I find that at the end of the day, as with most Saga games, it's best not to think about it too hard. Joker summoned some random mystic? Cool let's beat the poo poo out of it! Some crazy piece of technology wants to destroy everything? Welp we better stop that before it gets all revved up shouldn't we? Welcome back! We're going to head into T260G's final dungeon in this update but first I'd like to show off T260G's new form as well as do a little grinding.

So of course we head on back to our favorite grinding spot. The BeamSword which I mentioned in the last update is built into the Omega body. For a few WP it acts just like a regular sword so T360G doesn't need to equip one. It's also pretty strong.

Gen picks up some nice stuff here. He's the primary reason we're grinding. There's something we want him to get.

I believe it was Pneub who asked to see T260G's running animation in the Omega body so here you go. Very spaceship-esque.

The V-System gives T260G and the Omega body access to the V-MAX skill. This skill boosts all of T260G's stats by 10 for around 5 turns. It also allows you to use the two abilities shown above. Let's try one of them out shall we?

Oh my. We'll show off Cosmic rave a bit later. It's even stronger than Starlight Shower but only hits one target. Now the big disadvantage to V-MAX is that at the end of those 5 turns T260G loses 1 LP and has his stats crippled for the rest of the fight, but very few enemies will survive an onslaught from the Omega body for more than 5 turns.

After a bit of grinding we head back to Wakatu to pay a visit to the blade chamber.

This is the Blade Chamber. Here, they say the Blade God grants swords to all talented swordsmen. But I...

I guess you want me to find that out for myself.

So since Gen is strong enough we get the Comet Blade, a very powerful Katana that also has a pretty solid Multi-Target move built in. I believe the requirements for it are 500 HP, 50 Strength, and 70 WP but I'm not entirely sure.

MillionDollars is a pretty good multitarget attack although to be honest, the Zero Sword is stronger and we already have 2GaleSlash so the Comet Blade is kind of obsolete. We'll still use it because it fits Gen and MillionDollars looks cool.

So now it's time for us to finally enter RB3.

Hi, my name is Leonard. I would like to charter a ship.
:cop:Yes sir. Your ship will be ready in a moment.

Hmm that doesn't look very nice.

It was created by RB3. Optimum data is stored in its vast memory. It is programmed to regenerate itself. That is the function of RB3.
Then, it's its own creator.
Entering from opening.
It's not going to detect us?
It won't notice a tiny ship like us.

HOLY poo poo THOSE GUNS ARE MASSIVE. gently caress!

Shudder

Fortunately Gen was right about us being too small to notice because we are about the size of a gnat relative to RB3.

Unfortunately, RB3 is not completely unprepared to shoo us away. Our first obstacle is these laser guns. We have to turn them off if we want to progress.

We do this by navigating these little mazes connected by the motion sensor lasers. If we pass through one, the Hermes mec seen above will beeline towards us.

Fortunately, they're not to hard to beat and we can take them out in a round or two. This is convenient because they're kind of hard to avoid.

We need to follow the paths that lead us to more of these cockpit rooms. Inside are switches that will turn off the laser guns.

And there we go!

In the next area are a bunch of buttons that we can push to move walkways around. You have to push them in a certain order and it requires a lot of backtracking.

It's kind of tedious.

Eventually we make it through. This next room contains a boss, but the first thing we want to do is fight all of these mec enemeis.

Each map sprite will send you into an encounter with a progressively stronger mec. They come in groups of 2-5 and every normal mec enemy is represented.

The first few fights aren't too helpful, but the middle to later ones are a great place to get some skill absorbs.

Finally we reach the final group against some R&Rs. I'll tell you right now that it doesn't stand for Rest and Relaxation. These guys are really dangerous.

Because we equipped Zeke with the Virus skill and a Secret Board, he can use the LogicBomb skill. It does minor damage, but more importantly, it inflicts status ailments on mecs and can stun them. Since Zeke is so fast, he can use this to stun lock most mecs and completely shut them down.

They don't last too long though when we're pumping out this kind of damage.

Once we finish beating all the mecs we go up to meat the boss. Looks imposing doesn't he?

Meet the MecGod. He will go down like a chump.

The reason is that for being the God of all Mecs, his antivirus software is woefully out of date. Logic Bomb can't lock him down 100% of the time, but it can cripple him pretty good.

And with T260G singlehandedly doing damage like this, he goes down pretty quick.

Yessssssssss. Mecs are just ridiculously good at dealing damage sometimes.

And that's enough to finish him off! He leaves us with one last gift though.

Beautiful. The TigerProgram gives a mec equipped with an Octopus Board access to the Tiger Rampage skill. Zeke is gonna do some work with this in the next update.

