Vindictus NA - Go here to register, get the client, read about the latest events, and carefully avoid the forums because they're terrible.

INTRO

Vindictus is a free-to-play action MMORPG that uses the Source engine. The game features pretty graphics, a rockin' soundtrack, and compelling stories. It also has visceral, in-your-face combat and rear end in a top hat physics galore. If you're tired of "hurr mash hotkeys" WoW clones and the DPS/Tank/Healer trinity, Vindictus is a game you should definitely try.

Gameplay

The meat of Vindictus is its combat. The game is a third-person action game and the controls (keyboard, keyboard+mouse, and gamepads are all supported) allow for straightforward handling of your character's abilities. Battles are fluid, fast-paced, and depend on your reflexes and ability to think quickly under pressure. Chain together weak and strong attacks to perform special moves called smashes, which deal lots of damage and can stun enemies (even bosses)! Use secondary weapons like spears and bombs to damage enemies and break body parts off of bosses. If that gets boring, try grabbing a nearby object and smashing him with it, or press E to grab your foe and punch him to death. Or slam him into a wall. Or kick him off of a cliff. Or drop-kick him into a bunch of other dudes.

What about defense? There's no Evasion stat to keep you alive: If you don't want to get hit, do your own dodging. Or block the attack. Or counter-attack to reflect the damage back at your foe. Every character has his or her own methods for self-preservation. Learn them well and you'll be soloing raid bosses in no time!

Playable Characters

From left to right: Fiona, Karok, Hurk, Vella, Lann, Kai, Evie.

Vindictus has nine playable characters. They're characters, not classes, and they don't fit neatly into the typical MMO class roles.
  • Lann is a dual-wielder. He starts with Twin Swords and has the ability to dodge, then attack his opponent's flank while it's exposed. On the other hand, Lann can eventually pick up Twin Spears. In exchange for losing most of his dodging ability, he gets to spin around and dish out lots of damage, dicing enemies like strawberries in a blender. The biggest challenge facing Spear Lanns is the fact that bosses rarely blend well and can easily kill a careless Lann.
  • Fiona is a shield user. For weapons, she starts with the fast but weak Long Sword. Later, she can pick up the Long Hammer, which is slower but substantially more powerful. Fiona's real trick, however, is that she can counter-attack with her shield. After a carefully timed block, Fiona can unleash an extremely damaging attack on her enemy that can stun enemies. Fiona is great in solo play because she can outlast nearly every boss. She truly shines in groups and raids because she can draw a boss's attention and get hit without taking damage, or really lay down the damage herself.
  • Evie is the Japanese schoolgirl/magic user. She starts with staves and can launch magic missiles, fireballs, lightning bolts, and icicles at enemies. Later, she can wield battle scythes and tear through enemies like the physical characters while gaining the ability to summon wisps and place debuffs on enemies. Using the Alchemy Box item, Evies can create golems out of debris and place magical sentry guns. She's one of the few characters who's good at support, with a decent variety of healing abilities and party buffs.
  • Karok is huge. He is the strongest physical attacker in the game, capable of sending enemies flying away from him even with simple hits. His battle pillar can be used to smash hordes of enemies; then Karok can throw his pillar away and start punching enemies to death. He can even grapple with some bosses, dealing damage or stopping their most powerful attacks mid-swing. The Cestus, Karok's alternative weapon, turns the punching up to eleven. The cestus makes Karok faster, but negating damage becomes more... complicated. On the other hand, he can charge up his cestus to fire a big explosion.
  • Kai is the token archer. He starts the game with a bow. "What kind of bow?", you may ask. "Is it a shortbow or a longbow?" Well, it's both. Kai can switch between the two modes at will during battle. Shortbows allow for quick attacks at close range, while the longbow form allows for long-range attacks that need some time to charge up. Kai's other weapons is a Crossgun a la Van Helsing. It can rapid-fire, shoot a big explosion, and has some melee capabilities.
  • Vella is a dual-wielder like Lann, but her play style is substantially different. While Twin Sword Lann survives by dodging, Twin Sword Vella can choose between avoiding hits and countering them. A Vella with Twin Swords can happily spend all of her time up in a boss's business, repeatedly countering its attacks without taking damage. A Twin Sword Vella can also stand back and reflect a ranged opponent's projectiles back at them for massive damage. Chainblade Vella is a much different beast: Using chains means losing the ability to counterattack, but their impressive reach allows Vella to stay out of a boss's melee range while still dishing out lots of pain. Chainblades also give Vella access to a few utility moves, such as a knockdown ability and two attacks that can lock bosses in place.
  • Hurk is a greatsword user who can chain attacks together even after his stamina runs out, making him a very aggressive character. He has two methods of avoiding damage - Deflection, where he uses his gigantic sword to parry an attack and get a damage bonus for the followup smash, and Impenetrable, a buff that is applied to the character after one of his two dodges. His dodges and smashes also move him very far, making him extremely mobile.
  • Lynn is a Not-Chinese spear princess. The long reach of her weapon and the agility of her movements means she can easily hit enemies and pole-vault away without getting hit. Her specialty is stacking the "Swift Assassin" debuff on enemies and then detonating the stacks with "Five-Finger Death" to cause massive damage, inflict stun, and restore her own stamina.
  • Arisha, the newest character, is a sword wizard. By attacking, she charges stat unique to her called MP. When she has some MP, she can empower her sword to deal a non-stop flurry of smashes. She can also send out a mana crystal, hit enemies a bunch with her sword to empower said mana crystal, then make the crystal explode to cause damage to nearby enemies. Arisha also has a few spells that cause explosions, allow for teleportation, and can even stop time for enemies for several seconds.

