She's also secretly giggling inside.

Aw man, I love this part so much. It's like, the intro is so exceedingly dull but then the Gnosis attack and I remember why I love the game so much.

Also, may I direct you all to the actual Gnosis theme. It's easily one of the best songs in teh game.

Oh and Mazed mentioned Michael McConnhie earlier - this game will introduce you to almost every prominent English dub voice-actor out there. I played this game before I even knew what an anime was and I have been hearing all of these guys and girls in everything ever since. It's very bizarre that Johnny Yong Bosch only voiced that Woglinde crewman of no importance.

Really can't wait for the next episode. Shion is gonna kung-fu the hell out of those space ghosts while employing her inappropriate yet hypnotic swaying battle stance.

Because the music in these games is pretty great (as we're so very fond of going on about), and as I presume ScurvyKip wasn't planning on doing so himself, I'm going to start putting together posts with music links every few updates, showing off what's come up in what we've seen so that it may get some proper recognition.

Edit: Plus concept art, because I've got a ton and it's also kind of neat.

You'd think this ship with military personnel would know what to do in the event of a space ghost invasion aside from wasting ammo. But yes, the soundtrack is amazing in this game and it's a shame that you don't get to hear more of it during gameplay. I wonder whose idea it was to leave most of the game silent?

When music DOES play in this game, it's pretty good. Most of the time, nothing plays.

Yeah, that's part of the problem. Sometimes just having ambient sound can work very well, but not when the scenery consists of featureless metal corridors and distant mechanical humming.

I played this game a really long time ago, but I thought the reason everyone cared about KOS-MOS was that she is the only way they have to bring the gnosis into real space right now. I also played it right when it came out, so I might be forgetting a major plot point. Of course this brings a lot of their tactical decisions into question...

KOS-MOS is the only thing on board the Woglinde that can do that. Cherenkov mentioned in the last update that the Woglinde and the escort ships are understaffed and missing the 100 series realians that usually allow the AGWS units to shoot poo poo.

Ok, I was hazy on the time line for the 100 series. I thought that there was a good chunk of time where humanity literally could not hurt the gnosis and game one started near the end of that period.

Actually if I remember the perfect works book correctly. The Gnosis, while normally locked in the realm of imaginary numbers, can shift into normal space randomly, in which case they are killable. The key word is randomly.

Yeah, the D.S.S.S (Double Slot Sensory System) on the A.G.W.S. units are supposed to take advantage of those random breaks in reality but we've seen how effective that's been. :v:

I think maybe the Gnosis were meant to be vulnerable to high amounts of energy? That's why explosions and electric fences damaged them as ghosts, but they shrug off bullets.

Feels like pretty textbook lazy writing for a dangerous super-monster. They're completely unstoppable until we press the magic science button, at which point they start dropping like flies.

Well, what I caught from it is that KOS-MOS's Hilbert Radio Thingy is what makes them vulnerable to conventional weapons, but I guess significant amounts of mass can slow them down?

It kinda looked like they had to activate their ability to pass through walls, and they seem pretty stupid and animalistic, so walls and such are a deterrent! Doesn't explain why the combat-trained veterans and the replicants realians programmed to fight these things wouldn't immediately try to get KOS-MOS up and working, or at least use some kind of energy weapons system, but hey, anime.

And I guess energy weapons work because they were using laser cannons to fight the giant whale, so... V:v:V

There's a lot of plot-dumb reasons why the gameplay completely fucks over Gnosis lore but some of your other questions are explained:

-Kos-Mos's Hilbert Effect is very, very special because of its humongous range. The 1000 series can maybe pinpoint a specific area, not the entire battlefield at once.

-None of the army knew about Kos-Mos, as evidenced by one of the higher ranking officers, Virgil, confused about her even existing. Only the select tech crew and captain/vice-captains directly related to the project knew about her.

-There's a very good reason why no one is rushing to activate and are scared of Kos-Mos reactivating, especially on her own.

I just wish the gameplay remotely matched up with the actual story.

There was short flashback that suggested KOS went berserk the last time they her walk around for real, ot at least did something that caused a lot of collateral damage.

It's certainly hinted that something happened resulting in her previous superior's death from what I've gathered.

This game seems like a pretty good movie. I'm enjoying most of the cutscenes and the goofy sci-fi story. I can see how it would be frustrating to play though with the ratio being so lopsided.

I'm also perfectly okay with the idea that the Gnosis are just dumb as bricks and easily distracted.
