hello infinity thread. my friends and i recently invested and we've played a few games and enjoyed it so far. im looking forward to painting my squad but i have a few assembly concerns with my Akalis Sikh Commando and Nisses from Svalarheima. they both have the single antenna in the image below:

however, they both came with the same ear antenna as the ORC trooper:

i asked the company and they said this is correct. my issue is that both guys have huge holes in the back of their noggins like so:

is this right? should there be another antenna for these two or am i supposed to make up the difference with talc powder?

The little disc bit on the end of the antenna is supposed to fit snugly into the indentation on the helmet. You'll probably need to break out the pin vise to clear out the Nisses' head-hole a bit.

are you sure? if the disc sits flat then it won't stick out like in the official image, also its alignment will be horizontal instead of vertical

If you look at the picture of the nisse, the orange painted bit of antenna closest to his skull is one of the little nubs on the edge of the 'disc'

ok, that's what i figured you meant. it just seemed like a lot of modification for something that otherwise fits together pretty well. is this normal for infinity models?

I finally broke down and bought Operation Icestorm so my friends and I could learn this game and it seems pretty great so far. It feels very different coming from WM/H, and I especially like how list building seems very de-emphasized compared to WM/H and how I'll never be 1/8 of a millimeter out of charge range or whatever and totally waste an activation.

My original plan was to play Haqqislam or Yu Jing but I somehow ended up with a shitload of PanO, including:

The Icestorm PanO models
NCA starter box
Military Orders starter box
Auxilia box
Seraph box
HMG Crusader Brethren
Gabriele de Fersen
Joan of Arc
Indigo Spec Ops

Sooooooooo it looks like I'm playing PanO now! It feels like I have kind of a random collection of models, are there any important core models I should get? I feel like I'm closer to a decent MO list than anything but I like vanilla and the other sectorials as well.

This is basically 100% my story as well.

Played my first tournament yesterday. Three rounds, quadrant control, capture the antenna, and anhilliation. 1st round was definitely my best. For the first time I really felt like I was in control of my squad. I'd never hacked anything before but his TAG came so close to my camo croc man hacker I had no choice but to ask the ref how to do it. Rolled a critical and stopped it cold. Later I managed to smoke three of a five man fire team with a shotgun blast from an AD Sikh commando. Ultimately lost but it was close.

2nd round started out well for me but then became a hard stalemate for the central antenna. I used my croc man hacker to drop a mine near it and then recloak. In order to take it I had to move to the other side of it so I'd be out of his TAG's lof. I make the move and I'm about to take the antenna when my opponent says to hold on and places a TO marker right next to me. My cloaked hacker had bumped into his HD cloaked Oniwaban. We call the ref over and after a lot of discussion and rule checking he declares that we both decloak and are in CC. Of course my hacker is destroyed immediately. My Auxilia and his bot fire at him and he dodges both, moving closer and putting him in range of my spec ops who finished the job. We end up tied 3 to 3.

3rd round I went against an Ariadna squad who rushed me with wolf men and I was quickly overrun. He also managed to get both his classifieds completely wrecking me 10 to 0.

Had a great time, looking forward to the upcoming escalation league.

Akalis do have a sectorial (Shock Army of Acontecimento) but said sectorial had Acontecimento Regulars introduced for them as their cheapo grunt instead of using Akalis in that role. I'm expecting that similarly Svalarheima is going to get a 10-14 point winter-themed Fusilier analog instead of making you use a bunch of expensive MIs for your basic troops.

Right but there's only one troop with AD in the shock army pack. A Nisse pack would have three guys with multi terrain, mvs2, and mimetism. And how many more line troops does PanO need? If they made new one they'll probably be regulars with a different type of terrain.

Well yes, but that sounds more sensible than a sectorial without line troops. Svarlaheima could include fusiliers, that would be fine. Nisses could be linkable, fine, there are precedents like Yaogats. But I doubt very much they will be the basic option, and they are more elite than the usual '3 per starter box' troops.

Can I ask what your source on a new MO is?

Right, I'm not saying Nisse will be the line troops. Three Nisse in a starter pack would be strange since they'd all have the same abilities.

New MO info comes from speculation on the official forums.

Came in last place at a tournament on Saturday. My first and second matches were confounded by some terrible rolls scoring only three points in the first and zero in the second. Then in the third I beat the gently caress out of the guy so badly that I put him into retreat in the second round, ending the game despite me being set up to score all the points in the last round. I got a NeoTerra pin and a weapon sprue with two spitfires so I'm gonna look for a model I can put both of them on.

I could see that being a problem to be honest. I suppose unlike an Asura you don't get a nice visor with Achilles so enemy camo will wreck you.

Just wait until non-tile stretch goals hit (I know they have other new stuff we haven't seen yet, like HDF multi-layer walls as a cheaper/better alternative to their resin ones). The mat is great if you want a non-standard size (tile borders are quite noticeable though so premeasuring is an issue), but could really use a few extra tiles for variety and I guess that's where those sets come in.

Premeasuring is my main issue. People have told me it doesn't matter but just today I had a very clear mark on a mat that told me where 16 inches was in a BTV game.

Speaking of the game today, I have a question. Is the image below a legal move? The ref ruled as not because the book states that "you cannot place a template over friendly soldiers". Checking the wiki it says "if the player declares an Attack with a Template weapon that affects a friendly or Neutral trooper, then that shot is considered null" and nothing about the placement of the template over friendlies. In the image the template is over the friendly soldier but he would be unaffected because of the angle.

I suppose pre-measure is an issue, but frankly disallowing pre-measure is such a pathetic joke of a mechanic in a game where you start your turn by rubbing you tape measure all over the table to see impetuous moves, and everyone already knows the distances on the printed play mats, the terrain pieces they use all the time, and objective placement anyways. It basically only exists to screw new players or visiting players that don't have pre-knowedge of the terrain pool.

If weapons had no range modifiers then I would say fine, get rid of them but forcing someone to break cover to ensure that +6 on a boarding shotgun is a great part of the game. Also I am a new player and have not felt screwed by it.

tokenbrownguy posted:

I think that's just a consequence of bad translation. When they wrote "over" I think they meant, "you cannot place a template that affects friendly soldiers."