Story

Yes, this game has a story. With the addition of Season 2, it has two stories. The stories are alright. The plot of Season 1 centers around your activities as a mercenary with the Crimson Blades, fighting to protect the village of Colhen from the demi-human Fomors. Season 2 takes place in a parallel universe where you quit merc work after a month and move to the pirate town of Malina to become a treasure hunter. Along the way, you find some treasure and it's honestly rather boring. Season 3 continues the story of Season 1, but as of this writing we don't know where it's going. What an exciting time to be alive.

All of this story and plot and character development aren't hugely important and is simply a series of excuses to send you to...

Dungeons and Raids

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SdM_TdMHFA&hd=1

All of the PvE in Vindictus happens in instanced dungeons. Up to four people can form a party for a normal dungeon and run through it to kill enemies and bosses, find treasure, negotiate hazards, and basically have a grand old time. For raids, six, eight, or twenty-four people can join in. A few raids are even designed to be done solo. Raids are tons of fun because they're all about beating the crap out of gigantic bosses that will kill you dead if you're dumb. They're also quite rewarding, as bosses can drop valuable crafting materials. You might even strike it rich by picking up an ultra-rare drop from an end-game boss!

Guilds

Vindictus's guild system allows you, oh goony person, to chat with other goony persons about random poo poo and maybe organize a raid. Guilds themselves have experience levels and unlocking higher levels gets you rewards like bonuses to experience and discounts on improving your equipment. It is very good to be in a guild.

The guilds to know are:
  • West - diabetic dogs (Official Goon Guild)
  • East - FartLords (Official, but not active), Disgusting Duo (Pubbie, Goon-Friendly), Lion Heart (same)
Ask in the thread about guilds before applying to join anything, so you can be directed to the guild that best fits your needs.

How To Get Started

Are you excited as hell about playing this game? Good. Go to the Vindictus client download page and start downloading that client. Register for an account if you don't have one. Alternatively, you can install the client through Steam, but running Vindictus through Steam is a bit iffy.

Once the game is running, log in and make a character. Run through the prologue at least once so you understand a bit about the controls, how to fight, and the plot. Once you're out of the prologue, you can name your character and set his/her appearance. Congratulations, you now have a real character and have some measure of control over yourself! Start visiting NPCs, get some quests, and head to the docks to do battles.

Once you're settled in, look to the lower-right corner of the screen for an icon that looks like this: . That's the button for the Guild window. Go to the Search Guilds tab and look for the resident guild for whatever server you're on. Send in an application, post your in-game name in this thread, and someone will accept you eventually. From there, any guild worth being in will guide you through the tougher battles and give you advice and maybe even free stuff. Who knows? It doesn't hurt to ask so long as you don't ask for too much at once.

