This Wedneday's Show (11pm EST) at http://thechrisgethardshow.com
12/11 ON TCGS – THE CREAM WEDDING (FINAL SHOW OF THE YEAR!)

The Chris Gethard show is one of the weirdest things I've ever seen. It's a weekly live talk/panel show led by Chris Gethard on MNN and runs on whatever crazy idea he came up with that week's theme. Shows can range from literally sixty minutes of the panel playing a board game, Zach Galifianakis giving strangers haircuts on stage, Bobby Moinihan destroying toys, to genuinely sad or uplifting episodes. Honestly, the main site gives the best description:

quote:

Broadcast every Wednesday night at 11pm eastern from the Manhattan Neighborhood Network studios on the far west side of Manhattan and available both live and archived on the internet, TCGS is different each week – sometimes insane, sometimes heartfelt, sometimes sad, and hopefully always in some way funny. With no formula, no budget, and no mainstream attention, the show survives on the heart, inventiveness, and stubborn dedication of the thirty or so people that comprise the cast, crew, and support team of the show on any given week.

The show is a bit dense at first due to the sheer number of real and fictional characters who occasionally stop by, but it never prevents it from being chaotically funny. Here is a quick rundown of the CGS's main panel:

quote:

Chris Gethard (Host)

Gethard hosts the show and is the architect of the bizarre world of TCGS. He is very good at setting up truly insane environments in the studio, and even better at complaining about them.

Shannon O’Neill (Panelist)

Shannon O’Neill is the badass take no prisoners heart and soul of the show. She goes for it at all times and calls the bluff of anyone, be they panelist, guest, or caller.

Murf (Panelist)

Known alternately as The Scourge of Gimghoul, The Reservoir Dog, and “The Man With the Moustache of a Cowboy and the Haircut of a Samurai”, Murf is the quiet, mysterious man’s man of the show. A fan favorite amongst callers, Murf has a zen-like calm about him that barely masks the visceral sense of danger that surrounds him.

Bethany Hall (Panelist)

Bethany is the only completely sane person with a permanent seat on the TCGS panel. When things go truly off the rails, Bethany is generally the first and usually only one to voice her discomfort. Without her being a voice of reason, TCGS would descend into complete lawlessness. Her presence means that at the very least a sane viewpoint gets registered from time to time.

The Human Fish (Panelist)

A mysterious creature from the sea who is trying to figure out the world of men. He can only process information as battles, and can only express himself as such. “Chips vs. Nachos” might result in The Human Fish responding “Chips”. If you say “Hey Fish, how you doing?”, the bathing suit clad young fish boy will merely look at you in confusion.

The Random (panelist)

at all times, the TCGS panel includes someone who is randomly brought in from the streets of New York City and whom no one else involved in the show knows. This tradition began with the second episode when a young woman named Jean called the show to express her confusion towards it, then took up the cast on their offer to jump into a cab and join the cast. After 15 weeks Jean left the show to pursue an internship on the west coast. Since Jean, Randoms Andrew, Melissa, and Ellen have been a part of TCGS.

The LLC (House Band)
The LLC (Hallie Bulleit, Bill Florio, Joe Evans, and Jon Vafiadis) are the greatest house band in public access. A crew of punk rock weirdos who can write pop, punk, hardcore, soul, or thrash songs at the drop of a hat, the LLC start each episode of TCGS with a high energy sing along and then write custom made songs to capture the mood of each week’s individual bit.

I already knew about Gethard a bit, then heard his episode on Pete Holmes' You Made It Weird podcast the other week and decided to check in on this. It is really something special. Super addictive too, looking forward to diving into the archives.

Watched a couple episodes, this show is great! It is hilarious to me that he has such a personal relationship with a bunch of people who are regular audience members. Definitely tuning in tonight.

From the sound of it, this upcoming episode is going to be more caller based than usual. I might try to call in, but I have no idea what to suggest.

This has been one of the worst problems with the show as the community has grown, and I'm glad Fogelnest called them on their poo poo a couple weeks ago. Calls are really just masturbatory most of the time now.

Glad this one is up, my RGD thread failed a few weeks back.

This whole Messenger Bag thing really hurt, though, I think everyone got a little sad when he left last week.

Would you believe I always need something to watch Wednesdays at 11pm? I just watched that for the first time. I'm about to IMDB that guy mid sentence because I saw him- oh yeah Dwight's weird friend from The Office.