But for now, we're going to end this update. Next time T260G and his drunk buddy will save the universe from the deadly RB3!

There are approximately a billion mecha anime references in attack names in this game. Starlight Shower is one, so is a martial arts attack named Triangle Kick, and you'll see a Bit system in a later story, among many other things.

That and to a lesser extent it's blue counterpart, could definitely be useful on a party of equipment based Mecs, especially with all the fighting coming up in this section.

Apparently not! I just checked a Japanese SaGa site, and it's ミリオンダラー, which is just 'miriondaraa'. You could read Million Dollar perfectly well from that, and there isn't a star, meteor, or comet-based thing I can think of off the top of my head that would be written the same way.

He can't. He can take the party through the magic quests, but the game actually checks if the main character has the gifts for two kinds of magic - Rune/Arcane and Light/Shadow. Since Mecs and Monsters can't actually learn or use magic in the way humans and mystics do, T260 and Riki are forever locked out of the Time Magic quest.

EDIT: Actually, checking on Wikis, it appears you can get to the town in question as T260G, but the merchant will refuse to sell you anything. Riki, for plot-related reasons, can't even get that far.

T260G's Scenario Pros and Cons and Party Analysis

T260G: T260G is the best mech outside of his scenario because of he has 7 free equipment slots compared to the 5 most other mecs get. This gives T260G an immense amount of freedom when it comes to equipment options and around endgame, he'll start to pull ahead of the other mecs statistically. In his own scenario he's even better. The ability to change into a carbon copy of almost any mec in the game only enhances his versatility and can help him pick up skill downloads that wouldn't normally be available in his base form. Then he gets Omega Body and while it doesn't have the free slots of his base form, the sheer power of V-Max cements it as the best mec in the game.

Gen: In terms of overall usefulness when factoring in availability and everything, Gen could be the best human in the game. He's tied with Liza for largest talent list in the game with Gen having a few more sword techniques and Liza having a few more fighting techniques. However, like Liza he has the talent for Babel Crumble, Giant Swing, and Suplex so if you wanted to make him into a fighter, he learns the DSC as well as anyone. The biggest advantage he has over Liza is availability. Gen can be picked up by character in the game and all you have to do in most cases is start the Arcane quest. He may not have the overwhelming power of someone like Blue, but his ability to be a strong contributor in any team in the game definitely makes up for it.

Leonard: Leonard shares a body type with EngineerCar so they're pretty similar. The main differences between the two are that Leonard has a Beam Sword instead of EngineerCar's Vulcan gun and he has a stronger Repair Pack which gives the two slightly different stats. The biggest benefit he has over EngineerCar is that he can restore a mec's WP which is really nice. Leonard also has cooler sprites so he's slightly better, but overall you build them in the same way. Give him a better sword and try to get Plural Slash or some other physical skill on him.

Zeke: Zeke is a pretty good mec. Speed is a pretty good stat to focus on for his forced equips and he has just enough space to focus on either physical or shooting attacks while maintaining a good defense. His biggest problem is that he has the lowest WP of any mec at 30 so you really want to pair him with Leonard if you plan on having him use physical skills.

PzkwV: Sadly PzkwV is probably the worst mec in the game due to only having 4 free slots. While the stuff he has in those slots is actually pretty good, it's still extremely limiting and essentially forces him to be a heavy weapons specialist. If you want to use him, give him two armor pieces, the Hyperion Bazooka you get from Trinity, and try to learn Magnify and he'll do alright.

Character availability: T260G's quest is all about the mecs. His is the only quest where you can get a full team of 5 mec's and aside from that T260G's ability to change forms lets him function as any other mec in the game. Aside from that his character options are pretty terrible. You can't get any mystics in your team, and the selection of humans is below average. As usual, if you wanted monsters, it should be easy enough to find enough to fit your needs.

Unique areas: T260G has a ton of unique areas and dungeons. Junk, Trinity, and HQ are all pretty neat dungeons that help to expand on the overall plot of the story which is one of the better ones in the game. I'm not a huge fan of his final dungeon though for reasons I'll go into in the next update.

Miscellaneous: Being a mec, T260G can only participate in the magic quests as an observer. While he can do the arcane and rune quests he obviously won't get the gift. Additionally, he can't enter Omble or the Luminous Labyrinth and the Time Magic Quest is completely shut off to him which is why he can't get any mystics. That being said, T260G's quest does a lot to support the mecs it gives you. You can find some really nice and rare items in the unique dungeons and there are always loads of mec enemies to fight to develop your team.

Welcome back! Today we'll close out T260G's final scenario and face one of the most notorious bosses in the game. Let's get started shall we?