Note that depending on which goon guild you're applying to, you should either post before you apply or post immediately after you apply. Some admins are quick to reject mystery applicants because spending a week asking "who dis is" gets old quickly.

Now that you're well on your way to kicking all the Fomor asses, read up on...

ADVANCED TOPICS

Skills

Skills are an integral part of Vindictus gameplay. They grant special abilities or increase your precious numbers. Run battles to earn AP, then spend that AP to level up your skills in the Skill window. Some skills require other skills to be at a minimum rank; this will be indicated in the skill description. Some skills you should prioritize:
  • Defensive skills - These will keep you alive. Focus on the dodge and blocking skills specific to your character before going for the generic Defense Mastery.
  • Offensive skills - Improves your damage output, with different skills boosting the effectiveness of different attacks. Start with attack skills specific to your character, then raise Smash Mastery and Critical Hit Mastery. Fun fact: Some smashes get additional abilities if you reach a certain rank with them. Pay attention to skill descriptions to find out which ones do this.
  • Battle Respiration and Stamina Mastery - Lets you smash for longer before needing to back off and recover stamina
  • Standing Endurance - Reduces the likelihood of being knocked down by an attack
  • Campfire - Making a campfire in dungeons allows you to repair, regenerate, and obtain two buffs; one increases your damage and the other regenerates your armor's health. Higher levels of Campfire make the buffs better. Good for team players, nearly essential for Fionas in any situation.
  • Life Flare - Grants a chance to not die when hit by an otherwise fatal blow. When maxed out, has a base 1-in-3 chance of saving your life.
  • Weight Mastery - Increases your effective weight limit, which lets you wear heavier gear. Not important for Evie or Arisha until the 60s, however.
You can earn an infinite amount of AP over your character's life so you can't gimp yourself permanently. Nevertheless, it's a bad idea to level Meditation, the skill that periodically grants free AP. No, seriously: a while ago, someone figured out that it takes a couple of years for maxed-out Meditation to pay for itself. You can get it at rank F for free, but don't bother with it after that unless you have nothing else to spend AP on.

Crafting

Most of the equipment in Vindictus has to be crafted, and most of it is (was) crafted by specific NPCs. Recipes for new weapons, armor, and jewelry are unlocked the first time you finish particular battles. Existing in parallel is the Expertise system, which allows players to craft items of a specific type so long as they have the minimum skill level. The expertises are:
  • Weaponsmithing - Longswords and long hammers (Fiona), twin swords (Lann and Vella), twin spears (Lann), battle pillars and cestuses (Karok), battle scythes (Evie), chainblades (Vella), greatswords (Hurk), glaives (Lynn), spellswords (Arisha)
  • Armorsmithing - Heavy armor, plate armor, light armor, shields
  • Tailoring - Cloth armor, including some unique cosmetic clothing that NPCs cannot make
  • Goldsmithing - Jewelry, staves (Evie), bows and crossguns (Kai), Foci (Arisha)
  • Cooking - Campfire food (eat it before going into battle) and pet food
  • Gathering - A Season Two skill that lets you gather from Luminary trees in S2 dungeons. You can get fruit (nearly worthless), orbs (for crafting equipment), and various Elemental Stone ingredients.
A character can have Cooking, Gathering, and one equipment expertise. This means that if you have, say, an Evie, you can't double-dip and make both staves and scythes for yourself. Expertises have a few special features that make them worth grinding:
  • You can craft gear that you haven't yet unlocked with an NPC
  • You can craft gear that you can't use (but can sell or give to friends)
  • You can create high-quality gear (up to four stars), whereas NPCs can only craft two-star gear
  • Leveling an expertise unlocks the ability to dismantle gear and craft element stones
Leveling an expertise is expensive and time-consuming. Don't do it unless you're rich and bored.

