)"

This has never been clearly mentioned in the game so far, but there is a reason why Latyss and her family live with humans in a tiny village. It's not too much of a spoiler when I say that this arc will lead us into her backstory. And I've been waiting for it, since it's one of the best parts of the game!

"Latyss, just tell me the location. I can go by myself."

"You can't go there alone!!"

"It's my responsibility. Besides, you already drew a line between them."

"...(!)"

"In fact, if I bring you over, things might get more complicated..."

"..."

"Also Shisho told you girls not to get involved."

:eyepop:

"I thought you already noticed that no one was willing to follow his advice back there..."

"But you said that they'll come to your house!"

"Then let me ask you, how am I gonna go home?"

"Whaa?"

"I came here by boarding the royal vessel you know. To be honest, I sneaked in..."

"Do you always break the laws that easily?"

"When Hayami brought me here, we used fake tickets since we were too poor to buy any."

Wait. You're the daughter of this world's savior. Why are you poor?!

"Hey hey! The daughter of legendary hero can't just do all the illegal stuff wide open~"

"And my "Hyper Sea Sick" went all the way out and nearly killed me~"

"But don't the heroes usually get all the luxury and the best treats from the people?"

That's my impression, yeah.

"Mom didn't let me, she didn't want the title at all because of the loss of her loved ones."

Oh, so poverty builds character! Yeah, sometimes it does and sometimes it makes you hosed up. 50/50 shot, really. Also, this is the first hint about the story behind her mom and the war.

"I see...let me go back to the main topic, then how are you gonna return home!?"

"You mean that? It was a lie for sure!"

"Whaa!?"

"No one is convinced by Mr. Burnfist back there, and that includes me. If there's a single mistake, it could be another big disaster for the kingdom!!"

"Not only that, I kind of noticed a thing about him that is out of sense."

"Out of sense?"

"I can't pinpoint exactly why, but his attitudes so far have been little out of place."

"You're suspicious about Shisho!?"

Ah poo poo, don't even go there! Not Brad Burnfist! :ohdear:

"Whenever Ryle stirred up a case, and even when everything turned out fine, he always said like this.."

"Don't act recklessly! Don't get everyone involved!!"

"At first, I thought he said those being concerned about our safety and as your mentor as well..."

"And this time even the request from the prince himself, he opposed all the way except for you to carry on."

Maybe he's just really worried? I don't like where this is going...

"That's because he was worried about all of you!"

"Then why Mr. Burnfist even tried to stop Hayami and me?"

"!!"

"Since Caris and others are from this village, I can see that. But why us, the outsiders as well? He could have prohibited me to join for mom's reputation, but at least not Hayami. According to his reactions so far, he wants us not to have ties with the royalties whatsoever."

"Are you saying Shisho might be a spy working for the person we gonna investigate this time?"

Yeah, that's pretty much what she's saying!

"Of course, there's no hard evidence. However...it doesn't mean that my suspicion is total nonesense."

"Then how come Shisho taught me the sword techniques by himself? He should have left me weaker."

"...Actually I'm quite stuck on that."

"Then stop interrogating Shisho!! I won't allow that. Not even you!"

:colbert:

"...S-Sorry."

Well, she does have kind of a point. Brad was always against Ryle's actions and that the girls would help him. It has become a bit uncanny, but he couldn't be connected with some evil folks, right?

"Latyss, tell me where Elzcrown is located."

"..But you have to promise me something first. Then I'll tell you."

"Promise?"

"First thing is not go alone. And the second thing is.....You have to take me with you..."

"What!? But you...!"

"You need an elf to accompany you in order to get in..."

"Latyss..."

"Don't worry, I won't do anything else except opening gates."

"Ok then..."

"Go to the Lilith Woods first, then head south to reach the Lite Gryn Forest. The city of Elzcrown is hidden inside that forest."

"Lite Gryn Forest? You mean the one we went last time?"

"...Yes."

"(No wonder her gaze was somewhat nostalgic...)"

This bit only comes up when you have triggered the little scene with Latyss earlier. Jfyi.

"I got it. Latyss and I, and one more person should be enough this time."

"Many traps are inside the forest. So how about taking Orubia or Hayami?"

"Orubia? Why her?"

"Just recently, she learned a spell to neutralize the magical traps. Elves are good at those. So bringing Orubia or Hayami can be handy for this trip."

Choose one girl to accompany Ryle and Latyss. Voting is open for 48 hours or something like that.

Just to remind you - Hayami can see all traps and counter mechanical ones, while Orubia can't spot traps on her own and can counter magical ones. And Latyss said the elves like magic traps. The other thing I want to mention is that you don't have to vote for either of the two. You can also vote for Caris or Fina. It'll make the next part harder for me, but you're free to choose! :)