Negative. Must enter RB3 and destroy it.
I thought we were already inside it.
RB3's original core is hidden here. Must locate and destroy it. Impossible to reach core from here. Must enter its program. T260 models were created for this purpose.
So, that was your lost mission.
Affirmative. Sir Gen, please evacuate. Estimate unavailable for damage incurred after core is destroyed.
You never learn, do you? Like I said at HQ, we are a team. We can't just abandon you here. Now let's get on with it.
Affirmative.

The Ultimate Weapon

So he we are inside the RB3 program. It's another virtual reality program like the HQ's core.

Every time you enter a room, the enemies sort of load up as these code boxes before changing to their normal map sprites. Additionally, if you wait a few seconds in one area the boxes will reappear and it might alter the enemy type.

If you'll recall Zeke picked up the Tiger Program from Mec God. Between his 99 strength and his Combat Mastery skill it's utterly devastating. The biggest problem is that it costs 8 of Zeke's 30 WP each time you use it, but Maxwell Program and Leonard's WP healing mitigate that somewhat.

I'll be honest, I'm not a big fan of this final dungeon. The areas aren't interconnected in any discernible fashion, you just sort of wander around from one screen to the next until you enter a new environment.

These metal hallways are usually a sign that you're doing something right. This leads us from a cave area to a jungle area.

The jungle is kind of garrish.

The jungle area eventually leads back to the caves, our final goal is a desert area, it's there that we can get to the core of the program.

Ugh looks like RB3 has some sort of furry software inside. RB3 is the worst.

Almost there.

This is the main screen in the desert, you want to run along the bottom wall to try to find the path to the final boss. Going left will only lead you back to the jungle. Naturally I forget this the first time through and have to go back around.

Furries and ponies? Oh geez.

Taking the path at the bottom leads us to this tree. Don't worry, the final boss is not a tree. This isn't Final Fantasy 5.

The program is heavily guarded. Are you ready?

Here we go....

:siren:Last Battle T260G:siren:

Meet GenocideHeart, generally considered the hardest final boss in the game. The main reason is because of one attack.

As you can see Carnage deals substantial damage while ignoring defense for the most part. It also has a chance to instantly kill any non mec characters. Fortunately that chance doesn't proc on Gen during this battle.

GenocideHeart will start each battle off with Carnage at which point it will virtual shift to one of 5 virtual realities.

His attacks vary depending on which virtual reality he's in. In his church form, he focuses mostly on Sonic attacks.

The way this fight works is that Genocide Heart will shift into a different form after the first turn where he uses Carnage. These forms have individual health pools that must be depleted. Once you deal enough damage he will shift back to his main form and use Carnage again before shifting to another form.

His main form also has a seperate HP pool. You can lower this HP whenever he is in his main form and the damage will be preserved, but you cannot kill GenocideHeart until he has VR shifted 3 times and back.

The second form we get is his mountain form which is very fortunate for us. The mountain form is one of his weakest forms.

He has some MT attacks in this form, but as you can see they're very weak. At this point we've taken two Carnages and our team is starting to wear down.

GenocideHeart's biggest weakness is that his defenses are very poor. I believe this was a 2 person combo between Zeke and T260G. If everyone focuses on him, each of his forms shouldn't last more than a single round.

This fight gets a rep as one of the hardest in the game because of Carnage, but really Carnage is only about as strong as every other final boss's big attacks like Sabers or Retribution.

The bigger problem, is that T260G's team options aren't well suited to fighting GenocideHeart. Mecs are all about offense while having poor healing options. You're guaranteed to take 3 Carnage hits that are each going to deal about 350 damage to everyone. Unless you get really lucky with the Self Repair absorbs you're going to have to heal.

And outside of some obscure monster absorbs, you can't get any big group target heal like you can in other scenarios. T260G's team just has a bad matchup against GenocideHeart.

The last form we encounter is his Sea form. The damage here is from a Maelstrom attack. It's not as strong as Carnage, but our team is pretty battered so more MT attacks are not welcome. This form can also use Tower to obliterate someone so it's one of GenocideHeart's more dangerous forms.

Uh-Oh T260G's out of gas and probably won't be much more use in this fight. That's another thing, if you pop V-Max right at the start it's guarenteed to run out before the end of the fight. I like to use it at the start of GenocideHeart's second form instead.

Fortunately, we did enough damage during the Carnage turns that Zeke is able to immediately take him out when we return to the final main form before he can use a 4th Carnage or something.

Zeke was really the MVP of the fight here. With a boost from Leonard he was able to deal about 8000 damage every round. Leonard and Gen were forced to heal every round, but that's what you need to do to win this fight. You'll probably want to keep 2 people on healing duty unless you get lucky with the forms.

PzkwV pulled the croak chain at the third Carnage, but still we emerged victorious.