PvP

There are several PvP modes available:
  • Duels - Fight other people on the party boat or in dungeons. This is stupid; nobody does it except for the nightly PvP boat that no one joins.
  • Deathmatch - 1v1 and group PvP. Rewards participants with Triumph Medals. Medals can be exchanged for PvP gear that's good if you like deathmatch. With the 'Vindictus Under Siege' update, Triumph medals can be exchanged for artifacts (very short-term buff items) and little weapon icons that show up next to your name.
  • Boss Brawl - Summon bosses to fight for you. Fight other players and their bosses. Rewards participants with Combat Seals, which can be exchanged for scrolls that let you summon other bosses. Swell.
  • Capture the Relic - It's Capture the Flag. No idea what the rewards are.
  • Fruit Fight - Strips you of your gear and lets you smash fruit in a 2v2 arena. Rewards participants with Sports Day Trophies, which can be redeemed for a little fruit icon that shows up next to your name.
  • Siege Match - Two teams try to destroy the opposing team's guardian statue with bombs and catapult stones. Rewards with Triumph medals.
All PvP in Vindictus is optional and consensual. No invading other peoples' raids, sorry.

Upgrading

Your equipment can be upgraded in several ways. They are designed to separate you from your in-game gold, real-life money, and your sanity.
  • Enhancing - Applied to weapons and armor. Using enhancement stones and some gold, you can increase the enhance rank of your equipment up to +15. Going from +0 to +3 always works. Going to +4 or +5 can fail, and doing so reduces the rank by one. Going to +6, +7, or +8 can fail; failure will reset the rank to +0. Failing when going to +9 or higher can destroy the item. If you buy enhancement runes from the cash shop, you can prevent bad effects on failures up to +10.
  • Enchanting - Applied to weapons, armor, and jewelry. Find an enchant scroll and bring it to Brynn to have its enchantment transferred to a piece of equipment. Then watch as the enchantment fails and you lose the scroll and possibly the equipment as well. Cash shop runes prevent equipment destruction but are wasted on rank A enchantments or worse since those won't destroy equipment.
  • Power Infusion - Applied to weapons, armor, and jewelry. In exchange for some kind of element stone and some AP, you can grant a random "bonus" to a piece of equipment. Bonus is in scare quotes because the bonus can be bad. On the plus side, the bonus is the only bad thing that can happen to your gear. If you don't like what you got, try again! You're only limited by how much gold and AP you have!
I'm not going to lie: most of this stuff will drive you fucknuts unless you're wealthy in both gold and real life cash money. Try saving up to buy pre-upgraded stuff from other players.

Commerce and Trade

Nearly all trade is conducted via the marketplace. The marketplace, present in all towns, is a place to dump poo poo you don't want but others might. Most items can be bought or sold through the marketplace. You cannot trade items bound to you. You cannot trade most cash shop items. You cannot trade empty dye ampoules, though those filled with dye can be sold.

A special note on Enchant Scrolls: scrolls have expiration dates and cannot be placed on the market. If you want to sell your enchant scrolls, post on the Vindictus forums or watch megaphone chat for people buying the scroll you're selling. Then, send your goods by COD mail. It can be useful to watch chat for a while to get an idea of what an enchant scroll is worth so you don't get screwed.

Fashion?!?!

Vindictus has a robust set of cosmetic dyes, clothing, hairstyles, underwear, tattoos, make-up, and so on and forth. The more creative and fashionable players have combined these to make their characters look fabulous as gently caress. The not-as-creative ones dye their poo poo whatever colors they can find.

There's no wrong way to decorate your character, so go hog wild.

I asked in the previous thread and got no response from admins; I assume LAS is dead. I left it in the OP because there was talk of people applying to join, but no talk of applications being ignored for weeks on end.

I would advise new players to pay attention to who else is posting about playing on their server and add them to their Friends list. If enough goons friend each other, try forming a goon guild.

Those fuckers over at Nexon sprung a secret update on us.

Dissatisfied with your performance? Your endurance not what it used to be? Wish you could thrust your javelin harder, perform better, and last longer on the battlefield? The limited time Demonic Necklace can help! Scavenged straight from the bowels of hell, this prized medallion will give you the extra oomph to last all night... fighting battles with the Fomors. Really! There’s all sorts of science to back it up!

