I just finished the first three trades to this and IT IS AWESOM! Favorite moment so far is the planet that gives birth to...what ever the gently caress that thing was. I love that this series REALLY goes out there with it's character designs.

Just finished the first trade - ready to get the next in the series. Been following the current arcs on scans_daily. I REALLY hope cheating isn't the reason they split.

I like that the Janitor is playing cartoons on his head while he's slaughtering everyone, to keep the prince distracted. I don't remember any other instance of one of the robots intentionally projecting a specific image- haven't their screens all been subconscious stuff up to now?Parahexavoctal posted:Did you notice that one of the prostitutes was a Human Centipede? You can actually see one (or more?) of them during The Will's first visit. They're easy to miss, among all of... the rest.

Cheston posted:I don't remember any other instance of one of the robots intentionally projecting a specific image- haven't their screens all been subconscious stuff up to now? I think Prince Robot IV did it in one of the early issues. He displayed either Marko's or Alana's face on his screen when interrogating a prisoner. I think the screens act as another mode of expression since the Robots don't have facial features. The bigger question I have about the Robot people is how do they eat? We know they do since the princess was holding some food at a party and the janitor's son died after drinking infected water, but what do they use for mouths? That's a question that has been bothering me for a while now.

Why would they need to consume food for energy? They don't. They're loving robots. Why would they have food then? Well they're also aristocrats. Having things for the sole purpose of showing that you have them is kind of an aristocrat thing to do.

I imagine Hazel will eventually say something like "...and I never did figure out how they ate."

Obviously they just display a mouth on their screen and shove the food into it.

This comic is pretty great. The characters are very interesting, and the setting is well done. I'm unfamiliar with Vaughan's other work though, I should probably check out Y.

Maybe it's an affectation, or maybe everyone gets their best thinking done on the toilet, whether they're pooping or not!

Or maybe it's just based on whatever works best for the scene and there's not any rhyme or reason to robot anatomy.

They seem pretty malleable, probably just form whatever orifice they need same as they do weapons.

Honestly, i don't think it's that complicated. Some robots can morph their arms into cannons. I guess they also morph their faces to produce a tiny orifice for food.

That's probably it. Then again we have only seen the nobles morph, Dengo had to bring his own weapons when he hijacked the spaceship. Maybe all the Robots can alter their bodies, but only the nobles can produce weapons. I also think that we are over-thinking this issue, I'm kinda sorry I brought it up.

To be fair, I think it's very purposeful. Seeing the robots have sex, nurse, and poop are things that you could definitely avoid showing and the fact that the robots do those things makes them much more intriguing. I personally imagine them being a species that merged with technology, but when they did so, created a clear caste system in terms of ability that led to society regressing to a feudal system. But I hope their origin is never explored.
