A rather outlandish trio of rumors is circulating, claiming that past Doctors David Tennant and Paul McGann will have cameos in the finale of the upcoming season, allegedly in celebration of the show’s 10th anniversary since it was revived.

One rumor professes that the actors will play Time Lord ghosts guarding a tomb, another repeats recent talk that Tennant will reprise his role as the Tenth Doctor in scenes that explain why the Twelfth Doctor shares a face with a character seen in 2009’s “Fires of Pompeii”, and a third hints that the actors will appear in a scene where the Doctor “de-volves”, transforming briefly into past regenerations.

Kind of hope it'll tie in to the fate of the CIA and the Neverpeople. Those were some of the creepiest characters from the audios - people who removed from the Web of Time but still knew who they were even though to the rest of the universe they never existed.

Tennant realized that leaving DW to be on Broadchurch and whatever the other version of the same show is was a bad idea. The Doctor will now devolve and 10 will reign again.

Speculation: Clara is gone for good at the end of this season, and part of the Christmas Special is about the Doctor getting closure to move on through also having a final encounter with River where she tells him their time is up.

That is interesting, I had assumed that when BF announced they were doing stories with River Song, Strax etc. that those characters would no longer be appearing in the series and were "fair game" to use (though I guess that wouldn't fit with the UNIT audios they're doing). I guess BF and the main Doctor Who office must be collaborating fairly closely to make sure neither write storylines which openly contradict one another.

IIRC, there was a podcast or behind the scenes where they talked about sending audio scripts to the Doctor Who office for...not exactly vetting, but for that sort of purpose. They even changed the setting in one of the audios, from a sea, to a sand-sea because the DWO said they were doing something set on a ship.

Can't say I'm exactly thrilled at River Song appearing again, but, as always, it's what they end up doing with the character in the story.

some bullshit posted:

Peter Capaldi's 12th Doctor is set to meet "a ghost of Christmas yet to come" this festive season in a shocking twist.

Sources have revealed that, following the departure of his companion Clara Oswald, The Doctor is set to encounter River Song in the far future whilst battling an alien menace. But that's not all - the duo are also to briefly encounter the Doctor's next incarnation along the way, in a controversial first for the show.

The actor, who is currently unnamed, is said to be just 20 years old, sporting a "blue suit", with matching pea coat and sunglasses.

The source also reveals that there will only be 3, hour-length, specials in 2016, starring Peter Capaldi and an all new companion played by Cara Delevingne, adding weight to the previous rumours in Private Eye last month. It is alleged that Peter Capaldi will hand over the keys to the TARDIS on New Years Day 2017, where the new Doctor will appear once more to take the reigns.

This is most probably bullshit - and I really, really hope it is.

You did a super job wrapping things up! And I'm not just saying that because I have to!
Steven Moffat found catastrophically loving up the budget and scheduling of a landmark BBC TV show in the year of its 50th anniversary "fresh" and "invigorating" and is looking forward to the 2016 series, which will feature many callbacks to, and replays of, some of the British public's most beloved behind the scenes incompetence.