So What’s It Do?
All joking aside, the Demonic Necklace uses demonic energy to alter a weapon’s primary stat and make it equivalent to the +10 version of the weapon. The conversion only works when both items are equipped, and the demonic energy powering the necklace runs out after 30 days.

Demonic Necklaces are only on sale from September 25th through October 8th. Put one on, and the next time you run into a Fomor, you’ll do it with an ultra-confident swagger.

quote:

Ballistae, and catapults, and siege bombs, heck yeah!
Our newest PvP mode throws you into the arena in two teams of 12. The goal? Destroy the other team’s Guardian Statue. The problem? The statues are nestled safely behind sturdy castle walls. The wickedly delightful, blissfully destructive solution? Ballistae, and catapults, and siege bombs. Heck, yeah!

The new Siege Match requires teamwork, strategy, and an understanding of the new environmental weaponry to win. You’re on your own for the first two, but here’s a rundown of how it all works.

Game Rules:

The first team to destroy the other team’s Guardian Statue wins.
The game ends after 20 minutes.
If no one’s destroyed a Guardian Statue at the 20 minute mark, the game ends in a tie.
If you become incapacitated, you’ll respawn in your team’s base in 20 seconds.

Game Siege Bombs:

Siege Bombs prime automatically and explode 10 seconds after being used.
Siege Bombs are found in the central area. Only one can be equipped at a time.
Siege Bombs are primarily used to destroy castle gates.
Siege Bombs deal 2,000 damage.

Catapults:

Catapults have 10 shots initially.
More ammo can be found in surrounding areas.
Catapults deal 2,000 damage to enemies in a 200 meter radius around them.
If you’re hit by a catapult, you lose 10% of your armor.

Ballistae:

Ballistae have 20 shots initially.
More ammo can be found in surrounding areas.
Ballistae deal 15,000 damage.
If you’re hit by a ballista, you lose 20% of your armor.

Guardian Statues:

When you’re near a Guardian Statue, all of your HP will be restored. Your armor will be repaired by 20%.
Guardian Statues have 100,000 HP and 8,000 DEF.
When a statue is destroyed, the match ends.

Rewards:

The winning team gets 3 Triumph Medals.
The losing team gets 1 Triumph Medal.
If the match ends in a draw, both teams get 1 Triumph Medal.

New PVP Rewards

Artifacts give you a unique ability that can be used during combat.

Emblems are special medallions that appear over your name or next to your title. Each emblem has a special design, based around a weapon type.

Triumph medals also come from Deathmatch, so this is another way to get PvP gear. Conversely, deathmatch will allow you to farm for emblems and artifacts.

Of course you can get numbers you already have or numbers that are not on your board but still there is a really good chance for a blackout. Ends the 23rd.
S1 Dailies with multiple bosses will give multiple tickets. Blood Prince is a daily today and each miniboss drops a ticket. The Five Spider Brothers is also a daily and each brother drops a ticket.

Clothes from the outfitter's shop have their own wardrobe slots but they cost real money and the selection is poor. To wear normal equipment as cosmetics, you need a fusion rune from the cash shop to bind one item's appearance to another item's stats.

Season 2 dungeons are more open and slightly less linear than season 1 dungeons. You need to use the map (H) to find your way around and hit each boss. If you're questing, there are S1-ish versions of the S2 dungeons that only contain one or two bosses.

As for Fiona vs. Vella: stick to what makes you happy, but consider holding off on feeling stuff like "regret" since you're playing an MMO and you're going to waste time no matter who you're playing as.

Dear Richard Players,
We have encountered an issue that allowed players to enhance items at an incredibly high level with little to no consequence. Not only did this cause an influx of high level equipment, but also some very rare items from “failed” enhancements. We understand how this could be a huge impact to the community, so we took action to temporarily close game servers to fix this issue. However, the fixing the system was only part of the actions we have taken regarding this. The following actions have been taken:
  • A large portion of the abused items has been deleted
  • The inventory of those who abused the system has been rolled back to an earlier time (on the day of 11/20) before the abuse took place
  • Some players may receive back some items used to enhance the items
  • Some players may receive their original equipment (prior to using the enhancement glitch)
  • Temporary suspensions have be applied on certain players to restore and/or investigate their inventory
  • Players who did not take part in this will not experience any rollbacks, suspensions, or item deletions
We hope that people accept our deepest apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused, and we feel that the actions we have taken above are fair. We’d like to thank the Vindictus community for being active and informing us of this issue in the forums and in-game. Because of you, we were able to quickly identify the issue before it became too widespread.

