This was a great LP. So many wonderful moments. :allears:

Also I am never loving playing a Tales game, or really any JRPGs. So much stupid bullshit. All of the stupid bullshit.
I don't think even the LP would have been endurable if it weren't for Yuri, Repede, Judy, Raven, and Rita. and at that, the episodes where they did the Japanese voice track showed that so much of that was down to the English voice actors.

It was fun watching you guys play this game and it helped remind me of just how poo poo the plot gets the moment Alexi is revealed as villain as from that point all hints of originality that the game had are sacrificed for a generic as hell ending. If the could have just kept the vigilante plot thread going they might have been able to create a satisfying ending.

For all its bullshit, Vesperia is still by far my favorite Tales game.

The plot completely craps the bed, but the characters are mostly likable, and Yuri is as good of a protagonist as you can get with these games. He's not a teen, he's not whiny, and he's not dumb (goddammit, I hate you Lloyd). Also, my personal favorite part of the game: Every other Tales hero whining about how the bad guys are getting away with bad things? Yuri just fuckin' drops them. Kills one dude and throws him off a bridge. Buries the other guy in quicksand. If everyone else wasn't holding him back, he would've racked up enough kills to make a Punisher movie.

I think the biggest thing they did wrong (aside from traditional JRPG stuff) was have Duke as the final boss. Like, it makes no sense. The ~~entylak~~ ~~entei-like~~ enchiladas already all agreed to become spirits and fix the whole problem. Literally everyone is on board with this plan except Duke. They bring up that fact during the fight, and Duke's just like "Nah". Honestly, they should have just kept Alexei. At least with Alexei, it was kind of funny how stupidly over the top evil he was. Oh, and his plan to take over the world was dumb, but at least it loving made sense.

I'm still kind of surprised that you didn't actually fight the Adephagos. This game keeps talking over and over about how you're gonna have to fight it then you just blow it up in a cutscene. What kind of JRPG actively avoids having the final boss be a big space monster anyways?

Abyss is a pretty close runner-up, it basically comes down to the fact I only liked two main characters in that game, while even somebody who hated Vesperia...

There's a lot to say about Vesperia, but really my biggest gripe was how it was the first [only?] Tales game to not have any romance angles, when they finally had a couple that could've made that interesting (Yuri/Judy). :v:

And I hope whoever mandated the "The magic fades away" third act never writes any other game.

Also Nthing everybody else: Kuvo/Vicas/Geop/friends make a good team and I'll probably watch anything you guys LP.

Magic doesn't fade away in the Vesparia world though, instead of using blasita they use spirits for magic now. There's even a cutscene earlier on in the game about Rita and a couple of mages discussing using spirits for magic instead of blastia.

Yeah that was surprising, given how often jrpgs tend to end in killing gods of some kind. Dunno why evil space god didn't make the cut here but androgynous albino did.

Heh, well, I was referring to the story (figures I'd misremember a word, can't keep the picture/portrait part of Dorian Gray right either). It's all a metaphor for non-renewable energy, where the power source society relies upon is proven to have some dire drawback or limitation and has to be replaced at great cost/inconvenience. Vesperia is just kind of weird in that it's technology being replaced by magic, but the rest of it still applies (like all the discussions about how vehicles and the military are going to work without ~~oil~~ blastias).

And, yeah, the Symphonia team definitely left their fingerprints on the Tales Studio's copy too. And Xillia. And....

In the hands of ANY OTHER KIND OF WRITER the Adephagos would just devour Alexei and turn into an eldritch-human fusion and everything that follows would actually make sense because you're preparing for an anti-Adephagos-Alexei-bomb

But no, you have to fight someone who's NOTTTTTTTTTT EEEEEVILLLLLLLLL for the sake of it, because tales games.