I don't know exactly what the show was, but I liked it and it was interesting, funny, and heart warming.

The next episode has been announced:

9/18 ON TCGS – THE DIZZY SHOW W/MUSICAL GUEST PRINCESS SUPERSTAR

quote:

You know, I think after 120 hours of content, we’ve gotten pretty good at delivering you our strange, homemade variety show. I like what we do and I think from the beginning until now we’ve gotten much better at it. We can’t control the lights turning off, or being sent up to Harlem, or when an eight minute phone call about a magic trick pushes me past my breaking point, but overall I think we’ve come a long way and know how to give you a good show.

So with that in mind, this week we handicap ourselves.

This week we present to you: THE DIZZY SHOW – no cast member will participate in anything meaningful this episode without being incredibly dizzy to do it. Dizzy calls, dizzy characters, dizzy discussions – IT’S GOING TO BE STUPID.

On top of that, our writers are coming up with a number of tasks that cast members will have to accomplish while dizzy, as well as a variety of ways in which to achieve the necessary dizziness.

If you want to see us fall down, potentially vomit, and generally put ourselves through physical unpleasantness for your amusement, tune in LIVE Wednesday at 11 PM eastern time. Call us at 212-757-1393 if you want to deal with our progressive dizziness/accompanying sickness on a personal level.

On top of that idiocy, I’m very psyched we have PRINCESS SUPERSTAR joining us this week. You probably know Princess Superstar from the millions and millions of views she’s garnered with her badass videos and her songs/career in general. She also once did a song with Kool Keith who is one of my favorite artists ever. She is a badass and I’m so glad she’s joining us. She’s also been tweeting that she is choreographing this one with backup dancers and may debut a new song on the show – that’s a recipe for success if you ask me.

Did you just say awesome?

Oh poo poo, they pushed back the dizzy episode

quote:

Ladies and gents, Gimghoul is on the attack and we have to deal with it. They recently tried to hack our email account and it’s sent everything at TCGS headquarters to Defcon 5. We are pushing back our dizziness based topic so we can instead answer a very important question – WHO IS THE MOLE?

Gimghoul didn’t sneak in through a back door. They had our password. That means someone GAVE them our password. That means someone currently working on TCGS has gotten in bed with our greatest and most secretive foes, The Order of Gimghoul.

Call up this Wednesday night at 212-757-1393. Let us know who you think the mole is, and why you think it. We are all ears.

If you consider yourself a member of this community, you’ll be watching live Wednesday night.

We are still VERY excited to welcome Princess Superstar to the TCGS studio!

One of these days I'll force myself to go up to the studio again sometime, or just call in again. Look or listen carefully to the archives, you'll see the back of my head in the crowd or hear me call in drunk at the last minute in multiple episodes!

e: By the way, if you're new to the show, the absolute, hands-down, 100% best episode is the Genuine Sadness Episode. I feel the show will never jump that hurdle.

That episode is incredibly uncomfortable to watch (and I mean that as a compliment). I love how excited Chris is about the whole concept, while everyone else is appalled out how dark the show got. It's definitely an episode that showcases the range of TCGS.

Yeah, it is. Isn't it?

Bowties are cool.

I saw the Gethard Show live at the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival a couple years ago. Gethard got his shirt ripped off and was beaten with dildos while Dolchnakov Brigade played Whip It. Then we drank with the Human Fish after the show. It was one of the weirdest/greatest things I've ever seen.

Next episode:

quote:

9/25 ON TCGS – THE BEEF OFF 2 WITH MUSICAL GUESTS TINY EMPIRES

Last year, five of our beefiest cast members faced off in a competition to see who the BEEFIEST member of the TCGS family is. Over the course of a series of competitions that were increasingly and intentionally homo-erotic, Rob Malone wound up winning the inaugural Beef Off, ending the unexpected Cinderella run of twinky cast/crew member Jesse “Beef Jerky” Vandenbergh.

Last week, Rob Malone made it clear he thinks he deserves more respect as Beef Off Champion. He thinks the world’s forgotten. Well, we heard his call and we’ve answered it. And the best way to make the world remember? It’s time for another Beef Off.