Those wacky devs are up to shenanigans.

quote:

Season 1 is going to be adjusted in order to smooth out the leveling process for new players. This will also bring changes to some of the details of the story for season 1. Not a lot though, as the ending will remain the same. [for example; instead of encountering kobolds in Hoarfrost by coincidence, the player will be on an official mission from the Royal Army.

Map sectors for season 1 will also be reduced in order to decrease the time it takes to reach the boss of each battle.

The reason for planning new adjustments for characters was because old characters were having trouble handling new battles with their current functionality.

The adjustments will come in two separate updates and those first in line are Fiona, Evie, and Vella. [Pillar Karok will come in the second update]
Hooray for wasting less time running down hallways, and I guess hooray for the devs realizing that newer characters are a lot more fun to play than the older characters.

quote:

-Fiona

The devs found that the biggest problem with Fiona was that the process of swinging normal attacks for a smash took so long that normal mobs are dead and bosses tend to move away before she can attack.

To handle this problem they implemented a new skill: Shield Dash

Shield Dash is a skill for dashing at a quick speed. This skill can be used twice for each use and the distance two dashes cover is equivalent of a Shield Charge. It is an SP skill but can be used easily since it consumes little SP and has a short cooldown.

Along with Shield Dash, Focal Point has been adjusted so that it will cover a wider range and deal more damage. Focal Point will also be able to be used in conjunction with Shield Dash.

When used with Shield Dash, Focal Point will consume half of its original SP cost and the preparation motion will be skipped thus allowing a quick attack. This combo, with the improved Focal Point, will greatly aid in fighting normal monsters and bosses that tend to move a lot.

Shield Charge has been adjusted as well. It currently deals damage only once, but the adjusted version will deal damage four times with less damage for each hit. Of course, getting in all four hits will result in higher damage than before. Additionally, Slashing High will be applied after Shield Charge.

The taunt for large shield has been adjusted to draw attacks from the boss for a certain time period opposed to a single attack. The current method doesn’t have much impact compared to Karok’s Shout, which can be used for Clash.

Long Sword will receive a new small shield SP skill, Shield Enhance. An SP skill that applies a buff that increases the damage of Fiona’s second counter attack for its duration. This is meant to be used for bosses that only give a small timeframe to attack or those that move constantly.

Although using Counter Attack while Shield Enhance is up will deal more damage than Amaranth Kick, as it is an SP skill, it can’t be spammed thus used strategically.

Long Hammer will be adjusted to have its playstyle more centered on Slashing High. The follow-up smash for Butterfly Swing will be changed while Slashing High is up.

Butterfly Swing’s follow-up smash will stay the same without Slashing High. While Slashing High is up the follow-up smash will be changed to a different attack with wider range, better mobility, and more damage. But it can only repeat twice, and after that the last follow-up smash is Stigma Hammer which can be charged at twice the speed it currently charges.

Normal Stigma Hammer can’t be charged though. The only way to charge Stigma Hammer after the adjustment will be as a follow up smash after Butterfly Swing with Slashing High on.

Honeybee Sting’s damage and SP gain will be greatly increased. When you’re low on SP while waiting for a chance to attack you can use Honeybee Sting to deal damage and quickly stack SP.

Long Hammer’s normal swings will have a wider range than the weapon’s actual length like smashes. This is intended to aid Long Hammers in handling normal monsters.
They're making some drastic changes to the way Fiona plays. There are more offensive options but fighting is going to be more complicated.

quote:

-Staff Evie

The Casting Save system has been adjusted to further aid Staff Evie’s difficulty in handling bosses with a lot of movement.

Saved spells can be used while moving and, unlike now, saved spells can be casted during the finishing motion after casting a spell. So with this change a Staff Evie can cast a spell with Focus and then chain saved spells resulting in a 4-spell combo.