Hey, what happened? Out of gas?
No, he finally completed the mission and his program was terminated at the same time. Good bye T260G.

You piece of junk!

You finally woke up? Everyone's gone now.
While repairing the data at HQ, top priority file masked all other files making it impossible to retrieve other directives.
Didn't I tell you? I don't understand all that technical stuff.
I need to get back to Junk.
Now why didn't you say that in the beginning?
You are not coming, Sir Gen?
I've got to get back to my own home region. Say hi to those kids for me. You should get your body back the way it was before you go.

Returning to Junk base.

There's no dialogue for the rest of the ending. It's just T260G going back and completing some tasks.

A Memory of Childhood

I suppose it fits the barebones style of T260G's though.

He was always a blunt and simple mec...at least when he wasn't confounding Gen with technical Jargon.

It's kind of funny that he changes missions from saving the world from some doomsday weapon to something as mundane as hanging out with some kids.

But at the end of the day, it's still a sweet ending.

Anyway, so that's T260G's tale! Now we're going to shift from one of the most plot heavy scenarios to one of the least! Next time we'll be starting up Lute's tale. It's pretty barebones, but don't worry, I've saved some sidequests for us to cover with him.

But anyways, GenocideHeart was a really, really awesome boss and since I used an all Mec team that abused the JunkShop trick, often I would have Carnage just rip through my team multiple times. Whatever, from the sickass music to the colourful backgrounds each form had to offer, this is probably among my favourite boss battles in any RPG.

This is only sort of true. His defense varies from form to form. His main form is fairly resistant to Blunt hits, but every other form has defenses in the teens against Blunt attacks. His highest defense stat is actually in his mountain form where he has 99 resistance to Cold attacks. So you should be good to go to DSC him into oblivion in his other forms.

WHO'S YOUR FRIEND?!

And I really like that he went back to those kids. This has probably been my favourite scenario plot-wise; probably helps it has a plot that's mostly coherent.

Yeah, T260 has one of the more overall thought out and "charming" plot lines. He doesn't know who he is, leaves to go find himself, he learns his mission to save the world, completes it, and then goes back to the home he has waiting for him. It has a clear progression of the storyline with very few "suspsend your disbelief/try not to think about it too much" details along the way, and even those can be ignored pretty easily ("Who made RB3? Does it really matter with that many guns on the thing?") by just playing and not worrying about it, as opposed to stuff like Joker and Fuse being the worst cop on the force. It's obvious that this storyline had it's fair share of development attention put on it, and it's one of the best as a result. Makes you wonder what certain.... other stories might've been able to get done if they'd had the kind of staff focus G made out with.

One thing I really liked about Genocide Heart was that it's health was linked the the number of monitors still online. It gave a nice feeling of things ramping up as more and more monitors went into static

Also, T260G is supposedly female :ssh:

T260 was always one of my favorite scenarios too. Nice simple plot, encouragement for an all-mec party, great endboss, happy ending. I also liked the idea of Gen coming along with an all-mec team despite it making no sense, especially in the last area, just to follow up on his rope-cut trick with the metal pipe. "Don't think too hard about it."

I also like how the game tricks you into thinking T260 is that blue superbot at the start of the game, when in fact you are the SHIP he was talking to before RB3 nuked you, which makes the Omega form make a lot more sense, since it's like an itty-bitty attack ship. Didn't the Ultimania or whatever such book mention T260 is actually a 'she' as well? At least as far as robots care about such things.

Yeah.

This is because ships are traditionally female, back to the Romans (when they were grammatically female, I think - they are in most Romance languages); it's the same reason many humanoid figureheads showed women, though not all. I don't know if they are traditionally referred to as 'she' in Japanese, but given the world of SaGa Frontier, they decided to refer to it anyway.

Just want to say, awesome job Dude. Very impressed and pleased that the LP survived the technical difficulties, and I think you are doing a great job at squeezing out as much as you can from a very incomplete game, and pacing it well.

Looking forward to the remaining quests! Lute should be a good one to really keep you honest...

how do I lurked moar.
On the subject of Carnage and it's instant kill ability on humans, I think there's an something you can equip that can prevent all instant death attacks, including that. I think it was a Blood Chalice?

What? It seemed like
a good idea at the time.

The Blood Chalice does claim to have that effect, but how the hell would you know if it worked on Carnage? It doesn't seem to trigger super often anyway. Has anyone checked the code?

I thought the Blood Chalice just protected against LP draining attacks? There's nothing in the Mechanics guide to say, bah.

Hail all those who are able,
any mouse can,
any mouse will,
but the Guard prevail.

That is a strangely touching ending. T260 wakes back up because yonks ago a little kid gave him an order.