This year, all five of our original contestants are back – Rob “The World’s Greatest Dancer” Malone, Andrew “Hot Dog” Parrish, Ken Beck, Jersey Dave, and Beef Jerky will all vie once more to be the beefiest of the beefy. Things will be MORE intense, MORE homo-erotic, MORE BEEFY. There’s rumors of a few new mystery contestants in the midst, but nothing on that is finalized.

It brings me great pleasure to bring this show back to the masses. Last time, it was one of the funniest episodes we’ve ever done, and by far the most sexually charged. And on that note, I want to be clear – we want to make this episode homoerotic not out of scorn or ignorance or joking about homoeroticism. We genuinely want to explore the genre of borderline softcore male on male pornography via this wonderful competition.

I won’t say much about the actual events we have planned, but I can give you a teaser and let you know that one of them is entitled THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE. Don’t miss this.

At the end of the episode, you’ll be able to vote for which of the final two contestants is the beefiest by calling us at 212-757-1393. And if you want to be at the sequel of one of our all time great episodes, get tickets by emailing zerolaughs@gmail.com right now!

On top of all that, we’re welcoming our friends TINY EMPIRES to the stage. A great punk band with members from all over the country, we’re psyched to welcome this supergroup to our stage so we can all celebrate the concept of beefiness together!

So yeah, pretty much guaranteed to be the most homoerotic hour of public access TV this week. It's also definitely worth checking out the first Beef Off:

More manly-ness coming up this Wednesday:

quote:

10/2 ON TCGS – OLYMPIC TRAINING WITH CONNOR RATLIFF AND MUSICAL GUEST EVIL SWORD

Wow. The Beef Off last week was an adrenaline fueled, sexually charged, boy butter heavy exhibition of masculinity.

This week we want to continue that trend.

I think we can all agree that our friend Connor Ratliff needs encouragement on his Olympic dreams. I’m not one to judge, but Connor seemed way more enthusiastic about his presidential dream than his Olympic one. That’s sad. I want him to dream his dreams freely.

This week, we’re going to do our damndest to help Connor find the Olympic event that’s right for him. We’re going to have a list of events. You call in and pick which one you want to see him try his hand at, and we’ll give him a pre-determined challenge that will test his mettle at that event.

We are going to put our man Connor Ratliff through the wringer. But he’ll come out on the other side stronger, faster, and more ready for the Olympics. Be a part of it!

On top of all THAT, we have Evil Sword coming to the studio. Things I love about Evil Sword: their name is Evil Sword. At http://www.evilsword.com they list themselves as playing the CHRIS GERTHARD SHOW. I love that. They are lo fi and poppy and weird. I love THAT. Can’t wait to rock out with them!

I'm not a big punk guy, but occasionally the band is great. And I love the LLC, they just released an album of 50 of their songs from the show the other day.

Also, was at last night's show, it was great! I'm curious how it'll play on TV, though, as it was pretty chaotic and I'm not sure if the cameras were able to follow all the action.

New episode seems like a good one:

quote:

10/9 ON TCGS – WE WATCH YOU W/MUSICAL GUEST PINK AND BLUE
Posted on October 7, 2013 by Gethard • 0 Comments
So many of you guys have supported us over the years, watching from all corners of the world. It’s starting to feel selfish: You watch us, so why shouldn’t we watch you?

This week – an interactive experiment of the sort only TCGS would dare attempt. We want you guys to get on webcams. Tweet us the links to said webcams. The Man Behind the Plant will full screen your webcams on our in-studio monitor {if he manages to not screw it up). We will then watch you while you watch us watch you. It will be meta-madness on the public access airwaves, all of us around the world watching each other. If you don’t get invited to parties, this is the party you’re always invited to.

For anyone without a webcam, you can call us up and we’ll listen to you verbally describe what you’re up to and we’ll watch with our minds.

This will be a fun one, a weird one, an interactive one, and one you get to really be in the driver’s seat for. It might sink, it might swim, but we’re gonna give it our all and see what happens. Can’t wait to see how it goes.

On top of all that, our musical guest is something of a TCGS super group! Everyone knows that the Dolchnakov Brigade were some or our earliest allies in this public access quest. And Electric Monday tore the roof off with their unique stylings, and I believe still stand as Bethany Hall’s all time favorite musical guest. Well PINK AND BLUE is made up of members of both Dolchnakov Brigade and Electric Monday and sport a unique style all their own. I can’t wait to welcome all these old friends back to MNN studios.

Sincerely, from the top of the Chrysler building,

Geth