In addition, a new buff SP skill named Focus Streak will be added. This buff allows Evie to start Focus on the same level as the spell she just casted.

For example if Evie casts a fourth tier Focus spell with Focus Streak up, holding on to the smash button will have her immediately start a new Focus on the fourth tier. Focus Streak will allow Staff Evies to deliver massive nukes when used in conjunction with the newly adjusted Casting Save system.

In order to allow Staff Evie to afford extra SP in the midst of using Reverse Gravity and other existing SP skills, the SP gain from Magic Arrow will be buffed. Some spells that can’t crit will be able to crit further adding to Stavff Evie’s damage potential.

One of Staff Evie’s weakness was difficulty in managing stamina but this will be addressed by allowing stamina to regenerate while maintaining Mana Amber.

The required stamina to use Mana Amber remains the same but, since stamina will be generated while it’s up, Evie will have stamina to react to a boss charging towards her after swatting away the Mana Amber.

A short invulnerability frame has been added to the recovery motion after breaking Amber. This invulnerability frame will not be applied when the Mana Amber is broken from damage and will only be available when Evie releases it or when its duration is over.
Staff Evie: More dakka, less dying.

quote:

-Dual Sword Vella

With the addition of bosses that attack from various directions[like Bark MK1], the current method of using Cross Cut was deemed to be difficult and thus Cross Cut can be used from attacks coming from any direction.

In addition, Cross stance can be used right after Cross Cut in order to deal with quick combo attacks more smoothly. For example, currently Keaghan’s 4-hit combo has to be dealt by getting out of range or delaying the use of Cross Double. But after the adjustment you can get right in to Cross Stance after Cross Cut and use Cross Cut again and thus use Cross Cut four times in a row.

Blade Heart will be easier to maintain. Currently flinching or using Cross Cut removes Blade Heart completely but after the adjustment Blade Heart will only lose one stack.

This will increase overall damage and also allow Blade Heart to be kept up while chaining Cross Cuts. Also, a full charged Gust Swing will grant 3 stacks of Blade Heart if it hits.

A new SP skill; Blade Will has been added. Blade Will gives you a buff that allows you to maintain three stacks of Blade Heart which won’t diminish even if you flinch or use Cross Cut.

The smash button needs to be pressed down for a moment to activate Typhoon Slash after using 1hit smash in order to avoid accidental use. Furthermore, a Typhoon Slash activated in this manner will skip the motion for drawing in monsters and go right in to its attack motion. This attack can be followed up with a 4hit smash by pressing the smash button again.

Storm Step had the problem of being followed by Gust Sting* which placed Vella in a risky situation so Vella’s 2hit smash will be used after Storm Step. And Gust Sting* can still be used after the 2hit smash if the player wants to.

*[afkalmighty : I’m pretty sure they meant Tumult Blade, which is called Gusty Blade in KR]

There were a lot of questions about Gusty Blade not being able to crit but this is intended due to the nature of the attack being a shockwave from slamming the ground.
I think it's great that the devs are fixing actual problems with Vella like the stupid directionality of Cross Cut and the way getting grazed for fifty health would cost you your buffs. On the other hand, I bet this is happening because Vella is someone's waifu.

Maintenance tomorrow or possibly Friday. Nexon is adding the season 2 episode 3 raids.

Also of interest, maybe:

quote:

Okay, here’s a rough translation.

The developer who wrote this Dev Note is Melzine. Apparently she’s the developer who originally wrote Vindictus’s Season 1 storyline. She left Nexon two years ago but now she’s back on the Vindictus team and oversaw the Season 1 story revamp.

They recognized that some stories require players to go through the same runs more than once, and other times stories just stop, forcing players to grind runs to level up and get the next main story.

They rearranged the stories so that if before, you had to finish Brynn’s Research three times to get all the main and side stories done, now you just have to run it once and three stories will be finished at once.

In doing so, some minor stories have been deleted. Others have had related NPCs or specific lines changed. Some of the earlier stories have been changed for believability. Before the revamp update the player just happens to visit Hoarfrost Hollow and accidentally discovers kobolds there, prompting the events of Episode 2. After the revamp the player has an actual reason for going there: he or she has been officially commissioned to investigate by the Royal Army.

