I'm looking forward to this. I recently had a quite good run with the hattori though I admit to having mods going when I did. *the mods added a new unique unit for tokugwa and hattori that are basically lower number loan sword ashigaru that happen to be ninjas. Good at hiding, good at surprising, and useful in combat so long as you aren't dumb enough to think they'll survive a frontal charge against numerically surperior and statistically similar units.....also samurai eat them for breakfast.* Looking forward to a standard run of them and the failure to kill grain.

ehhh.....The Otomo I don't enjoy much and complicate the Shimazu beginning*which is still stated as easy despite the Otomo being there* but that's probably just preference*and complete inability to use matchlock effectively* meanwhile I LOVE the Hattori and Ikko Ikko.

I have a good bit more trouble with the Otomo there but its mostly because every time I play the shimazu it seems like Kyushu starts playing quite defensive.*also I try not to take extreme advantage of the trade points.* I actually tend to find the Date much easier to play just because of all the fertile land they have nearby. For that matter I have a easier time as the Hattori or Oda being in the center*not the ikko though because being the monk specialist army that lacks metsuke while next to the ninja specialist buildings sucks. :P * Just the way things go when I'm playing that probably are different to other peoples ways of playing.*for example about 90% of my battles are attacking and defending castles without going out on the field.*

Yeah....I didn't know archers could knock out walls until one random battle I lost most of my ranged defenses to a wall simply EXPLODING from fire arrows flinging every archer touching that segment of wall to their death. It was a little.....unrealistic. :P It seems they expect all damage to walls to come from a cannon ball plowing through not some dinky arrows smacking it.

Personally I still don't really use that to my advantage though and I do quite dislike auto-resolves tendency to decide that since you auto-resolved its going to damage everything meaning all the gates are burned down and we chopped apart our walls on the way in to kill 45 samurai attendants standing there by themselves.*this has come back to bite me once when a large army was hiding in the trees nearby and jumped out to retake the castle after I'd blown it up getting in.*

Shalcar you have amazing luck with those Gomuyumi I still have yet to see one in one of my games. *though my daimyo seems to consistently get the mirror of Amaterasu trait from....something.*

If it was possible I would. Mostly because I like the Oda and if everyone is going to hate me anyway why not have the other clan everyone hates as your buddy because you are the only willing convert to their religion. :P Also the fun of annoying people with your temples.

For me normally the Shimazu or the Shoni come up on top. If its the Shimazu they become a real threat ultimately and charge through japan. If its Shoni they seem to rarely get a good foothold on the main land. Beyond that......Uesugi, Takeda, and nobunaga tend to have decent survival rates for me. And the Hattori almost always unify the center unless the Ikko kill them off in the very beginning. *As such he really dislikes the Hattori(when not played) since their ninjas by late game can be.........devastating*

the spring of rome 2
such hopes we leaped and flew to
but winter descends

Honestly mostly trying to win so I can give it to someone else I'm trying to get into the total war series. So that I can try to play this and maybe Rome 2 with them*once Rome has been patched up some of course*. As for Haiku in general I don't at all expect to win, I had to look up how to make one and count out all the syllables several times to ensure I hit the right numbers. Never was good at writing.

Yeah.....I like the concept of realm divide but not necessarily the execution. The idea behind it is supposed to split the land between just you and enemies but I normally applied some kind of mod to alter it because the REAL realm divide in history over this period was between one army(and its allies) vs another army(and its allies) and while allies were more likely to turn on them then they didn't just go 'I've been backing the winning horse so long I'm sure to get a reward for my loyalty....wait they are winning? Quick get my sword I need to go commit suicide against my vastly stronger ally!'. There are some ways around this*as was mentioned before the making vassals post realm divide* it just seems....off to me. Even more playing this clan where usually the emperor is your best friend and you are spoken of like the protectors of the shogunate then you've taken all the land around them and are moving outward not threatening him at all and he just suddenly realizes the only lands around him are Hattori and he should probably be worried about that.

To Glazius yes destroying a gate damages the castle. Which means if its not repaired by the time someone attacks then suddenly your castle has all its gates blown off and tons of holes in the walls as if you fired cannons at it. I THINK it does less costly damage then auto resolve but I wouldn't be at all surprised to be wrong about that its been awhile since I played Shogun 2.

Yeah. I heard about the difference in fall and thought it sounded great but....well I suck at Fall. Rise I LOVE*outside of the fact that one of the factions is positioned in such a way that it basically has to kill its sister faction to actually expand*, the original I like, and Fall just stomps on me and my inability to effectively use gun units. I'm basically waiting for Shalcar to get to Fall so I can figure out just how terribly I playing it.

Early on at least a trade ship against a computer Bow Kobaya will usually win if you immediately go for boarding actions. I beat a technically superior fleet by sending one trade ship to each bow Kobaya and then sending my own bow kobaya to hit the ships actually made for boarding things*to be fair their boarding ships were trying to win a ranged battle for some stupid reason but hey a win is a win.*

*no he didn't mostly post this to see if he could help move the thread to the next page for Shalcar. Totally.*

Eh...I'd say yes and no the Otomo especially are fairly difficult for some people*me notably* for various reasons they start out surrounded in hate with gunpowder units I'd NEVER had the opportunity to use until I played them*and still can't use effectively* and they start pretty close to the Shimazu who might have a decent katana stack by the time you get out of your mire of minor clan battles to get to them. Once you are out of their early game I assume the Kyushu start basically wins the game for them but with minimal gunpowder experience you can find a heap of trouble. The ikko though.....so long as you know how religion works and don't try to over extend your reach your probably okay their main difficulty is just the fact that everything they have is different from the norm. Personally the one I find a bit oddly place is the Date since they are put to the right of the Oda and have a good start and no serious flaws. Their only flaw is that you'll feel like its taking them ages to get anywhere at first.*Roads my kingdom for some roads* So yeah, as he said its a rough guide they probably belong somewhere to the right but probably not all the way to the right.
