UF Offensive Coordinator Hot Board via gatorbait: Coaches with staff ties Joker Phillips Job: Florida Gators wide receivers coach Age: 50 Salary: $265,000 Why he'd fit: He's already on campus. The players already know him and how he coaches, and he knows the system. Promoting him would keep some consistency in a key year for Muschamp. He has a proven track record as a coordinator. Derek Dooley Job: Dallas Cowboys wide receivers coach Age: 45 Salary: Unknown Why he'd fit: Dooley was on the same staff with Will Muschamp at LSU from 2001-04 and again with the Miami Dolphins in 2005. He has plenty of SEC experience thanks to his head coaching stint at Tennessee. Dooley is receiving a $5 million buyout from Tennessee still, which could lessen the amount the Gators would have to throw at him to get him to come. Why he may not come: Dooley seemed in over his head in the SEC. His offenses were good, but he wasn't cut out to be a head coach yet. He has had only two brief stints in the NFL, so he may want to try his hand more there before jumping back into hte college ranks. And working for Jerry Jones presumably has its perks. Adam Gase Job: Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Age: 35 Salary: Unknown Why he'd fit: Gase is considered one of the top up-and-coming coaches in all of football. He worked in the recruiting office at LSU from 2001-02 while Muschamp was there. He's young and energetic, and he helped Tim Tebow win games in the NFL. Why he may not come: He's probably making good money in the NFL, and he's one of the top coordinators out there right now. It would probably take a lot of cash to lure him away from Denver, and why leave when you've got Peyton Manning and a sure chance (or two or three) at a Super Bowl in the near future? James Coley Job: Miami Hurricanes offensive coordinator Age: 40 Salary: About $500,000 Why he'd fit: Coley certainly runs a more open offense than the one Florida's tried to play with the last few years. He was a graduate assistant at LSU in 2003-04 and an offensive assistant with the Dolphines in 2005, so he has ties to Muschamp. Florida could also deal a blow to Miami by luring away one of their top recruiters. Why he may not come: It would probably take a nice pay raise to get Coley to leave Miami, where he's originally from. He just got to Miami, and the Hurricanes appear to be on the verge of finally turning things around under Al Golden with the NCAA issues now mostly behind them. His job stability would almost certainly be better in Miami at this point. Dameyune Craig Job: Auburn Tigers co-offensive coordinator Age: 39 Salary: $350,000 Why he'd fit: Craig's now had a chance to pick up on Gus Malzahn's offense for a full year. Couple that with his time as Florida State's quarterbacks coach under Jimbo Fisher, and he should have a pretty open offense if he were given the reins. Craig was a graduate assistant at LSU in 2004 and a special teams coach in Miami with Muschamp, so he's got staff ties. While becoming sole offensive coordinator would be a big step up, Craig is also a great recruiter. Why he may not come: Craig appears to be in ideal position at Auburn. Malzahn's system is perfect for budding assistants to move on and move up, assuming it continues to work in the SEC. Still, if Florida's willing to risk hiring Craig as offensive coordinator, the Gators could probably get him. Eddie Gran Job: Cincinnati Bearcats offensive coordinator Age: 48 Salary: $305,128 Why he'd fit: Gran has a ton of experience coaching in the SEC. He's got ties to Muschamp from his time at Auburn. He knows the league and has been an excellent recruiter. He is, however, in only his first year as an offensive coordinator. Cincinnati's offense ranks 19th nationally under Gran's direction. Why he may not come: Gran would probably jump at the chance to make more money coaching in the SEC. Still, he's got long ties to Tommy Tuberville and it may be tougher to lure him away than it seems. The real question is whether Florida would even be interested. Coaches with school ties Brian Schottenheimer Job: St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator Age: 40 Salary: Unknown Why he'd fit: Schotteneimer went to Florida to learn under Steve Spurrier, so he's got ties to Gainesville and the Gators. He'd certainly run a more open offense than the one Florida's had the last few years. He's a young coach who will have traction in recruiting based on his name alone. Why he may not come: He's already an offensive coordinator at the NFL level. Stepping down to the college ranks, where he's only had two years of coaching experience, might not be the direction he wants to go, particularly to what could be perceived as a sinking ship. It'd probably take a lot of money to get him to make that move. Jedd Fisch Job: Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Age: 37 Salary: Unknown Why he'd fit: Fisch is a Florida graduate, and he spent two years as a graduate assistant under Steve Spurrier. He has worked his way up the coaching ranks and has had success at the college level, most recently at Miami. Why he may not come: He just left the college ranks for a coordinator job in the NFL, his first at that level. He may be unwilling to pick up and go right back to college. Coaches without any obvious ties Lane Kiffin Job: Unemployed Age: 38 Salary: N/A Why he'd fit: Kiffin has some SEC experience from his brief stint as Tennessee's head coach, and his offenses prior to becoming a head coach were pretty good. He can recruit. Why he may not come: This is more why Florida wouldn't hire him than why he wouldn't come. There was plenty of shots at Florida during Kiffin's tenure at Tennessee that probably rubbed the Florida administration the wrong way. He has a brash personality that doesn't really seem like a fit at Florida. Sylvester Croom Job: Tennessee Titans running backs coach Age: 59 Salary: Unknown Why he'd fit: Croom's got a decade and a half of experience in the SEC at various points in his career, so he's plenty familiar with the league. He would instantly command respect based on his wealth of experience. Why he may not come: Croom has spent more time in the NFL as a coach now than in college. He has bounced around quite a bit and has only been at his last two NFL stints for a year. Jay Norvell Job: Oklahoma Sooners co-offensive coordinator Age: 50 Salary: $400,000 Why he'd fit: Norvell has been an integral part of the Oklahoma offense, though he doesn't call plays for the Sooners. He does have experience doing that in the past, though. His track record of success speaks for itself. Why he may not come: There's a decent chance Norvell could be handed the play-calling duties next season after a tough year for the Sooners in 2013. He's also making pretty good money at Oklahoma and has been there for six years now. He doesn't have any SEC experience. Mike Norvell Job: Arizona State offensive coordinator Age: 32 Salary: $320,000 Why he'd fit: Norvell has been successful everywhere he's gone, first at Tulsa, then at Pittsburgh and Arizona State. He's got a wide open offense that has put up some big numbers. Why he may not come: He has little big-time BCS experience or SEC experience. He might not be a gamble Florida's willing to make.