Over 80% of the Season 1 runs will be made shorter. For example the Wind through the Ruins battle quest previously had 4 areas and made you load three times; after the revamp there will be only 3 areas.

They are also preparing character-specific stories: a Lann story, an Evie story, a Karok story, etc.

A couple of points I missed:

1. We’ll get more EXP for some stories than we did before, so hopefully no more grinding Hidden to level up.

2. Some Bonus Missions will also be changed; the Dev Note doesn’t elaborate on how they’ll change exactly.
Yeahhh, I don't think anything will stop people from grinding Hidden.

We don't even have Hurk and they're rumored to be creating another character: Lynn.

World Wide Game Watchers posted:

Lynn is a MATK fighter character who takes on an outfighter style of combat. Her basic attacks cause bursts of power that reach out in a range that is a bit shorter than Evie's magic arrows and her smashes are shockwaves.

The basics for her combat is centered around SP building and use. Her basic and smash attacks do little damage but replenish a lot of SP. She can use that SP to launch powerful attacks when a boss shows an opening.
The most basic attack pattern for her is to gather SP and when a boss is down she closes her distance with an SP skill that resembles a martial art joint strike. This attack can be chained and only the first strike consumes SP but the following strikes have long delays. So she has the choice to take the risk and do more SP-free damage or give up on the extra damage and fall back to safety.

Her basic gear is cloth and a knuckle. The concept behind using MATK is that she covers her fists and feet with mana when she attacks.
I guess she's some kind of wizard-monk?

Speaking of wizard-monks:

Can you name all of these characters? I can't.

What does the new poo poo go to?
I think I heard Barrel Fragments top out around 350m on West, but that was right after the Bark raid rolled out.

EDIT: Oh yeah, yet more Lynn info here.

quote:

Lynn is a character who uses her quick speed to utilize hit and run tactics.

Her image is to be that of a young and playful girl so her appearance and motions have been made to match this description.

Lynn’s age is assumed to be in the teenage range and to be younger than Evie. Her height also reflects this as she is designed to be the smallest character yet [89% the height of Fiona] which was also intended to further contrast the gap between her height and the length of her weapon.
I thought Evie was the teenager. I don't know what to think about all this :psyduck:

quote:

Her combat is centered around a debuff she inflicts on enemies with follow-up smashes called ‘Falling Flower’ [which I will refer to as FF]. FF can be stacked up to 10 times and these stacks can be used to deal massive damage with an attack skill called ‘Blooming Flower’[BF].

BF will use up all FF stacks on its target and depending on the number of FF stacks it will deal more damage and also recover stamina. As BF is an attack skill, one will have to decide on how FF stacks will be managed as well as when BF will be used.
I'm going to guess that BF should be used when you have 10 FF stacks or when you really need stamina. It can't be more complicated than that, right?

quote:

Lynn’s 4bar SP skill is unique in that it isn’t a direct damage skill. Dancing Wild Flower [DWF] may be a 4bar SP skill but it doesn’t consume SP right away. It instead steadily depletes your SP after activation and greatly decrease the SP cost of other skills and removes their cooldown while it is active. You still need at least 4 bars of SP to activate DWF though.
Thank goodness for this. The last thing I needed was yet another character loving up my Glacier Terminus with their own super attacks.

quote:

The rumors of hiring a female martial artist for Lynn’s motions are true. While the head animation researcher can capture motions for male characters, it would look awkward on a female character. While not every motion for Lynn was captured by the martial artist, her actions have all been valuable input for making Lynn’s motions. Examples of motions that were actually captured by the martial artist are the motions in Lynn’s teaser and her motion in her character selection screen. Besides the martial artist, a tutor from an action school was also hired to train the animation researchers so that they can have a better understanding of martial arts.
"We decided to ask experts for help on this one. This is the only situation in which we'll ask someone competent to help us do anything."

quote:

Other than her action motions, Lynn’s emotion and in-town actions are made to reflect her playful personality. Her in-town running motion, dance, and f9 motion has been given as prime examples. She apparently also has a hidden motion which should be surprising.
