Join SA if you want, just don't make this a huge ex-troper circlejerk. 3) POST GOOD GODDAMNIT. The last thread had some hardcore shitposting. This was one of the reasons it was shutdown. Don't do this, I do not want this thread to be shut down. In other words, put some effort into your posting. 4) NO DRAMA JESUS CHRIST. Do you remember the last thread? I do. You know why that thread was shut down? Because of stupid drama caused by people calling out each other and doing things that aren't making fun of internet weirdos in humorous ways. 5) Don't try to psychoanalyze tropers. These posts are boring. No one cares about how you learned what the Dunning-Kruger effect is in Intro to Psych. There is a perfectly good psychology thread is SAL you can post in for that. TvTropes is a website founded by a guy named Fast Eddie from the death of a Joss Whedon fanpage. It exists to chronicle recurrent themes or tropes in things, originally just TV shows, but has spread out into all forms of media and beyond. These tropes can be anything from a character archetype to a common plot twist, anything really. Tropers (that's what TvTropes aficionados call themselves) believe that by studying, analyzing and cataloguing these tropes, they can make better fiction. Related to this is the fact that TvTropes has forums. On these forums, people debate the merits of these tropes as well as other things that are commonly talked about on message boards. The main draw to these forums is the criticism board where art made by tropers can be critiqued by other tropers in an attempt to make everyone's fiction better. That seems pretty fun and harmless, though. Except that this is the internet. Nothing good exists here. This is what TvTropes wants to be. In reality, it's really horrible. First problem is that of the wiki's motto, "there is no such thing as notability." This means that all works of art are considered to be equal to all others. This also means that all edits to the wiki pages are completely anonymous. You can say anything you want and no one will ever call you out on it. Because of this, certain things get pounded over and over again. Articles that proclaim to be about analysis are actually lists of stuff that happens in a thing you like. Also, because this is the internet, there are massive pages about all kinds of anime (K-ON! and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagan are incredibly huge) the My Little Pony page is longer than War and Peace, and little to nothing of anything else. Except fan-fictions and fan produced porn, but we'll get to that later. Second problem is that tropes are actually really bad for writers. Instead of learning why these tropes appear so much, the tropers just write that they occurred. If you've ever written a literature paper in your life, you know that this doesn't actually accomplish anything besides getting an F. Because there are no English teachers there, all we get are people that want to write things based on tropes. This never works out, because surprise, if you set out to write the hackiest poo poo in existence, you get really hacky poo poo and nothing more. The final problem is that of the people. Fast Eddie believes that the only real type of criticism is that which pushes the work forward. Fair enough, but what this actually means is that you cannot say bad things about anything at any time. This means that absolute garbage gets treated like The Sound and the Fury. TvTropes is a place where young writers go to get a sloppy blowjob that lasts so long they starve to death. Because no one is ever criticized, this means you can say anything. Once again, this is the internet, so this is rape apologia, fascism, sexism, racism, pedophilia, and other assorted things you don't like. And you cannot call them out for being shitheads for fear of being banned. Shouldn't they do something about this? Well, they have. Fast Eddie who apparently didn't know that his forums were full of pedophiles announced that all pedophilia would be banned from the wiki. This led to a long and very stupid argument about what is actually pedophilia and how dare you judge my need to gently caress little girls.  Coupled with this is Fast Eddie's incredible paranoia. He honestly believed that there were a secret cabal of goons that were trying to destroy him and his website, and started banning people that he thought were goon agents. This is completely true. To this day, if you are a known Something Awful poster on TvTropes, Fast Eddie will personally ban you. Which isn't hard to get around because TvTropes is the worst designed website on the planet. You can just make a new account and no one will ever know its you. TvTropes is the horrible incarnation of the worst of the internet, a perfect target for goon mocking. That's the thing, he hasn't gone bonkers because he hasn't had to deal with a new thread in almost a year. I think he'll lose his mind privately now that we're back. Anyway, Writers Block is, as it always was, absolutely useless for anyone that wants to do anything other than daydream about their awesome characters in their epic fiction that they'll totally write down one day you guys. Oh, TVTropes Thread. I have missed you. I remember the Mills Anime Club discussion with Namtab, and the incomprehensible other story with the CRYSTAL DAWGS and time travel. There isn't much better than un-self-aware bad writing, except maybe the rest of the troper forums. Do they still do that thumping stick thing where they make posts that they don't like vanish forever?

Since it wasn't in the OP, here's Namtab's reading with commentary of KIKEN, some sort of anime-inspired bullshit troper fiction about an MMO that puts you into a coma or something. I say "Namtab's reading with commentary" rather than "a reading with Namtab's commentary" because I don't think anyone else was physically capable of reading it; the author knows how to turn even the simplest of sentences into an incomprehensible mess and force your eyes to just slide off the page.From the opening paragraph posted:He suffers fromchronic amnesia, but he knows everything. I think ltd be a good idea to cut out anything involving individual tropers and just post funny stuff from the forums. Basically if there's not enough content to keep the thread from hitting the archives, it probably deserved to stay there. I've followed the past few threads and its all be pretty milquetoast so far

 This is Trope-tan, their mascot (or "Anthropomorphic Moe Personification"). She has a long page filled with such important facts against her as "Her favorite dance is the Caramelldansen." It also includes fanfiction of her, fanart (most of which is somehow worse than the original image), a Maid RPG statblock for her, and a list of what her attacks would totally look like if she were in Super Smash Bros. I remember that one of the reasons the last thread turned out lovely was because someone took it upon himself to quote every even slightly skeevy trope off their Ghost in the Shell trope page, with liberal use of as a punchline instead of putting any real effort into being funny. So yeah, let's put some effort into mocking these loving dorks. Smoking Crow, there's another troperfic link for the OP because you assholes made me read KIKEN and I'll be damned if I'm not going to loving spread that misery as much as possible.
