so, VATSIM... Is there somewhere I can read about flying a pattern, procedures, the rest of the basic stuff so I don't ruin some poor controller's day once I get to the point of trying it online. I'm the kind of person who needs to read a lot about something before trying it out the first time. Also, does it have a AI mode so I can get ATC directives that don't route me to 120 while I'm trying to fly CYYC to KSNA? (I finally got it to route me back onto my scheduled course and then ran out of gas on final)

I found this neat, so I'm going to share. I'm posting 2 videos. One is a demonstration of how to start a Hip on the early version of the DCS: mi-8MTV beta https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39db5ERsFD8 The second is an actual Russian flight engineer starting his Hip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwuMiBeMuyY Now the real-life version of the startup only shows the Engineer's perspective, while in the Simulator you are doing the work of 3 people. Also he's probably using ground power while the sim is using battery power. But the time you need to wait for the APU is very different in the sim, and the real life sequence for starting engines misses steps you do in the sim version. Also, the APU is WAY louder in real life. But you can look at what he's doing and say: "Oh! I know what switch that is, he's turning on the fuel pumps" Like I said, the differences are interesting as well as the similarities. edit: whoops, wrong video Jonny Nox fucked around with this message at 01:47 on Sep 22, 2013 |

So it's been almost a year since I could get FSX to run, and I finally figured out that a botched ie11 install messed it up. So I'm trying to remember how to fly the default jets and I keep losing my engines in the 737. I get mad and blow everything away and go for an install. Right when the un-install gets to the point of no return, I remember that I mapped fuel mixture to one of my throttles, so that's why it would die when I pulled my throttles full back. now I need to wait for it to download and re-install. I feel dumb, but GFWL is dumber.

Have a youtube series where a guy with an IFR rating does a really good job explaining how to follow an approach chart and land a plane in FSX as he goes through History Channel's 10 most extreme airports. Each episode is in 2 parts 1 goes through the reasons why the airport is XTREEEME, then brings up the approach plates he uses and how to use them to get on the ground, follow procedure turns, etc. The second part is him landing, while narrating and explaining where is eyes are and what signals he's looking for on each point in the approach. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6gMk0hmgIA&index=21&list=PLEAE01218073C8FF5 his Kai Tak is really cool.

Yeah, you don't watch Frooglesim's videos for Aeronautical accuracy. So I finally (sort of) got through the take-off tutorial and I was flying around at the end of the mission. I didn't know how to land (that's the next one) but I wasn't ready to quit just yet since I finally had gotten the drat thing in the air. There was a couple of mi8's orbiting the airbase used in the tutorial, so I decided to cause trouble. I haven't learned how to select, arm, aim, or fire any of the mig21's ordinance so I decided to just go out in a blaze of glory... ethanol posted:I read the f-16 handbook from the resource list posted a few days ago and it has a few priority bulletpoints for mission success. I fly the Aerosoft Airbus X extended and Twin Otter X mostly. they are really nice entry level payware planes. As for why, there's a huge difference in modeling and texturing, plus you can take a cold and dark plane, run through the type checklists and click every button and turn every knob. It's really cool. Plus if you want to do a Cat III ILS landing or use the FMS you need an add on plane. These are the kind of videos that convinced me. Once you've seen someone setup a flight and fly a complete route (with SIDs and STARs) in the PMDG 737, the FSX one really, really doesn't cut it. Note that you can also get things like DC-9 Classic which has no FMC of any kind and is all steam gauges (that run off fully simulated systems) This is probably the Spergiest of GA planes, most aren't this detailed... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvdZ-aVwlZ0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrSdUCfvkT4 PMDG 737X https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=So3WN-g9Slg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=188rAL2bfRY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcaHl-E-0Kk Airbux 318x (this is the newest Aerosoft one) I like the Aerosoft Airbus because you can tell your co-pilot to click a lot of the buttons for you, so it's less to take in when beginning https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsQu-YvGByk EvilJoven posted:My two fav planes are the Carenado Baron 58 and the freeware Basler BT-67 because a turboprop DC3 is super fun to tool around in.
