Infinity Gaia posted:I wish they'd bring back PSP1&2's racial super moves. It was hella neat how Humans and Newmans got summon beasts like normal, but Duman's got to TURN INTO giant monsters, and CASTs got summonable mega weaponry. As much as laser unicorn and fortress jellyfish are cool, being able to summon GIANT MECH FISTS was cooler. Beasts were the ones that transformed (called Nanoblast). Dumans, introduced in PSPo2I, had super attacks that changed based on job and level. CASTs had a ton of different SUV Weapons, but in practice only a few of them were very useful. Still, it's one more way to differentiate yourself from the crowd!

Hitlersaurus Christ posted:Prophets of Motav was an item in the original PSO as well, though I don't remember its effects. In PSO it was a wand that cast lovely low-level Jellen/Zalure. It appeared in PSZero as Sarisa's signature weapon once you maxed your level. In PSPo2Infinity it's a wand with Ice boost by default. It's a book with the Seal of Algol on it, the one that sealed The Profound Darkness. The seal appears a lot in PSO, from the logo, when you summon Photon Blasts, and also what you fight Dark Falz on in the air. The three outer circles represent the three planets of Algol: Motavia, Dezolis, and Palma (Mota Dezo Parm, Muut Ditts Poumn). Palma was destroyed in PS2, leading to the weakening of the seal and the eventual release of the Darkness in PS4. But I'm pretty sure it's just a wand now.

While we're on the subject of unearthing ancient plot devices, how about we retread some goddamn mechanics? Bring back team combination attacks! Certain Photon Arts and or Techs chain together to create area-of-effect offense.

I hope they announce the release of the PSO2 OST soon so we can hear all of those tracks we forget as soon as they stop playing. Because they're bad. Unless some of the new areas introduced in the last year somehow have music as good as the previous Phantasy Star soundtracks (besides PSU).

Kink in the Wind was the weak point of the PSO OST, maybe, but I haven't heard a single thing from PSO2 that comes close to Empty Space Out of Control, Revolution to the Origin, Abysmal Ball, or Underworld Chaos. I'm leaving Tricktrack out because it's actually from Phantasy Star 2, and because it's not fair to compare anything to it.

Br/Va became one of the four main classes (alongside Hu/Ra/Fo) in PSP2/I. It would absolutely be a step in the right direction is Sega made it available straight out the door. The only thing better would be if this version of Braver could use Techs, too. And traps. Where are the traps, Sonic Team?
|
# ¿ Jun 26, 2013 17:01 |
|
Traps, specifically the two EX Traps, were hilariously overpowered in PSP2. There was a skill called Burst Bomber that increased trap damage, and the EX Traps which dealt area damage over time also contributed to the combo count. You could kill some bosses in seconds with traps alone. This, combined with the unholy Evasion modifier that Vanguards enjoyed, made them hands-down the best class. Trap damage got fixed in PSP2Infinity, and all classes got some fixes to make them all better. Evasion was lowered a bit too, so Vanguards could actually take damage sometimes instead of just ignoring everything from the front.

The worst by far are the ones who do cut-ins for literally everything, so they're spamming you with the image window right in the middle of your field of view. There are also a lot of people with autowords in English that are either totally incomprehensible, or full of hilarious mispellings and mangled grammar. There are also plenty of totally cool people who will hang around after you finish a run to just bullshit about stuff, of course. Photon no Jutsu!!!!!

Braver compliments every class pretty well. I finally have all classes unlocked, and it sure makes levelling up to about 10-12 go by much faster. The mag probably helps too, though. Now to mess around with Fighter, Gunner, and Techter and find out which one is right for me.!

While levelling Braver to 30 does unlock the Client Orders from Orza, Lisa, and Marlou that will, in turn, unlock the Client Orders from Coffie to unlock the Fighter, Gunner, and Techter classes, you need to have Hunter, Ranger, and Force at Lv20+ to complete those orders, since the items that drop or kills that are needed are available only in Hard mode or higher. All of the classes are pretty fun in their own way, though!
